Zimbabwean national football team defender Munashe Garananga has officially completed his transfer from Belgian club KV Mechelen to Danish club FC Copenhagen on a four-year deal.
Garananga had joined KV Mechelen just six months ago, after being acquired from Moldovan club Sheriff Tiraspol.
However, his stay with the Belgian side was short-lived, as FC Copenhagen has now secured his services for a reported transfer fee of €4 million.
At his new club, Garananga has been assigned the number 4 shirt.
FC Copenhagen’s sporting director, Sune Smith-Nielsen, has expressed his belief that the addition of Garananga will strengthen the squad of head coach Jacob Neestrup. He said:

We are bringing in a player who has performed incredibly strongly in the Belgian league and who has drawn attention to himself after taking some big steps in a short time.
The scouting team led by Andreas Hintze has done their job well and they have followed Munashe for a long time.
It has been obvious that we have been missing a player for this position, and we have now covered that with the signing of Munashe.

Neestrup said he was looking forward to having the defender on his team. He said:

We are getting a physically strong player who is skilled with the ball. This will help us in the way we want to defend, but also in our play with the ball.

Garananga said he was excited to be joining the club, adding that he was targeting the Danish championship in the upcoming 2024/25 season. He said:

I have had no doubt that this is an opportunity I must seize, and it will be great to get started at F.C. Copenhagen. I have not been able to avoid noticing the club’s great results.

Garananga was a member of the Warriors squads for the four 2026 World Cup qualifiers that Zimbabwe played against Rwanda, Nigeria, Lesotho and South Africa.
The 23-year-old Garananga has played for Ubuntu Cape Town, Dynamo Brest, FC Sheriff, and KV Mechelen.

Warriors defender Munashe Garana’nga is reportedly set to join Danish club FC Copenhagen from Belgian side KV Mechelen on a four-year contract.
The proposed move would see FC Copenhagen pay around US$4.3 million for the 23-year-old international, making him the first Zimbabwean player to feature for the Danish club.
The transfer fee represents a significant increase from the amount KV Mechelen paid for Garan’anga in January when they acquired him from Moldovan team Sheriff Tiraspol. The reported US$4.3 million fee is approximately 10 times what Mechelen paid for the defender.
Garan’anga’s impressive performances reportedly attracted interest from several high-profile clubs, including English Premier League side Leicester City, German Bundesliga club Borussia Monchengladbach, and Spanish La Liga team Real Betis.
Before his move to Belgium, the player was also wanted by French Ligue 1 club Clermont Foot.

Warriors defender <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Munashe_Garananga">Munashe Garananga</a> has completed his permanent transfer to Belgian Pro League club KV Mechelen from Moldovan team Sheriff Tiraspol.
Garananga (23), links up with fellow Zimbabwean Bill Antonio, who is also a former Prince Edward Boys High student, at the top-flight side.

Mechelen Sports Director Tim Matthys said Garananga’s signature was being sought by several clubs. He said:

Garananga is a former Ubuntu Cape Town Academy player. He joined the Belarusian premier league side, Dynamo Brest in February 2022
In January 2023, Garananga left Dynamo Brest to join the Moldovan team, Sheriff Tiraspol.
He made his debut for Sheriff in the Europa Conference League playoffs stage against Serbian side FK Partizan in February 2023.
