Police in Harare are seeking information to help identify members of a mob involved in the fatal assault of an intruder in Budiriro suburb on Friday morning.
In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the victim, identified only as Honest, was caught by the mob after breaking into a house and “grabbing” a 19-year-old woman who was asleep in her bedroom around 3 AM.
The woman screamed for help, alerting neighbours who rushed to the scene and apprehended Honest before he could flee.
The mob then attacked Honest with wooden logs, leaving him severely injured. He later succumbed to his wounds. The police statement reads:

Police in Harare are investigating a case of murder which occurred along Gunguwo Street, Budiriro, Harare on 10/01/25 at around 0300 hours in which a victim only identified as Honest died.
The victim was apprehended by a mob on allegations of unlawful entry into premises where he allegedly grabbed the complainant (19) who was sleeping in her bedroom, at a house in Budiriro 5B, Harare.
The mob assaulted the victim using wooden logs indiscriminately and left him for dead. The victim succumbed to the injuries.
The body of the victim was taken to Sally Mugabe Hospital mortuary for post mortem.

Police are also working to determine the motive behind the unlawful entry, as it appears the woman may have been targeted for sexual assault or robbery.

ZRP Seeks Leads On Fatal Mob Attack On Intruder In Budiriro

Police in Bulawayo have issued a strong warning to the public against taking the law into their own hands, urging citizens to report suspects to the nearest police station instead of resorting to violence.
This advisory comes in the wake of a tragic incident in which a man, suspected of theft, was murdered by a mob in the Lobengula suburb.
The deceased was reportedly involved in a robbery alongside three accomplices, targeting a victim who had his Samsung A23 mobile phone and earphones stolen.
The police have identified two of the murder suspects as Advice Dibula, 36, and Khulekelani Mhlanga, 43, both residents of Lobengula West.
According to the deputy spokesperson for the ZRP in Bulawayo Province, Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, the violent altercation took place on December 21 at around 3 AM, as the three men were returning home from Marisha Night Club in the Old Magwegwe suburb.  Said Msebele:

As the three were walking near a certain house in Lobengula West suburb, they met the now deceased, whose identity is still unknown, in the company of three other male adults who began to assault them using unknown objects for no reason.
One of the now deceased’s team forcibly took one of the three’s Samsung A23 mobile phone and earphones from his trousers pocket.

The now-deceased had assaulted one of the three men, striking him in the face three times with his fists, causing him to fall to the ground. Said Msebele:

One of the men managed to escape from the scene and alerted the residents. Police attended the scene and found the now deceased lying on the ground unconscious bleeding from the mouth with a cut on his head.
An ambulance was summoned which ferried the now deceased to Mpilo Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The body was conveyed to the mortuary for post-mortem and the accused persons were arrested.

Mob Fatally Assaults Cellphone Thief In Bulawayo

Three armed robbers attacked a security guard stationed at a company premises in Vainona, Harare, before breaking into offices and making off with more than US$36,000 in cash on Friday.
According to a statement posted on the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) X page, the suspects, who remain unidentified, were armed with pistols.
Along with the cash, the robbers also stole two laptops and a Bluetooth speaker during the heist. Police said:

Three unidentified male suspects who were armed with unidentified types of pistols, attacked a security guard who was on duty.
The suspects broke into the company offices were they stole US$36 260.00 cash which was in a safe, two laptops and a bluetooth speaker. Anyone with information to report at any nearest Police Station.

In a separate incident, a man identified only as Bla Odza, who is suspected of stealing various clothes loaded in a pushcart, died after being assaulted by a mob on Sunday.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), Bla Odza and his alleged accomplice, Onias Marenga (20), were attacked by the crowd.
Bla Odza suffered multiple bruises across his body and lost consciousness. He was rushed to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Three robbers with guns stole over $36,000 in cash, laptops, and a speaker from a company in Harare after attacking a security guard. The police are investigating the robbery. In another incident, a man accused of stealing clothes was beaten by a crowd and later died in the hospital. His alleged accomplice was also attacked. Three Armed Robbers Steal Over US$36,000 In Harare Heist

A suspected armed robber from Zimbabwe had his feet cut off after being cornered by unknown assailants along the Limpopo River near Beitbridge, where he allegedly operated.
It is believed that those he may have encountered during his criminal activities were responsible for this brutal act.
Graphic images shared on social media in Beitbridge showed the man lying on the ground, unable to move, with his severed feet beside him.
The man, who has not yet been identified but is believed to be from the Renco Mine area in Masvingo, was part of a group that targeted smugglers using informal crossing points to South Africa.
A voice note that accompanied the images explained how he was captured by his attackers, who then cut off his feet. <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200034877/suspected-robbers-feet-chopped-off-in-sa">It says</a>:

A robber from Zimbabwe had his feet cut off by unknown people near the Limpopo River. He was part of a group that targeted smugglers going to South Africa. Pictures showed him lying on the ground with his feet next to him. He was taken to a hospital in Musina for treatment. The attackers captured him and cut off his feet. He is believed to be from the Renco Mine area in Masvingo. Police refused to help him, and he was left by the river.

Zimbabwean Robber’s Feet Cut Off By Unknown Assailants Near Limpopo River

Two brothers from Gokwe who are beneficiaries of a recent Presidential amnesty were brutally attacked by a mob after they had fatally assaulted their father on April 23, 2024.
According to <a href="https://tellzim.com/presidential-pardon-beneficiaries-kill-father-injured-in-mob-attack/">TellZim News</a>, Evans Mupamhanga (25) and Elvis Mupamhanga (21) both of farm 21, Chemagora area Gokwe South District, fatally assaulted their father before they were also brutally attacked by a mob over past disputes.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the mob attack, saying the suspects were in police custody at Gokwe South Hospital.
Inspector Mahoko also said Police have launched a manhunt for the 10-member gang that meted instant justice on the two brothers. He said:

We are appealing for information that may assist in the arrest of the 10-member group which attacked the two brothers and we further appeal to members of the public to respect the sanctity of human life by not engaging in violence as a way of solving disputes.

It is alleged that Evans and Elvis were recently released from Gokwe prison under the Presidential amnesty where they had been imprisoned for possessing an illegal firearm.
On that fateful day, the suspects were at home with their parents, Kennedy Mupamhanga and Monica Mupamhanga. They disagreed about not filling up the water tank (Jojo tank) at their house.
The two brothers reportedly left their parents’ house after the altercation and proceeded to their father’s young brother, Forever Sikochi’s homestead on the same farm.
They demanded to know why he had not filled up the tank and this resulted in a misunderstanding. The suspects then force-marched Sikochi towards Kwekwe-Gokwe road threatening to kill him.
While on their way, the trio met Kennedy following them and suddenly held him and informed that him they wanted to settle the issue of a firearm which he had previously reported to the police against them.
The duo then escorted both Kennedy (their father) and Sikochi (their uncle) back to the latter’s homestead.
It is alleged that at around 7 PM, Evans instructed Elvis to bring an axe so that they could torture their father over the firearm issue.
On hearing this, Sikochi fled the scene leaving behind his brother Kennedy in the hands of his two sons.
The suspects took turns to strike their father using an axe and stones several times on the head until he died.
After killing their father, the two brothers went to Job Mupamhanga’s (76) home to inform him of the murder they had committed.
As they were explaining to Job what they had done to their father, a gang of about 10 unknown people entered the house armed with axes, machetes and knobkerries.
The mob attacked the two brothers over a previous dispute, striking them all over their bodies until they became unconscious after which the assailants vanished to an unknown destination.
Sikochi later on returned in the company of police officers and found his brother already dead. After a few minutes, he received a call from his father, Job informing him of what had transpired at his homestead.
The police proceeded to Job’s homestead where they found both Evans and Elvis badly injured. The two were rushed to Gokwe South District Hospital where they are in police custody and are both in serious condition. The deceased’s body was taken to the same hospital.

A 34-year-old man was allegedly fatally assaulted by a mob after he was caught stealing batteries at a house in the Gazebo Area.
Police said the victim, Shadreck Maresa (34), died in a fowl run in Damafalls Phase 5, Ruwa following the brutal assault. Police said:

In another case, Police in Bindura are investigating a case of murder in which a yet-to-be-identified male adult was found lying dead with a stab wound on the chest near COTTCO Panning Site, Bindura.
The victim was wearing a blue jean trouser, an orange T-shirt, black short, grey cap, pink shoes and a wrist watch. Anyone with information to report at any nearest Police Station.

In September 2023, a 45-year-old man, Hloniphani Ndlovu from Maphisa, Kezi in Matabeleland South Province was murdered by a mob of over 20 individuals for robbery.
It was alleged that Ndlovu, armed with a firearm, robbed a group of people. After the robbery, the victims teamed up and pursued Ndlovu.
Upon catching up with him, they subjected him to a severe assault. Subsequently, the suspects handed him over to local police in Maphisa.
Recognising the severity of his injuries, the authorities referred him to hospital.
Ndlovu succumbed to his injuries shortly after being admitted to the hospital.

Mob Justice: Man (34) Killed For "Stealing" Batteries In Ruwa

A suspected thief who was subjected to mob justice in Mahatshula Suburb, Bulawayo, has died.
According to the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/viral-cpu-thief-dies/">Chronicle</a>, the suspected thief’s confession video went viral after residents apprehended and assaulted him.
His death was confirmed to the publication by ZRP acting spokesperson in Bulawayo Province Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele.
She urged residents to desist from carrying dangerous weapons such as screwdrivers, knives and machetes and axes in public places. Said Msebele:

Circumstances are that on December 12 at around 2 AM, Lucky Ncube was arrested after being found in possession of a CPU in Mahatshula North by residents.
The residents blew a whistle alerting other members of the community who gathered and started assaulting the now-deceased with knobkerries.
He admitted to stealing the CPU at Cowdray Park, Bulawayo. A police report was then made.
On the same date at around 9 AM, Lucky Ncube was referred to Mpilo Hospital for treatment and was admitted.
Information was later received to the effect that Lucky Ncube had passed on.
The concerned members of the public are assisting the police with further investigations.
In as much as we appreciate arrests effected by members of the public, as the police we warn the community not to take the law into their own hands but to engage the police as soon as a citizen arrest has been effected.

Mob Justice: "Viral" CPU Thief Dies In Hospital

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the arrest of nine men from Matobo, Ntunjambili area for beating a suspected habitual thief to death.
ZRP spokesperson in Matabeleland South Province, Inspector Loveness Mangena, on Monday identified the now-deceased as Nkosana Ndlovu (28) who was on the police wanted list. Said Insp Mangena:

Ndlovu was on a wanted list by police over cases that involved unlawful entry, thefts and assaults.
On January 3, 2023, he was assaulted by villagers who had had enough of his shenanigans The matter was reported to Matobo police and he was referred to United Bulawayo Hospital where he died.
Police have arrested nine villagers in connection with the murder case.

Before he succumbed to his injuries, Ndlovu indicated that he was beaten by Clemence Mpofu (31) and eight others, and mentioned the mob.

Nine Matobo Villagers Beat "Habitual Thief" To Death

Police in Midlands Province have appealed to the public for help in identifying the body of a male adult who is approximately 33 years old who was fatally assaulted by a mob on 29 October 2022 at Zhombe Shopping Centre.
The corpse is stuck at Kwekwe General Hospital and his relatives have not yet come forward to claim it.
ZRP spokesperson in Midlands Province, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, said the deceased was found stealing groceries at a shop and he was assaulted several times all over the body with unknown objects and sustained severe injuries. He said:

Police are calling for assistance from the public in identifying the dead body of a male adult who died after being assaulted by unknown assailants.
The incident occurred at Zhombe Shopping Centre, Kwekwe on 29 October 2022 at about 0100 hours.
The story was covered by the media when the incident happened.
No relative came forward to claim the body and his particulars are not known.

The deceased was putting on a pair of blue work-suit trousers with a black belt, a blue jacket with a zip, and a blue t-shirt. Added Insp Mahoko:

Insp Mahoko said the deceased had no particulars on his person, making the identification of the body very difficult.
