<p><span>The US and the UK have warned their people to “avoid all non-essential travel or movement” to Nigeria over the risk of terror attacks in Nigeria.</span></p>
<p><span>BBC News reported that the US embassy in Abuja said there was a long list of potential targets, including: </span></p>
<blockquote>
<p><span><em>Government buildings, places of worship, schools, markets, shopping malls, hotels, bars, restaurants, athletic gatherings, transport terminals, law enforcement facilities, and international organizations</em>.</span></p>
</blockquote>
<p><span>The US also said Abuja is at special risk of being attacked.</span></p>
<p><span>In a security notice, the embassy told people to stay alert and avoid crowds to keep safe.</span></p>
<p><span>Meanwhile, the UK government warned that “attacks could be indiscriminate and could affect western interests, as well as places visited by tourists”.</span></p>
<p><span>Nigeria is facing rising insecurity. Back in July, more than 400 prisoners went missing after a prison break which Islamist militants claimed responsibility for.</span></p>
<p><span>At the time Defence Minister Bashir Magashi told reporters that 64 jailed jihadists had escaped from the prison.</span></p>
<p><span>The government of outgoing President Buhari is facing increasing criticism for its failure to tackle the country’s widespread insecurity with armed kidnapping gangs and militant groups unleashing violence.</span></p>
<p><span>Just last week, the First Lady apologised in an interview with the BBC, saying that her husband’s administration tried their best, but may not have lived up to what people expected.</span></p>
<p><span>Following his victory in Nigeria’s presidential election in 2015, General Muhammadu Buhari singled out the threat of the militant Islamist group Boko Haram as the biggest problem facing the country.</span></p>
<p><span>Gen Buhari, who was a former military ruler, said he needed the cooperation of other countries to tackle Boko Haram more quickly.</span></p>
<p><span>Boko Haram continues to be a threat to the West African country.</span></p>

UK, USA, Warn Against Travelling To Nigeria

<p><span>Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday said a boat carrying 85 people capsised in a flooded river in Nigeria’s Anambra state, </span></p>
<p><span>It is alleged that they were taking the overloaded boat on Friday when flooding of the Niger River caused it to tip over, AFP reported.</span></p>
<p><span>Buhari’s office quoted him as saying:</span></p>

<p><span><em>The boat reportedly carrying 85 persons capsized following rising floods in Ogbaru area of the state, with emergency services confirming a death toll of 76. I pray for the repose of the souls of the deceased and for everyone’s safety, as well as the well-being of the family members of the victims of this tragic accident.</em></span></p>

<p><span>He directed the emergency services to provide relief to the victims.</span></p>
<p><span>Earlier on Sunday, the emergency services said the rising water level was hampering rescue efforts.</span></p>
<p><span>It is reported that the flooding was the worst the country has seen in years, with the water level around one-tenth higher than a decade ago.</span></p>
<p><span>The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) requested the Nigerian Air Force provide helicopters for the rescue operation.</span></p>
<p><span>Anambra state governor Charles Soludo urged residents of flood-ravaged areas to relocate while adding that the government would provide relief to those affected by the disaster.</span></p>
<p><span>Boat accidents occur regularly in Nigeria because of overloading, speeding, poor maintenance and disregarding navigation rules.</span></p>
<p><span>Anambra is among the 29 of Nigeria’s 36 states to have experienced heavy flooding this year. The floodwaters have washed away homes, crops, and roads and impacted at least half a million people.</span></p>

Nigeria: Boat Carrying 85 People Capsises In Flooded River

<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">Police in the north-western Nigerian state of Zamfara say they have arrested four people allegedly involved in cannibalism and selling human organs.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">Ayuba Elkanah, the state’s commissioner of police told journalists on Thursday that the suspects were arrested after detectives found a corpse in an uncompleted building with some body parts missing.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">The discovery happened during an investigation into the disappearance of a nine-year-old boy.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">Mr Elkanah said the suspects, two men and two teenage boys, were arrested last week, adding that other members of the gang were being tracked down.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">The police chief said investigations had revealed that the alleged ring leader had on two occasions paid the other suspects 500 000 naira ($1 200; £880) for the human parts.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">Zamfara is one of the states worst hit by a wave of killings and kidnappings for ransom, with authorities facing criticism for failing to tackle the violence.</span></p>

Nigerian Police Arrest Four People Over Cannibalism

<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">President Muhammadu Buhari Thursday said Nigeria is working to develop a COVID-19 vaccine as the West African country battles growing cases of the virus.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">Health experts say Nigeria needs to triple its vaccination drive from just over 100 000 doses a day to meet its target of inoculating more than half its population by the end of next year.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">Nigeria has been exploring options to acquire or purchase vaccines through the COVAX facility to enable it to inoculate at least 70% of its population.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">It received vaccine donations some of which had a shelf life that left only weeks to administer the shots. Nigeria destroyed more than one million expired vaccines last month. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">Buhari said in a televised interview:</span></p>

Nigeria Working On COVID-19 Vaccine - President Buhari

<p>Nigerian Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru and ten other military officers including the crew have died in a plane crash in the country’s north.</p>
<p>The Nigerian armed forces announced in a statement that the plane crash occurred on Friday “due to inclement weather” as the plane was landing at the Kaduna International Airport.</p>

Plane Crash Kills Nigerian Army Chief, Ten Other Officers

<p>Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari (77) has once again appointed a dead man to a senior government post.</p>
<p>The appointee is the late legislator Mr Tobias Chukwuemeka Okwuru whose funeral was in February.</p>
<p>Okwuru had been appointed to the Federal Character Commission but was not available to take up the position due to his death at the age of 59.</p>
<p>This is not the first time Buhari has appointed a dead person after he appointed at least five people who were long dead onto several boards of government entities.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, Buhari’s media aide said that when Okwuru died, the information was not communicated to the Federal government.</p>

Nigeria President Appoints A Dead Man To A Senior Govt Position, Again

<p>The president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, on Thursday said that the damage Tropical Cyclone Idai made to Zimbabwe was too big to ignore.</p>
<p>He made these remarks whilst bidding farewell to Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Lovemore Mazemo. Buhari said:</p>
<blockquote><p>It was a major disaster, and it caused damage in billions of dollars. Nigeria, despite our own challenges, had to provide aid to ameliorate the situation,” the president said, adding that he was glad that the outgoing ambassador and his country appreciated the assistance.</p></blockquote>
<p>The Cyclone hit the Eastern parts of Zimbabwe, Manicaland and some parts of Masvingo, destroying infrastructure, lives and crops.</p>
<p>Many people were left homeless whilst some were never found. The donor community assisted survivors with food, clothing, blankets, psychological support and everything they could.</p>

Despite Our Own Challenges, We Had To Assist Zimbabwe - Nigeria President

<p>Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has called for calm, peace and respect for Zimbabwe’s constitution. In a statement released on Wednesday, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina said Buhari urged all political and military stakeholders in Zimbabwe to avoid any action that may plunge the country into unnecessary conflict and impact negatively on the region.</p>
<p>The statement quoted President Buhari as saying, “every attempt must be made to resolve all contentious issues by constitutional means in Zimbabwe to save the country from avoidable political instability.”</p>
