The adverse weather is expected from Wednesday, 19 February to Thursday, 20 February 2025.
In an advisory released on Monday, 17 February 2025, at 4 PM, the MSD warned that heavy rainfall, exceeding 50mm in some areas, is likely, accompanied by lightning and strong wind gusts. Residents in affected regions are urged to stay alert and take necessary precautions. MSD said:

This is anticipated to cause heavy rainfall (exceeding 70 mm) as well as string winds in provinces such as Matabeleland South, Bulawayo Metropolitan, Midlands and southern parts of Matabeleland North, effective from noon of Wednesday 19 February till the early hours of Thursday.
There is a chance of flash floods in flood-prone areas, in river basins. Roads may also be slippery and visibility reduced by rainfall, thus requiring a need for increased braking distance.
There may also be fallen trees and power lines. Therefore the public is advised to take precautionary measures as advised by the Civil Protection Unit.

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has forecasted partly cloudy and mild conditions across all Mashonaland provinces, Harare Metropolitan, Midlands, northern Manicaland, and Matabeleland North on Monday, 17 February, with isolated light rain expected in the morning.
By the afternoon, the weather is predicted to turn mostly cloudy and warm, with scattered thunderstorms and the likelihood of heavy rain in some areas.
Other provinces are expected to experience mild conditions in the morning, becoming partly cloudy and warm in the afternoon, with isolated, potentially thundery showers.
For Tuesday, 18 February, the weather in areas along the main watershed—Matabeleland North, Midlands, Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland East, and Manicaland—will start partly cloudy and mild in the morning, turning mostly cloudy and warm in the afternoon with scattered thunderstorms and heavy rain likely.
Other provinces will also see mild morning conditions, which will gradually become warm in the afternoon with isolated thundershowers possible.
On Saturday,15 February, scattered thunderstorms were experienced across much of the country, attributed to the high moisture levels in the atmosphere. Said the MSD:

Significant rainfall amounts were recorded in Agritex Nyamweda (70mm), Lusulu Tsetse Control (55mm), Mhondoro (55mm), Gwanda (47mm), Kotwa Ardas Mudz i(47mm), Chibero (40mm), Binga (38mm), Masvingo (36mm), Tsunga Seke Ward 17 (35mm), Parkison Secondary School Shurugwi (47mm), Lupane (28mm), Chisumbanje (27mm), and Matopos (21mm).
Over the southern areas (Masvingo, and the southern parts of Manicaland provinces), light showers were experienced due to a cool, moist airflow.
This morning, much of the country’s western half was mostly cloudy, with mild morning conditions and isolated light rains and showers caused by moisture entering from Botswana.
By the afternoon, much of the country was partly cloudy and warm, with scattered thundershowers in some areas.

Hailstorms accompanied by strong winds and cold conditions, are highly probable. Due to the intensity of the rainfall during this period, flash floods are highly likely.

The public has been urged to stay alert for heavy rainfall and the possibility of flash flooding, especially in flood-prone areas, river basins, and wetlands.

Dry Spell Forecast For Southern, Western Zimbabwe Regions Until Monthend

Zimbabwe has been spared the impact of Tropical Cyclone Dikeledi, which has caused massive destruction in Madagascar and Mozambique.
The National Risk and Disaster Management Programme of Madagascar (BNGRC) reported that the cyclone has claimed three lives and affected more than 7,000 people across the Analanjirofo, Diana, and Sava regions in northern Madagascar. The cyclone destroyed 209 homes and damaged 1,092.
In Mozambique, the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (INGD) has confirmed five fatalities, and four injuries, and over 39,000 people affected, with nearly 3,000 homes destroyed.
Meteorologist Baba Maketa of the Meteorological Services Department (MSD) confirmed in an interview with <a href="https://www.zbcnews.co.zw/zimbabwe-spared-from-tropical-cyclone-dikeledi/">ZBC News</a> that Cyclone Dikeledi did not make landfall in Zimbabwe. He said:

Tropical Cyclone Dikeledi did come but did not exactly enter into Zimbabwe. It only affected the northern parts of Madagascar and the northeastern parts of Mozambique, but it returned back to the Mozambican Channel and now it is to the south of Madagascar and it is greatly weakened due to the lower temperatures of the oceans that it is now in.
When it came in the Mozambican Channel, especially when it was to the northwest of Madagascar, it drew moisture away from Zimbabwe towards itself and this resulted in dryness over the northern and eastern parts of Zimbabwe.
At the moment it has passed and it has already gone. We can no longer expect anything from it and currently the rains that we’re experiencing are a result of the normal systems that cause rains in Zimbabwe, that is the ITCZ and cloud bends that always cause rains in Zimbabwe.

According to the Meteorological Services Department (MSD), most of the tropical cyclones that affect Zimbabwe originate from the Southwest Indian Ocean (SWIO), near the islands of Mauritius and La Réunion, before spreading into Madagascar and Mozambique.
The MSD noted that the Tropical Cyclone Season, which typically begins around December, started earlier than usual this season, in October 2024.
So far, there have been four tropical cyclones: Ancha, named by the Comoros Islands; Bheki, named by Eswatini; Chido, named by Zimbabwe; and Dikeledi, named by South Africa, representing the letters A, B, C, and D.
However, Cyclones Ancha and Bheki did not reach Mozambique or Zimbabwe, while Cyclone Chido reached Mozambique but did not affect Zimbabwe.
As for Cyclone Dikeledi, it is expected to continue its southwestward trajectory over the sea and may weaken and dissipate between January 17 and 18.

The cyclone did not make landfall in Zimbabwe, as it weakened over the ocean. The cyclone season started early this year with 4 cyclones so far. Cyclone Dikeledi is expected to weaken and disappear soon. Zimbabwe mostly gets affected by cyclones from the Southwest Indian Ocean.

Cyclone Dikeledi's Destructive Path Misses Zimbabwe

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has assured Zimbabweans that the country is safe from the impact of Severe Tropical Storm Dikeledi for the entire week of Friday, January 10 to Wednesday, January 15, 2025. The storm is currently located 3,000 kilometres away from Zimbabwe.
In an advisory issued at 6 PM on Friday, January 10, the MSD reported that DikelediDikeledi is forecast to make landfall just north of Vohemar town in Antsiranana province, far northeastern Madagascar, on January 11, mid-afternoon (UTC).
The severe tropical storm is expected to hit the Indian Ocean island with maximum sustained winds of up to 179 km/h, classifying it as a tropical cyclone.
After crossing northern Madagascar, the storm is projected to re-emerge on the western side in the Mozambique Channel, where it is expected to lose some of its intensity.
Meanwhile, the MSD has predicted heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in Matabeleland North, Mashonaland West, and Manicaland provinces. However, these weather events are not related to Dikedeli.
Here is the advisory issued by the MSD regarding Severe Tropical Storm Dikeledi:

Most of the Tropical Cyclones that affect Zimbabwe emanate from the Southwest Indian Ocean (SWIO), the ocean close to the islands of Mauritius, and La Reunion spread into Madagascar and Mozambique.
This Tropical Cyclone Season, which usually begins towards December, started earlier than usual (in October 2024).

Based on the current trajectory/path (shown in the Figure to the left) DIKELEDI is forecast to make landfall just north of the area of Vohemar town, Antsiranana province, far northeastern Madagascar on 11 January in the mid-afternoon (UTC), with maximum sustained winds up to 179 km/h (tropical cyclone).
After passing over the lands of northern Madagascar, the system should re-emerge on the western side in the Mozambique Channel, having lost some of its intensity.
Considering the current trajectory, the impacts on Mozambique—if any—will likely only be assessed after it enters the Mozambique Channel, specifically after Sunday, January 12, 2025.
The Meteorological Services Department will continue to monitor and keep the nation informed about its strength and path.

The system has not yet reached the cyclone stage but it is strengthening. It is expected to reach Mozambique on the 17th of December if it maintains its trajectory. The MSD will continue to monitor its progress and update the nation accordingly.

According to a report by <a href="https://crisis24.garda.com/alerts/2024/12/indian-ocean-tropical-cyclone-chido-tracking-westward-toward-agalega-mauritius-dec-11-update-2">Crisis24</a>, Chido is tracking westward across the Indian Ocean toward Agalega, Mauritius, on December 11. As of 11 AM CAT, the system was around 1,072 km north of Port Louis, Mauritius. The report reads in part:

Forecast models indicate that the storm will strengthen as it continues westward and passes just south of Agalega, Mauritius, late Dec. 11.
Chido is expected to briefly strengthen into an intense tropical cyclone as it tracks westward and then west-southwestward away from Agalega on Dec. 12, before weakening back into a tropical cyclone and making landfall over the northern Diana Region in Madagascar late Dec. 13-early Dec. 14.
The system is likely to weaken into a severe tropical storm as it tracks southwestward across the Mozambique Channel Dec. 14-15, passing south of Mayotte late Dec. 14 or early Dec. 15.
The storm will continue to weaken before making another landfall over Nampula Province in Mozambique late Dec. 15 or early Dec. 16.
After landfall, Chido is expected to weaken rapidly into a zone of disturbed weather and dissipate as it tracks southwestward inland over southern Nampula during the morning of Dec. 16.
Some uncertainty remains in the track and intensity forecast; changes could occur in the coming hours and days.

In a weather advisory issued on Thursday, November 29, the MSD said the dry conditions are expected to last until December 11, 2024, leading to a reduction in rainfall across the country.
The Met Department said the relatively dry and hot conditions are a result of a cool, moist south-easterly airflow entering the region this Friday.
Despite the dry conditions, light rain and drizzle are expected in Matabeleland South and Masvingo provinces on Friday. The MSD said:

A cloud band entered the country from the west on Sunday the 10th of November 2024 bringing moisture over all Matabeleland and Bulawayo Metropolitan provinces.
On Monday evening, 11 November more moisture should be driven in from the South-East coast of Southern Africa.
This should result in more rainfall in Matabeleland South, Masvingo and Manicaland Provinces on Tuesday 12 November 2024.
By Wednesday 13 November, the rain-showers should be heavier in the southern parts of Mashonaland West, Mashonaland East and Harare Metropolitan Provinces; with some of the rainfall being in excess of 50mm in 24 hours from Tuesday 12 to Thursday 14 November 2024.

Met Department Forecasts Widespread Rainfall And Heavy Downpours

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has forecasted mostly cloudy and rainy conditions across much of the country for Thursday morning, November 7.
On Wednesday, November 6, thunderstorms were reported nationwide, attributed to a cloud band moving in from the west.
The day began mild but warmed up by afternoon. Windy and cool conditions followed in the south as additional moisture was drawn in from the southeast coast of Southern Africa.
In its latest weather report, the MSD confirmed that on Thursday, the public can expect cloudy, rainy, thundery, and windy weather throughout much of the country. It said:

Mostly cloudy conditions and rain are expected over much of the country, mild at first. Thundery activity is probable in Matabeleland North, Northern parts of Midlands, Harare Metropolitan and all Mashonaland Provinces, though windy in Bulawayo Metropolitan, Matabeleland South, southern parts of Midlands, Masvingo and Manicaland.

In the afternoon, isolated thundershowers are expected under mostly cloudy skies across the country, with warm temperatures in most areas.
The Meteorological Services Department has predicted these isolated thundershowers alongside predominantly cloudy conditions. However, it will be windy in Matabeleland South, Midlands, Masvingo, and Manicaland.
Looking ahead to Friday, the forecast indicates mild, mostly cloudy, and windy conditions in the southern regions, while the north will experience cooler, partly cloudy weather in the morning.
Isolated thunderstorms are anticipated in areas such as Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South, Midlands, Mashonaland West, and Manicaland, with cloudy and cool conditions expected over the south in the afternoon.

Met Department Forecasts Cloudy And Rainy Conditions

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has forecasted reduced daytime temperatures in most parts of the country from Sunday, 23 June, to Friday, 28 June 2024.
In a weather alert released on 22 June in conjunction with the Department of Civil Protection, the Met Department said areas that will be affected by the relatively cold afternoons include Matabeleland South, Bulawayo Metropolitan, Midlands, Masvingo, Manicaland, Mashonaland East and Harare Metropolitan provinces.
Subdued daytime temperatures, cloudy, windy and cold weather conditions, as well as drizzle in some places, are expected during the period.
According to the MSD, these weather conditions are attributable to a cold and moist south-easterly airflow sweeping across the country.
During the period, the public has been advised to stay warm and wear appropriate clothes and where there is a need to use a brazier (mbaura/imbawula) or fire to keep warm, rooms should be well-ventilated to prevent carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. Reads the alert:

Chances of catching a cough, influenza, or a cold, increase during this winter period. Please consult your health practitioner for any health-related ailments.

Carbon monoxide poisoning occurs when there is an excessive buildup of this gas in the blood. It is caused by incomplete combustion of fuels like firewood and charcoal and symptoms include headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, confusion, drowsiness, fatigue, chest pain, shortness of breath, and loss of consciousness.

Met Department Forecasts Low Daytime Temperatures Up To 28 June

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has forecasted the current cold spell to persist until Wednesday when temperatures are expected to rise slightly as clouds break up.
The maximum temperatures are forecast to be below 20 degrees Celsius and minimums to fall as low as 3 degrees Celsius in the early morning.
Cold temperatures were felt on Friday in parts of Matabeleland South, Masvingo Province and Manicaland in south-east Zimbabwe.
South-easterly winds will extend the cold and cloudy conditions to Bulawayo and Harare Metropolitan, along with southern Midlands and Matabeleland North and Mashonaland East by Sunday.
According to the MSD, Matabeleland South, Masvingo, and Manicaland provinces were expected to experience cloudy, windy, and cold conditions for most of today, with a chance of light rain and drizzle in some areas.
In a notice on Friday, the Met Department said that a significant rise in wind pressure was expected over the southeast coast of Southern Africa.
This was expected to drive a cold and moist south-easterly airflow into Zimbabwe. It said:

Before the clouds set in, anticipate a cold and relatively dry southerly airflow on Friday with moderate ground frost and early morning temperatures below 3 deg Celsius in frost-prone areas such as Matopos, Gweru, Lupane, Masvingo, Marondera and Nyanga.

The MSD said from this Saturday, the weather should become cloudy, windy and cold over Matabeleland South, Masvingo and Manicaland Provinces for much of the day with light rain and drizzle in some places. It said:

These conditions should extend into Bulawayo Metropolitan, southern parts of Matabeleland North and Midlands, as well as both Harare and Mashonaland East Provinces on Sunday and only become slightly warmer on Wednesday as the clouds break.

The MSD warned members of the public that chances of getting a cough, influenza or a cold increase during this transition period towards winter, hence people should dress warmly and ensure that vulnerable members of society are kept warm both early morning and late evening.

Met Department Forecasts Chilly Weather, Cold Spell Expected To Linger Until Midweek

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has said Tropical Storm Filipo which is currently on the south-east coast of Mozambique will not cause any damage in Zimbabwe as it is expected to only bring some winds and moderate rain.
In a statement, MSD head of forecasting James Ngoma said the public should not panic. He said:

Tropical Storm Filipo will not affect Zimbabwe much. More information is in the weather report and forecast but do not panic, Zimbabwe is safe.

In a weather update on Tuesday, 12 March, the MSD said Tropical Storm Filipo brought rainfall amounts of less than 15mm in some parts of the country. The MSD said:

Tropical Storm Filipo made landfall over Mozambique in the early hours of this morning. The highest was 62mm in Beira, Mozambique while Massangena, more inland Mozambique, received 33mm, as Filipo lost strength and headed further southward.
In Zimbabwe, the rainfall due to Filipo was below 15mm [14mm (Chipinge) and 11mm (Mukandi)] in the East Highlands, with windy and cloudy conditions in Manicaland and Masvingo.
Meanwhile, Filipo is also drawing moisture into the country from the north, this resulted in isolated thunderstorms in the Mashonaland Provinces with the highest recorded in these provinces being in Kotwa with 29mm and 12mm in Dotito.
The Meteorological Services Department will continue to monitor and keep the nation advised on any developments.

Zimbabwe Safe From Tropical Storm Filipo

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has forecasted a heatwave from today until 12 March, with temperatures expected to rise as high as 41 degrees, although some isolated thundershowers are expected this week.
A heatwave is when the maximum and minimum temperatures are unusually hot over 3 days.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, 05 March, MSD urged people to stay hydrated as the heatwave could cause health-related complications, including sudden death for vulnerable citizens. The Met Department said (via <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/victoria-falls-airport-tightens-security/">Chronicle</a>):

These extremely hot conditions are caused by a combination of factors, such as the persistent northerly air mass or wind flow that originates from the low-pressure system at the surface of the atmosphere and a high-pressure system at upper levels with a strong subsiding motion that prevents the heat energy from escaping into the outer atmosphere.
In addition to these uncomfortably and unbearably hot conditions, thundershowers are expected to occur over some areas of the country.

The Department advised people to drink more water or any hydrating fluids, avoid prolonged stays under the sun, stay in the shade and wear wide-brimmed hats or use umbrellas.

Met Department Warns Of Heatwave

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has forecasted heavy rains across much of the country from 11 January to 17 January.
In a weather alert issued on Wednesday, 10 January, the MSD warned of heavy rains above 50mm along the main watershed.
It said the heavy rainfall is caused by the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone combined with a cloud band coming from the western parts of the country. Read the forecast:

The Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), which has been active over the northern parts of the country is expected to combine with a cloud band, which is moving from the west to the east covering the whole country.
As a result, the combined effect of the two should result in precipitation amounts over 50mm in areas along the main watershed.
</blockquote>
Rain above 50mm is expected in Bulawayo, plus Matobo, Umzingwane, Insiza, and parts of Mangwe in Matabeleland South and Umguza and Bubi in Matabeleland North.
Zvishavane, Shurugwi, Kwekwe, Kadoma, Chirumhanzu and Mberengwa in Midlands and Chivi, and Gutu in Masvingo are also expected to receive rainfall exceeding 50mm.
In the north, the 50mm rainfall is likely in Harare Metropolitan, Chegutu, Zvimba, Bindura, Shamva, and Uzumba-Maramba-Pfungwe in Mashonaland West and Chikomba, Seke, Wedza, Marondera, Murehwa and Mutoko in Mashonaland East.
The rest of the country, although expected to receive heavy rains, will likely record below 50mm.
The MSD has warned the public that lightning and hailstorms are probable in some places.
Members of the public have been advised to stay indoors during thunderstorms unless it is an emergency, and also not to attempt to cross flooded rivers on foot or in vehicles.

Met Department Issues Heavy Rains Warning

The Civil Protection Unit (CPU) has urged communities in flood-prone areas to be on high alert as heavy rains coupled with hailstorms are expected throughout the country until 30 December 2023.
In a recent statement, the Meteorological Service Department (MSD) said heavy rains are expected in the northern parts of Manicaland, Mashonaland East, Mashonaland Central and Harare, before spreading across the country by Saturday.
The Met Department warned that low-lying areas such as Muzarabani and the Zambezi Valley among other areas were at a high risk of flooding.
According to the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/flood-prone-areas-on-high-alert-as-heavy-storms-forecast/">Chronicle</a>, in the Matabeleland region, Tsholotsho and Binga have pockets that are always susceptible to flooding, while in Bulawayo, areas that include parts of Nkulumane, Nketa and Cowdray Park suburbs often experience flooding during heavy storms.
The MSD said an anticipated cloud band that would bring along heavy rains landed in the country yesterday and the Matabeleland region received the heavier rains. It said:

The much-anticipated cloud band has fallen into Zimbabwe and this morning the western half of the country recorded some significant falls. The highest measured amounts of rainfall were at; Bulawayo Goetz Observatory 31mm, Binga 21mm, Lupane 15mm, Victoria Falls 14mm, Kariba 13mm and Joshua Nkomo International Airport 10mm. Meanwhile, the cloud band is sweeping across the country from the West to the East.
The western parts of the country should be affected first then by 30 December the whole country should have been affected. Localised heavy downpours with rainfall above 50mm in 24 hours are anticipated in some places with strong winds, lightning and hailstorms.
All areas are expected to receive localised rainfall amounts of 50mm or more in 24 hours and flooding is probable in low-lying areas such as the Muzarabani, Save, and Zambezi valley.

The MSD warned members of the public against crossing flooded rivers, saying people can be swept away by water above their ankles while a 30cm depth of flowing water can even sweep away large vehicles.
The MSD also urged the public to avoid being in fields, hilltops, tall trees, and bodies of water and remain indoors during thunderstorms to avoid being struck by lightning.
Meanwhile, the CPU, which deals with natural disasters in the country, said it has activated all its sub-national structures to deal with rain-related eventualities. CPU director Nathan Nkomo said:

As per our tradition, we have activated all our sub-national structures and we have done our educational awareness campaigns. We usually say if you see your programme being adopted by traditional leaders then you would be satisfied.
So we have communicated with the traditional leaders’ structures on issues governing disasters.
We might not have given them adequate resources but it is very very critical information spreads in communities.
It is our motto that disaster prevention begins with information and we have spread the information.

Zimbabwe is poorly prepared for natural disasters such as floods due to the underfunding of the CPU and there is an acute shortage of equipment to rescue victims.

The northern and western parts of the country are expected to have cloudy conditions with a chance of isolated light showers this Monday, the Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has said in its latest weather report and forecast.
The MSD said on Sunday, mostly sunny conditions were experienced throughout the country with mild morning conditions becoming hot in the afternoon.
This Monday, it is expected to be cloudy in some parts of the country, with thundery showers forecasted. Said the MSD:

The northern and western parts of the country (Manicaland, All Mashonaland Provinces, Midlands, Bulawayo and Masvingo Provinces) are expected to have cloudy conditions with a chance of isolated light showers which may be thundery in places. It should be mild at first becoming warm by the afternoon in these areas.
Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South and some parts of Masvingo Provinces should be mostly sunny with warm to hot daytime conditions however there are slight chances of isolated thundershowers later in the afternoon.

The Met Department has warned members of the public that lightning remains a threat in all areas.
Hot daytime temperatures may result in dehydration and heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke, heat exhaustion and heat rash.
On Tuesday, 21 November, the bulk of the country should be mostly cloudy with chances of scattered afternoon light but thundery showers, except for Matabeleland South and Masvingo provinces which are anticipated to be partly cloudy and hot, said the MSD.

Isolated Showers Forecasted For Northern And Western Parts Of Zimbabwe

Daytime temperatures are expected to drop on Thursday and Friday as cloudy, windy, and cold conditions drift into the country through the south-eastern border, the Meteorological Services Department (MSD) said on Wednesday afternoon.
Very cold, windy, and cloudy conditions are forecasted for Masvingo, Matabeleland South, Bulawayo Metropolitan, Midlands, Manicaland, Harare Metropolitan, southern areas of Mashonaland East and Matabeleland North provinces, with minimum temperatures plummeting to as low as 3 degrees celsius in places.
Light rain and drizzle, strong and chilling winds as well as ground frost are also expected in isolated areas mostly on Thursday, according to the Met Department. The MSD said:

Advection of very cold and relatively moist into Zimbabwe from the southeast coast of Southern Africa should cause a decline in daytime temperatures in the southern and eastern parts of the country. [NB: winds from the southern regions of the Indian Ocean are relatively cooler since they emanate from areas near the south pole].
The peak of these winds is on Thursday evening, 20 July, thus the cloudy. windy and drizzly conditions reach their furthest north points during this period overnight and recede by Friday, evening 21 July 2023, giving rise to a warmer weekend.

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has forecasted ground frost in most parts of the country from Saturday to Tuesday next week.
In a weather advisory issued at 12 PM this Friday, 14 July, the Met Department identified Matabeleland South, Bulawayo, Matabeleland North, Midlands, Northern Masvingo, Harare, Manicaland, Mashonaland East, Southern Mashonaland West and Central Provinces as frost-prone areas.
Moderate ground frost is forecasted for Saturday, while severe ground frost is expected from Sunday to Tuesday.
MSD has advised the public to watch out for freezing (sub-zero) ground temperatures and very cold overnight and early morning conditions.

Freezing Temperatures Forecasted From Sunday

The cold spell currently prevailing across the country has pushed minimum temperatures below zero degrees Celsius in some parts of the country.
According to the Meteorological Department (MSD), on Wednesday, 12 July, ground frost was recorded in areas such as Henderson (-2°C), Lupane (-1°C), Mutoko (2°C) and Nyanga (2°C).
The Met Department said it was cloudy, drizzly, and cold in the morning in areas such as Bulawayo Metropolitan, Matabeleland South, Masvingo, Manicaland and southern parts of Midlands (Gweru to Mberengwa).
All other areas (Matabeleland North, northern areas of Midlands, Harare Metropolitan and all Mashonaland Province) had mostly clear skies.
For Thursday, 13 July, MSD has forecasted brief cloudy and cold morning conditions for the northern half of the country, while parts of Masvingo, Mash West, and Mat North will experience very cold conditions. MSD said:

[Tomorrow] it is expected that areas along the Highveld (Bulawayo Metropolitan, central areas of the Midlands, Harare Metropolitan, Manicaland, southern districts of Mashonaland East, northern areas of Masvingo and Matabeleland Provinces) will experience brief cloudy and cold morning conditions, reducing the incidents of ground frost.
All other places (southern parts of Masvingo, Matabeleland North, Mashonaland West and Central Provinces) should have very cold morning conditions with mostly clear skies and slight ground frost in area such as Lupane, Henderson and Nyanga.
By noon, the majority of the country is forecast to be mild, becoming cold towards evening.

Those who need to use a brazier/fire to keep warm have been advised to ensure the room is well-ventilated.

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has advised the nation to expect cold and windy conditions as a cold front sweeps across the country from this Tuesday to tomorrow.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Met Department said the cold spell will be accompanied by strong gusts of cold wind. It said:

The entire country should be cold and windy in the morning. Mostly cloudy and drizzly conditions are expected over the southern and eastern parts of the country (namely Matabeleland South, Bulawayo Metropolitan, Masvingo, south of Midlands, Manicaland, south of Mashonaland East and Harare metropolitan) cool by day, becoming cold overnight.

Keep warm especially if you are in the southern parts of the country and wear a sunhat and carry an umbrella if there is a need to be outdoors if you are in the northern parts of the country.
Monitor temperature within fowl runs and adjust accordingly to reduce these impacts of cold conditions on the bird population.

On Monday, 10 July, South Africa’s biggest city, Johannesburg, experienced snow and sleet for the first time in over a decade.
Snow was reported in a number of provinces including the Eastern Cape, Mpumalanga and the Gauteng region which includes Johannesburg and Soweto.

Met Department Predicts A Windy And Much Cooler Weekend

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has said isolated showers, drizzle, and rain which were experienced in some parts of the country on Tuesday will continue this Wednesday.
In an interview with <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/wet-spell-set-to-continue/">The Herald</a>, MSD head of forecasting James Ngoma said the late rains experienced yesterday were normal and came towards the end of the rainy season.
He said the wet spell emanated from a cloud band that was passing across the country from Botswana, but by Thursday, “normal” conditions should prevail. Said Ngoma:

We had a cloud band that was passing across the country from Botswana.
This gave us cloudy conditions over much of the country with isolated showers in a number of areas coupled with a bit of lightning and thunder, but this is very seasonal and comes towards the end of the rainy season.

<h2>PREAMBLE</h2>
Cool and cloudy conditions with fresh southeasterly winds were experienced in the south and eastern parts of the country, that is; Matabeleland South, Masvingo and Manicaland while the rest of the country was partly cloudy and warmer.
Meanwhile, the high-pressure system that was responsible for the windy conditions is weakening thereby paving way for a cloud band in the south.
<h2>FORECAST FOR TOMORROW, TUESDAY 28 MARCH 2023</h2>
Partly cloudy conditions with scattered thunderstorms are expected in the northern parts of the country that is; Harare Metropolitan, All Mashonaland Provinces, Matabeleland North, the northern half of Midlands and the northern half of Manicaland.
The southern half ( Matabeleland South, Bulawayo Metropolitan, Masvingo, southern half of Midlands and the southern parts of Manicaland Provinces) should start of cool and cloudy becoming less cloudy and warm as the day progresses.

<li>Even when skies seem clear overhead, lightning remains a threat, as thunderstorm clouds may be near.</li>

Cloudy conditions coupled with isolated thunderstorms are expected in Matabeleland North Province and some parts of Midlands.
Partly conditions are expected in the northern parts of the country (All Mashonaland Provinces, Harare Metropolitan and the northern parts of Manicaland) with thunderstorms in places.
The southern areas (Matabeleland South, Masvingo and south of Manicaland) should start off cool becoming warm by afternoon.

Partly cloudy conditions prevailed over the country during the day and no station recorded more than 3mm of rainfall.
Meanwhile, a high-pressure ridge is approaching the southeast of the sub-continent.
<h2>FORECAST FOR TOMORROW, SATURDAY 25 MARCH 2023,</h2>
Manicaland, Masvingo, Bulawayo Metropolitan, Matabeleland South and the southern half of Midlands; early morning cloudy, cool and windy conditions with rain and drizzle are expected.
Matabeleland North, the northern half of Midlands and all Mashonaland provinces; Briefly cloudy conditions with a chance of isolated thunderstorms and temperatures in the mild category are forecast.
Thunderstorms remain probable, and these pose a threat to humans and livestock as well as property.

The northern parts of the country that is, all Mashonaland provinces, Matabeleland North, the northern half of Midlands, Harare Metropolitan and the northern areas of Manicaland provinces should be partly cloudy with scattered thunderstorms while the southern areas (the southern half of Midlands, Matabeleland South, Bulawayo metropolitan, Masvingo and the southern parts of Manicaland provinces) should have early morning clouds in cool conditions which will disperse as the day progresses which will see temperatures rising to the mild to warm category.

The weather report and forecast issued by the Meteorological Services Department in conjunction with the Department of Civil Protection at 4 PM on Wednesday 15 March 2023 valid until Friday 17 March 2023:
<h2>PREAMBLE</h2>
There were cloudy and mild conditions in Midlands, Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland East Matabeleland South, Masvingo and Manicaland Provinces and less windy due to the weakening of the low-pressure system (former Tropical Cyclone Freddy) with merely light rainfalls.
The highest amounts were only 12mm (Zaka), 11mm (Kezi) and 10mm (Buhera); other places in the mentioned provinces had light rain and drizzle, as well as isolated showers in the periphery of the cloud.
The north-western half of the country i.e. Matabeleland North and Mashonaland West Provinces started partly cloudy and mild, and become sunny and hot by noon.
<h2>FORECAST FOR TOMORROW, THURSDAY 16 MARCH 2023,</h2>
Mostly cloudy and warm conditions are expected in Harare Metropolitan, northern parts of Manicaland and all Mashonaland Provinces with afternoon isolated thunderstorms due to the fringes of the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).
Southern areas of Manicaland and Masvingo Provinces should be cloudy and mild at first with light rain in places becoming partly cloudy and warm by the afternoon.
Midlands, Matabeleland North and Matabeleland South should start off partly cloudy and mild becoming sunny and warm by noon.

Masvingo and southern districts of Manicaland are anticipated to be briefly cloudy and mild at first becoming mostly sunny and warm by mid-morning.
Much of Matabeleland North, Midlands, Bulawayo Metropolitan and Matabeleland South is expected to be mostly sunny and warm by day, becoming mild towards evening.
