A Zimbabwean student journalist, <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/08/04/zimlive-editors-nephew-in-terrible-shape-after-being-abducted-and-tortured-for-3-days/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Tawanda Muchehiwa, who was this year abducted and tortured</a> by suspected state security agents has told Sky News how his kidnappers told him to say his last words at gunpoint.
Muchehiwa who is also the nephew of Zim Live editor Mduduzi Mathuthu was later dumped. He was immediately arrested allegedly for obstructing justice as he and other family members were allegedly not forthcoming as far as revealing Mathuthu’s whereabouts.
Mathuthu is a wanted man together with several others after they rallied the citizenry to participate in anti-corruption protests that had been scheduled for July 31.

Abducted, Tortured Student Journalist Speaks To Sky News

The MDC Alliance Bulawayo Province has suspended Tendai Masotsha who is the provincial women’s assembly chairperson for her alleged involvement in the abduction of ZimLive editor Mduduzi Mathuthu’s nephew Tawanda Muchehiwa, CITE.org reports.
The suspension which came after Muchehiwa narrated his abduction and how Masotsha might have helped the abductors, was confirmed by MDC Alliance Bulawayo Spokesperson Swithern Chirowodza who said:
<blockquote>After taking note of journalism student, Tawanda Muchehiwa’s statement published by<a href="https://www.zimlive.com/2020/08/27/i-felt-the-gun-on-the-back-of-my-head-i-had-made-peace-with-death/"> Zimlive,</a> the alleged participation of Tendai Masotsha in Tawanda’s abduction and also the abduction and torture of our Party members in Bulawayo by suspected state security agents, the MDC Alliance Bulawayo Province has suspended and opened investigations into her involvement  in the matter. A concise statement would be issued in the next 48 hours.
This request is also extended to the Party’s National Council. This decision, taken after careful consideration, will assist the Party to finalise investigations on the matter.</blockquote>
When contacted for comment, Masotsha said she was surprised by the allegations levelled against her and said:
<blockquote>Yimihlolo leyi (I am actually surprised by all this). I am also a victim in this. I haven’t been told about the suspension officially but had seen news on the suspension on twitter. There is nothing I can do but my heart is free, I am clean and not involved in any of this. Masotsha said the investigations would clear her name. If the investigations are not polluted and are proper, they will show I am also a victim</blockquote>
Sources that spoke to the publication on condition of anonymity said party members want Masotsha fired from the party:
<blockquote>Party members want her to be removed as the party’s integrity is under stake. We have written to the National Council asking them to expel her immediately from the party. We cannot continue working with someone who was alleged to have involved in abduction and torture</blockquote>
MDC Alliance released a statement that said they are investigating the matter.

MDC Alliance Bulawayo Province Suspends Provincial Women’s Assembly Chairperson Over Muchehiwa's Abduction

Tawanda Muchehiwa, the nephew of ZimLive editor, Mduduzi Mathuthu has opened up on his kidnapping saying his kidnappers said he would die if he talked on the matter.
He told ZimLive that his kidnappers who are suspected state agents put an AK-47 rifle to his head and told him to say his last prayers.
Muchehiwa added that when they finally dumped him after a judge ordered his release, they said he would die if he said a word.
He was abducted on 31 July, tortured for three days and was dumped on 1 August 2020 around 2200hrs at his place of residence by suspected state security agents.
Some believe that the state is coming after Mathuthu’s relatives because he has been part of the anti-corruption crusade that exposed grand corruption within President Mnangagwa’s circle.
Mathuthu went into hiding after other anti-corruption crusaders – journalist Hopewell Chin’ono and Jacob Ngarivhume of opposition Transform Zimbabwe were imprisoned recently for encouraging the citizenry to participate in the anti-corruption protests of 31 July.
Asked by SABC why relatives of individuals wanted by police are being arrested and or harassed, Nick Mangwana, secretary for Information said they were being arrested for not disclosing the whereabouts of their relatives which constitutes obstruction of justice.

Mathuthu's Nephew Says His Kidnappers Said He Would "Die If He Said A Word"

ZimLive editor, Mduduzi Mathuthu has said CID Law and Order detectives went to his house this Sunday saying they wanted to pick his two nephews for investigations about the alleged abduction of his other nephew Tawanda Muchehiwa.
Muchehiwa was reportedly abducted by suspected state security agents who wanted to know Mathuthu’s whereabouts. He was missing for three days, was later found dumped and was arrested.
Nick Mangwana, secretary for Information told SABC News that family members of wanted people who do not disclose the whereabouts of their relatives are arrested for obstructing justice.
Posting on Twitter, Mathuthu said:
<blockquote>CID Law and Order detectives today drove up to our house. They said they are there to pick up my 2 nephews to give a statement on Tawanda Muchehiwa’s abduction. Either there’s a serious investigation going on into the incident, or they just want to check how much nephews remember.</blockquote>

CID Law And Order Detectives Went To Journalist's House To Pick 2 More Nephews

Tawanda Muchehiwa nephew to ZimLive editor Mduduzi Mathuthu on 4 August 2020 appeared before the magistrates court in Bulawayo this Tuesday in compliance with the directive by a High Court judge.
Following a habeas corpus application by MISA Zimbabwe through lawyer Nqobani Sithole, High Court judge Justice Makonese, on 1 August 2020, ordered the police to investigate Muchehiwa’s whereabouts and produce the outcome to the Magistrates Court at Tredgold Building in Bulawayo within 72 hours.
Muchehiwa had been missing since 30 July 2020 following his arrest by the police, with his then known location being that of having been in their custody at Bulawayo Central Police Station.
He was later found on 1 August 2020 around 2200hr after he was ‘dropped off’ at his place of residence by suspected state security agents.
According to lawyer Sithole, Muchehiwa arrived at the Magistrates Court in the company of his doctor due to his bad health condition which resulted from the torture he was reportedly subjected to during the time that he was missing.
Muchehiwa is still admitted at a private hospital in Bulawayo where he is receiving medical attention and the police are still investigating the matter.

Tawanda Muchehiwa Nephew To ZimLive Editor Appears Before Magistrates Court

Tawanda Muchehiwa, the nephew of ZimLive editor Mduduzi Mathuthu is reportedly in bad shape after he allegedly was abducted and tortured for three days by suspected state security agents.
Muchehiwa was kidnapped on the 30th of July a development that came after police had raided the home of Mduduzi Mathuthu and seized the journalist’s sister.
Mathuthu is said to have gone into hiding after police officers produced a search warrant bearing a wrong address.
We present below Muchehiwa’s medical diagnosis.
<blockquote>To whom it may concern
Tawanda Muchehiwa 22 years old male patient presented with a history of painful back, abdomen post-assault by a wooden Iog. Also history of being sprayed an unknown substance all over the body.
On examination of note, the patient had extensive bruising of both buttocks, marked more on the right side with deep induration signifying huge subcutaneous tissue damage.  A laboratory test (urea and electrolytes) has shown functional loss of the kidneys secondary to tissue breakdown products from the trauma. An USS has also confirmed left kidney laceration which is structural damage to the kidney.
Currently, the patient is on fluid challenge to flush toxins out of his body, plus analgesia and antibiotics. He is still to undergo haemodialysis and more advanced tests to see the extent of the kidney damage.
Medical diagnosis:
<ol>
<li>Acute kidney injury secondary to rhabdomyolysis + myoglobinuria</li>
<li>Left kidney injury grade 1</li>
<li>Post-traurnutic stress disorder.</li>
<li>The patient cannot he removed from the medical institution.</li>

ZimLive Editor's Nephew In Terrible Shape After Being Abducted And Tortured For 3 Days

Mduduzi Mathuthu’s nephew who was abducted and tortured by state security agents on 30 July suffered an acute renal failure because of the torture he was subjected to at the hands of his abductors, ZimLive reports.
Tawanda Muchehiwa’s condition was revealed by his lawyer Ngobani Sithole who said the doctors were alarmed by the kidney injured inflicted on the 22-year-old. Said Sithole:
<blockquote>I’m deeply concerned about the injuries suffered by my client, leading to acute renal failure. I understand his captors repeatedly stamped on him as he lay face down. He also has severe tissue damage around the buttocks and under his feet.</blockquote>
Tawanda is admitted at a private hospital in Bulawayo and he narrated to the publication how his abductors tortured him and forced him to drink his urine before they dumped him after the High Court ordered ZRP to produce him on Saturday.

ZimLive Editor's Nephew Suffered An Acute Renal Failure As A Result Of The Torture - Report

<blockquote>Police officers on 30 July 2020 raided and ransacked the home of ZimLive editor Mduduzi Mathuthu in Zimbabwe’s second city of Bulawayo reportedly looking for information on subversive materials linked to the 31 July 2020 protests.
According to a warrant of search and seizure, the police said they were looking for mobile phones, cameras, computers and any subversive materials that were likely to be used in tomorrow’s planned demonstrations, which the law enforcement agents have said are illegal.
The police said they believed Mathuthu was organising and advocating for the demonstrations adding that he was using his mobile phone to encourage people to demonstrate.
Mathuthu was not at his home when the police arrived. The police have since picked up his young sister Nomagugu and detained her at the Bulawayo Central Police station.
MISA Zimbabwe has since deployed lawyer Nqobani Sithole to assist both Mduduzi and his sister.
The raid on Mathuthu’s home follows a similar one at the Harare home of journalist Hopewell Chin’ono, who was arrested on 20 June 2020.
Chin’ono is in custody after he was denied bail on charges of inciting public violence in terms of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.</blockquote>

Police in Bulawayo on Thursday visited the home of ZimLive editor Mududuzi Mathuthu armed with a warrant of search and seizure.
Mathuthu is being accused of keeping and manufacturing subversive materials and inducing Zimbabweans to engage in public violence on 31 July.
The police officers <a href="https://twitter.com/ProfJNMoyo/status/1288893586638086144" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">reportedly</a> arrested three of Mduduzi’s nephews: Amandlenkosi Mathuthu, Advent Mathuthu and Tawanda Muchehiwa.
They then took away Mathuthu’s sister as a hostage after they failed to locate him. Below is the warrant of search and seizure produced by police at Mathuthu’s home.
<blockquote>WARRANT OF SEARCH AND SEIZURE
Issued in terms of Section 50(1)(a) of the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act (chapter 9:07)
TO: The Peace Officer and other officers of the law proper to the execution of warrants.
Whereas it appears to me,……. 
…..(Magistrate), from information received on oath, that there are reasonable grounds for believing that there is in the possession or under the control of MDUDUZI MATHUTHU, at her place of residence or business, cellular phones, computers, cameras, offensive or Subversive material or any material likely to be used during the illegal demonstration and any material used to manufacture any material likely to be used during the demonstration which on reasonable grounds is believed to be concerned in the commission or suspected commission of an offence and are on reasonable grounds believed may afford evidence of the commission or suspected commission of an offence of incitement to participate in public violence as defined in section 187(1)(a)(b) as read with section 36(1)(a)(b) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23.
It is suspected that MDUDUZI MATHUTHU of house number [……] Mahatshula North, Bulawayo, (or wherever she might be currently residing) is organizing and advocating for illegal demonstrations against the Government of Zimbabwe pencilled for the 31st of July 2020.
He is believed to be communicating with Zimbabweans through his cellular phone(s) and other various means, intending by the communication to persuade or induce Zimbabweans to engage in public violence. Furthermore, he is believed to be manufacturing, storing and distributing to members of the public, some materials for use during the illegal demonstrations on or about 31 July 2020.
To that end, you are authorized to search the person identified in this warrant, his residential and business premises and any person found in or upon those premises, and to seize her cellphone(s) and sim cards(s), computers, cameras, offensive and subversive material or any material likely to be used during the illegal demonstration and any material used to manufacture any such material.
This warrant shall be executed by day only.</blockquote>

Prominent Investigative Journalist's Relatives Taken Hostage By Police

Police on Thursday stormed the home of Mduduzi Mathuthu, the editor of online publication ZimLive for yet unknown reasons. Mathuthu <a href="https://twitter.com/Mathuthu/status/1288852519532269574" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">tweeted</a> at exactly 17:02 hrs; “Police at my house”.
ZimLive has revealed that Mathuthu has since gone into hiding after police officers produced a search warrant bearing a wrong address.
Police accuse Mathuthu of keeping and manufacturing subversive materials and inducing Zimbabweans to engage in public violence on 31 July 2020.
Mathuthu <a href="https://twitter.com/Mathuthu/status/1288892143046668288" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">later</a> revealed that police raided his house, found him absent and ordered his sister to reveal his whereabouts. They then took her even though she is not a journalistic or political activist.
Mathuthu is a prominent investigative journalist and has been at the forefront in exposing high-level corruption.
He recently gained international acclaim after he exposed corruption amounting to US$60 million in the Ministry of Health and Child Care (the Draxgate Scandal).
Meanwhile, another investigative journalist, Hopewell Chin’ono, who kept the Draxgate Scandal alive until the then Health Minister Obediah Moyo was sacked, is languishing in jail following his arrest last week on allegations of inciting public violence.

Zimbabwe journalist Mduduzi Mathuthu has been selected among other journalists from Africa for a reporting tour of the United States of America and South Korea.
This was revealed by the US Embassy in Zimbabwe in a post on Twitter;
