South Africa’s Education Ministry Thursday released the results for the 2022 Matric examinations. 
Angie Motshekga, the minister of basic education, reported that the class of 2022’s matric pass rate was 80.1%, the second-highest mark since 2019.
She said all nine provinces upped their matric performance with KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng contributing the most passes that qualify to study further at university.
The minister commended the matriculants for their resilience, <a href="https://www.enca.com/news/2022-matric-results-all-9-provinces-their-matric-performance-game">eNCA News</a> reported.
Even though the pass rate has improved generally, some schools still have a long way to go.
Despite the fact that no district’s pass percentage dropped below 60%, Motshekga said her agency will focus particularly on underperforming districts in the upcoming year.
National Professional Teachers’ Organisation of South Africa (NAPTOSA) praised teachers for their work during the 2022 matric exams.
Basil Manuel, the executive director of the union in Naptosa, claims that teachers made time-consuming sacrifices to ensure that students produced quality work. Says Manuel:

Teachers have spent an enormous amount of time on the learners, they spent additional time and holidays too.
In the long run it’s not going to be sustainable because we are worried about their mental health.

Manuel says he understands the reasons now and lauds them for their sacrifices.

South Africa Matric Results: Teachers Applauded For Higher Pass Rate

South Africa’s Education Department has announced that the matric class of 2022 can expect their results on 19 January 2023.
In a statement seen by Pindula News, the Education Department said matriculants can collect their results at the centre where they wrote their papers.
Pupils can get their original statement of results from 20 January. Read the statement issued by the department on Monday 2 January 2023:

South Africa: Education Department Announces Date For Matric Results

A student from Tembisa is alleged to have shot and killed his teacher only identified as Ngendane Phomolong because he failed his matric.
The development was shared by a social media user only identified as Sigujana on his Twitter handle. He said:

Some of these comments are alarming. Most of us had a teacher we couldn’t stand at school, but that does not excuse murdering them. They have lives and families too. We can’t go around killing people, just because they were rude or mean to us.

When I was matriculating, our Physical Science teacher said to us “ngeke siyiphase physics sidonsa ngo diesel” that was my last time attending his class. It was right just before mid-year exams. I hate him to this day.

South Africa: Student Shoots And Kills Teacher After Failing Exams

South Africa’s Department of Basic Education announced on Wednesday that the matric class of 2021 will not be writing their mid-year examinations.
Authorities said the cancellation was a result of the loss of academic learning due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which led to the 2020 Grade 11 class not being able to complete the year’s curriculum. DBE spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga said:
<blockquote>_In order to recoup some lost curriculum time, they didn’t close in the last school recess. As an additional measure the normal assessments which they do during the middle of the year, normally referred to as June exams, will not take place._</blockquote>
<blockquote>_They are worse off because they need to finish the curriculum for two reasons; they didn’t finish the syllabus of 2020 and yet schools started late for the academic year 2021._

The June mid-year exams are often the first taste for matrics of how the final end of year National Senior Certificate exams may be. The June exams are often followed by the September exams also known as the “Trials”.
Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga told the Education portfolio committee that the plan was to keep matrics in class for as long as possible. She was quoted by the Sowetan as saying:
<blockquote>_We want to make up for the loss of time and for them to cover the curriculum. They did not go on holiday in March, and most of the schools are giving extra classes. The (usual) June period of exams will be used to cover the curriculum. We also have a team monitoring Covid-19 infections on a daily basis._</blockquote>
Meanwhile, the <a href="https://www.iol.co.za/education/mayjune-2021-national-senior-certificate-exams-to-start-on-wednesday-825df977-b926-465a-81ea-34b0ede6722e" id="link-0455ad0d8f141f068e8adb95062cd3c0">Second Chance matric exams</a> for all those who wrote exams previously and did not pass or those trying to upgrade their marks are in progress to be able to apply using <a href="https://blog.vacancymail.co.za/new-editable-pdf-z83-application-for-employment-form-download-2021/">new z83 application forms</a>.
Candidates sat for their first exam on May 26 and the exams will conclude on July 7.

South Africa: June 2021 Matric Examinations Cancelled

South African-based Zimbabwean female student, <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/01/31/mdc-a-mp-acquitted-of-theft-charges/">Triphin Mudzvengi who was reported to be in need of R130 000 to study Civil Engineering degree at the University of Witwatersrand</a> is finally getting assistance.
New Zimbabwe reports that Mukuru, a fintech company that offers financial services to under-served communities on the continent has offered R100 000 towards Triphin’s tuition fees for 2020.
The development comes after former vice-chancellor of the University of the Free State Prof Jonathan Jansen got in touch with the 18-year-old after reading her story and set the ball rolling.
Jansen revealed that there have already been offers from the private sector, individuals, private donors adding that they will know in the next few days if the money raised is enough to help Triphin over the duration of the degree, “not just in her first year.”
Triphin was accepted at the University after attaining seven distinctions in her final Matric Examinations (ZIMSEC/Cambridge equivalent in South Africa).
Triphin got 85% in English Home Language, 80% in Afrikaans First Additional Language, 86% in Mathematics, 89% in Life Orientation, 86% in Computer Application Technique, 94% in Life Sciences and 88% in Physical Sciences but her parents who have menial jobs could not afford to pay her university fees.
Triphin’s asylum status makes her ineligible to get sponsorship from the Zimbabwean government since that would be a violation of South Africa’s laws.
