ZANU PF has officially appointed Edson Chakanyuka Chiherenge as the substantive provincial chairperson for the Midlands Province.
He will be deputised by Lewis Matutu, who has been elected as the Vice Chairman.
According to <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/zanu-pf-midlands-appoints-new-chair/">The Chronicle</a>, these new appointments were made during the weekend in Gweru.
Chiherenge had previously served as the acting provincial chairperson, stepping into the role after Larry Mavima’s resignation.
Mavima, who is now a Commissioner in the Public Service Commission (PSC), had previously held the position that Chiherenge now occupies.
During Mavima’s tenure as ZANU PF Midlands chairman, Chiherenge was his deputy.
Chiherenge expressed his commitment to the party, emphasizing that the province has identified several projects being spearheaded by the Second Republic. These initiatives aim to propel Zimbabwe toward achieving an upper-middle-income society by 2030. He said:

We are running around identifying all projects done by the New Dispensation under the able leadership of our President, Cde Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa.
Through the office of the Minister of State for Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Cde Owen Ncube, these are being monitored so that the province envisions an upper-middle-income society by the year 2030.

Chiherenge said the projects include road rehabilitation; construction of schools, clinics and hospitals as well as borehole drilling and energy provision.
Matutu, who is a former Youth League’s deputy secretary, said with the new deployment, he was ready to serve the party. He said:
<blockquote>
There is a need to keep growing our GDP as a province by ensuring that establishing more industries, infrastructure development and supporting our mining and agriculture.
We are going to massively push for the empowerment of women, youth and the war veterans of the liberation struggle because we have the resources in the province. A united Midlands has the potential to do great.
As the vice chairperson, it is my responsibility to unite the province towards a common vision and purpose for the good of the nation as we seek our national vision, Vision 2030.

In June 2019, Matutu audaciously named individuals, private sector executives and party bigwigs he claimed were corrupt.
Addressing a Press conference at the ZANU PF Headquarters, Matutu said those exposed in the “naming and shaming” should clear their names, threatening to bar named party officials from the ruling party’s headquarters in Harare.

Chiherenge Appointed ZANU PF Midlands Provincial Chairman

Former ZANU PF Youth League Deputy Secretary, Lewis Matutu has reportedly lost his Kwekwe farm after the High Court judge Justice Pisirayi Kwenda on January 29, 2020, confirmed an interim order in favour of Onisimo Zhavairo from whom Matutu had reportedly grabbed the land from in 2019.
Reports suggest that Matutu deployed a number of youths as he violently grabbed the land from Zhavairo who had occupied it for 14 years.
On the other hand, Matutu was showing an offer letter which Justice Kwenda noted in his judgment delivered on December 29, 2019, that Matutu’s offer letter had been processed in error. Kwenda said:
<blockquote>It is trite that the system/computer programme used in allocating agricultural land is intelligent in that when one tries to generate an offer letter for land already given to another citizen, an alert pops up. In this case, an error had been made in the description of the land by the provincial allocations committee when first respondent (Matutu) requested that it be allocated to him. The second respondent (Lands ministry) did not realise that the land was already taken.</blockquote>
Matutu was recently suspended from ZANU PF after he and the party’s Youth League leadership allegedly violated party code of conduct when they named and shamed cartels bleeding the economy.

Former ZANU PF Deputy Secretary for Youth Affairs, Lewis Matutu has vowed to continue his fight against corruption following his suspension from leadership positions in the party alongside former Secretary for the Commissariat, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Godfrey_Tsenengamu" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Godfrey Tsenengamu</a>.
Writing on Twitter on Wednesday evening, several hours after his suspension, Matutu said:
<blockquote>Self-sacrifice is the most honourable and selfless thing you can do in your life. Better to die for something than to live for nothing.</blockquote>
ZANU PF Secretary for Youth Affairs Pupurai Togarepi, Matutu and Tsenengamu were on Wednesday suspended from their party positions for indiscipline.
Matutu and Tsenengamu held a press conference on Monday where they accused <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Kudakwashe_Tagwirei" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Kudakwashe Tagwirei</a>, a ZANU PF benefactor, of corruption and sabotaging the economy.
They also accused Green Fuel boss, Muller Conrad Rautenbach and Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe (GMAZ) chairperson Tafadzwa Musarara of corruption.

Suspended ZANU PF Youth Boss Vows To Fight Back

ZANU PF Youth League Deputy Secretary <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Lewis_Matutu" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Lewis Matutu</a> said the envisaged Thabo Mbeki-mediated talks between President Emmerson Mnangagwa and MDC leader Nelson Chamisa are welcome.
Speaking to the Daily News on Friday, Matutu said Mbeki is a respectable former statesman who has already played significant roles in the region. Said Matutu:
<blockquote>We respect former president Mbeki, given the various roles he has played in the region, including in Zimbabwe in 2008, so we welcome any initiative that is genuine.
Nobody has ever blocked the MDC leader from meeting with the president (Mnangagwa), so the idea of them coming together is not a bad idea at all.</blockquote>
Former South African President Mbeki visited the country on Monday before meeting President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his rival, MDC leader Nelson Chamisa separately, members of the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Political_Actors_Dialogue" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD)</a>, and churches and civic organisations.

ZANU PF Youths Welcome Anticipated ED, Chamisa Talks

The Zanu Pf Youth League Secretary <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Lewis_Matutu">Lewis Matutu</a> speaking to open parly said the time to take the fight to the US Embassy is now.

ZANU PF Youth League deputy secretary, Lewis Matutu claimed that the party bigwigs he exposed as being corrupt are afraid of taking legal action.
Speaking to NewZimbabwe.com’s current affairs programme, The Agenda on Monday, Matutu said:
<blockquote>Of all those people that you can think of who send notices of summons, none of them is willing to proceed with whatever they started because it’s a very dangerous game.
… You will never see any single day that you see us in court because of this corruption list. It’s not going to happen because no one wants to be embarrassed. That is not going to happen.</blockquote>
Matutu added that there are more than 17 lawyers ready to represent the Youth League in the event that its members are sued. He said:
<blockquote>We have a group of 17 lawyers who are willing to help. In fact, there are more but for management purposes, we have said the 17 are enough for now.
In the case that anybody decides to proceed with such action, we are waiting, and we are ready.</blockquote>
Among the senior officials to be named as corrupt is party secretary for administration Obert Mpofu, government Ministers Priscah Mupfumira and Joram Gumbo, Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor John Mangudya, Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa’s son Neville.
During a recent politburo meeting, Mpofu reportedly gnashed his teeth at Matutu and threatened to manhandle him there and then.

"Named & Shamed ZANU PF Bigwigs Afraid Of Taking On Youth League"

The ruling ZANU PF party was set to hold a politburo meeting on Wednesday, with suggestions that fireworks were expected.
This follows allegations of corruption levelled against party bigwigs by the ZANU PF Youth League, among them secretary for administration, Obert Mpofu.
Speaking to Newsday on Tuesday, Mpofu dismissed the allegations thrown at him, accusing the youths of being attention-seekers. He said:
<blockquote>Honestly, there are so many ways of seeking relevance and this is not one of them. They could have looked for better ways of seeking relevance and not these kinds of things that they are doing.</blockquote>
Simon Khaya Moyo told the publication that he would only be able to comment after the politburo meeting. Said Moyo:
<blockquote>I will comment after a Politburo meeting we are having tomorrow (today). Currently, I am out of Harare and I have not been briefed of this. Maybe we will be briefed in the Politburo and we will address the issue after that if we are briefed.</blockquote>
Mpofu said that the youth have no power to block him from entering party offices. He added:
<blockquote>Whose party are they talking about? They can only do so on what they own, on what is theirs. I am in the office and there is nothing like that and it will never happen.
I am just hearing it and they haven’t come to me directly, I am just reading about it.</blockquote>
President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s perceived ally, Gokwe-Nembudziya MP, Justice Mayor Wadyajena said:
<blockquote>We’ve backslid to the Grace era, where G40 youths used extortion against citizens to avoid public lynchings. A country can’t be dictated to by a bunch of youths at a presser.
Do they understand the consequences of alleged corruption by the head of the central bank?</blockquote>
However, the Youth League has stuck to its guns, insisting that President Mnangagwa will listen to them. Said Matutu:
<blockquote>President Mnangagwa is not like the former President (Robert Mugabe), who always accused people of attacking him when his appointees are accused of corruption.
He (Mnangagwa) listens to young people and acts after listening. We are confident that he will listen.</blockquote>

ZANU PF Politburo Meeting Expected To Be Explosive

Firebrand MDC youth assembly chairperson Obey Teererai Sithole said that nothing will stop his party from confronting the government through protests over the deteriorating economic situation.
Sithole was addressing party members in Harare on Sunday at the Commemoration Day of African Child.
He, however, revealed that they will not fall into ZANU PF’s trap by rushing the protests. He said:
<blockquote>We are not going to fold our hands when the people of Zimbabwe are suffering.
We know Zanu PF is saying the next elections are coming in 2023, but comrades, 2023 is very far. We cannot go on like this.
Don’t be intimidated by those who say they are going to shoot you. They cannot shoot the whole population.</blockquote>
Meanwhile, the ZANU PF youth league says that it is ready to “welcome” their MDC counterparts to the streets.
In an interview with Newsday last week, Zanu PF deputy secretary for youth affairs Lewis Matutu said:
<blockquote>… they must know that they are welcome to the streets and we will deal with them ruthlessly to make sure that they don’t disturb the peace in the country.
They must not think we are not protesting. They must be warned that we are coming. Be careful, the people of Zimbabwe are ready.</blockquote>
Reports indicate that the government is buying and stockpiling a wide array of lethal and non-lethal weapons for the police to be ready for the anticipated demonstrations.

'They Cannot Shoot The Whole Population' - MDC Youths Vow To Protest

Zanu-PF deputy youth secretary Lewis Matutu, said he wants 15-35-year-olds to take over the leadership of the party’s youth wing.
Zanu PF has embarked on a restructuring program and Matutu is heading the Bulawayo program. Said Matutu:
<blockquote>As the youth league we are going to take advantage of the restructuring of the two provinces to strengthen our structures, giving an opportunity to those within the ages of 15-35 to lead the youth. This is an opportunity to reflect on ourselves as we work to transform our league into a modern political organisation. There is need to accommodate the youth. I am prepared for the challenge and after all our constitution is very clear on that matter.</blockquote>
The Zanu PF constitution stipulates that its youth wing should be made up and led by individuals between the ages of 15 and 30 years. However as party leader Mnangagwa can appoint secretaries to head different structures of the party including the youth league. Those appointed from the party’s central committee get a seat into the politburo, Zanu PF’s administrative arm.

Zanu-PF Youth League Boss Wants 15-35 Year Olds To Lead

Zanu-PF Mashonaland West Youth League has called for the expulsion of leader, Pupurai Togarepi, his deputy  Lewis Matutu and three other National Executive Council members.
Togarepi, Matutu and the three National Executive Council members are accused of of incompetence, gross misconduct and disloyalty, among other allegations. The other three are the Youth League’s national secretary for Administration Tendai Chirau, the deputy national secretary for External Relations Admire Mahachi and deputy national Secretary for Environment and Tourism Mercy Mugomo. In a statement after a provincial youth executive meeting in Chinhoyi last week, provincial secretary for administration Ability Gandawa called on Zanu-PF’s National Disciplinary Committee to immediately review and conclude the matter. Said Gandawa:
<blockquote>The Mashonaland West executive calls upon all Zanu-PF members to support the decision made by the national executive of the Youth League to reorganise its structure to suit the aspirations of the party which is to support the President in making Zimbabwe great again. To this end, the executive calls on the National Disciplinary Committee to immediately review and conclude the matter, to discharge members working against the vision of the President.</blockquote>

Zanu-PF Mashonaland West Youth League Supports Motion To Expel Leaders Pupurai Togarepi, Lewis Matutu

The ZANU PF national youth league on Wednesday passed a vote of no confidence in its leadership. Those to be shown the exit door are the league’s leader Pupurai Togarepi, Togarepi’s deputy, Lewis Matutu and secretary for administration Tendai Chirau.
NewZimbabwe.com sources claim that the decision made by the league was part of the ongoing fight between ZANU PF first secretary Emmerson Mnangagwa and his deputy Constantino Chiwenga. Mnangagwa is said to be frantically trying to clip his deputy’s wings for him to take total control of the party.
Chirau confirmed the development to NewZimbabwe.com. He said:
It is true that a vote of no confidence has been passed on five members of the youth league national executive. I am part of the five.
However, the vote of no confidence is subject to confirmation from the national disciplinary committee of the party.
Chirau however, said he was not given the reasons for the no-confidence vote. In its statement, the ZANU PF youth league claimed that the top five leaders had failed to fully defend party President  Emmerson Mnangagwa.

ZANU PF Youth League National Executive Purged In Fresh Factional Fights

ZANU PF youths league deputy president, Lewis Matutu, has distanced his party from utterances that were made by the War Veterans early this week. War Veterans Association secretary-general, Victor Matemadanda, said that Parliament should amend the constitution so that Presidential aspirants should be above the age of 52, mature enough to run the country. The current minimum age is 40 years.
In an interview with the Daily News, Matutu said
<blockquote>We believe that the correct position comes from the party (Zanu PF) … and the truth of the matter is that there is nothing like that from the party. Party issues are communicated by SK (Simon Khaya) Moyo.
We respect the war veterans association … but it doesn’t mean that we must agree with all they believe in. Youths constitute the largest percentage of the population and this is also the largest age group of people who vote and you cannot tell them not to participate in the country’s politics.</blockquote>
Constitutional law expert, Alex Magaisa warned that such utterances have the potential to harm President Mnangagwa’s chances of endearing him to the world. He said
<blockquote>How does anyone in his right mind even begin to contemplate this without seeing the damage it causes to their own principal? So now you want to bar an opponent through a constitutional amendment?
Isn’t it for the people to reject a candidate if they don’t like him or her? It does nothing to help the cause of a man who is desperate to be seen as open and tolerant. It’s a silly, immature and hare-brained idea.</blockquote>

ZANU PF Youths Condemn Matemadanda's Utterances, Say He Doesn't Speak For The Party

The Children of Zimbabwe Liberation War Veterans’ Association (CZNLWVA) has complained about the leadership of the Zanu PF youth league claiming that most top leaders are over the age of 35. CZNLWVA national chairperson Innocent Mhlanga said
<blockquote>The Zanu PF constitution is very clear on that issue that the cut-off age must be 35, but we have a number of youth league executive members who are aged 40 years and some of them are 45.</blockquote>
Zanu PF youth league leader Pupurai Togarepi is 54. However, Togarepi’s deputy Lewis Matutu said,
<blockquote>I respect their opinion and I think one thing that must be made clear is that when we hold elections, someone who is 32 might get elected and by the time they finish their term, they will be above 35. It’s unfair to say that we have older people.</blockquote>

Zanu-PF Youth Leaders Are Too Old: Children of War Veterans

Newly appointed Zanu-PF secretary for Youth, Lewis Matutu has said that he is going to establish a national database for the country’s youth. The proposed database will contain details of people’s skills, areas of interest for work and skills development among other things. Matutu also made it clear that the database is not limited to graduates as skills are not only acquired through formal education. Writing on social media, Matutu said,
<blockquote>As part of my new mandate l have started working on establishing a national youth database containing one’s qualifications or acquired skills and area of interest in terms of employment and skills development…Graduates are not the only young people in the country
We have many young people who didn’t make it to university but have acquired other skills…Skills are not only acquired through formal education…The information will be shared soon and registration will be done online.</blockquote>
Matutu was named as the new Secretary for Youth after Pupurai Togarepi was appointed as Zanu-PF’s chief whip in Parliament. However, Matutu still remains as Togarepi’s deputy in the Zanu-PF Youth League.

New Zanu-PF Secretary For Youth To Establish National Youth Database For Employment

The Zanu-PF Youth league has declared that it does not care what former president Robert Mugabe does, as he is now irrelevant to Zimbabwe’s politics. This is despite the fact, that Mugabe was <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2018/03/12/mugabe-should-just-shut-up-and-rest-peacefully-war-veterans-speak-on-npf/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">roundly attacked</a> and <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2018/03/06/zanu-pf-youth-league-war-veterans-warn-mugabe-ready-coming-storm-say-will-not-soft/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">threatened</a> after he endorsed Ambrose Mutinhiri’s National Patriotic Front.
Deputy Secretary for the youth league Lewis Matutu said,
<blockquote>It’s a waste of time to talk about Mugabe. He is old and at 94 nobody will listen to his hallucinations. We will not be worried even if Mugabe were to associate himself with the MDC-T, we will not waste our time with him. In the early years of independence, he did some good things, but lost his way after marrying a young wife who was controlling him.</blockquote>
Zanu PF youth league secretary for administration, Tendai Chirau added,
<blockquote>Mugabe is the past and Cde Mnangagwa is the future. Zanu PF is and was not a family pet project owned by Mugabe. It is a people’s project that is moving forward. People will come and go but the party will remain.</blockquote>

The ruling Zanu-PF party’s Youth League has attacked MDC-T leader and presidential candidate Nelson Chamisa saying that he must attend Zanu-PF’s Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology because he is unfit to lead anyone.
Zanu-PF deputy youth league leader Lewis Matutu said,
<blockquote>Chamisa doesn’t understand what it means to be a leader and what it means to build (or) work for an economy. He doesn’t understand how to run a political party, this would probably push me to think that indeed he is an illegitimate leader as no political party would like to be led by such a person.
We are also appealing and inviting Chamisa and his executive to attend the Chitepo School of Ideology so that they get some orientation on leadership. It’s open to all Zimbabweans, including Chamisa, and the whole of the MDC-T leadership. We have already consulted the principal (Munyaradzi) Machacha and he has agreed. Chamisa needs to attend lessons on the founding principles of a nation maybe he can be groomed and mentored into a leader.</blockquote>
