Norton MP Temba Mliswa has written letters to both MDC-T and Zanu-PF demanding the dissolution of Norton Town Council over allegations of incompetence and corruption. In letters dated April 27, 2017, Mliswa wrote to MDC-T secretary general Douglas Mwonzora and Zanu-PF secretary for administration Ignatius Chombo.
Part of the letter reads:
<blockquote>The issues raised in my correspondence are of an alarming nature and would certainly indicate why the Norton Town Council is perceived as grossly mismanaged and incompetent to the point of corruption being blatantly declared. Upon the findings of an investigation into the Norton Town Council (NTC)…a complete overhaul of the NTC may be required to meet the job and the electorate expectations.</blockquote>
However, in an interview with the Daily News on Sunday, Norton chairperson Precious Mufahore accused Mliswa of renting people to demonstrate against the NTC. She also threatened Mliswa with legal action if he fails to prove claims against her.

Mliswa petitions Mugabe & Tsvangirai to dissolve Norton Town Council

In a closed door meeting on Wednesday, local government minister Saviour Kasukuwere told Norton Town Councillors to ignore the town’s legislator Temba Mliswa and focus on service delivery.
Norton council chairperson Precious Mufahore confirmed that Kasukuwere had told them to go back and work in their wards and leave Mliswa. Besides approaching Kasukuwere to reign in Mliswa, the councillors also resolved to engage the police for their personal safety as they feared that he could harm them. Mliswa has however denied the Councillor’s allegations against him.

Kasukuwere tells Norton Councillors to ignore Mliswa and focus on service delivery

Officials from the Norton Town Council have said that they will be seeking protection from law enforcement officials after allegedly getting threats of violence from Norton legislator, Temba Mliswa. The councillors allege that Mliswa is seeking to undermine the local council and is attempting to take over the running of Norton Town Council.
<blockquote>Council chairperson Councillor Precious Mufahore told a Press conference yesterday:
Since he became MP for Norton, council, through its various structures has held a number of meetings with him with a view to promote and advance development in Norton, but most of the meetings have ended with threats of violence and physical harm to both councillors and its employees.
Council views these threats seriously and would like to call upon law enforcement agents to protect both councillors and employees. It is disturbing to note that the MP has of late sidelined council and wants to directly give orders to council employees on the pretext he is playing his oversight role as MP.</blockquote>
However, Mliswa refuted the allegations saying the councillors are uneducated and do not understand the role of a legislator.
