Approximately 22 students from David Livingstone Primary School <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2024/01/19/22-pupils-from-david-livingstone-primary-school-kidnapped/">who were reported kidnapped</a> have been found. It turns out that the driver of the school van, Samuel Honde (60), drove along the Harare-Mutare Road until the van ran out of fuel. The van was found in Macheke, which is about 91 km from Harare. An official from the school narrated:

The students were taken to Marondera Hospital to get a thorough check-up to see if they were physically or emotionally hurt. <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2024/01/19/update-david-livingstone-primary-kids-found/">According to a police report</a>, the driver, Samuel Honde, had been hired by parents to transport the students to and from David Livingstone Primary School in Harare since 2016. When the police asked Honde where he was going, he said he was heading to Kuwadzana Extension in Harare. He was arrested for kidnapping and taken to Macheke Police Station. The children’s families were informed, and the students were taken to Marondera Provincial Hospital for a medical examination. When the police arrived, they found 25 children in the van, consisting of 14 girls and 11 boys aged between 4 and 8. Honde, who is 60 years old and lives at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Kuwadzana Extension, will soon go to court.
According to one of Mr. Honde’s church friends who spoke to Pindula News, the driver was not hired by the parents to transport the children. Instead, he is only a driver of a minibus owned by one of his church friends who has a contract with the parents. He spoke to Pindula News:

The issue is that he has gone through a lot and zvasangana neOld age and it led to this. The narrative being pushed by the media is wrong because they are writing from an uninformed point of view. So someone (Honde) in Macheke who claims he is going to Kuwadzana Extension should tell them something but alas because in Zimbabwe we don’t understand dementia issues and mental health issues. Some decide to keep quiet about their conditions because of discrimination in its various forms.

He also mentioned that the owner of the omnibus had been hired a long time ago to transport the children when he had a small truck. Later, he bought a minibus, and that’s when he hired Mr. Honde to be the driver.

The pupils were subsequently taken to Marondera Hospital for a thorough medical examination to address any physical or emotional harm they may have experienced. A police report of the incident read:

When the responding officers arrived, they discovered 25 children inside the van. There were 14 girls and 11 boys, all between the ages of 4 and 8. The driver of the van, Samuel Honde, who is 60 years old and resides at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Kuwadzana Extension, will soon be appearing in court.

UPDATE: David Livingstone Primary Kids Found

A Macheke couple appeared before Marondera magistrate Ignatius Mhene on Wednesday facing charges of raping their biological children.
According to court papers, the father (41) raped his nine-year-old daughter while the mother sexually abused her 11-year-old son.
The children’s mother allegedly found her husband raping their daughter in their bedroom and did not report the matter to the police.
She reportedly lured their son into her matrimonial bedroom and raped him.
The matter came to light when the two minors were caught having sex by their uncle whom they had visited in Mutoko.
Rev Nyanhete, of the Zimbabwe Network for Children Welfare, condemned the alleged abuse as barbaric and shameful. Said Nyanhete:

We condemn that kind of barbaric act. It’s painful that we have such people who are so ruthless to their children to such an extent.
I think those parents are not suitable parents.
The Government should deny them the right to keep on living with their children.

Shamwari Yemwanasikana’s Ekeria Chifamba said there is a need to intensify awareness campaigns about child protection in the country. She said:

Sadly, the perpetrators, in this case, are parents who are supposed to provide safety nets for their children.
It’s disheartening to imagine the trauma of being sexually exploited by the most trusted people in your life, who are supposed to be your shield and strength.
We need to intensify awareness campaigns about child protection.
Let the message be heard and shared in churches, communities, schools, and on various social media platforms.
Our judiciary has to be harsh on parents who fail to fulfill their rights and responsibility toward their children.
Let the policies enacted be fully implemented.
The accused couple should be given a harsh sentence to deter would-be offenders from committing similar offences.

Couple Rapes Biological Children

Mutasa South legislator <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Misheck_Mugadza">Misheck Mugadza</a> (ZANU PF) was involved in a road accident on Wednesday afternoon in Macheke, Mashonaland East Province while travelling to Harare.
Mugadza’s vehicle was involved in a head-on collision with a haulage truck. He is reportedly admitted at <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/West_End_Hospital">West End Hospital</a> in the capital.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) deputy spokesperson in Mashonaland East Province, Assistant Inspector Misheck Denhere confirmed the accident to NewsDay on Thursday. He said:
I can confirm the accident, but I cannot give you finer details because I am out of office.
ZANU PF Mutare District Coordination Committee (DCC) chairperson Binali Yard yesterday said Mugadza’s condition was stable.
Mugadza, who is also a ZANU PF Manicaland provincial member, won the Mutasa South constituency after defeating CCC candidate Regai Tsunga in the 26 March by-elections.
The seat had fallen vacant after Tsunga was recalled from Parliament by then MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora.

ZANU PF MP Survives Road Accident

Students at Monte Casino Girls in Macheke today besieged Macheke Police Station in protest over yet to be disclosed grievances.
The students are said to have walked a distance of over 6km to Macheke and camped at the police station.
When ZBC News arrived at Mucheke police station, the students were being addressed by the Ministry of Education officials in the presence of the ZRP before they boarded transport back to school.
