The Zimbabwean Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) have said traditional leaders in Nyanga, Manicaland Province, are persecuted for wearing anything red between June and September. In a statement seen by Pindula News, the lawyers said In his jurisdiction, one Village Head, Misheck Dirorimwe, does not allow his subjects to wear anything red from the month of September to June and anyone who violates the directives is fined. <h2>PERSECUTION OF CITIZENS PLUMBS NEW DEPTHS IN NYANGA</h2>
THE persecution of citizens has plumbed new depths after a Village Head in Nyanga District in Manicaland province recently convicted and ordered one of his subjects to pay fines for wearing red apparel (red cap) in his jurisdiction.
The traditional leader recently took the unprecedented and bizarre decision in which he ordered an 85-year-old villager, Munashe Makunura of Tamunesa village, to pay US$20, four goats and two chickens after faulting him for allowing his grandson, who had visited him, to wear a red cap, a practice which is outlawed by Misheck Dirorimwe, the Village Head.
In his jurisdiction, the Village Head does not allow his subjects to wear anything red from the month of September to June.
Makunura, who was convicted and sentenced by Dirorimwe on 7 January 2022, was also charged for undermining authority of the Village Head by not presenting himself at a primary court session, where he was supposed to answer to the frivolous charges.
Makunura has now engaged two legal practitioners Kelvin Kabaya and Peggy Tavagadza of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, who are in the process of drafting an appeal seeking to set aside the odd decision of the primary court.

Persecution Of Citizens In Nyanga Reach New Levels - Lawyers

A traditional leader from Chipinge, Manicaland, Chief Mupungu has sold a vehicle he received from the government violating the law which stipulates that the vehicles can only be sold after five years.
The government is reportedly in the process of reversing the transaction which would see the chief,, born name Happyson Nxumalo Mupungu receiving a Toyota ToyoAce and $US4 000 for his Isuzu Double cab which has a market value of over US$50 000. The affidavit signed by the chief read:

Manicaland provincial administrator, Edgars Seenza, on Thursday confirmed to Manica Post that the chief had indeed sold the vehicle and said a reversal of the deal was underway.
Reports also suggest that Seenza instructed police in Chipinge to seize the vehicle from Butau who bought the vehicle from the chief.

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said that the victims of tropical cyclone Idai shall start getting new national identity documents next month.
Mutsvangwa said that the government had already started importing the consumables for the documents.
Addressing journalists during a post-Cabinet meeting briefing, Mutsvangwa said:
<blockquote>The issuance of identity documents for victims of Cyclone Idai is set to begin around mid-June, at which time the imported consumables to be used by the Registrar General’s Department for the purpose should have been received in the country.</blockquote>
The initiative comes after several people in Manicaland lost their documents to the cyclone that also destroyed their homes. Reports suggest that some are having a difficult time transacting at financial institutions. Absence of identity documents could also affect students when writing public examinations.

FULL TEXT: MDC 5th Congress Manicaland Province Nominations

MDC Alliance presidential candidate Nelson Chamisa is set to hold four rallies in Manicaland Province which is under Monica Mutsvangwa who is the Minister of State in Manicaland Province.
The first one will be at Gaza Stadium in Chipinge at 12pm today Thursday, July 12. It will be followed by another one at 2pm in Chimanimani West Constituency. On Friday 13 July, MDC Alliance will proceed to Mutasa North for the third rally at 12pm before rounding up with another rally in Mutasa Central.
On Saturday, Chamisa will hold a Star rally in Sakubva Stadium in Mutare. He rounds off the week with another star rally at Mucheke Stadium on Sunday in Masvingo.

Chamisa Invades Mutsvangwa's Territory

Addressing a rally in Mutare, President Emmerson Mnangagwa said that Manicaland will soon be granted Special Economic Zone (SEZ) status. The president said this would enable the province to export goods through the port of Beira easily. Said Mnangagwa,
<blockquote>In our economic plans, Manicaland will be granted a status of Special Economic Zone for the purpose of exportation of our commodities from this area to port of Beira. We have seen it fit to grant you that status as it will create employment opportunities and skills and technology importation for the region.</blockquote>

Manicaland To Be Granted Special Economic Zone Status: Mnangagwa

Recent statistics released by the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency, (Zimstat) in its study titled Zimbabwe Atlas of Poverty Survey show that 70% of people in Manicaland Province live in poverty.
Speaking during a stakeholders workshop for the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) Poverty Alleviation Project held in Mutare, Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and Co-operatives Development, Sithembiso Nyoni said the $7.6 million OPEC Fund for international development loan for projects is expected to reduce the levels of poverty in three provinces: Manicaland, Masvingo and Matabeleland North.

70% of people in Manicaland live in poverty

Zanu-PF Manicaland Province unanimously  resolved that the province’s leaders will finance party programmes during a provincial inter-district conference held in Mutare on Saturday.
Reading out the resolutions, provincial secretary for administration, Kenneth Saruchera said:
<blockquote>Our resolution is that with immediate effect, leaders of the party from provincial to Politburo levels will contribute towards the upkeep of the party’s assets and programmes in Manicaland. Our operations in Manicaland are hamstrung by lack of resources. Our phones at the party offices were cut off and there is no money to fuel the vehicles that were seconded to the province. Individuals have been bankrolling our operations, but we are saying leaders should contribute and ensure that the party is well resourced.</blockquote>
The monthly contributions were pegged as follows: Politburo and Cabinet ministers ($100), deputy ministers ($70), Members of National Assembly ($50), Central Committee members ($20), National Consultative Assembly members ($10), provincial members ($5) and chairpersons of affiliate organisations ($5).

Zanu-PF Manicaland Province leaders to fund party programmes

Zanu-PF Manicaland Province youth chairperson Mubuso Chinguno said that the province’s had resolved to boycott meetings called by Samuel Undenge until his issue had been resolved by the politburo. The province’s executive want Undenge to be relieved of his position as chairperson accusing him of incompetence.
Said Chinguno:
<blockquote>Our position is that we signed a vote of no-confidence against him, our reasons being that he is grossly incompetent. He does not initiate mobilisation programmes and as we go for the 2018 elections we need a person who is easily accessible and who is also competent. Even when he tries to call for meetings we will not attend. We are waiting to hear from the politburo now but as for us, we don’t recognise him.</blockquote>
When contacted for comment by NewsDay, Undenge did not answer his mobile phone yesterday. He recently told State media that he did not recognise the “fraudulent” vote of no-confidence against him claiming it was not passed by the rightful organs.

Zanu-PF Manicaland youth vow to boycott meetings called by Undenge until his matter is resolved

122 candidates who sat for last November’s A-Level exams in Manicaland scored 15 points or better with St Faith’s High and St Augustine’s emerging the best and second best performers in the province.
Manicaland Provincial Education Director, Mr Edward Shumba, said of the 122 candidates, 86 were boys and 36 girls with St Faith’s High having 29 students with 15 points. Of these, six have 20 points and one candidate, Rukudzo Gawa, attained 29 points putting the school’s pass rate at 100%. St Dominic’s has 10 students with 15 points, of which one had 18 points, 13 with 14 points and an overall pass-rate of 96.1 percent.
