Football legend Moses “Bambo” Chunga has dismissed critics who claim he should not have accepted a car gift from controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo, who has ties to ZANU PF.
Chunga, along with prominent musicians like Leonard Karigoka Zhakata and Mai Charamba, has faced accusations of hypocrisy for accepting vehicles from someone with a questionable reputation.
Speaking at Faramatsi Motors, where he was collecting his brand-new Toyota Fortuner from Chivayo, Chunga, recently returned from Belgium, scoffed at the notion that he should feel guilty about accepting the gift. He said:

There were rumours that Bambo was refusing to accept the car and some chatter about ZANU PF. I don’t think supporting ZANU PF is a sin… I appreciate [the gift] and I love my country.

On Friday, Chivayo, whose wealth remains somewhat enigmatic, announced that he would be gifting cars to Moses Chunga and veteran ZBC presenter Charles “CNN” Mabika.
He said that the gesture was made in recognition of their contributions to football and their inspirational influence on millions of fans across Zimbabwe.
The previous Monday, Chivayo had also gifted cars to Mai Charamba, Leonard Karigoka Zhakata, and Mechanic Manyeruke. In a social media post about Chunga, Chivayo said:

Chunga Cheers On Warriors From Aalst, Belgium

Zimbabwean football legend Moses Chunga has weighed in on the recent controversy surrounding the Zimbabwe Football Association’s (ZIFA) new eligibility requirements for its chairperson.
One of the new rules is that candidates must have at least five Ordinary Level (O-Level) passes. Chunga, however, argued that footballers who fail to meet this academic benchmark should not be labelled as “madofo”—a derogatory Shona term meaning “dull” or “slow to understand.”
Rosemary Mugadza, the ZIFA Normalisation Committee (NC) member is quoted saying:

I was given a chance by my parents to go to school and they made sure that I have the five O Levels.
I’m a CAF instructor, where a certain level of education is required for you to participate in terms of imparting knowledge to the other fellow females.
It’s the right time for us former footballers to enrol into night schools to get the required academics that we ought to have.
Also, if you look at the current situation that we have, the current crop of players, there are scholarships that are offered for them.

ZIFA Normalisation Committee chairperson Lincoln Mutasa said:

5 O levels are for seeing someone’s ability to be able to read and write, understand numbers and communicate with our principles whether at CAF or FIFA.
That’s basically the reason for that 5 O-level qualification requirement. It’s not a major hurdle, it’s a basic stepping stone only to distinguish those who can’t read and write.

However, Chunga said some footballers and former footballers lack five O’Level passes not because they are “dull” or unintelligent, but because, during their teenage years, they faced the difficult choice between dedicating themselves to football or pursuing formal education.
He pointed out that many young players prioritised their athletic careers, often sacrificing their schooling in pursuit of professional football. Those who follow my posts know that I started playing football for Lytton Primary School B team when I was only around 8 years old.
From that age onwards football was all that mattered to me. I would spend most of my time training, and nurturing my talent.
A footballer trains their muscle between ages 6 and 18. Qualities like speed of thought, accuracy, endurance, resistance, strength and skill have to be mastered between 6 and 18. Fact.
By the time one is 18, they would have reached the end of growth. (Fact). So if one is to excel in football he has to spend most of his teenage years on the field of training.
Unfortunately, this is also the time when this same guy is needed in the classroom. In the end, he/she has to make a difficult decision, that of choosing football ahead of formal education.
Those who mix football with formal education and excel in both are the rare ones. In conclusion, let’s not be too quick to judge these footballers.
They spent hours and hours practising so that you may be entertained. Please let’s not humiliate them.

Football legend Moses “Bambo” Chunga has been included in a strategic planning committee that has been appointed by the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) board.
The strategic planning committee was appointed by the ZIFA executive committee led by acting president Gift Banda during a meeting in Harare.
The 12-member strategic planning committee has the following members:

Acting ZIFA chief executive officer Xolisani Gwesela explained the rationale behind the appointment of the strategic planning committee. He said:

The executive committee resolved that while it is desirable to engage FIFA and have the suspension lifted, local reforms are key to resuscitating and growing the beautiful game of football.
The executive committee noted with great concern that ZIFA has for a long time been operating without strategic direction and resolved to appoint a strategic planning committee to come up with a long-term strategic plan which will guide the association’s activities and operations, and consequently aid in growing football while producing competitive national teams.

ZIFA also reconstituted the referees’ committee. Ruzive Ruzive was appointed deputy chairperson to board member Barbra Chikosi, Sabelo Maphosa was appointed as the secretary, while Makonese Masakadza and Wilfred Mukuna are committee members.

Warriors and Dynamos legend Moses “Bambo” Chunga believes it was not necessary to fire former coach Zdravko “Loga” Logarusic as the challenges bedevilling the senior men’s national team reflect those in charge at the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA).
The Croatian was shown the exit door on Sunday after ZIFA bowed down to pressure from local football fans and pundits to fire him following a string of poor results.
But Chunga said the national team problems go beyond the Croatian or any other individual who will be named as head coach. Said Bambo:

I think this is something that is very clear. We have lived with these problems for a long time.
It is unfortunate that when some of us speak we are labelled rebels and called all sorts of names. We are vilified for our love and knowledge of the game.
The problem with our national team goes beyond the Croatian. I even do not see the reason we had to fire him when we all know that we have individuals occupying offices they barely deserve.
I am talking about the very offices that are entrusted with the duty of making these technical appointments.
The academic qualifications that we are so worried and concerned about are not the be-all and end-all of football technical administration.
We all know the right people who have knowledge and understanding of our football who should be doing the technical staff for ZIFA, but somehow we find joy in sidelining them.

Logarusic presided over probably the worst run by the Warriors, winning just one in 14 attempts, managing five draws and eight defeats since his appointment in January last year.
Although he helped Zimbabwe qualify for the rescheduled AFCON finals to be held in Cameroon early next year, the foundation for the team’s qualification was laid by Joey Antipas, who took charge of the team’s first two matches and collected four points.
With Logarusic in charge, the Warriors were knocked out in the first round of both the African Nations Championship (CHAN) and the COSAFA Cup finals.
The ZIFA board also resolved to disband the entire Warriors technical team that include assistants, Lloyd Chitembwe, Tonderayi Ndiraya and the recently appointed former Warriors captain, Benjani Mwaruwari.
FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza has since been roped in on an interim basis while ZIFA looks for the substantive Warriors coach.

Highlander player or former player Tinashe Makanda has denied reports and dismissed confirmation that he signed with Dynamos a club that happens to be Highlander’s bitter rival, The Sunday News reports.

Furthermore, Dynamos’ Tonderai Ndiraya said Makdanda has signed a pre-contract a reported that was reportedly confirmed by Moses Shumba the Glamour Boys’ Vice Chairman.
However, Makanda’s agent Trust Nyambiya denied that the star signed with Bosso’s bitter rivals and said there was a deal on the table for a Zambian club for the player and if it doesn’t pan out, he will go back to Highlanders:

Zimbabwean football legend and former Warriors captain <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Moses_Chunga" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Moses “Bambo” Chunga</a> feels that local football greats of yesteryear are underappreciated.
Bambo argued that football is not growing in Zimbabwe because of the disdain shown towards football legends.
Sometimes, it is very difficult for them to enter stadiums and watch football matches and can have dogs unleashed on them, Bambo lamented.
When the Warriors legends played the Barcelona legends in Harare in 2017, the former were each paid $3 000 while the latter were paid $50 000 per player. Said Chunga:
<blockquote>One of the reasons our game continues to lag behind is that we don’t recognise and appreciate the role our football legends played.
For example, you can imagine we were paid a paltry US$3 000 each while the Barcelona legends went home with around US$50 000.</blockquote>
Last year, former Warriors captain Benjani Mwaruwari had to jump over a fence to get into Barbourfields Stadium to watch a match after he was denied free entry.

Treat Football Legends With Respect - Moses Chunga

Dynamos legend Moses Chunga who is currently unattached has said that he is interested in becoming Dynamos’ coach. Speaking to The Standard, Chunga said,
<blockquote>How can I comment about what’s happening at Dynamos when I’m an interested party? I’m always available and willing to help wherever possible, but the decision rests entirely with the club.
…Like what I have always said before, in all things you need to have the right human resources to succeed. You cannot succeed when you have a situation where you’ve got a sheep leading a pride of lions like what’s happening at Dynamos now.</blockquote>

St John’s College midfielder Calum English-Brown is ineligible to play for Zimbabwe’s under-17 soccer team because he holds a British passport.
Speaking to The Herald, ZIFA spokesperson Xolisani Gwesela confirmed that the teenager was not eligible to feature for Zimbabwe in Mauritius for the upcoming COSAFA Under-17 tournament. Warriors under-17 coach Moses Chunga said that he will announce the final squad today.

Teenager ineligible for selection for Warriors U17

Speaking to The Herald, Warriors under 17 coach Moses Chunga justified including his 16 year old son Madalitso in the provisional squad that is preparing for the COSAFA Under-17 tournament which will be held in Mauritius from July 21 to 30.
Said Chunga:
<blockquote>He is just like any other player who has been called into the team. He is only 16 and still needs two years to prove himself. But make no mistake to compare him to the legendary Bambo. Everybody is unique in his own way and I don’t understand why there is always comparison between me and Peter Ndlovu. We train together at home, but he is a bit shy. I don’t want to put him under pressure. But you find that when we are together people always ask him if he is going to be good as me. Very few sons of former successful footballers have made it, but I believe we must leave these youngsters to be what they can be.</blockquote>
