Former Public Service Commission Chairman Dr Mariyawanda Nzuwah who died on Tuesday morning has been declared a National Hero.
Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe confirmed the development adding that details of the burial will be announced in due course.

Dr Nzuwah was the PSC Chairman for 26 years starting in 1992 until he retired in 2018.
The long-serving Public Service Commission Chairman died at the age of 68.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Wednesday said Nzuwah was very dedicated and loyal to his country.

Former PSC Chairman Mariyawanda Nzuwa Declared National Hero

In a statement Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Misheck Sibanda announced that President Emmerson Mnangagwa appointed Mr Vincent Hungwe as the Public Service Commissions (PSC) chairperson with effect from June 1. Hungwe takes over from Dr Mariyawanda Nzuwah.
Hungwe’s appointment was made in terms of Section 202 Sub-section (1) (a) of the Constitution following the retirement of his predecessor Dr Mariyawanda Nzuwah in March. Before Hungwe’s appointment, Dr Mary Margaret Muchada was the acting chairperson.

Mnangagwa Appoints Mariyawanda Nzuwah's Replacement

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has named Dr Mary Magarat Muchada as the interim chairperson of the Civil Service Commission. She replaces for former boss Mariywanda Nzuwah who was retired by the President after serving more than 24 years as boss for civil servants.
In a press statement, R Chikowere, the acting secretary for information, Media and Broadcasting Services said,

Mnangagwa Names Mariyawanda Nzuwah's Replacement

President Emmerson Mnangagwa is reported to have retired the chairman of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) Mariyawanda Nzuwah. Nzuwah received his retirement letter from the Office Of the President and Cabinet as he has reached the retirement age of 65. He has been replaced by his former deputy, Mary Margaret Muchada until a substantive replacement is found.
Nzuwah served as the chairperson of the CSC for more than two decades after taking over from Malcolm Thompson in 1992.  President Mnangagwa government has committed itself to retiring all civil servants once they reach 65 years of age.

Civil Service Boss Mariyawanda Nzuwah Retired By ED After Reaching Pensionable Age

In a statement, the chairperson of the Public Service Commission (PSC), Dr Mariyawanda Nzuwah reminded civil servants that Wednesday is a public holiday and warned them that Tuesday is not a half day. Statement reads:
<blockquote>Statutory Instrument Number 143 of 2017 (gazetted on November 24, 2017) provides that: ‘His Excellency, the President, in terms of Section 2 (2) of the Public Holidays and Prohibition Act (Chapter 10:21), hereby makes the following notice:- 1. This notice may be cited as the Public Holidays and Prohibition of Business Notice, 2017.
2. It is hereby declared that the 21st of February every year henceforth, shall be a public holiday to be known as the Robert Gabriel Mugabe National Youth Day. Accordingly, Wednesday 21st February is a Public Holiday with respect to public officers.</blockquote>
