Namibian opposition leader Job Amupanda, head of the Affirmative Repositioning movement, has accused ZANU PF of interfering in Namibia’s elections held on November 30.
During a press conference on Monday, Amupanda warned the governing South West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO) that its ties with ZANU PF could have detrimental consequences. He said (via <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/namibia-opposition-warns-of-long-time-political-chaos-caused-by-zanu-pfs-interference/">NewZimbabwe.com</a>):

ZANU PF will side with one faction of the ruling party and will create a lot of chaos. You see already the factions are there. It is easier to enjoy the funny things that are happening.
We ought to say that you can’t have ZANU PF people on Twitter and Facebook and everywhere who are saying this is what is happening. The ZANU PF are the ones who are celebrating. SWAPO people are quiet but it is ZANU PF celebrating.

Over the weekend, President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s spokesperson, George Charamba, prematurely celebrated the victory of SWAPO candidate Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, although the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) had not yet declared the official results.
ZANU PF has faced accusations of interfering in recent elections in both Mozambique and Namibia.
Amupanda warned that the repercussions of ZANU PF’s interference in Namibia would be felt for years to come. He said:

You think you have a strategy to use ZANU PF? But remember you gave birth to this country.

I can guarantee you this when those factions continue to fight and SWAPO loses power. ZANU PF will run to the nearest available political party.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has congratulated Ndemupelila Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, the newly elected President of Namibia, following her victory in the presidential election held on November 30.
Nandi-Ndaitwah, the 72-year-old candidate from the ruling South West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO), secured over 57% of the votes cast, while her closest rival, Panduleni Itula of the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC), garnered 26%.
In the National Assembly elections, SWAPO won 51 of the 96 seats, while the IPC secured 20 seats.
In his congratulatory message on Wednesday, December 4, Mnangagwa said that Nandi-Ndaitwah’s victory reflects the trust and confidence that the people of Namibia have in her leadership. He wrote:

The governing South West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO) candidate, Ndemupelila Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, has been declared the winner of Namibia’s presidential election, making her the country’s first female president.
Following last week’s contested election, Nandi-Ndaitwah (72) secured over 57% of the votes cast, while her closest rival, Panduleni Itula from the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC), received 26%.
In the National Assembly election, SWAPO won 51 of the 96 seats, while the IPC won 20 seats.
The results were announced on Tuesday evening by Elsie Nghikembua, chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN), in the capital city of Windhoek. Said Nghikembua:

In the presidential elections,15 candidates participated… by the powers vested in me as the chairperson of the ECN, [I] do hereby declare that Nandi-Ndaitwah has been duly elected the president of Namibia.

Following logistical issues and a three-day extension of polling in some areas, Itula said on Saturday that his party would not recognise the election results, citing allegations of electoral malpractice.
As a result, many opposition parties decided to boycott the results announcement.
SWAPO has been in power in Namibia, a large but sparsely populated southern African country, since 1990, when it gained independence from apartheid South Africa.
Nandi-Ndaitwah, a party stalwart and current vice president, is a trusted leader who has served in high government positions for 25 years.
Nandi-Ndaitwah was promoted to vice president from minister of foreign affairs in February after President Hage Geingob died while in office.
Once sworn in, she will join an exclusive group, as Tanzania’s Samia Suluhu Hassan is currently the only female president in Africa.
Itula, a trained dentist, is regarded as more charismatic than Nandi-Ndaitwah. He reduced SWAPO’s popularity in the 2019 presidential election, lowering its vote share from 87% to 56%.
The IPC has announced plans to seek justice through the courts and has urged people who believe they were unable to vote due to mismanagement by the electoral commission to file reports with the police.

Nandi-Ndaitwah Elected As Namibia's First Female President

Namibia opposition Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) party, which hopes to end 34 years of rule by the South West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO), has rejected the results of Wednesday’s election, whatever the outcome.
On Friday, the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) announced that polling stations that should have closed two days earlier would remain open until Saturday night.
The ECN admitted to “logistical” failures, including a shortage of ballot papers and overheating electronic tablets used to register voters, which left them standing in queues for hours.
From results from just 34 out of 121 constituencies, SWAPO had 56% of the parliamentary vote and 60% of the Presidential vote, according to a tally by the Namibian Sun.
In a statement issued on Saturday, IPC presidential candidate Panduleni Itula, who is standing against SWAPO’s Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, said the party will seek to nullify the election in the courts. Reads the statement:

Tonight, I address you as our nation faces a moment of great uncertainty. Of an unknown total of ballots cast between the 27th and today the 30th of November, only 160,000 have been counted and released.
Thousands of ballots remain locked away, their fate unknown, while polling agents across the country await orders from their superiors regarding ballots under their care to be counted and their results announced.
Polling stations, unlawfully designated as voting centres, continue processing votes under a shroud of illegitimacy.
For the first time in the history of Namibia and possibly in the history of elections, votes are being cast concurrently with vote counting and results publication.
Also, the voting process has been marred by:
<ul>
<li>Widespread disenfranchisement, with voters turned away due to a lack of ballot papers.</li>
<li>Brazen voter suppression, silencing the voices of Namibians yearning for change.</li>
<li>Undermining the Electoral Act and its tenets regarding the entire electoral process.</li>
</ul>
In light of these grave irregularities, I have consulted with the leadership of the IPC, and we have reached an unshakable decision: The IPC will not recognize or accept the outcome of this deeply flawed process. Whether the results declare a win, a runoff, or a loss, we will seek to nullify this election in the courts.
electoral malpractices are glaring, undeniable, and unacceptable. This is not about us. This is not about me. This is about Namibia.
As IPC, we stand firm in our resolve to fight alongside other parties to nullify this election. Namibians deserve the right to freely and fairly choose their leaders.
I call upon all citizens: document the irregularities. Share videos, reports, and evidence with your parties. Let us expose the truth and reclaim the integrity of our democracy.
Together, we stand for Namibia. Together, we fight for justice.

<h2>Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah</h2>
Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, 72, is not only the vice president of SWAPO but also the party’s first female presidential candidate.
She joined SWAPO in the 1960s during the party’s fight for Namibia’s independence from apartheid South Africa.
After going into exile with many other party leaders, she served as SWAPO’s representative in central and eastern Africa.
Following her studies in diplomacy in England, Nandi-Ndaitwah returned to Namibia and has held several senior roles in both SWAPO and the government.
These include serving as a minister in the portfolios of international relations, environment, and women’s affairs and child welfare.
<h2>Panduleni Itula</h2>
Panduleni Itula, a 67-year-old politician, secured 29% of the presidential vote as an independent candidate in 2019, marking the best performance by any challenger against SWAPO.
Since then, he has founded a new political party, the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC), which advocates for grassroots participatory democracy and anti-corruption. The IPC also plans to contest parliamentary seats.
Itula was a SWAPO youth leader during the fight for independence and was imprisoned by the apartheid regime.
After his release, he moved to England, where he studied and worked as a dentist for over three decades before returning to Namibia in 2013.
<h2>McHenry Venaani</h2>
McHenry Venaani is the leader of Namibia’s largest opposition party in parliament, the Popular Democratic Movement (PDM), which holds 16 out of 96 elected seats.
Venaani, 47, studied law and became the country’s youngest member of parliament in 2003.
Despite the PDM strengthening its parliamentary presence in the 2019 election, Venaani came a distant third in the presidential race with only 5% of votes.
<h2>Bernadus Swartbooi</h2>
Bernadus Swartbooi, 47, is the leader of the Landless People’s Movement (LPM), a progressive party advocating for land redistribution and restorative justice.
Swartbooi founded the LPM in 2017 after losing his job as deputy minister of land reform and leaving SWAPO.
LPM has four seats in parliament. Swartbooi won 3% of votes in the 2019 presidential election.
<h2>Job Amupanda</h2>
Job Amupanda, 37, is a former SWAPO youth leader who fell out with the party and founded a leftist political movement called Affirmative Repositioning in 2014. 
Like the LPM, the party focuses on land reform and redistribution of foreign-owned land.
Amupanda served as mayor of the capital, Windhoek, in 2021. He is also an associate professor of political science at the University of Namibia.

Namibia’s Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah could become the country’s first female president if she wins the presidential election on Wednesday, November 27.
At least 1.4 million people, or about half of the population, have registered to vote in the elections, with 15 political parties running for president and seats in the National Assembly.
Results from special early polls held for Namibia’s foreign missions, seamen and security services announced by the Electoral Commission of Namibia this month indicate that Nandi-Ndaitwah and her party, the South West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO), are in the lead.
SWAPO has governed Namibia since its independence from South Africa’s apartheid minority government in 1990.

Political analyst Henning Melber believes SWAPO and Nandi-Ndaitwah must heed the 2019 election results as a warning.

Warriors coach Michael Nees has lamented the “COVID-19 atmosphere” in which the Group J 2025 AFCON Qualifiers match between Namibia and Zimbabwe will be played at Orlando Stadium in South Africa on Thursday afternoon.
During the pandemic, football matches were played without fans to minimise virus transmission, which diminished crowd energy and negatively affected player motivation and performance.
Although Namibia is the designated home team, they chose to play the match in an empty stadium, citing financial constraints related to match-day expenses, excluding stadium rental.
However, Zimbabwean football commentators suspect that this decision is part of a strategy by the Brave Warriors to disadvantage Zimbabwe, which has many citizens residing in Johannesburg, South Africa.
During a press conference on Wednesday, Nees said the Warriors expect a tough encounter against the Brave Warriors. He said:

The Brave Warriors are set to host the Warriors at Orlando Stadium in South Africa for a Group J matchday 4 fixture in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The match, scheduled to kick off at 3 PM CAT, will be played behind closed doors.
ZIFA spokesperson Mike Madoda confirmed to <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/namibia-cite-matchday-financial-incapacitation-for-afcon-qualifier-against-zimbabwe/">Zimpapers Sports Hub</a> that the NFA has indicated their inability to cover the necessary costs. Said Madoda:

Namibia have said they can’t afford the costs for stadium security among other match day costs.
</blockquote>
However, sceptics argue that Namibia’s decision to exclude fans from the match is a tactic to prevent Zimbabwe from benefiting from the support of the “12th man.”
Many Zimbabweans living in South Africa would have been expected to attend that match in large numbers.
Fans will have the opportunity to attend the match on Tuesday when Zimbabwe plays as the home team at the same venue.
The match is scheduled to kick off at 6 PM CAT on October 14, with general admission tickets priced at R50.
Both matches will be held in South Africa, as neither Namibia nor Zimbabwe has a CAF-certified stadium suitable for hosting international games.

<h2>Why I left Namibia</h2>
I was happy to get a job in Namibia in 2020. It’s close to Zimbabwe. However, I lasted only 10 months before relocating to UK. 
Namibia is friendly and peaceful. Windhoek city is clean &amp; quiet. It has modern malls. Wide and modern roads etc.
I didn’t see a future in Namibia due to various reasons. The gvt policy towards foreigners is unfriendly. A foreigner is required to coach a local person &amp; may be used by the gvt not to renew your visa as they expect the one coached to be able to take over and do the work.
Your work permit may not be approved by gvt on renewal &amp; you are required to leave the country. There is no clear policy regarding permanent resident (PR) or citizenship. I know some people who spent more than 20 years working yet PR applications were not approved by gvt.
Spouses on dependent visa are not permitted to work unless they can secure their own work permit. If your profession is not on critical skills list &amp; you are inexperienced, you can not secure a permit. This means you cannot work. Living in Namibia becomes very difficult.
It’s expensive in terms of accomodation &amp; food, so having a non-working spouse is not an option. 2 bed flat costs R9000 depending on location. Medical aid £6500 will create shortfalls for family of 5, it means you pay cash for bills despite paying so much contributions monthly.
If you add car loan repayment, groceries, car insurance, fuel, school fees , you cannot save at all. Schools fees is paid monthly, at St Georges I was paying R6500 per child per month. Buying a house is even expensive, land is not cheap.
At some holiday resort, you are treated as a tourist for some activities. Hence, you are charged more. Opportunities are so limited that it’s difficult to get or change a job as a foreign. You will be luck to get a jobs as spouses. If you want to venture into business permits.
May not be issued to a foreign, if successful for some years, they may not renew your permits. For me, I didn’t see a future in Namibia. Consider Namibia last as an option if planning to relocate.
You may supervise locals who are not efficient at work, you end up doing the work for them without resting. I also supervised some locals who would fall ill regularly if under pressure, you would again need to cover for the lost time. I also had hardworking locals in teams.

"Why I Left Namibia" - Read This Before Moving To The Country

Namibia’s President Hage Geingob has congratulated Emmerson Mnangagwa and ZANU PF for winning the recently-held Harmonised Elections.
On Saturday, 26 August, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) chairperson Priscilla Makanyara Chigumba announced that Mnangagwa had been re-elected president.
ZEC said Mnangagwa scored 2,350,111 votes, beating CCC’s Nelson Chamisa who garnered 1,967,343 which translates to 44 percent of the vote.
On Sunday, the Namibian leader, Geingob described the 23 and 24 August Harmonised Elections as “peaceful”. In a statement, Geingob’s spokesperson, Alfredo Hengari said:

On behalf of the people and government of the Republic of Namibia, President Hage G. Geingob extended (on Sunday) 27 August 2023 warm congratulations to the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, His Excellency Comrade Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa.
President Geingob also extended through President Mnangagwa fraternal felicitations to ZANU PF, the sister party of SWAPO (the South West Africa People’s Organisation), on the victory in the peaceful harmonised elections held on August 23.
President Geingob further said that the re-election of His Excellency Comrade Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa was indeed a testimony of the trust and confidence in which the people of Zimbabwe continue to repose in President Mnangagwa and ZANU PF.
President Geingob wished President Mnangagwa good strength and wisdom in carrying out his renewed mandate and looked forward to working closely with President Mnangagwa to further deepen and strengthen our bilateral cooperation as well as advancing the shared regional development agenda.

Meanwhile, Chamisa rejected the election results announced by ZEC, insisting that he had won.

Namibia President Hage Geingob Congratulates Mnangagwa On "Peaceful" Elections

The former Counsellor Embassy of Zimbabwe in Sweden and Consul-General to Johannesburg South Africa, Melody Chaurura, is Zimbabwe’s Ambassador-Designate to Namibia.
An Ambassador-Designate is an official who has been named to be an ambassador, but who has not yet taken his oath of office.
Chaurura paid a courtesy call on President Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House in Harare this Monday before leaving the country to assume her duties in Namibia.
Addressing journalists on her mission, Chaurura said she will strive to deepen bilateral relations between Zimbabwe and Namibia. <a href="https://zbcnews.co.zw/2023/03/20/zimbabwe-namibia-relations-at-stake-as-new-diplomat-takes-charge/">ZBC News</a> quoted her as saying:

I feel very much honoured to be given this honour to serve as Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Namibia.
I look forward to broadening and deepening existing bilateral relations between the two countries, both from a diplomatic perspective and broadening economic cooperation.
</blockquote>
Zimbabwe and Namibia enjoy cordial relations and are both members of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
President Emmerson Mnangagwa appointed Chaurura as the country’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Namibia on 06 March 2023.
A general notice published in the Government Gazette at the time read:

Zim's Ambassador-Designate To Namibia Pays Courtesy Call On Mnangagwa

Namibia’s Vice President, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah could become the country’s first female president after the incumbent, Hage Geingob said she would be the ruling SWAPO party’s sole candidate in elections set to be held in 2024.
Addressing a SWAPO central committee meeting on Saturday, Geingob said all party members should rally behind Nandi-Ndaitwah when the right time comes. <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/namibias-hage-geingob-declares-nandi-ndaitwah-as-his-successor/">ZimLive </a>quoted him as saying:

We are going to have one candidate only when the time comes. That will be comrade Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.
So, let’s stop the rumours, dreams, fears and so on. The time is not here yet. The appropriate time [will come].
And we will campaign because it’s SWAPO at stake. There are a lot of things at stake. SWAPO and the country.
When you have processes, systems, and institutions, it’s not [about] an individual. It’s a question of our party and country.
Therefore, we have a person who will lead us, supported by all of us, whether you were opposed to [her]… that’s politics. It’s democracy.
You have the right to oppose, disagree or condemn a person. But when that person is elected, that’s why I kept on saying, don’t play the person, play the ball. When the game is over, you kick the ball away.
… When it’s over, it’s over. I hope we don’t go and have factions from now on. I’ve been hearing it still. It’s over. We have elected candidates.
When the time comes, we will properly campaign for her. We will do the campaign, some of us so that she is elected on behalf of SWAPO.

Nandi-Ndaitwah would be Namibia’s fourth president since the country gained independence from South Africa in 1990.
Geingob, who is serving the last of his two terms, succeeded Hifikepunye Pohamba in 2015.
Pohamba served as the second president of Namibia from March 2005 to March 2015 after taking over from the country’s first president Sam Nujoma, who ruled from 1990 to 2005.

Namibia: Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah Set To Succeed President Hage Geingob

Zimbabwe has offered Namibia one acre of land in its Pan-African Memorial Park and Museum of African Liberation Project in Liberation City, Harare.
The land is for the construction of an outdoor monument to commemorate Namibia’s emancipation from the South African apartheid government.
This was revealed by ZANU PF secretary for external relations Simbarashe Mumbengegwi, when he delivered a special message from President Emmerson Mnangagwa to Namibia’s president, Hage Geingob at State House in Windhoek on Thursday. He said:

I am pleased to say, Your Excellency, that the government of Zimbabwe is offering 4 400 square metres of space for Namibia to erect a monument commemorating Namibia’s independence from South Africa’s apartheid government. The memorial park will have a number of monuments.
We will have a world-class shopping mall within the complex, 20 hectares of an animal park, 20 hectares of an amusement park, and a heritage village in the memorial park.

On his part, Geingob hailed the project, saying it was good that Africans are telling their own stories. He said:

Sounds good. People want us to forget about our history. They are working hard trying to talk that we are backward, and we are not moving forward.
But let us not be discouraged; let’s go ahead and tell our glorious history.
I welcome it. It is a very good idea – a greeting to my brother – let’s record our history.

Zimbabwe Offers Namibia Land To Construct Liberation Monument

A Zimbabwean woman, Rutendo Zvidza, of Nkulumane suburb, Bulawayo, has opened another nursing training school in Namibia, in a city called Rundu.
Rundu is the capital of the Kavango region in north-eastern Namibia and Namibia’s second largest city.
Zvidza moved to Namibia in 2013 to work as a nurse and established her first nursing training school in Windhoek, Namibia’s capital.
Her nursing school, PMT Healthcare Institute in Windhoek, accepted its first class of students in January 2021 for a Diploma in Nursing Science and Midwifery. The students are expected to graduate early next year.
Zvidza told <a href="https://cite.org.zw/zim-nurse-opens-another-training-school-in-namibia/">CITE in an interview</a> that the new centre in Rundu will start classes in March 2023. She said:

PMT Health Care Institute has expanded to another town, Rundu, which is about 800km away from Windhoek. The centre will start classes next year in March 2023. Of late, we were busy with renovations and logistics of opening the school, which has been done. An inspection of the school has also been done.
</blockquote>
Zvidza said the training centre will offer a two-year diploma programme in Enrolled Nursing in Midwifery Science. She said:

On completion, nursing recruits are referred to as enrolled nurses. These are the nurses who will contribute to the improvement of Namibia’s and the world’s healthcare delivery systems.
</blockquote>
I am delighted that PMT Health Institute is expanding as a school and this is our second branch for the diploma in Enrolled Nursing in Midwifery Science.

… the goal of the training centre is to produce and groom nurses who are highly competent and professional in order to positively impact the hearts of all Namibians and everyone.
</blockquote>
Zvidza also revealed that PMT Health Care Institution has a sister school, Welwitchia Health Training Centre, which has university status.
She gave God credit for all her achievements to date, saying “prayer can unlock many doors.” Said Zvidza:

All this can only be through Christ that we worship. One thing for sure that I can tell you is I have managed to do this because of prayer.
I grew up in a family that was not well up, where people never thought someone like me could do something like this in life or be in a position to touch the world the way I’m doing now but by the grace of God, I never stopped praying.
I never stopped kneeling and praying to God. For real I can say that I’m an example of the wonders that God can do.
I’m still trying, little by little, to learn from the gurus who have done these things before and to follow in their footsteps.
So, at the end of the day, by grooming the best nurses, we can bring positivity to the world.

Zimbabwean Nurse Opens Another Training School In Namibia

Namibia and Botswana have agreed to lift passport requirements on their border, a first for southern Africa.
Namibian president Hage Geingob, speaking in the Botswana capital Gaborone on Friday, said nationals of the two countries would only need to produce IDs to move between the two countries. 
Geingob said, speaking during the inaugural Botswana-Namibia bi-national commission:
<blockquote>
Our two countries not only share a common border, but also a common people and heritage. A symbiotic and inter-dependent relationship exists along our common borders.
Therefore, I call on our senior officials to fast-track the implementation of the usage of Identity Documents (IDs) as travel documents between the two countries, without delay.

The development came after President Geingob’s meeting with President Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, 
Meanwhile, the development has resulted in criticism aimed at neighbouring Zimbabwe with award-winning journalist, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Hopewell_Chin%27ono">Hopewell Chin’ono</a> saying Botswana has been meeting Zimbabwean leaders but nothing tangible has materialised. In a Facebook post seen by Pindula News, Chin’ono said:

President Mokgweetsi E. K. Masisi of Botswana came to Zimbabwe and repeated the sanctions propaganda line.
But back home in Botswana whilst meeting billionaire businessman Strive Masiyiwa, he correctly said that Zimbabwe is not a safe place for investment because of lack of Rule of Law!
It is so sad that President Masisi would do this coming to Zimbabwe and playing politics with our lives lying about sanctions yet when he is home he tells the truth.
The countries around us have benefited from the lack of Rule of Law in Zimbabwe because investments go to their countries running away from Zimbabwe.
Very sad!!! At least they shouldn’t lie about why we are in this ZANUPF man-made crisis!

Namibia, Botswana Lift Passport Requirements On Their Border

Namibia’s President Hage G. Geingob and the First Lady Madame Monica Geingos tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday evening, the Office of the President announced in a statement on Thursday morning.
Both the President and First Lady are said to be in isolation and in high spirits. The statement read:
<blockquote>The Presidency would like to inform the nation that President Hage G. Geingob and the First Lady, Madame Monica Geingos tested positive for Covid-19 yesterday evening, 26 May 2021.
The President and the First Lady are in good spirits and self-isolating at their residence.
The Presidency wishes the President and the First Lady a speedy recovery.</blockquote>
Namibia had as of 27 May 2021, recorded 53 603 coronavirus cases, 789 deaths and 49 596 recoveries.
The country has administered at least 69 765 doses of COVID vaccines so far. Assuming every person needs 2 doses, that’s enough to have vaccinated about 1.4% of the country’s population.

A Namibian opposition party, the Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) has demanded that action should be taken on the unfolding humanitarian crisis in Zimbabwe.
PDM leader McHenry Venaani Wednesday wanted the National Assembly to discuss how Namibia could assist Zimbabwean citizens now classified as enemies of the state by the Zimbabwean authorities.
Vennani also wanted parliament to adopt a position as one and condemn state-sponsored violence in Zimbabwe. He said:
<blockquote>We cannot sit back and watch this travesty of justice unfold against the people of Zimbabwe.
Let me remind this august house that if Zimbabwe explodes, the economic and humanitarian crisis will be felt throughout the whole SADC region.
Hence, we have a collective responsibility to address and find a long-lasting solution to the situation in Zimbabwe.</blockquote>
However, the South West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO) party’s MPs, including international relations minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, environment minister Pohamba Shifeta and prime minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, objected to the discussion of the motion.
They said the Southern African Development Community (SADC) was already dealing with the issues of Zimbabwe.
Over the past several months, the Zimbabwean government has launched a crackdown on opposition activists, members of civil society and journalists who report on high-level corruption.

Namibian Opposition Party Calls For Action On Zimbabwean Crisis

The Namibia government has directed that the Robert Mugabe Clinic in Windhoek be closed and all health workers should vacate the premises by Sunday, to the pave way for its reopening to members of the public.
Workers at the COVID-19 testing centre have been accommodated by the Ministry of Health and Social Services since March due to their high risk of getting infected, and to avoid taking the virus home.
In a letter on Thursday, Khomas regional health director Patemoshela Hamunyela said staff were to move back home. She wrote:
<blockquote>All healthcare workers accommodated in hotels, guest houses and lodges should vacate these places by 13 September 2020.</blockquote>
A nurse at the clinic, who chose to remain anonymous, told The Namibian that staff members feel the move is a cost-saving strategy by the ministry.
The nurse added that it was not right to send them a two-day notice to vacate and go back home as this raised the risk of infection.
The clinic reopened its doors to the public at around 10 AM.

Namibia has issued a statement following “requests” from members of the media Namibian citizens to respond to issues of human rights violations in Zimbabwe.

Within SADC we have mechanisms in place established to deal with issues affecting members states in between Summits, such as regional integration, economic development, and peace and security among others.
Namibia respects the established SADC institutions, including the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Co-operation, which is mandated with the authority to take decisions and make recommendations to the SADC Summit on matters pertaining to peace and security in the region. The Walvis Bay Zimbabwe dry port is now operational, Sunday News reports. The dry port which will be manned by National Handling Service is expected to help foster regional integration according to the publication.
Confirming the developing Minister of Industry and Commerce <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Sekai_Nzenza">Sekesai Nzenza</a> said:

This follows the completion of the development of the requisite infrastructure at the Port.Government has since mandated the National Handling Services, to operationalise, manage and maintain the facility.
Key milestones for the first phase of the project have already been achieved and these include the establishment of an institutional framework as well as implementation of the business plan for the Dry Port Facility.</blockquote>

Zimbabwe Dry Port Now Operational

The Namibian government has stopped recruiting foreign nurses among them Zimbabweans with effect from today with foreign doctors now only allowed to extend their contracts to two years. However, foreign doctors and nurses appointed under Bilateral Agreements will not be affected by the new development.
Namibia’s Health Ministry said that the decision was necessitated by the fact that over 200 nursing professionals are expected to join the market by September 1, 2017 after graduating. The circular issued by Namibia’s Permanent Secretary for Health and Social Services, Dr Andreas Mwoombola reads:
<blockquote>Over 200 nursing professionals are expected to join the market by September 1, 2017 after graduating. All State hospitals will suspend the appointments or extension of contracts of non-Namibians as well as Namibians who have reached the age of 60.
As a result, all State health institutions will not renew any contracts that will be expiring as from September 1, 2017 until all young Namibian graduates are accommodated. This is precipitated by the fourth-year students who are graduating end of August 2017 at the government-run Registered Nurse Diploma Project.</blockquote>
