England-based Warriors striker, Macauley Bonne, was not called up for the upcoming 2026 FIFA Club World Cup qualifiers because he wants to sort out his club future.
Bonne was part of the Warriors squad that took part in the Four-Nation friendly tournament held in Malawi in March and his exclusion from the squad named for the matches against Lesotho and South Africa next month raised some eyebrows.
According to <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/bonne-asked-to-be-excused-to-sort-out-his-clubs-future/">H-Metro</a>, the 26-year-old asked to be excused from the Warriors’ next two matches as he was still working on his future with his English League Two side Gillingham.
Bonne is returning to his parent club, Gillingham, following the expiry of his six-month loan deal with League One side Cambridge.
H-Metro reported a source within Bonne’s camp as saying that an arrangement was made between ZIFA and the player’s handlers. Said the source:

Remember Bonne’s loan deal with Cambridge has expired and the player has to return to Gillingham.
So, there will be some talks there whose dates are coinciding with the Warriors matches in South Africa.
There are issues to do with Bonne’s future that need to be ironed out, so he can’t miss the opportunity.

Bonne made 16 appearances and scored one goal for Cambridge in the 2023/24 season.
He has also played for several English lower-league clubs, including Queens Park Rangers, Leyton Orient, Lincoln City and Colchester United.

Macauley Bonne has joined English League Two club Gillingham on a free transfer following his departure from Charlton Athletic.
The 27-year-old striker, who was born in Ipswich, England to Zimbabwean parents, links up with fellow Zimbabwean striker Ronald Sithole, who recently signed his first professional contract with Gillingham.
The club released a statement on 11 August announcing the capture of the former Queens Park Rangers forward. <a href="https://www.gillinghamfootballclub.com/news/2023/august/macauley-bonne-signs-for-gillingham/">Reads the statement</a>:

He netted his first goal four days later at home to Peterborough United.
Following loan spells at Woking and Lincoln he joined Orient in the summer of 2017 and scored 47 times in 91 appearances, alerting the attention of QPR who paid an undisclosed fee for his services in October 2020.
He spent 2021/22 on loan at Ipswich, netting 12 times in 46 games before returning to The Valley in January on a deal that concluded in the summer.

Macauley Bonne Joins English Club Gillingham

EFL Championship club Queens Park Rangers (QPR) has terminated the contract of Zimbabwean international striker Macauley Bonne by mutual consent.
Bonne joined QPR from Charlton Athletic in October 2020 and made 44 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals.
He also spent a period on loan at Ipswich Town.
QPR released a statement confirming the termination of Bonne’s contract. It said:

Striker Macauley Bonne has left QPR. The 27-year-old has had his contract terminated by mutual consent with immediate effect.
Bonne joined the R’s from Charlton Athletic in October 2020 and went on to make 44 appearances for us in all competitions, scoring three goals.
Thirty-four of those outings came from the bench and he spent last season on loan at Ipswich Town.
The club would like to thank Macauley for his services and wish him every success in the future.

Warriors team manager Wellington Mpandare says they have given up on Ipswich Town striker Macauley Bonne following his unending excuses when called up to represent Zimbabwe.
Bonne was called up for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Ethiopia last month but turned down the invitation saying the hot weather conditions in Southern Africa were not favourable for his health.
Mpandare revealed that coach Norman Mapeza decided not to consider Bonne in his plans after he failed to come for the World Cup qualifiers. Said Mpandare:

As for Macauley Bonne, we never invited him, we never considered him. Everyone knows that we have been trying to convince him for so many years and we managed to secure him a passport.
All along we were not giving up until he told us of some weather excuses. I think that was an insult to the region (Southern Africa).
In as far as this part of the world is concerned, a number of people actually want to come here because of the favourable conditions.
We really questioned the so-called weather condition because there is also summer in the UK. This is a continental showcase and we need people who are dedicated to the cause.
So truly speaking, we tried our best before, we have secured a passport for him and was at one-point forthcoming. Now we have given up. He is not in our plans.

He said the squad for the AFCON finals will be dominated by players who took part in the qualifiers.

Warriors Concede Defeat In Macauley Bonne Chase

Zimbabwe national team manager Wellington Mpandare says they will not “be that desperate as to force ourselves on an individual” after English-based Macauley Bonne turned down his latest call-up to the Warriors.
The 26-year-old, who is on the books of Ipswich Town on loan from Queens Park Rangers, has played in two friendly games for Zimbabwe in the past but has yet to feature in a competitive match.
He was recently named in the Warriors’ squad for their impending 2022 World Cup Qualifiers against South Africa and Ethiopia, but <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/11/05/zimbabwean-climate-too-harsh-for-macauley-bonne/">Ipswich wrote to the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) on Friday to inform them that Bonne will not be making the trip on health grounds.</a>
Bonne has been in excellent form for Ipswich this season, netting 11 goals in 15 appearances in League One.
Mpandare, however, says Zimbabwe cannot dwell on Bonne’s absence insisting that there are plenty of other prospects at home and abroad to focus their energy on instead. 
He told The Herald that if Bonne cannot climatic conditions prevalent in Africa, it, therefore, means that he cannot play for Zimbabwe. He added:

So, we take his word. The last time he had a heart complication and this time he has indicated that he has a health condition that is not friendly to high temperatures.
This can be interpreted in many ways. It may also mean that he cannot play for Zimbabwe because we always play our games in these conditions in Africa, not in Europe.

Macauley Bonne is expected to remain with his English League One side Ipswich Town for next week’s home game against Oxford United despite being named in the Warriors squad for their World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Ethiopia this month, TWTD reported on Thursday.
The Warriors technical team led by interim coach Norman Mapeza recalled Bonne to the Zimbabwe squad announced this morning having been left out of the party for last month’s games.
He reportedly failed to travel for the Warriors’ back-to-back matches against Ghana because the matches were being played in countries on the UK COVID-19 red list.
According to TWTD, the 26-year-old is still unlikely to travel with nothing riding on the matches.
Zimbabwe are bottom of their qualification group having taken only one point from their four fixtures so far and are already out of contention for the finals.

Macauley Bonne Expected To Snub Warriors, Again

The Warriors technical team <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/11/04/warriors-squad-for-the-final-2022-world-cup-qualifiers-named/">has named Ipswich Town striker Macauley Bonne in the squad to play against South Africa and Ethiopia</a> this month in the final two 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
It is not yet clear if Bonne, who was close to making his competitive debut for Zimbabwe ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals, will travel for the two matches.
Warriors manager Wellington Mpandare told H-Metro on Wednesday that they are yet to give up on the Ipswich Town marksman. He said:

Warriors interim coach Norman Mapeza could invite England-based forward, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Macauley_Bonne">Macauley Bonne</a>, for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers next month.
Zimbabwe takes on South Africa and Ethiopia in the final two dead rubber qualifiers, with the focus now on preparing for next year’s AFCON finals in Cameroon, between January and February.
Warriors team manager, Wellington Mpandare, told The Herald that successive coaches have tried to woo Bonne without success but the door is still open for him if he changes his mind. Said Mpandare:

Warriors interim coach Norman Mapeza says he will have a chat with Ipswich Town FC striker Macauley Bonne to ascertain why he has previously snubbed national team call-ups.
Speaking to State media, Mapeza revealed that he didn’t call Bonne for the double-header World Cup qualifiers against Ghana this month after he was informed that the striker had shown an unwillingness to play for the national team. Said Mapeza:

When I was appointed coach, I was told that Bonne has constantly been snubbing call-ups, which is rather unfortunate.

Mapeza Explains Why He Omitted Bonne For Ghana Matches

Ipswich Town striker Macauley Bonne is still welcome to play for the country’s senior men’s national soccer team.
This was said by Warriors team manager Wellington Mpandare on Tuesday during an interview with Soccer24 from Cameroon where he will attend the AFCON 2021 draw tomorrow.
This comes after Bonne (25) was reported to be one of the players “blocked” by Warriors coach Zdravko Logarusic for “showing signs of lack of commitment” ahead of last November’s blockbuster Algeria doubleheader.
Mpandare asserted that every player chosen by the Logarusic-led technical team is welcome to play for Zimbabwe. He said:

Any player is welcome as long as the coaches want him. Macauley is no exception, he is welcome.

Zimbabweans took to Facebook to vent their frustration over Queens Park Rangers striker, Macauley Bonne’s reluctance to play for the Warriors.

Warriors Fans Express Frustration Over Bonne's Warriors Snub

Queens Park Rangers forward Macauley Bonne has ruled himself out of the Warriors squad to play back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against continental champions Algeria next month.
Reports suggest that the former Charlton Athletic striker, who has only featured for Zimbabwe in two friendly matches, simply doesn’t want to play for Zimbabwe.
Bonne, whose father hails from Harare’s suburb of Arcadia, was born to a British mother in Ipswich, United Kingdom.
Meanwhile, Warriors coach Zdravko “Loga” Logarusic said he will only give priority to players who really want to play for Zimbabwe.
Logarusic revealed that he spent the last few weeks having one-on-one discussions with players he is targeting to include in the Warriors squad to play Algeria.
The Croat is understood to have spoken to Nottingham defender Tendai Darikwa, Reading player Andy Rinomhota, Kundai Benyu (Wealdstone), Adam Chicksen (Notts County), and left-back Jordan Zemura of Bournemouth.
He, however, refused to name the players he has spoken to and those who are not interested in playing for Zimbabwe. Said Loga:

Macauley Bonne 'Doesn't Want To Play For Zimbabwe'

Zimbabwe international Tino Kadewere who plays for French Ligue 1 side Lyon is set to miss out on Warriors’ friendly match against Malawi which was pencilled for Sunday.
Kadewere’s name was not on the list of players which Lyon will be releasing during the international break.
Meanwhile, some say the Zimbabwe-Malawi match hangs in the balance as the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) is yet to appoint a team manager.
There have been reports of efforts by various stakeholders including Warriors coach Zdravko “Loga” Logarusic to manipulate the selection process.
Former Warriors and Mamelodi Sundowns winger Alois Bunjira told Daily News that the lack of a team manager meant Zifa failed to communicate properly with clubs.
<blockquote>I’m not really sure why the process of engaging a team manager has been so more complicated than that of engaging the coach. We should have announced the team manager when we announced the coach.
Look, we all know how long before a match players are supposed to be called up. We all know the protocols. So why are we always getting caught offside.

Zimbabwe international striker Macauley Bonne who plies his trade for Queens Park Rangers scored a goal on his debut securing his team a point.
QPR were trailing Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend when the 24-year-old was introduced in the 64th minute. He headed in a cross by Frenchman, Yoann Barbet deep into stoppage time to rescue a point for QPR.
The former Charlton Athletic striker posted on Twitter after the match expressing his excitement. He said:

Bonne Scores On QPR Debut

Zimbabwe international Macauley Bonne yesterday completed a move to English Championship side Queens Park Rangers (QPR) from Charlton Athletic.
The 24-year-old is said to have signed a 3-year deal, subject to passing a medical while QPR also have the option of extending it by a further 12 months.
Bonne admits when he knew QPR were looking at bringing him to W12, he was keen on the move. In his first interview with the club’s official website, he said:
<blockquote>I am really pleased and happy it’s finally done.
I can’t wait to get started now.
The second I heard there was interest, my head was turned. I’ll easily say that – my head was turned straight away.</blockquote>
Meanwhile, QPR coach Warburton told the club’s website that he was “delighted” to have Bonne come on board. He said:
<blockquote>Macauley has already shown himself to be a proven goalscorer at this level, and he did it with a team in the lower half of the division.
He can score a variety of goals, he’s young, hungry and has a lot of development potential in him.

The move comes after Charlton rejected several bids from the Championship sides, including two from QPR.  Huddersfield Town, Barnsley and Swansea City were also reportedly interested in signing him.

Some of Charlton Athletic fans have called upon the club to sell striker Macauley Bonne whom they say transfer rumours are distracting him hence a dip in form lately.
Criticism against the Zimbabwean international came after Charlton’s 2-0 defeat at the hands of to Lincoln City at the weekend.
Fans indicated that the club created a handful of chances but Bonne who only had two shots failed to convert them.

English League One side Charlton Athletic have had no bids for Macauley Bonne, the club’s director of football Steve Gallen has said.
Gallen asserted that the club wants to keep the 24-year-old Zimbabwean international striker and has no plans of selling him. He said:

English Premier League side, Burnley are reportedly interested in signing a Zimbabwean striker Macauley Bonne who plies his trade for Charlton Athletic.
Bonne’s club was relegated to League One at the end of the season from the English championship despite Bonne scoring 11 goals in 33 matches of his debut season with the club.
Burnley are reportedly considering Bonne as a back-up option, if they are unable to land number one target, Joshua King who is believed to be unsettled at relegated Bournemouth.
King is reportedly under Everton and Brighton radars.
Championship side Derby County are also reported to be interested in Bonne while Fulham, who were chasing a Premiership place last night in their shoot-out against Brentford at Wembley, are also keeping an eye on the Zimbabwean.
Meanwhile, there are reports suggesting that another Zimbabwean international, Marvelous Nakamba could leave English Premiership side Aston Villa for Turkish club Trabzonspor.
Trabzonspor are seeking to replace former Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi who left the club after a dispute over coronavirus.

English Premiership Side Reportedly Keen To Sign Zimbabwean Striker Bonne

Charlton Athletic suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat at the hands of newly-crowned English Championship champions, Leeds United on Wednesday night and suffered relegation from the second-tier of English football.
Zimbabwe international striker Macauley Bonne started the match alongside Josh Davison in coach Lee Bowyer’s 5-3-2 formation.
Bonne was hauled off in the 79th minuted and replaced with Andre Green.
Leeds scored through Ben White (14), Stuart Dallas (28), Tyler Roberts (51) and Jamie Jamie Shackleton (66).
Following the heavy defeat, Charlton Athletic were relegated to the EFL League One, the third tier of English football.
They finished the 2019/20 season 22nd on the log, with only 48 points from 46 games.
Meanwhile, Tendayi Darikwa’s Nottingham Forest were hammered 4-1 by Stoke City, finishing the season 7th, thus failing to make it to the playoffs.

The score takes him to level with Lyle Taylor who has not played for the London side since the resumption of football after the Covid-19 pandemic-induced pause.

Charlton Athletic have won their first two games since the restart following a 1-0 defeat of QPR on Saturday to move out of the bottom three.

English Championship club, Charlton Athletic has reportedly clinched a deal to sign Warriors striker Macauley Bonne for a reported £200,000 deal from Leyton Orient.
Bonne is expected to be Charlton’s first signing of the summer.
He scored 23 goals in 46 matches for Orient as they won the National League title last season thus getting promotion to League 2.

The management of England based Zimbabwean international soccer player, Macauley Bonne has hit out at “incompetent” Zimbabwe Football Association over its failure to secure the Leyton Orient striker a Zimbabwe passport.

Macauley Bonne’s Management Hit Out At "Incompetent ZIFA"

The Warriors technical team is pushing hard to have Leyton Orient striker Macauley Bonne on the plane to Egypt for the Africa Cup of Nations Finals.
The “next Jamie Vardy”, as he has been dubbed by British media, is keen on playing for his country by descent though he is British by birth.
Bonne was Orient’s chief marksman last season as his 23 goals in 46 matches enabled the club to gain promotion to League Two.
Warriors manager, Wellington Mpandare, revealed that ZIFA has since approached the Government over Bonne’s passport. Said Mpandare:
<blockquote>McCauley Bonne’s case is different in that he is a Zimbabwean by descent and we are engaging the Government, through the Ministry of Sport, who will then talk to the highest office for the much-needed help.
We hope that the Government will waive the requirements as has happened before.
The likes of former national team goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar, golfer Nick Price and others represented this country.
We have been pushing for the waiver (or special dispensation) so that Bonne can get the papers which will enable him to play a part in Egypt.
If he gets the passport on time, obviously, he is in as we are pushing to beat the CAF registration deadline.
We are actually on course as we have already received some of the paperwork so we are just waiting for the next procedure.</blockquote>
