Today, the E-nurse Online Application portal opened. It will be open until 7 August 2022.

<h2>What are the requirements to apply for nurse training in Zimbabwe?</h2>
<ul>
<li>A minimum of 5 “0” Level subjects with passes in English Language, Mathematics, and a Science subject and two others (that exclude practical subjects such as Fashion and Fabrics, Metal Work, Graphic Art, Art and Woodwork) at Grade C or better obtained from not more than two sittings with full certificates as Examination Result Slips are not accepted.</li>
<li>Must be aged between the ages of seventeen (17) and thirty (30) years on the date of commencement of training which is 05/09/2022. (that is Candidates should not be less than 17 years and not more than 30 years by 5 September 2022.)</li>
</ul>
 
<h2>What is the cost of application to train as a nurse?</h2>
The cost of accessing the Electronic Application Form is $500 ZWL and applicants should follow the instructions on the website for payment .
No additional payments are required as this is the only fee to be paid.
Since the application is made online, there are no forms that need to be bought. If anyone says they are selling forms, it means they are trying to steal from you.
 
<h2>What happens after applying?</h2>
Once the ministry has shortlisted candidates for interviews, they wuill be informed via the same MoHCC Electronic Platform.
If you don’t meet the requirements mentioned above, chances are you will be shortlisted.
Successful candidates will be informed via the MoHCC Electronic Platform and are required to have a satisfactory Medical Examination conducted by a Government Medical Officer.
Those that are eventually accepted after interviews will be deployed to where training posts exist throughout the country.

How To Apply For Nurses Training On E-Nurse Online Application Portal (2022)

The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Electoral_Commission">Zimbabwe Electoral Commission</a> (ZEC) has said the suspension of by-elections in the country was informed by COVID-19 regulations that were issued by the Ministry of Health and Child Care. We present ZEC’s statement in full below.
<blockquote>Clarification on Further Suspension of By-Elections
The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) would like to state that it is guided by the country’s legal framework in fulfilling its statutory obligations. The legal framework governing the conduct of elections in Zimbabwe comprises the Constitution, the Electoral Act, the Referendums Act and all subsidiary legislation with a bearing on elections issued by authorities that be. It is also pertinent to note that while the Constitution enshrines the fundamental rights and freedoms for citizens which include the right to elect leaders of their own choice, there are also limits imposed to such rights. Section 86 of the Constitution limits freedoms in the interest of public safety, public health and the general interest of the public. Where such rights are limited through a statutory instrument and which instrument has not been set aside by a court of law, the Commission has no right to disregard lawful obligations.
ZEC suspended all electoral activities during the greater part of last year and at the beginning of this year in compliance with lockdown measures promulgated by the Ministry of Health and Child Care in Statutory Instruments in an effort to curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. On 01 March 2021, the Ministry of Health and Child Care relaxed these measures and subsequently, the Commission also announced the resumption of some electoral activities such as voter registration and transfers while by-elections remain suspended since some lockdown measures of Statutory Instrument 10 of 2021 are still in force.
The Commission stands guided by the Ministry of Health and Child Care which has the expertise in the control of the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. In the execution of its mandate, the Commission issues out press statements to notify its activities to stakeholders but not as a clandestine means of operating outside the legal framework. Any insinuation to the latter is tantamount to misleading the public on the purpose of these press statements and the integrity of the Commission.

Zimbabwe Coronavirus/COVID-19 Update – 08 Feb 2021

The government’s decision to <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/09/24/govt-suspends-some-of-uz-medical-courses/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">suspend the University of Zimbabwe’s Masters of Medicine and Masters of Obstetrics and Gynecology programmes</a> has been criticised by some doctors and political activists.
The rationale behind the move which comes when the country has inadequate health caregivers is however not known.

Suspension Of UZ Medical Courses Criticised

The government has with immediate effect suspended the University of Zimbabwe’s Masters of Medicine and Masters of Obstetrics and Gynecology programmes and banned enrolled students from accessing public hospitals.
In a letter dated 23 September 2020, addressed to the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Science, Dr Mutongoreni suggests the decision had been handed down from the Ministry of Health and Child Care. Reads the letter:
<blockquote>SUBJECT: RE: SUSPENSION OF THE MASTER OF MEDICINE AND MASTER OF OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGY CLASSES 
Reference is made to the above subject. Following communication from the Ministry of Health and Child Care to the effect that Registrars’ enrolled for the University of Zimbabwe’s Masters of Medicine and Masters of Obstetrics and Gynecology programmes are no longer allowed to access public hospitals, the University has suspended dasses for the programmes with immediate effect.

Govt Suspends Some Of UZ Medical Courses

Doctors have expressed concern over the government’s introduction of a burdensome process which health practitioners need to follow to attain recommendations.
Those who would have found jobs overseas are now required by the Ministry of Health and Child Care to pay US$200 upfront for the application of a “Certificate of Good Standing” which must be signed by two people and approved by a third.
An anonymous doctor who is in the process of leaving the country for the United Kingdom told ZimLive that he knew over a dozen friends who are also ready to leave.
<blockquote>The government has resorted to blocking health workers from leaving the country by imposing stringent conditions.
Many healthcare workers, including nurses, are waiting for lockdown regulations to be eased so they can leave for greener pastures. They’ve already written the required exams. An exodus is coming</blockquote>
Previously, the doctors were only required to obtain the Certificate of Good Standing which had to be signed by a senior doctor with five years experience and a senior member of the profession, provincial medical director or medical superintendent they last practised with in the previous six months.
Early this year, the clearance letter issued by the Medical and Dental Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe cost Z$1,500.
Zimbabwean doctors have since 2019 embarked on two prolonged protests over paltry salaries which have been as low as Z$9,450 (US$115) per month when their counterparts in South Africa earn an average of US$4000.

Doctors Say Govt Is Blocking Them From Going Abroad

Twitter has temporarily restricted the Ministry Of Health and Child Care Ministry’s twitter handle.  Twitter usually restricts, suspends or ban users if they violate any of the app’s rules. The Health Ministry early this year lost another account after Twitter permanently suspended the ministry’s account.
The temporary restrictions mean the Health Ministry cannot post updates like the COVID-19 update till the restriction is lifted neither can they comment, like nor retweet anything.
The information ministry also lost their account after Twitter permanently suspended it due to violations, while recently the Information Ministry Permanent Ministry Nick Mangwana’s account was also temporarily restricted.

Twitter Temporarily Restricts Ministry Of Health's Twitter Account

The government has invited all candidates that were shortlisted for nursing to report to the nearest nursing school  for interviews between 7 -11 September 2020,
The invitation was posted by the Ministry Of Health and Child Care on Twitter in a post that reads:

Govt Invites All Shortlisted Nursing Candidates To Report To The Nearest Nurse Training School For Interviews

The Ministry of Health and Child on Saturday 15 August 2020 recorded 104 new local coronavirus cases bringing the total number of known cases to 5176.
The Ministry also stated that the country recorded 2 new deaths bringing the total number of fatalities to 130.
The statement also indicated that 2047 people had recovered.
Harare has recorded many cases 1974 followed by Bulawayo which has 1191 cases.

Zimbabwe Records 104 New Coronavirus Cases, 2 Deaths

Médecins Sans Frontières Zimbabwe (Doctors Without Borders) have said the situation in the Zimbabwean health system is now very dire due to a number of issues including neglection of the sector.
Reinaldo Ortuno, head of mission at Médecins Sans Frontières Zimbabwe says neglection of the sector resulted in the skilled and qualified workforce going abroad for greener pastures. Resultantly, Ortuno says:
<blockquote>Hospitals and clinics are now manned by student nurses, junior doctors, and other staff who have no choice as they are still under training. This has compromised quality of care and has inadvertently contributed to high morbidity and mortality rates</blockquote>
Tawanda Chivese, a Zimbabwean clinical epidemiologist at Stellenbosch University Medical School (Stellenbosch, South Africa) says the collapse of the healthcare system did not start recently with the new government but has been an ongoing issue with past administrations.
He attributes the rot to underfunding of the healthcare system and to a lack of leadership.
As a result of a number of issues in public health institutions including poor salaries and working environment, insufficiency of medical equipment and medicines, health care workers have been leaving their jobs while some have embarked on a crippling industrial action.

"Hospitals, Clinics Now Manned By Student Nurses, Junior Doctors," - Doctors Without Borders

Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Health and Child Care reported on Friday 14 August 2020 that the country had recorded 82 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours.
The development brings the total number of officially known cases to 5072 including 128 deaths and 1998 recoveries.
In a statement, the ministry stated that Bulawayo has the highest number of known cases (1170) followed by Harare with 1947 cases.

Zimbabwe Records 82 New Coronavirus Cases, All Local - 14 August 2020

Zimbabwe recorded 124 coronavirus cases on the 8th of August bringing the total of known cases to 4575 since March when the virus was first recorded in the Southern African country.
Of these new cases, 118 are local cases while 6 are returnees from South Africa.
The Ministry of Health and Child Care reported in a statement that the total number of recoveries is now at 3057 after 71 recoveries were recorded on Saturday.
Meanwhile, fatalities remain at 102.

FULL TEXT: Ministry Of Health Update On e-Nurse Recruitment Of Sep 2020 Intake

Zimbabwe’s coronavirus cases have risen to 4421 after 146 local cases were recorded on Tuesday.
The new cases include one death, a 22-year-old male from Bulawayo Province. The new fatality brings the total number of known deaths in the country to 81.
Recoveries increased by 181 bringing the total to 1238.
In a statement, the Ministry of Health and Child Care indicated that Bulawayo Province recorded more cases (69) this Tuesday compared to other provinces.

Zimbabwe Records Another COVID-19 Death, 146 Local Cases

The government of Zimbabwe has responded to a notice by senior doctors that they were withdrawing services over a number of issues including the inadequacy of personal protective equipment.

RE: NOTICE TO WITHDRAW FROM OFFERING SERVICES 
Reference is made to your letter dated 14 July 2020 addressed to the Acting Honourable Minister with regards to the above and a meeting held on the 27th of July 2020 to discuss the issues raised in your letter.
Below is the detailed response of the issues which you raised: 1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); It is noted that the demand for PPE is continuing to rise in sync with the rising number of Covid-19 cases. The procurement and distribution of PPE is a continuous process and not an event as the consumption rate is very high. PPE is the biggest cost driver in the prevention and containment of COVID-19. While efforts are in progress to expand local production of some of the items which will reduce pressure on resources required to import other products that are not produced locally, the Ministry is currently working with NatPharm to procure additional PPE and expeditiously distribute it to all stations. The latest PPE stock status shows that we have just over a month’s supply of PPE at the current usage rate.
As at 28 July 2020, a total of 253 health workers including student nurses had tested positive for COVID-19. The Pharmacy Directorate is finalizing the quantification of PPE requirements for submission to the Resource Mobilization Committee of the Ad-hoc Inter-Ministerial Task Force on COVID-19.

2. COVID-19 Testing of hospital inpatients Testing continues to be a challenge. Health Workers are struggling to provide services to clients without COVID-19 tests being carried out in the face of inadequate PPE. There has been an increase in poor outcomes in all departments as clients go unattended as a result of limited testing capacity. The Ministry has since written to all public and private institutions directing them to set up patients under investigation units (PUI Units) to facilitate timely attendance to patients seeking care.
Whilst COVID-19 testing has been decentralized, challenges continue to be faced on availability of some consumables such as Gene X-pert cartridges which are scarce on the international market. Donations of PCR testing kits were also received but our testing capacity is limited by the shortage of viral transport media VTM and swabs among other items which include boosting human resources. In that reign the Ministry is planning to recruit laboratory trained staff.
3. Medicines, medical sundries and medical equipment The availability of drugs, medical products and equipment is a direct function of the availability of forex, as over 90% of medicines are imported. Collectively we have not demonstrated capacity to produce our own drugs and equipment locally the high import bill for medicines and medical products. Covid-19 derailed the procurement processes that were in progress as resources had to be diverted to the pandemic. The new Ministry realigned staff is hitting the ground running to:
a. Establish requirements and priorities;
b. Establish the available resources both in local and forex; and
c. Initiate the procurement processes and follow up on existing commitments.
4. Payment of salaries in USD The Health Service Board with the guidance of the Acting Hon Minister have made submissions to Treasury to review Health Worker Packages. However, the Government is not in a position to pay salaries in USD. Full US dollarization of the economy is a tried, tested and failed concept. By February 2018 the country was dry of the US Dollar with citizens sleeping at the banks to withdraw their deposits to no avail. Foreigners also descended on Zimbabwe in search of the easily accessible US Dollars in addition to locals also externalizing their US Dollar reserves. There is absolutely nothing to stop that from happening again. Doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result is Albert Einstein’s definition of insanity. We have to be innovative and explore other ways of resolving these challenges.
a. The US Dollars is American currency printed by the Federal Reserve and is not printed for free for other countries; b. Other countries can only access the USD through international trade of goods and services;
c. The USD reserves generated by the Zimbabwean economy are not adequate to sustain import obligations such as fuel, food because of droughts and natural disasters, electrical power following droughts resulting in reduced generation, medicines and medical products aggravated by Covid-19, industrial and agricultural machinery just to mention a few. Diverting the limited USD forex to paying salaries is suicidal for the economy and social services provision.
d. Printing the ZWL$ without consideration to the economic fundamentals is inflationary and Zimbabweans are experiencing the horrors of a second wave of hyperinflation.
A measured approach in improving salaries and buying power of the currency is recommended as evidenced by some of the efforts which include the under listed: i) The Government reviewed salaries by 5o% and paid a USD 75 denominated civil services Nostro card to Health Workers. ii) A request for an upward review of the COVID-19 Risk Allowances was submitted to Treasury. (The Health Workers had requested for 400, 500 and 600 USD equivalent.) iii) Use of arbitration to address sticky salary issues. 
5. Payment of Clinical Allowances The payment of allowances to University of Zimbabwe Consultants was approved in principle. To this end, the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals has been processing payments pegged at an agreed RTGS3,50o per consultant per month. Payments for March 2020 were made on the 3. of April 2020, whilst payments for April 2020 were made on the 3rd of June 2020 with payments for May and June having been processed on the 17th of July 2020. 
Whilst noting the payments, concern was raised on having Parirenyatwa meet the bill noting that the revenues inflows have declined since the onset of COVID-19.
6. Other emerging issues
a. Donor funded allowances from the Health Development Fund The HDF has set aside a budget of USD2 million to cover all Health Workers. Guided by presence at work this might cover only up to two months. The Ministry has however opted for this amount to be used for procurement of PPE. 
b. Dual employment for University of Zimbabwe Consultants Concern raised by UZ-CHS over inconsistencies on the dual employment is noted. This issue has since been brought to the attention of the Honorable Minister and will be addressed as part of the ongoing restructuring of the public health sector. 
It is hoped that the above responses answer the questions raised in your correspondence and we pray that you will reconsider your intention of withdrawing services with effect from after duty on the 29th of July 2020.

Govt Responds To Senior Doctors' Notice Of Withdrawal Of Services

Zimbabwe on Sunday recorded 78 coronavirus cases bringing the total number of known infections to 2512 since the outbreak of the virus in the country in March.
The Ministry of Health made the announcement in a statement which observed that of all the new infections, 74 are local cases while the rest are returnees from South Africa.
The number of fatalities remains at 34 while recoveries are at 518.

Zimbabwe's Coronavirus Cases Breach The 2.5K Mark

Zimbabwe has recorded 107 new cases bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 1820 including 26 deaths and 488 recoveries.
The Ministry of Health and Child Care announced in a statement that the majority (84) of the new cases are local while 17 and 6, in that order, are returnees from South Africa and Botswana.

Local Cases Continue To Rise As Zimbabwe Records 107 New Coronavirus Cases

Zimbabwe has recorded 102 new coronavirus cases – 81 local and 21 imported, including 1 death at a community level in Matebeleland North province.
The development brings the total number of confirmed cases to 1713 confirmed cases, including 472 recoveries and twenty-six (26) deaths.

Zimbabwe Records Over 100 New Coronavirus Cases, 1 Death

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has said that it is working with relevant stakeholders to enhance security at quarantine centres in the country as 13 more people are reported to have escaped since Thursday.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the development on Friday adding that some of the escapees later surrendered themselves to authorities. He added:
<blockquote>We are concerned with people who are escaping from quarantine centres but we are investigating these cases. This morning five people escaped from Mushagashe Training Centre in Masvingo while eight escaped from Esikhoveni Training Centre in Matabeleland South last night. The previous day four people escaped from the same institution.
This brings the number of people who have so far escaped from quarantine centres to 222 and we have made 29 arrests. The police and other stakeholders have been working together to ensure security is improved in these quarantine centres such as fencing, walls and proper lighting. This is an issue of paramount importance as it is putting the members of the public at risk.</blockquote>
There are reports suggesting that some escape because of poor living standards and potential exposure to the virus in the centres.

Authorities Working To "Ensure Improved Security At Quarantine Centres" As 13 More Escape

The government has urged members of the pubic to adhere to recommendations by health experts to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
The warning against complacency comes when the number of coronavirus cases in the country have risen to 625 after eight more people tested positive on Friday.
The warning was issued by the acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Child care, Dr Gibson Mhlanga who said:
<blockquote>We want to emphasise to the people of Zimbabwe that this virus is real and people should strictly adhere to the set preventative measures, let’s wear our masks let’s practice social distancing and safe hygiene use of hand sanitisers, avoid handshakes and we also have people who are jumping the borders let’s report them.</blockquote>
On Friday, ZBC journalist, Rueben Barwe toured Mbare, a suburb in Harare and observed that people were not maintaining social distancing while some were putting masks around their heads, not covering mouths and noses as per the World Health Organisation (WHO) recommendation.
Since the relaxation of lockdown regulations a few weeks ago, some members of the public have become complacent with reports suggesting that even the banned commuter omnibuses are now ferrying people into town and back.

Govt Speaks Against Complacency As Coronavirus Cases Soar

The Zimbabwe Coalition on Debt and Development (ZIMCODD) has told the government to reverse the eviction of nurses resident at public health institutions including Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.
The coalition speaks amid reports that Parirenyatwa was evicting nurses who participated in the ongoing industrial action that is meant to compel the government to pay their salaries in United States dollars at the level they were in 2018 when the local currency was at par with the US dollar.
The coalition said since over US$300 million was mobilised towards the coronavirus response, the government should change some resources towards improving the welfare and working conditions of health workers.
<blockquote>Worker’s Rights remain key to development and the vision for a fair and equitable society. The action by Parirenyatwa to pressurise nurses resident on campus to stop industrial action is deplorable and should be reversed immediately!</blockquote>
Health caregivers are also grumbling over poor working conditions while some resigned en masse and joined the private sector citing potential exposure to the coronavirus.
This comes amid reports of abuse of the COVID-19 response fund by senior government officials including the Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr Obadiah Moyo.

"Reverse Nurse Eviction Immediately," - Govt Told

Returnees mostly from South Africa and Botswana went on a hunger strike on Sunday in an endeavour to try and compel authorities to release them after they had spent over 21 days without being tested.
They have been detained at Bulawayo Covid-19 quarantine centres – the United College of Education (UCE), since their arrival in the country.
The returnees reportedly boycotted food before blocking vehicles from leaving or coming into the premises. Speaking to the Daily News, one of the returnees said:
<blockquote>We were more than 300 and were being mixed with those who came after us. We only got tested after protesting when we had stayed for 21 days, which under normal circumstances would be the time for our release. They told us there were no test kits.
After being tested they said four people were positive, so they added eight more days. We then got tested again, but instead of them giving results they said there is a case again that’s when all hell broke loose.</blockquote>
This comes when nearly 200 returnees have so far escaped from quarantine centres where there are reports of hunger and poor living conditions.
Moreover, some argue that some returnees are likely contracting the virus in the quarantine centres where they mix and mingle for too long.

Returnees Stage Demo Over Prolonged Stay At Quarantine Centres

The Ministry of Health and Child Care has lifted the ban on outdoor exercises during the coronavirus-induced lockdown.
The development was announced in a new statutory instrument (SI) gazetted on Sunday which provides for a limited relaxation of the lockdown conditions specified in Statutory Instrument 94 of 2020. Reads the SI in part:
<blockquote>The new order has a provision for outdoor exercise which means walking or jogging along a public thoroughfare, in public parks or other open public spaces where persons may walk or jog for exercise, or at a sporting or recreational establishment. This does not include gymnastic clubs.
Cycling, or walking or jogging along a public thoroughfare accompanied by one’s dog or dogs, in public parks or other open public spaces where persons may cycle, or walk or jog for exercise accompanied by one’s dog or dogs will also be allowed.</blockquote>
The Ministry stated that venues at which low-risk sports take place shall be open between 8 AM and 4.30 PM unless there is an authorisation from enforcing officers adding that spectators should not be in excess of fifty persons at the venues.
The Ministry also announced that with effect from Monday, athletes competing in low-risk sports and their associated sports staff shall be regarded as belonging to Part IIIB class which applies to businesses in the formal commercial and industrial sector that are not essential services.

Ministry Of Health Announces Dates, Venues For May 2020 Nurse Training Intake Interviews

The Ministry of Health and Child Care has released a daily coronavirus update.
We present the Ministry’s statement in full below.
<blockquote>The Ministry would like to report that following an unusual clustering of the six cases that were reported as positive from Harare yesterday, these results were therefore considered interim and hence additional tests have been conducted as part of the Laboratory Quality Management System to validate these results in line with the Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures and protocols as well as international best practices. The Ministry will update the nation of the results of this Quality Assurance involving the entire testing process preanalytical, analytical (testing) and post-analytical processes.
In the meantime, today, a total of 672 tests were done as shown in table 1 below giving a total of 8318 screening and diagnostic tests done to date. All the PCR tests done in Bulawayo today were negative for COVID-19. Results for the tests done in Harare today were still pending at the time of print.
