Businesswoman and talk show host Rebecca Chisamba, widely known as Mai Chisamba, has become the latest public figure to receive a car from controversial socialite Wicknell Chivayo.
Chivayo, who has gained attention for gifting cars to various public figures, particularly musicians, over the past year, took to social media on Thursday to announce that he had gifted Mai Chisamba a brand-new 2024 Toyota Fortuner 2.4 4×4 Automatic.
In his post, Chivayo praised Mai Chisamba as “Zimbabwe’s own Oprah Winfrey,” calling her a national treasure, a mother to the nation, and a fountain of wisdom. Said Chivayo:

Chivayo claimed that through her Mai Chisamba Show, the TV personality has played a pivotal role in reconciling families and healing broken marriages. He wrote:

In recent days, Chivayo has gifted cars to several prominent figures, including Leonard Zhakata, Mechanic Manyeruke, Moses Chunga, and Charles Mabika, among others.
Recently, Chivayo surprised four female dancers from Jah Prayzah’s band with brand-new Toyota Aqua vehicles.
In response to Chivayo’s post, @Pachisolife commented that Chivayo was part of ZANU PF’s parallel structures and warned that Zimbabweans should not be treated as fools. He said:

Whoever came up with this Political strategy of donating cars to less than 100 people thinking that 16 million people will vote for u to reach 2030 is stupid
Really stupid. Serious people do not fall for this joke. These parallel structures will collapse sooner rather than later.
… He thinks that he is doing a lot of work. Lol. The number of people who have received cars from Wicknell is still way below 100 out of 8 million voters
The objective failed from the beginning. Imagine somebody voting for Wicknell’s parallel ZANU PF because Chisamba got a car.

Mai Chisamba Joins List Of Celebrities Gifted Cars By Chivayo

Television personality and social commentator, Dr Rebecca Chisamba, was elated after she received the Order of the Star of Zimbabwe Silver medal.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Monday, 21 August awarded Dr Chisamba, popularly known as Mai Chisamba, the Order of the Star of Zimbabwe Silver medal during a ceremony at State House in Harare.
Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Mangaliso Ndlovu, who read the credentials of Dr Chisamba, said she received the award in the category of Living Public Service in terms of section 3(3) of Warrant 2 of 2023, as published in Statutory Instrument 144 of 2023.
Ndlovu said Dr Chisamba is deserving of this national honour for her service to the public as her television shows have tackled societal vices and ills that were deemed taboo. He said, as quoted by the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/president-honours-dr-chisamba-as-second-republic-rewards-excellence/">Chronicle</a>:

The experts invited to her shows on various matters have given handy and critical advice, her listeners and viewers have found relief and significantly, solutions for challenges, which at times they would bear silently.
She is practically the National Aunt/Tete Venyika, Ubabakazi Welizwe. Indeed, she has contributed to transforming communities by challenging stereotypes, denouncing harmful practices, dispelling fear, promoting courage and strength and harmonious living.
</blockquote>
Mai Chisamba described the award as “very special and big”, adding that her achievements did not come on a silver platter as she encountered challenges along the way. She said:

I am very happy and excited to have received this award, this award is very special and big. It is not only for me but my family, country and even those who have gone before us.
I want to tell the youth that nothing comes easy, being where I am right now was not easy.
I started in 1986 behind the microphone and this is 2023, holding on to something you believe will take you places.

Ndlovu said Mai Chisamba started off as a teacher with the Audio Visual Services Department of the then Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture, where she would present radio lessons.
He said she eventually left her job initially for a part-time position with the ZBC’s AM Zimbabwe where she successfully hosted shows such as Mhuri Pachinyakare, Mabhuku neVanyori, Masamanisi and Kukwira Gomo.
Ndlovu said Mai Chisamba broke into television when asked to host Today’s Woman/Mudzimai Wanhasi/Umama Wanamuhla as a stand-in. He added:

Eventually, she became the only presenter of the show leading to the show’s name changing to Mai Chisamba Show.
She left ZBC when, together with her husband, they had formed Chisamba Productions and Media Consultancy, currently responsible for the continued successful running of the Amai Chisamba Show.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Monday, 21 August 2023, awarded television personality Rebecca Chisamba the honour of the Order of the Star of Zimbabwe, Silver for her service to the public in tackling societal vices and ills, reported the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/president-mnangagwa-awards-mai-chisamba-order-of-the-star-of-zimbabwe-silver/">Chronicle</a>.
The television talk show host famously known as Mai Chisamba received the award at State House in Harare on Monday morning.
Mai Chisamba (70), who this year celebrated 36 years in broadcasting, rose to fame through her ZBC TV programme “Mai Chisamba Show”.
She also has a weekly column in The Sunday Mail called “Mudzimba.”
Mai Chisamba’s shows address societal vices and ills that are deemed taboo.
