A group of people suspected to be MDC Alliance youth activists today staged a flash demo at Zimbabwe Electoral Commission Offices demanding that the elections body hold by-elections to replace lawmakers that were recalled or those that died, ZimLive reports.
According to the publication, the activist had placards written:

No reports of arrest have been recorded during or after the flash demo so far. In November last year, Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi said the by-elections will remain suspended as the government focuses on fighting COVID-19. The MDC T over the course of 10 months recalled over 30 MDC Alliance legislators and over 50 councilors countrywide after the Supreme court said Nelson Chamisa was not the legitimate leader of the MDC T.

Suspected MDC Alliance Youths Demonstrate At ZEC Offices

The MDC Alliance has released a statement distancing itself from claims made by its former woman affairs leader for Bulawayo Tendai Masotsha that <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/11/24/listen-a-woman-who-claims-she-is-tendai-masotsha-claims-tawanda-muchehiwa-wanted-to-burn-govt-buildings/">Tawanda Muchehiwa wanted to bomb government buildings in Bulawayo.</a> This was contained in a statement that also condemned the arrest of Mayor Jacob Mafume who is being charged with criminal abuse of office.
Part of the statement that dismisses reports in the state media claiming the plot by the MDC Alliance to commit terrorist activities have been exposed reads:

1. The perpetrators of thc abduction of Tawanda Muchehiwa. namely state agents and ferret forces sent by Mr Mnangagwa’s regime, a. all those cotnplieit in the said abduction – including Impala Car Rental Company must be expeditiously brought to book for the torture and atrocities .mmined against Tawanda Muchehiwa.
2. The M DC Alliance unequivocally dissociates itself with the utterances expressed by Tendai Masotsha in an audio recording which was circulated publicly on or about thc 24 of November 2020, post our internal inquiry. The said utterances run contrary to the values. beliefs. principles and disposition of the party. As a matter of record. the alleged conversation with Hon Jameson Timba never t.k place.
3. As a pany of rules, the National Standing Committee resolves and recommends to the National Council that Tendai Masotsha be expelled from the MDC: Alliance in accordance with thc provisions of the party Constitution on the grounds that her conduct violates thc values that govern the party and her continued membership would be detrimental to the MDC Alliance.

The MDC Alliance Dissociates Itself From Tendai Masotsha's Claims

Nelson Chamisa, the leader of the opposition MDC has suspended the entire leadership of the party’s Masvingo Province following a heated debate on Sunday.
This was revealed in a statement circulating on social media by a disgruntled MDC supporter identified as Nyasha Munemo. The statement suggests the suspension was mainly caused by the recent loss in the Mwenezi West by-election. The statement reads in part:
<blockquote>The by elections results are telling, we may blame Zanu dirty tactics. But in Masvingo today the President openly admitted that things are falling apart.
He was forced to expel the entire provincial leadership. What Chamisa forgets is that he is equally part of the Masvingo province problem. He hails from Masvingo but wants to label himself as someone not from Masvingo. You are a part of the failed Masvingo Leadership.</blockquote>
Zimbabwe Democracy Institute (ZDI) director Pedzisai Ruhanya believes Chamisa is justified. He said:
<blockquote>The decision to put these leaders on suspension is welcome given that more than half of the MDC officials in Masvingo reside in Harare. They just went there as visitors, they are more of tourist leaders.
MDC cannot justify 27 votes. It shows there is sickness in how MDC structures were set in Masvingo.</blockquote>

Chamisa Suspends Entire Provincial Leadership Following Heated Debate

Police have advised the MDC that the party should join others in the Presidential Clean-Up which is carried out on the first Friday of every month. This was after the MDC had requested to conduct a clean-up campaign on 31 January.

The leader of the opposition MDC, Nelson Chamisa has said that his party targets to take power from the ruling ZANU PF.
He said that the party has to push for electoral reforms and to enhance its strategies so as to win the rural vote which he said was essential if the party had to attain state power.
In his New Year’s message to party supporters on Wednesday, Chamisa said:
<blockquote>We must focus on the core business and sole agenda of the party agenda that is to win elections and attain State power for real change. We must have strong vibrant structures, zero imposition, zero factionalism, zero corruption, zero division and zero writing names of fictitious structures or lists of friends.
Our party goal is to win elections and attain state power to make a difference in people’s lives.</blockquote>
The MDC has since its formation been struggling to penetrate the rural vote and that has been its great hindrance to attaining state power.
Since 2018, the party has not won a single by-election in the rural areas making it worrisome as the 2023 elections are fast approaching.

"Our Party Goal Is To Win Elections And Attain State Power," Chamisa Speaks On Rural Vote

The opposition MDC led by Nelson Chamisa has revealed in a statement that it met with the National Peace and Reconciliation (NPRC) and expressed concern over the commission’s lack of action on violence in the country.
The party revealed that it pointed out issues to do with the commission’s independence, autonomy and impunity enjoyed by some known individuals. Part of the statement reads:
<blockquote>As a party, the MDC has been a victim of Zanu PF and State-sponsored violence in which thousands of people have been brutally killed, with no action taken against the culprits.
The party leader- ship insisted in the meeting that peace and reconciliation alone were not enough as justice had to be seen to be done particularly against the perpetrators of violence and genocide against the people.</blockquote>
Meanwhile, the commission confirmed to the Daily News that it had met with the MDC but indicated that it told the party that no victim of violence, including the MDC, had approached the commission with a complaint.
The State, however, is denying allegations by the MDC that it is sponsoring and sanctioning violence against citizens, MDC members and human rights defenders saying a “third force” which is determined to soil the image of the government was committing acts of violence.

"MDC Has Been A Victim Of ZANU PF And State-Sponsored Violence," MDC Tells NPRC

A letter from the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) Zimbabwe reveals that there is a newly formed or launched party, MDC Zimbabwe.
This comes when there are two MDCs already, the MDC led by Nelson Chamisa and the other led by Thokozani Khupe.
Ironically, the MDC led by Chamisa uses the name <a href="https://www.facebook.com/zimbabwemdc/">MDC Zimbabwe on social media.</a>
Although there is no information at the moment to suggest who the leaders of the new party are, the address suggests that the party’s main offices are in Gweru, Midlands.
The letter read as follows:

An opposition leader in Zimbabwe has defended police brutality against MDC Alliance supporters saying it was necessary since they were dealing with a violent organisation.
Obert Gutu, Vice President of the opposition MDC led by Dr Thokozani Khupe was speaking after the police violently dispersed MDC supporters and reporters who were gathered at Morgan Tsvangirai House where MDC-A leader, advocate Nelson Chamisa was delivering his Hope of The Nation Address this Wednesday. Posting on Twitter, Gutu said:
<blockquote>What do you expect the Police to do when they’re dealing with a renegade, violent, terrorist organisation? Do you expect the Police to fold their arms &amp; watch as violent hooligans run amok?
Come on! Give us a break!</blockquote>
Gutu used to be the spokesperson of the MDC during the time of the late founding father of the party, former Prime Minister, Morgan Tsvangirai.
The legal expert who has been accused of being a ZANU PF agent resigned from the party citing intraparty violence and he joined the MDC led by Khupe which also came out of power wrangles within the party which became apparent immediately before the death of Tsvangirai.
The MDC’s party leadership case is at the courts.

"Do You Expect The Police To Fold Their Arms," Zimbabwe Opposition Political Leader

Zanu PF National Political Commissar, Victor Matemadanda has advised Western countries to ditch opposition parties saying they were wasting their resources on projects destined to fail.
His remarks come as there are reports suggesting that Western countries have been sponsoring the opposition MDC in a bid to dislodge ZANU PF from power.
Addressing party supporters at a rally to mobilise support for the ZANU PF candidate in the Wedza Rural District Council Ward 4 by-election set for this Saturday, Matemadanda said:
<blockquote>My advice to the West is that they should not waste their resources supporting losing parties, come and join Zanu PF and have a taste of sweet victory.</blockquote>
Meanwhile, the opposition MDC has often claimed that <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/04/01/chamisa-spokesperson-claims-cowdray-park-by-election-was-rigged/">the ruling ZANU PF does not win elections</a> but <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/08/15/mdc-takes-zec-to-court-over-rigged-lupane-by-elections/">engages in vote-buying</a>, election results manipulation and <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2018/08/09/full-text-election-was-a-mixed-bag-some-were-exposed-to-intimidation-and-threats-zim-human-rights-commission/">intimidation of voters</a>.
The party is still at loggerheads with the ruling party over <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/03/26/mnangagwa-got-only-33-of-presidential-vote-in-2018-elections/">the 2018 presidential elections</a> which it claims were manipulated by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission in favour president Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Matemadanda Advises The West To Ditch "Losing Parties" And "Join Zanu-PF"

Members of the oppositioN MDC in Masvingo province are reportedly fighting for influential positions in the party.
Regional chairperson, James Gumbi and former deputy youth minister, Tongai Matutu are allegedly at loggerheads as Matutu is sabotaging party programmes in a bid to portray the chairperson as a failure in the eyes of the national leadership.
Gumbi told Daily News that Matutu and those backing him had the backing of party bigwigs. He added:
<blockquote>The problem is that he (Matutu) is supported by a good number of national standing committee members that is why he does what he is doing without reprimand.
We offered him the position of provincial secretary as we attempted to unite the party after Congress, but he refused because he thinks he is bigger than that. Under those circumstances, what can we do?</blockquote>
On the other hand, Matutu accuses Gumbi’s executive of failure saying that it was not properly elected and has failed to set up proper local structures.
The alleged factionalism comes at a time when the party has so far performed dismally in the by-elections held countrywide.

MDC Assembly of Women has said that the political culture in the country was shoving women, particularly rural women, from the political arena. The party said that the inclusion of women in governance issues was essential for the transformation of communities and the country at large. Below is the Assembly’s statement issued on International Day of the Rural Woman.
<blockquote>The MDC Assembly of Women today joins the world in celebrating International Day of the Rural Woman. Over 80% of women in Zimbabwe live in communal areas where they form the bulk of the farmers and provide most of the labour.
Rural women depend mainly on agriculture and the lack of property rights compounds their plight yet they play a pivotal role in the development of our communities. Their state in communities defeats the logic of equity as enshrined in the supreme law of the land.</blockquote>

<blockquote>The MDC Assembly of Women is disheartened to note that women in rural areas remain economically disenfranchised as most of them survive on subsistence farming where they get little returns from non-viable markets.
Political violence is a major inhibitor of women participation in politics. Zimbabwe’s political landscape has become a hard-hat area for rural women, where rape, torture and asset-stripping do not resemble any modernity. The Assembly calls for fairness and equality on the political field and this can only be achieved if victimisation real or imagined, as well as stereotyping, is eradicated.
The Assembly further notes with concern the glaring disparities in access to information between rural and urban women dwellers. Reports indicate that about 37% of women in Zimbabwe have no access to media and therefore calls for redress in this regard.
It is our desire to have educated, informed and empowered women in rural areas. The Assembly, therefore, advocates for special training programmes and awareness campaigns. To that effect, communities need to take into consideration and value the multiple roles that women do in development.
The MDC believes that having more women in local governance especially in rural district councils will help in tackling major issues that affect women most.

The party was supposed to have its anniversary celebrations today at Rufaro Stadium but postponed the celebrations to the 28th of September following the death of Zimbabwe’s founding father, former president Robert Mugabe on the 6th of September. The party said they had to mourn with those mourning as per the African culture.
The party celebrates its 20th anniversary when it is now minus several party founders including the late former Prime Minister, Morgan Tsvangirai who died on the 14th of February 2018.
The anniversary also comes when the party has on several occasions split into various fragments with some arguing that the confusion was being sponsored by the ruling ZANU PF.

"It's Been 20 Years Of Courage, Growth & People's Victories" - MDC

Members of the opposition MDC led by Advocate Nelson Chamisa and ZAPU members residing in Cape Town on Wednesday clashed with ZANU PF members at the Cape Town Convention Centre where President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa was attending the World Economic Forum meeting.
Members of the two opposition parties are said to have been mobilising supporters since last week to demonstrate at the meeting that runs from 4 to 6 September.
The parties said that it was time Zimbabweans started showing bravery against the government which they accused of failing to look after its people.
ZANU PF youths were found already at the scene holding placards reading “Well done president ED, Zimbabwe is open for business, invest in Zim today, thank you SADC for solidarity on sanctions”.
Meanwhile, MDC and ZAPU supporters held placards branded “Zanu-PF you are killers and thugs, ED army killed civilians, we demand judicial independence and Zim belongs to all not Zanu-PF”.
The MDC says that the team that was in solidarity with president Mnangagwa constituted of people who did not reside in South Africa.

Zanu PF national spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo has dismissed allegations that it was interfering with MDC preparations for the forthcoming congress.
A ZBC reports that Moyo remarked that the claims by MDC Alliance are untrue. It further says that he views the allegations as meant to create instability in the country.
According to the article, Moyo said:
<blockquote>I must restate that the court ruling by Justice Edith Mushore ordering the MDC party to hold an extraordinary congress within a month to elect a substantive leader using the 2014 MDC structures is purely a matter between the MDC and the courts.</blockquote>

ZANU PF Dismisses Allegations That It Is Interfering With MDC-A Congress Preps

A ZBC News article has claimed that MDC Alliance leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa has threatened to have crippling demonstrations on the aftermath of the party congress.
Chamisa is reported to have mobilised his Chiredzi supporters to join him in the demonstrations. Chamisa said:
<blockquote>Toti tirikuuyako musi wakati kusvika musi wakati, kwete chamuhwande-hwande. Zvatiri kuuyira ndechichi nechichi saka touyako munenge muneni here ndikati touyako (We are coming for you from this date until such a date, we are telling you this openly. We are coming for abc, will you join me in this.).</blockquote>
On May 1, Chamisa warned the government to brace for the mother of all demonstrations, greater than the ZCTU’s in January. He said that this would be to push president Mnangagwa’s government to address both the political and economic crises grounding the country.
In response, the government issued a stern warning against those planning protests saying that the security sector was always ready to maintain and restore order.
The country is at crossroads as the crises go unabated. The soaring inflation has eroded the salaries of workers who no longer afford medical bills and other basic commodities. Consumer rights groups and workers organisations have engaged the government in an endeavor to find a way out of the crises. They also threatened demonstrations in the event that the government fails to address them.

Chamisa Mobilises Supporters For Demos After Congress

Opposition leader Nelson Chamisa has said that it is not feasible to wait for 2023 to correct issues bedevilling Zimbabwe. Chamisa attributes the socio-economic problems to the results of 2018 elections which saw Emmerson Mnangagwa emerging as president. 
Chamisa believes that he won in the presidential election and Mnangagwa manipulated the process. He said:
<blockquote>Why wait for five years. We must begin the journey with the July 2018 disputed elections so that issues of legitimacy are dealt with, issues of parliamentary reforms are dealt with, (and that there is) political dialogue. If there is no political dialogue, we say this and we will say it again, we are going to resort to constitutional avenues and platforms around our rights to express ourselves until what we believe to be the legitimate request is acceded.</blockquote>
The Movement for Democratic Change reports that Mnangagwa has been ignoring Chamisa’s attempts to engage him bilaterally. On the other hand, ZANU PF has said that there cannot be a special treatment for Chamisa. It said Chamisa must join the national dialogue where the majority of parties which contested in the 2018 elections are participants.
Chamisa has been adamant that he would not join the national dialogue if it does not address the legitimacy or illegitimacy thereof of Mnangagwa.
The stalemate has increased tensions in the land when the economy continues to deteriorate unabated. Whilst Chamisa is promising strong protests over the state of affairs, ZANU PF has been issuing to those who would dare.

The opposition MDC Alliance has alleged that President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s trip to the 73rd United Nations General Assembly was full of lies and misrepresentations. In statement,
MDC National Deputy Spokesperson Bekhithemba Mpofu said,
<blockquote>Shameless ED in UN trip of lies
The MDC is irked by Mnangagwa’s misrepresentation of the Zimbabwean situation in front of the whole world in a shameless attempt to sugar coat his limited capacity.
The best way to move forward is to correctly define and characterize the status quo as well as appreciate the challenges ahead.
Mnangagwa’s misrepresentation of facts in New York is worrying.
This misrepresentation of facts might win him a few gullible, impressionable and excitable fanatics back at home and maybe abroad but certainly the world is not blind.
To make matters worse, Mnangagwa lies about issues which are on the fingertips of the people he is trying to impress, this is a second layer of a false start considering the legitimacy issues already arresting the country.
The issue at hand is one that has to do with confidence building, overstating Mnangagwa’s achievements of the past 7 months simply expose his dishonesty and sadly it is a disservice to the nation.
In New York Mnangagwa lied with a straight face that GDP per capita in Zimbabwe rose to $1500 in the first 7 months of his reign of shame. Zimbabwe’s per capital income is $890 according to the United Nations’ country statistics. The African Development Bank places it at $840 while the World Bank using the Atlas method places per capita income at $840.
Mnangagwa is known for confusing figures including his infamous addition of 10 plus 4 adding up to 40; he can be forgiven for making mathematical mistakes but certainly cannot be forgiven for the other lies.
That the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission is a creation of his, is an insult not only to his audience but to the democratic contingent, victims of political violence and their families. Mnangagwa claims to have created the commission when in fact its a constitutional creation. He further claims that he appointed the Commissioners when these were appointed in Mugabe’s time.
It exposes Mnangagwa as a liar but also shows that appointment of commissions are no indicator of real reform.
He further created an impression that the commission had been mandated specifically to deal with the issue of Gukurahundi.
In May of 2017 while he was still the vice president, he claimed that Zimbabwean banks were seating on US$9 billion with no viable projects to fund.
In its latest report on the banking sector at the time, the RBZ had released information to the effect that only US$6 billion was in the banking sector.
A serious leader ought to have at least got the official figures from his subordinates at the RBZ before embarrassing himself and the country as a whole.
He also sensationally claimed that the Mugabe government created 2,2 million jobs, a joke not so funny but rather sickening and an insult to the unemployed masses of Zimbabwe.
His Finance Minister Prof Mthuli Ncube seems to be learning fast, he also lied and mismatched figures while addressing the Zimbabwe Investor Forum on the sidelines of the General Council.
He overstated statistics on the ZSE’s cumulative return since March 2009 to 2000% whose variance to the actual 600% return is just too much of an irreconcilable gap.
Then in a clear sign of selling his soul and committing integrity suicide, Ncube supported Mnangagwa’s claim to create a medium income economy of $3500 GDP per Capita by 2030. This cannot be reconciled with Mthuli’s projections of 6% annual growth rates.
Achieving the above per capita income by 2030 will require an average growth rate of 11% considering population growth does not go beyond 16 Million.
Forget the poor show by John Panonetsa Mangudya in his New York Presentation, the lies by Dambudzo assisted by Mthuli did serious damage in portraying Zimbabwe as a country of dishonest global citizens.
It was a shameless show.
We expect Zanu PF to know that the apparatus used to rig elections back at home are unavailable in the global village.
We need honest re-engagement based on realities on the ground.
Legitimacy issues must be sorted out, there is no substitute to that. The high country risk profile must be eradicated through respect of human and property rights, the rule of law and an honest shunning of corruption.
There must be institutional, political and pain staking economic reform.
In the interim Zimbabwe must do away with pictures dominating international media those of deadly diseases, starving children, economic chaos, political instability and conflict.
These must be issues any serious government will focus on then use this strong foundation as a basis for honest re-engagement.
The UN trip has gone down the drain and tax payer’s money gone to waste.

Full Text: Mnangagwa's United Nations Trip Was Full Of Lies - MDC

MDC Alliance member, Multi-Racial Christian Democrats (MCD) party leader Mathius Guchutu and his special adviser Sebastian Guchutu wrote a letter to Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II pleading with her to consider lifting sanctions against Zimbabwe.
The letter was delivered to the British Embassy in Harare on Tuesday. In his letter, MCD leader Guchutu said EU imposed sanctions were not having the intended effect of removing the Zanu-PF Government from power. Wrote Guchutu:
<blockquote>Impoverishing people doesn’t remove a government from power, it rather entrenches it. The sanctions have unintended consequences. They have ravaged industry and left government as the only entity with allocative power and it comes across as the saviour. The situation on the ground is that instead of weakening Zanu PF, they have strengthened it. This is the context in which patronage thrives. The Zanu PF government has perfected the art of giving people enough so that they do not starve, but not too much so that they may not become independent and dream of challenging its hegemony. The present government has grossly mismanaged the economy, but a lot of economic hardships were triggered by the sanctions.</blockquote>
However, Transform Zimbabwe leader and MDC Alliance spokesperson Jacob Ngarivhume said that sanctions are not to blame for the economic meltdown as suggested by the MCD.
