Three illegal miners allegedly escaped from a collapsed shaft in Mazowe last week leaving behind their trapped colleague.
The trapped partner who was identified as Ngonidzashe Mayimbo died on the spot while his colleagues fled from the scene.
Mashonaland Central police spokesperson confirmed the case without giving further details.
Witnesses said the three illegal miners escaped and the body was subsequently found by other miners two days after the fateful incident.
The body was retrieved and ferried to Concession mortuary for post mortem.
Since the beginning of the rainy season last year, Zimbabwe has recorded a handful of mine collapses some of which claimed many lives.
Evacuations are underway at some mines while some operations have been suspended after advisers had opined that it was too dangerous to try and rescue those trapped.

Illegal Miners Abandon Colleague As Mine Collapses

Police in Mashonaland Central Province last week found a body of a middle-aged man floating in Gulliver Dam, Mvurwi.
Police suspect that the deceased may have been finishing when he drowned after some fisherman’s nets were found close to the spot where the body was retrieved.
Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) spokesperson Detective Inspector Portia Chinho has appealed to members of the public who could be missing a relative to come and identify the dead body. Chinho said in a press release:
<blockquote>The Zimbabwe Republic Police, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Mvurwi is appealing for information that may lead to the identification of a dead body.
It is of a male aged between 35 and 40 years and about 1, 75 to 1, 8 metres.
The deceased was wearing a khaki three-quarter short with a brown leather belt, red t-shirt written Gucci and a khaki shirt.
The dead body was taken to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for post mortem which indicated that the cause of death was head trauma hence the case is being investigated as a suspected murder.
We are also appealing to members of the public who might have information on the circumstances surrounding the death of the man to come forward and assist the police.

Corpse Found Floating In Dam

MDC Alliance provincial youth chairman for Mashonaland Central, Tonderai Samhu, and four others were on Monday sentenced to six years in prison each. They were found guilty of barricading roads and burning tyres in Mvurwi during the January fuel protests.
The six are Samhu (34), together with Wonder Zuze (35), Beverly Mureya (41), Patris Dandajena (34) and Elisha Benjamin (50). Bindura magistrate Vongai Guwuriro suspended two years of the sentences.
The five were part of the 12 Mvurwi protesters who were arrested in January. The other 7 were acquitted due to lack of evidence.

MDC Youth Chair For Mash Central Province Jailed 6 Years Over January Protests

ZANU PF Mashonaland Central province has broken ranks with other party organs that have called for the raising of the presidential age limit. A Newsday Source said
<blockquote>We rejected that proposal. It does not help our situation that we want to show the world we want to open up the democratic space, yet the party turns around and seeks legal instruments to shut a section of the populace out of the same.</blockquote>
ZANU PF youth league leader Godfrey Tsenengamu wrote on Facebook
<blockquote>Political maturity has nothing to do with age. Personally, am against the amendment. I oppose it. It is not necessary.</blockquote>
However, provincial Chairperson Kazembe Kazembe said
<blockquote>The issue was brought up for discussion, but no resolution was made, because some were against the proposal, while others supported it. It came from our districts.</blockquote>
According to the Constitution of Zimbabwe, Section 91, a person qualifies for election as President or Vice-President if he or she is a Zimbabwean citizen by birth or descent, has attained the age of 40, is ordinarily resident in Zimbabwe, and is registered as a voter.
The ZANU PF Women’s League, Youth League and War Veterans have all supported the controversial move though Deputy Minister for Information and Broadcasting Services Energy Mutodi said that President Emmerson Mnangagwa does not support the position.

ZANU PF Mash Central Province Says NO To Presidential Age Limit Proposal

Zanu-PF Mashonaland Central is appealing to civil servants to fund President Robert Mugabe’s interface rally which will take place in Bindura on Saturday 9 September.

Zanu-PF "forces" civil servants to contribute towards Mugabe's Mash Central rally

Addressing the Zanu PF Mashonaland Central Province Special Coordination Committee meeting held in Bindura, the party’s National Secretary for Youth Affairs, Kudzanayi Chipanga announced that the Mashonaland Central Province Presidential Youth Interface rally will be held on Saturday 9 September at the Bindura golf course.
The rally had initially been set for Chipadze Stadium, but was changed in anticipation of a bigger crowd. Soon after the meeting, the Provincial Coordinating Committee members accompanied by Chipanga and his delegation visited Bindura golf course.

Zanu-PF announces date and venue for Mugabe's next rally

Zanuu-PF Mashonaland Central Provincial Co-ordinating Committee members yesterday snubbed a meeting called by acting chairperson Dickson Mafios which The Sunday Mail says was meant to drum up support for Saviour Kasukuwere.
The Sunday Mail reports that only two MPs were present while the main wing, Women’s League and Youth League were also poorly represented. Some members who did not attend due to various reasons are; Zanu-PF deputy provincial chairman Kazembe Kazembe, Bindura North legislator Kenneth Musanhi and Mashonaland Central Minister of State for Provincial Affairs Advocate Martin Dinha.
