Authorities have taken 7 out of 18 people who escaped from Mkoba Teacher’s college quarantine back to the centre, The Herald reports. One Police officer and one security guard are believed to be manning the facility and people are taking advantage of that to climb a tree at the facility that has branches protruding over the wall to escape from quarantine.
This was revealed by Minister of State for Midlands Provincial Affairs Larry Mavima when he was addressing a leadership meeting in Mvuma. Mavhima said:
<blockquote>We have managed to track down seven returning residents who escaped from Mkoba Teachers’ College quarantine two weeks ago. We hear that the whereabouts of six other escapees is now known and it’s a matter of days before they are taken back to quarantine centres.
The Covid-19 rapid response team, the police and local leadership from the village in question will go together so that they easily identify these people</blockquote>
However, it is believed that returnees are also using the tree route to roam the streets of Gweru unnoticed by the authorities which increases the risk of spreading the virus in Midlands.

7 Mkoba Teachers' College Quarantine Escapees Taken Back To The Center

Minister of State in Midlands province Larry Mavhima told the Zimbabwe Morning Post that the invasion of Gaika mine in Kwekwe is illegal. He further indicated that the Midlands Joint Operation Committee (JOC) will continue manning the mine.
Mavhima fumed at some politicians who are using artisanal miners to advance their own agendas.
<blockquote>Invading other individuals’ properties is against the rule of law and furthermore a mockery of the new dispensation’s mantra which clearly states that  Zimbabwe is Open for Business, we are talking about devolution and we want people to come here (Midlands)and invest and this game of invading is out of order.
We want normalcy to prevail at Gaika mine and anywhere else in our province and individuals championing lawlessness must refrain for such retrogressive behaviour.</blockquote>
The Minister also revealed that these prominent politicians were using their close associations with President Mnangagwa as a weapon to trick members of the public. Mavhima distanced the president from all happenings at the mine.
The eviction of artisanal miners who were invading the mine on behalf of political elites is in resonance with a Bulawayo High Court order that was witnessed by Chief Justice Luke Malaba.
The Court ordered ZANU PF stalwart Vongai Mupereri to order his youths to leave the mine but he has been defying the order. Mupereri has in vain tried to effect the withdrawal of the joint security forces manning Gaika.

GAIKA Mine Invasion Declared Illegal

The government through the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has claimed that it is going to build 17 world-class institutions to match its reputation as having an “internationally acclaimed education system.” In the long term, the government is planning on building 2000 world class schools.
Said Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Deputy Minister Professor Larry Mavhima
<blockquote>These schools would be built to match international standards with state-of-the-art buildings, teachers’ houses, classroom blocks, laboratories including sporting and other facilities.
In contributing to the economic development of Zimbabwe, we (education sector) have decided to improve the education system to include other skills that produce complete graduates.
We have since embarked on a curriculum review and introduced a new syllabus which specifically targets sciences, technical subjects, engineering, mathematics, creative arts and innovations.</blockquote>

Govt says it will build 17 "world-class" schools to match its reputation

The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) is set to retrench nearly 50% of its workforce in a move board chairman Larry Mavhima said was aimed at allowing the parastatal to maintain a manageable workforce.
Said Mavhima:
<blockquote>We are looking at our current operating efficiencies, look at the volume of traffic that we are carrying and look at the number of employees in relation to the revenue that we are generating and we are saying we have too many employees for the traffic that we are moving so as the NRZ we want to stop the bleeding. We have to bite the bullet, take the bitter pill to ensure that the financial bleeding caused by a huge wage bill against the revenue inflows is stopped.</blockquote>
NRZ has since turned to the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) and Finance ministry to get funding for the retrenchment process which could cost close to $100 million.
