CCC councillors in opposition-dominated Marondera have sought to distance themselves from a statement issued by the Municipality of Marondera congratulating Vice President Constantino Chiwenga for his re-appointment by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The congratulatory message, which has been interpreted as an endorsement of Mnangagwa’s victory in the 23 August 2023 elections, reads:

His Worship, the Mayor, Cllr A Nyakarombo, Councillors, the Town Clerk, Management and Staff of the Municipality of Marondera extend their warmest congratulations to the Vice President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Rtd General Cde Constantino Guvheya Dominic Nyikadzino Chiwenga, on his re-appointment as the Vice President of Zimbabwe.
We wish him all the best as he continues to provide visionary leadership towards the realization of Vision 2030.
The Vice President’s astute leadership Inspires us, and we are committed to becoming a vibrant smart city that delivers excellent municipal services in accordance with NDS1 and Vision 2030.

However, in a statement, Marondera mayor, Ward 8 Councillor Abel Nyakarombo, distanced CCC from the congratulatory message, saying that it emanated from people who want to cause confusion in the opposition party. He said:

We, as CCC Councillors, have nothing to do with this wish. This is purely the hand of those who intend to cause confusion and divisions among us.
We, as deployees, remain guided by our leadership. We do not act independently from the Party to which we subscribe.
I want to make it categorically clear, that whoever manufactured this article will answer questions. As a municipality, we do not have any one of us who can act unilaterally.
We are bound by the spirit of working together without any trace of discord among us. Our best tools for us to be together are engagement, consultation and unity.
Anybody who makes decisions without consulting will be fighting our resolve to be a united front.
This is one unilateral decision. Which was taken without consultations and engagements. We have no input whatsoever on this piece.

CCC Dominated Marondera Council Disowns Chiwenga Congratulatory Message

The Municipality of Marondera is contemplating turning a golf course located along Harare-Mutare highway into a residential area.
Whilst residents have welcomed the decision, golfers who attended a budget consultative meeting at council chambers recently asked for a way forward saying that the golf course has been attracting local golfers from all over the country.
In response, Marondera Town Planner Never Besa revealed that the local government authority had since identified an alternative place in Rufaro Longlands, about 10km from the CBD. Besa said:
<blockquote>According to the1986 masterplan plan, the golf course area was reserved for the CBD extension.
This therefore means that the space will be turned onto commercial stands. However, we have identified a place in Rufaro where a new golf course can be established.</blockquote>
Open Council reports that Marondera has been under immense pressure from Marondera Residents Association (MARA) who wanted the Municipality to unveil residential stands after the invasion of land near the golf course failed.
The publication further observes that although the decision might be a noble cause as it intends to provide shelter to residents, establishing a golf course is equally expensive and would require a lot of expertise which is reportedly in limited supply in Zimbabwe.
