Sungura musician Mark Ngwazi has expressed disappointment after he failed to win a single award at the 21st National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA) held on Saturday in Harare.
However, Ngwazi said his main objective is not to win awards but to produce entertaining music for his fans.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/ngwazi-speaks-on-nama-loss/">H-Metro</a>, the Njanja Express leader said he was happy and appreciates the NAMA nomination despite not winning the People’s Choice Award. He said:

Yes, I wanted to win the award, but for me, it’s never about winning, but staying true.
The recognition itself is already a big win. It was really good to be recognised among the best.
My main objective when writing music is to be true to myself and give people the music they want.
</blockquote>
The NAMA nomination was Ngwazi’s first since the beginning of his career.
He said he is currently in the studio working on a new album set for release later this year.
Ngwazi also said he is currently working on a number of videos for his latest album “Nharo Nezvine Nharo”.

"I Wanted To Win", Mark Ngwazi Speaks On NAMA

Sungura musician Mark Ngwazi said he was humbled by Nicholas Zakaria’s gesture when he assisted him free of charge when he recorded his second album in 2017.
Ngwazi revealed that Zakaria, who is widely known as Madzibaba or Senior Lecturer in the music industry, showed up to his recording studio even though he didn’t know who he was.
He said the Senior Lecturer helped him on the song Vaimbi on the album titled Gudo Muriwo. Said Ngwazi:

Let me take this time to appreciate my father, Nicholas Zakariah.
In 2017 when I wanted to release my second album, I looked for his number and contacted him to ask for his help.
Without any hustle Madzibaba showed up at the studio I was recording my music.
He helped me without even knowing me. After helping me on a song, he didn’t ask for any money.
When he I called him, he didn’t know my name, and he asked when he should come to the studio.

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mark_Ngwazi">Mark Ngwazi</a> said that his forthcoming album, which is set to be released this year, will carry a message of hope.
The Sungura musician said he will dedicate the album to poor people, orphans and the elderly.
He also revealed that he was looking for musicians to be part of his project. Ngwazi said:

I have decided to dedicate my upcoming album to poor people, orphans and the elderly.
My prayer is that they find something to hold on to.
As a musician, there is nothing much I can do, but give hope to them.
How many people are willing to work with me, to help me achieve this dream?

Ngwazi was however yet to settle for the name of the album and how many tracks it will have.
In June 2022, <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/i-have-2-albums-and-318-songs-ready-to-be-released-mark-ngwazi/">Ngwazi said that he already had two unreleased albums and 318 songs.</a>
His song Nyaradzo Yababa off his 2022 album Nharo Nezvine Nharo shot to number one on the National FM Top 50 end-of-the-year charts and was number two on the Radio Zimbabwe Top 50.

Mark Ngwazi Dedicates 7th Album To Poor People And Orphans

Sungura musician Mark Ngwazi said he cancelled his show that was set to take place at PaGomba Cafe in Beitbridge at the weekend because he had not reached an agreement with the promoter over payment.
Mark’s young brother, Tindo, was drafted in by the promoter to replace the Njanja Express band leader but was forced to exit the stage by revellers after playing only three songs.
Officer commanding <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/08/10/revellers-throw-stones-at-aborted-mark-ngwazi-show/">Beitbridge police Chief Superintendent Tichaona Nyongo on Tuesday said</a> that there “there was crowd trouble at the PaGomba Cafe when an artiste who was supposed to play at the weekend did not show up”.
Speaking in an interview with H-Metro, Ngwazi blamed the promoter for the fiasco saying he should have told revellers the truth instead of taking their money. Said Ngwazi:

We cancelled the show the day before the actual date after we failed to agree on certain terms.
And, he decided to instead replace me with my brother.
I did not send my younger brother to replace me. How was I going to do that without being paid any money?
It wasn’t a bad idea to take my brother, but the promoter was supposed to tell the people that I wasn’t coming for the show.
The promoter was supposed to cancel the show since we had not agreed. He was supposed to tell people the truth that I wasn’t coming to perform rather than making people pay without knowing what had transpired.

Police said the revellers destroyed the windows of a minibus that was used as the cash point into the venue.

Sungura musician, Mark Ngwazi, who recently released a new album which is topping the local radio charts, said that he already has two unreleased albums and 318 songs.
Ngwazi recently released an album titled “Nharo Nezvine Nharo” and one of his songs titled “Vakadzi” was number one on National FM Top 20 weekend show while “Nyaradzo Yababa” was number two in its second week on Radio Zimbabwe.
The “Taurai Madzoka” singer said he was elated that his album has conquered the airwaves considering that “there are many great musicians in Zimbabwe”.
Speaking to H-Metro, Ngwazi said that he had contemplated releasing two albums this year but was stopped from doing so by his fans. He said:

I could have released two albums this year but my fans stopped me from doing that.
There are two albums that are ready and already have titles.
They are called Masters Of Disaster and Bhazi Haritsike Ari Mugomo.
I also have 318 unreleased songs.
On albums, I will choose with my team which one will be released first.
People should expect more great works because we will be trying to surpass all our previous work.

Ngwazi has seven albums to his name among them are; Charger Yetsono (2018), Chamugwedugwedu Chamatindike (2020) and Nharo Nezvine Nharo (2020).

Sungura artiste Mark Ngwazi has thanked his fans for their support following the launch of his latest album titled “Nharo ne Zvinenharo.”
The Budiriro-based musician’s album launch was well attended, with one of his fans, Blessing Gomo, travelling all the way from South Africa for the launch.
Gomo paid R13 000 for a CD of the new album and also pledged to take the Njanja Express band on a tour of South Africa.
Another Ngwazi fan, Spencer Chuma, bought the album for a whopping US$500.
A businessman, Joseph Murimwa, of One Thousand Construction, gave Ngwazi a 450-square metre residential stand.
Another Harare-based businessman Munyaradzi “Goldfinger” Makombora bought the album for US$350 in cash.
He also pledged to finance the production of two videos from the new album.
Faith Mashami, a Harare businesswoman who also manages Ashton “Mbeu” Nyahora, bought the new album for US$300.
The Deputy Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Tino Machakaire was also among the people who bought Ngwazi’s new album. Said Ngwazi:

I cannot describe the feeling. I never thought that the album launch will be this successful.
I want to thank our fans for supporting, not only me but the sungura music genre. Without their support, we will not go far.

The “Chamugwegwedu” hitmaker dismissed claims that players in the sungura genre are divided. He said:

We are not fighting each other. In fact, we are one and are dedicated to working with each other.
In my case, I learned a lot and got inspired by the veterans in the industry such as Alick Macheso, Nicholas Zakaria, Simon Mutambi and Romeo Gasa.

Mark Ngwazi has clashed with Peter Moyo ahead of their show “Sungura Sting” at Yadah Ministries Hotel with the former making fun of the <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/09/13/tongai-moyos-son-releases-a-song-seemingly-directed-to-his-half-brother-peter-moyo/">young Igwe for failing to maintain the legacy of his late father Tongai Dewa Moyo.</a>
The duo is scheduled to meet at the PHD Ministries on Tuesday and Ngwazi declared that he will prove that the Utakataka Express band leader is nothing but a footballer. The Mutaure Modzoka hitmaker said:

The Utakataka frontman in response said Mark Ngwazi is one hit wonder who has just arrived at the party while Utakataka has experience with live shows. Peter Moyo said:
<blockquote>When it comes to stage perfomances Utakataka is number one and we are ready to humiliate Ngwazi for trying to make his name by one tune.
We have been tried and tested several times but Ngwazi is a novice when it comes to music and people will get the opportunity to watch from the comfort of their homes.</blockquote>
Murozvi Mukuru added that the people, who are the judges, will be home and sober therefore the verdict will be a true reflection of what would have transpired.
