Two Harare men, Norest Sasa (39) of Tafara, Mabvuku, and Clive Makofa of Old Tafara, Mabvuku, were arraigned before the Harare Magistrates’ Court, facing seven counts of robbery and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm.
The court heard on December 16, 2024, the accused robbed a Mukuru Money transfer booth at Glenview 2 Shopping Centre.
They allegedly fired gunshots, demanding money from the teller, who complied. They ordered the teller to open a cash box containing US$1,839 and R2,350, which they placed into a black satchel.
Sasa and Makofa then searched one of the clients and stole his brown wallet containing US$950 before escaping in their getaway vehicle, a Black Toyota Mark X, while firing shots into the air to disperse the crowd.
On December 20, 2024, the accused, using the same method, targeted another Mukuru Money Transfer booth at Kamunhu Shopping Centre in Mabvuku, making off with US$1,374 and R22,000.
Their crime spree continued as they robbed the Manyame Complex Mukuru Money Transfer booth, stealing US$5,030 and R18,700, and the Beatrice Mukuru booth in January 2025.
The case was remanded to January 29, 2025, and the accused were advised to seek bail at the High Court.

Two Robbers In Court After A String Of Mukuru Booth Heists

A man suspected to be part of a gang of armed robbers that targeted Mukuru Money Transfer agencies around Harare in recent weeks has been arrested.
According to <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/member-of-a-gang-of-armed-robbers-who-attacked-mukuru-money-transfer-booths-in-the-past-few-weeks-nabbed-he-says-he-will-plead-guilty-to-two-counts-of-armed-robberies/">H-Metro</a>, Clever Chada, from Stoneridge, appeared before Regional Magistrate Tilda Mazhande facing armed robbery charges. He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody.
Chada told the court that he would plead guilty to two of the robberies and a charge of illegal possession of explosives recovered from his car.
The alleged crimes date back to December 16, 2024, when Chada and his gang reportedly robbed the Mukuru Money Transfer booth at Glen View Shopping Centre.
They arrived in a black Toyota Mark X, parked outside the booth, and confronted the complainant, Tawanda Tagara, who was on duty. The robbers fired shots into the air and ordered everyone inside the booth to lie down.
They then threatened Tagara with firearms and demanded money, forcing him to open the cash box containing US$1,839 and R2,350, which they placed in a black satchel.
In addition, they searched client Proud Muchairi, stealing his brown wallet, which contained US$950, a driver’s license, and business cards, before making their escape, firing shots into the air.
Four days later, on December 20, the gang struck again at the Mukuru Money Transfer booth at Kamunhu Shopping Centre in Mabvuku.
The suspects, who were reportedly driving an unmarked silver Toyota Sienta, fired shots into the air and demanded cash from complainant Belinda Chapepura.
Despite her pressing the panic button linked to Safeguard Rapid Response, the robbers continued their attack, threatening to shoot her. She complied, handing over US$1,374 and R22,000 before they escaped.
On January 3, the gang targeted the Mukuru Money Transfer booth at Manyame Complex. Armed with pistols, they demanded money from employees Munyaradzi Rusere and Sarafina Banda, threatening them with death.
After stealing two cash boxes containing US$5,530 and R18,700, they confronted Sarudzai Pupajena, an EcoCash operator, and stole US$680 in cash and a G-Tel cell phone. The gang fired a shot into the air before fleeing the scene.
The gang’s final known robbery occurred on Saturday at a Mukuru Money Transfer booth in Beatrice. After attacking tellers Simbarashe Mutirandwa and Tatenda Walter Muchenje, one gang member drew a pistol and demanded the booth’s door keys.
The robbers stole US$3,500, ransacked the booth for other valuables, and took two Mukuru cell phones, as well as the teller’s Samsung A35 cellphone. They locked the two tellers in the booth before escaping.
Chada was arrested after police received a tip-off. Upon searching his car, they discovered three Thunder T90 explosive dynamites, one Emex explosive dynamite, and detonator cables, all without a valid license for possession.

A man named Clever Chada from Harare has been arrested for robbing Mukuru Money Transfer booths with his gang. Chada plans to plead guilty to two robberies. The gang stole money and threatened employees with guns at multiple locations. Chada had explosives in his car when he was arrested. He is facing charges of armed robbery and illegal possession of explosives. Chada was caught after a tip-off to the police.

Harare Man To Plead Guilty To Robbing Two Mukuru Booths

Four armed robbers targeted a money transfer shop in Glen View, Harare, on Monday morning, making off with over US$2,700 and R2,350.
According to a statement from the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) posted on their official X page, the suspects, armed with pistols, fired two shots into the air before demanding cash from both the teller and a customer. Police said:

The ZRP is investigating circumstances surrounding a case of armed robbery which occurred on 16/12/24 at around 0939 hours at a money transfer shop at Glenview 2 Shopping Centre, Harare.

The suspects stole US$ 2 789.00 and ZAR 2 350.00 cash and drove off in their get-away car, a black Toyota Mark X vehicle.

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward and report it to the nearest police station.
Earlier reports indicated that the robbed money transfer shop is part of the Mukuru Money Transfer agency and is located inside a pharmacy at Makomva Shopping Centre.

Over US$2,700, R2,350 Stolen In Mukuru Armed Robbery

Two unknown suspects, armed with knives and paper spray, attacked two victims who were preparing to deposit money at the bank on June 3, 2023, at Satguru Travels, stealing a bag containing US$78,000 and three cellphones. Harare police are conducting an investigation into the robbery and urged anyone with information about the incident is urged to report to the nearest police station. In a statement seen by Pindula News, the police said:

Armed robbery cases at banks and other financial institutions in Zimbabwe are frequent occurrences. In recent years, there have been numerous high-profile incidents of armed robberies that have targeted banks and their customers. Typically, these incidents involve armed suspects who enter the bank premises and demand money from customers and staff at gunpoint. 
In September 2022, five armed robbers robbed CBZ Bank’s Fife Street branch in Bulawayo, getting away with US$70,000. Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi reported then that the armed robbers masqueraded as genuine customers and queued like everyone else in the banking hall. They then pounced on the bank manager and stole US$70,000. The suspects also jammed the exit door on their way out before escaping.
The robbery followed a similar incident in August at a Mukuru branch in the city centre, where armed robbers got away with over US$100,000.

Armed Robbers Pounce On Duo Just Before Depositing US$78K Into A Bank

Five suspected armed robbers kidnapped a Mukuru Money Transfer employee at his residence in Mashava on Monday evening and drove him to a supermarket where they stole more than US$20 000 and over R32 000 from a safe.
In a statement posted on Twitter, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the suspects were armed with an unidentified firearm and using an unregistered grey Toyota vehicle. The Police said:

The suspects attacked the supermarket cashier before forcing the complainant to open the safe.

Robbers Drag Mukuru Employee From His Residence

Six armed men allegedly robbed a Mukuru money transfer outlet in Silobela in Midlands Province on Tuesday at around midday.
Police said the suspects allegedly handcuffed a cashier and security guard manning the booth at gunpoint before they got away with US$1 800, R7 800 and cellphones.
After the robbery, the suspects reportedly sped off in their getaway car, a Toyota Wish.
ZRP spokesperson in Midlands Province, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident to the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/armed-robbers-raid-mukuru-outlet/">Chronicle</a>. He said:

The robbers masqueraded as genuine clients and joined the queue pretending to be waiting for their turn to be served.
Three of them entered the booth and produced pistols before they ordered all clients in the booth to lie down.

The suspects threatened to shoot the teller before ordering him to surrender all the money and out of fear, he complied.
Insp Mahoko said the robbers then used the security guard’s handcuffs to jointly cuff both the guard and the teller. He added:
They then ransacked the booth and took the money and two cellphones before speeding off in a Toyota Wish towards Nkayi.
He said no arrests had been made and the ZRP is appealing to anyone with information that could lead to the suspects’ arrest to contact any nearest police station.
