A top United States of America House Republican, Brian Mast, is concerned about the Biden administration’s spending on international programmes that he believes are irrelevant to national security, including LGBT initiatives in Zimbabwe.
LGBT stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender. It’s an acronym used to describe a community of people who identify as having diverse sexual orientations and gender identities.
As reported by the <a href="https://www.nationalreview.com/news/house-republican-questions-biden-admins-attempt-to-fund-lgbt-awareness-in-zimbabwe/">National Review</a>, Mast, the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, wrote a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken and USAID administrator Samantha Power criticizing these spending proposals.
The Biden administration’s proposals include efforts to fight climate change in the Middle East and promote LGBT awareness in Zimbabwe. Wrote Mast:

In recent weeks, my office has been made aware of hundreds of millions of dollars of proposed obligations for initiatives that offer no clear national security benefit to the U.S. or its allies.
The American people sent a clear message in November that they will no longer tolerate uncontrolled spending on programs that are incompatible with the United States’ interests abroad.
As their representative, I cannot, in good faith, allow you to spend millions of dollars to combat climate change in the war-torn Middle East or fund LGBTQI awareness in Zimbabwe – both of which are among your recent proposals.

In Zimbabwe, homosexuality is illegal, same-sex marriage is constitutionally prohibited, and the government has a long-standing history of opposing LGBT rights.
Nevertheless, advocacy groups such as the Gays and Lesbians Association of Zimbabwe (GALZ) are promoting LGBT rights and raising awareness about these issues within the country.

Biden Administration Allocates Millions For Promoting Homosexuality In Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe’s Vice President, Constantino Chiwenga has denounced a scholarship offer allegedly to lure young Zimbabwean students into Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) activities.
In a statement, Chiwenga said LGBT activities are unlawful in Zimbabwe and that the scholarship offer is a challenge to Zimbabwe’s sovereignty.
He said Zimbabwe, as a Christian nation, has no room for “such alien, anti-life, un-African and unchristian values”. Reads the statement:

The Government of Zimbabwe strongly and firmly rejects and denounces as unlawful, unchristian, anti-Zimbabwean and unAfrican insidious attempts by foreign interests to entice, lure and recruit, Zimbabwe’s less privileged but able students into Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender activities and malpractices through offers of educational scholarships.
Zimbabwe has legislated against all such deviances, making any offers predicated on the same aberrations both unlawful and criminal, and a grave and gross affront to our national values and ethos as a Christian Nation.
To that end, Government sees such scholarship offers as a direct challenge to its authority, and thus will not hesitate to take appropriate measures to enforce national laws and to protect and defend national values.
Our schools and institutions of higher learning will not entertain applicants, let alone enrol persons associated with such alien, anti-life, un-African and unchristian values which are being promoted and cultivated by, as well as practised in decadent societies with whom we share no moral or cultural affinities.
Zimbabwe is a sovereign, African State with definite laws and values which typify it, cutting it apart from other mores.
Young Zimbabweans who qualify for enrollment into tertiary institutions here and elsewhere, should approach Government Departments tasked to give grants and scholarship support to deserving cases.
They should never be tempted to trade or sell their souls for such abominable and devilish offers.

VP Chiwenga Denounces LGBT Scholarship Offer For Zimbabwean Students

The World Bank has suspended the provision of new funding to Uganda due to its adoption of highly stringent anti-LGBTQ legislation. The law, which includes severe penalties such as the death sentence for certain same-sex acts, is deemed by the World Bank to be in direct contradiction with its core values.
Consequently, the World Bank has opted to halt the disbursement of new funds until it can evaluate and implement measures aimed at preventing discrimination within the projects it financially supports. The World Bank currently maintains an existing portfolio of projects in Uganda totalling $5.2 billion, and these ongoing initiatives will not be impacted by the funding suspension.
Since the law’s enactment in May, it has faced extensive criticism from both local and international human rights organizations, as well as Western governments. However, it has garnered significant support within Uganda itself.
In response to the World Bank’s decision, President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda expressed his disapproval and pledged to explore alternative sources of credit. He also highlighted that Uganda intends to reduce its reliance on borrowing and will not succumb to pressure from foreign institutions that seek to undermine its faith, culture, principles, and sovereignty through financial means. He said:

It is, therefore, unfortunate that the World Bank and other actors dare to want to coerce us into abandoning our faith, culture, principles and sovereignty, using money. They really underestimate all Africans.

Museveni emphasised that if the need for borrowing arises, Uganda can seek funding from other sources, with anticipated revenues from oil production, slated to commence by 2025, serving as an additional economic resource.
Museveni expressed the hope that the World Bank would reconsider its stance on the matter.
To address the potential financial ramifications of the funding suspension, the Ugandan government intends to present a revised budget for the fiscal year 2023-2024 (July to June) to parliament for approval. Junior finance minister Henry Musasizi informed lawmakers that the government plans to submit the revised budget within a week, seeking their endorsement.
In June, the United States responded to the enactment of the anti-LGBTQ law by imposing visa restrictions on certain Ugandan officials. President Joe Biden also ordered a review of U.S. aid to Uganda in light of these developments.
A significant number of African countries have laws and cultural attitudes that do not support or recognise the rights of the LGBTQ+ community. Many countries in Africa have legislation that criminalises same-sex relationships and activities, with penalties ranging from fines to imprisonment and, in some cases, even the death penalty.
