Deputy Defence Minister Levi Mayihlome was allegedly defrauded of US$850 after falling for an online scam.
According to <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/minister-defrauded-in-online-get-rich-quick-scam-by-zodwa-mkandla-impersonator/">ZimLive</a>, Mayihlome, a retired brigadier general, responded to a Facebook advert by someone posing as Zodwa Mkandla, promising substantial returns from “online cash trading.”
The 71-year-old later informed the police that he believed the individual was his socialite friend with the same name.
The scammers assured Mayihlome that an initial investment of US$200 would multiply 25-fold.
A police report seen by ZimLive revealed that Mayihlome initially transferred US$200 at an Innbucks outlet in Borrowdale to a mobile number registered to one Gilbert Makombe. Reads the report:

He was later advised that he made profit of US$5,300. The complainant was advised that for him to withdraw the profits, he was supposed to deposit another US$650.
</blockquote>
Mayihlome subsequently made additional cash deposits of US$500 and US$150 to a different number registered to one Austine Tafirei.
According to the police report, Mayihlome became suspicious when the scammers demanded an additional US$365 for what they claimed was “inland tax revenue.” It was then that he realised he had been duped.

The government says it will train 5 000 Science and Mathematics teachers in the next three years to address the teacher shortage problem.
Umzingwane MP Levi Mayihlome (ZANU PF) told the National Assembly that the shortage of Mathematics and Science teachers could be contributing to a decline in the pass rate in Sciences.
Mayihlome claimed Umzingwane District in Matabeleland South Province has more than 45 vacancies for Science teachers, but only two posts were filled.
He then asked the Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation and Technology Development Minister Amon Murwira about the measures that the Government is implementing to address the problem.
In response, Murwira said several teachers’ colleges such as Mkoba Teachers’ College; Masvingo Teachers’ College, and Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Polytechnic are training Science and Mathematics teachers. He said:

So, we have been able to enroll 600 teachers for Science only at Mkoba Teachers’ College, at Mary Mount Teachers’ College, at Masvingo Teachers’ College and Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Polytechnic which was never there before.
We have also bolstered the Science teaching programme at Mutare Teachers’ College, Hillside Teachers’ College and Belvedere Technical Teachers’ College.
So, the response has been such that last year in 2022, we graduated our first crop of secondary Science teachers.
We are looking at having 5 000 secondary Science teachers trained by 2025 and there are steps that we are taking.

Murwira said at least 600 Science teachers graduated in 2022 and the government has started deploying them to various stations across the country.

Govt Says It Plans To Train 5 000 Science Teachers By 2025

Umzingwane Constituency National Assembly member Levi Mayihlome has bemoaned parents’ “reluctance” to pay school fees saying they are abusing the government’s policy which forbids schools from sending learners home over non-payment of fees.
He made the remarks during the National Assembly Question and Answer session on Wednesday, 28 September 2022, <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/parents-lack-of-commitment-to-pay-fees-disappointing-cde-mayihlome/">Chronicle</a> reported. 
Mayihlome said the situation was not sustainable as school administrators were running schools on a zero budget. He said:

Minister of Primary and Secondary Education regarding the chasing of school children who have not paid fees.  The headmasters or the school administrators are in a dilemma, they do not know what to do when they cannot meet the operating costs for schools because children have not paid schools on the one hand and on the other hand, the law does not give a free hand to deal with the parents but at the same time we expect these school administrators to be efficient in running these schools.
</blockquote>
He said Government should come up with a clear position on how school administrators can deal with parents who refuse to pay fees for their children.
Some parents have not been paying school fees for their children citing economic hardships. 
Thousands of learners are said to have dropped out of school over failure to raise fees.
