ZANU PF Secretary General Obert Mpofu has intervened in the dispute between ZANU PF Youth League Secretary Tinoda Machakaire and his deputy John Paradza over the reshuffling of the national executive council.
On December 9, 2024, Machakaire unilaterally announced the reshuffle of the ZANU PF Youth League national executive council.
Paradza responded by contending that the move was unconstitutional and advised the affected officials to remain in their positions until Mpofu provided guidance on the issue.
On December 10, Machakaire wrote to Paradza, demanding that he withdraw his circular and warning that failure to do so would result in appropriate measures being taken against him.
However, in another twist, on December 11, Mpofu wrote to Machakaire, stating that the reshuffle of the ZANU PF Youth League national executive council must be ratified by the Politburo before it could take effect.
Mpofu rebuked Machakaire for acting unilaterally, calling the move undemocratic and warning that it could create division within the Youth League and erode confidence in leadership decisions.

RE: RESHUFFLE OF THE YOUTH LEAGUE NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COUNCIL
Reference is made to the above issue and the subsequent letter addressed to the Secretary-General from the Deputy Secretary for Youth Affairs, Cde J. Paradza, dated 10 December 2024 seeking recourse on behalf of the Youth League National Executive Council over the reshuffle of the Youth League National Executive Council.
The restructuring exercise appears to have been implemented without consulting the National Assembly of the Youth League or the Youth Executive Council or securing ratification from the Politburo or Central Committee, as required by Article 26 Section 330 (2) and (3) of the 2022 Party Constitution.
The Secretary’s supervisory powers under Section 88 must be exercised within the confines of constitutional principles, which prioritize democracy and collective leadership.
Without explicit authority to remove or restructure elected positions, the directive risks being ultra vires (beyond the powers granted).
The restructuring, if perceived as unilateral and undemocratic, may create division within the Youth League and erode confidence in leadership decisions.
As such, the Youth League Secretary should have had recourse to the appropriate procedures, instead of a unilateral reshuffle as such actions, undermine democratic principles and collective leadership.
There is need to adhere to the ZANU PF Constitution, consultation, and procedural integrity so as to maintain legitimacy, unity, and respect for democratic norms.
Therefore, future decisions of this magnitude should involve thorough consultation with the relevant organs of the Youth League and formal ratification by the Politburo or Central Committee.
In addition, the rationale and procedures followed for restructuring should be clearly documented to enhance transparency and accountability.
Please be advised that, this matter will be referred to Party leadership for deliberation and guidance.

ZANU PF Secretary General Obert Mpofu told Tinoda Machakaire not to change the Youth League without permission. Machakaire did it without asking others first and upset people. Mpofu said it could cause problems. He wants all changes to be approved by the Politburo first. This way, everyone agrees on what happens. Mpofu said it's important to follow the rules and talk to others before making big decisions. If not, it can make things worse and people won't trust the leaders. The issue will be discussed more by the Party to decide what to do next.

Obert Mpofu Rebukes Machakaire For Unilateral Youth League Reshuffle

ZANU PF has expressed worry over the poor electoral performances of former liberation movements in neighbouring countries.
In an interview with <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/zanu-pf-monitoring-regional-polls/">The Herald</a>, Obert Mpofu, the ZANU PF Secretary-General, said that the party is closely following the upcoming elections in Mozambique, Namibia, and Botswana, set to take place later this year.
He claimed that former colonial powers were attempting to infiltrate the region and undermine the political dominance of these liberation movements. Said Mpofu:

That is really one area which seems to be of great concern to us. We have been meeting as former liberation movements and coming up with new ideas of really protecting ourselves from infiltration and from the colonial, irrational and detractive countries which are against us.
We are also worrying about the developments that are coming up now as a result of the democratic processes within the region.
We just had some elections recently in South Africa. We expect some elections in Mozambique, Namibia, and Botswana.
We have learnt and will be learning from those elections. But it is becoming very clear that the enemy’s hand is really in the region.

Mpofu’s comments come against the backdrop of recent electoral developments in South Africa, where the ruling African National Congress (ANC) lost its majority for the first time since the end of apartheid in the 2024 general elections held on May 29.
The ANC was forced to form a coalition government, partnering with the traditional opposition Democratic Alliance as well as other smaller political parties, to retain power after its share of the vote declined significantly compared to previous electoral cycles.
ZANU PF also failed to secure a two-thirds majority in Parliament in the 2023 general elections even though the polls were condemned by international observer missions, including SADC, as not meeting regional standards.
However, soon after the elections an unknown former MDC member Sengezo Tshabangu recalled elected opposition CCC representatives saying he was the party’s interim secretary-general.
Subsequent by-elections enabled ZANU PF to finally secure a two-thirds majority in the National Assembly, amid reports Mnangagwa intends to hang on to power beyond 2028 when his second and final term ends.

South African opposition politician Mmusi Maimane has criticised the African National Congress (ANC) for inviting Zimbabwe’s ZANU PF to campaign on its behalf ahead of the 29 May national and provincial elections.
ANC’s first deputy secretary-general, Nomvulo Mokonyane recently announced that South Africa’s ruling party had invited its Zimbabwean counterpart, ZANU PF, to campaign on its behalf, and participate as an observer mission during the elections.
Moreover, a recent report by <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/anc-invites-zanu-pf-for-mop-up-rally/">The Herald</a> claimed ZANU PF Secretary General Obert Mpofu said his party will not rule out sending teams to South Africa to assist the ANC. 
However, Maimane, who leads Build One South Africa (BOSA), said ZANU PF has a track record of rigging elections, something the ANC should not seek to emulate or support. SA's Mmusi Maimane Criticises ANC For Inviting ZANU PF To Help Campaign

“Thugs” allegedly connected to Obert Mpofu, the ZANU PF secretary for administration, have reportedly invaded the Umvucha vegetable farm near Bulawayo and are causing trouble for the owners, Troy and Tara Maidwells. The Maidwells have barricaded themselves in their home out of fear for their safety as these intoxicated thugs have surrounded their property, according to Hopewell Chin’ono.
The Umvucha farm is a significant market gardening operation that supplies vegetables to most supermarkets in Bulawayo. Chin’ono said:

Thugs allegedly linked to ZANUPF Secretary General, Obert Mpofu are harassing the Maidwells, and have invaded the private property so that they take it over.
This is a naked violation of property rights, something that has stopped foreign direct investment coming into Zimbabwe. This farm is a huge market gardening operation, it is reported that it supplies almost every supermarket in Bulawayo with vegetables. The Maidwells barricaded themselves in their house fearing for their lives after these drunk thugs surrounded their private property.

"Obert Mpofu's Thugs Have Invaded Umvucha Farm" - Hopewell Chin'ono

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has given the late football legend <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Rahman_Gumbo/">Rahman Gumbo</a> a state-assisted funeral, but there are concerns that the ruling party, ZANU PF, has hijacked the funeral arrangements.
A letter from ZANU PF’s secretary general, Obert Mpofu, referred to Gumbo as “Cde Gumbo,” a term commonly used for ZANU PF members and supporters. It seems that the party’s Bulawayo office is coordinating the funeral, even though Gumbo’s connection to the ruling party is not well-known. Mpofu wrote:

His Excellency the President and the First Secretary of Zanu PF, Cde ED Mnangagwa has conferred a state-assisted funeral to the late Cde Rahman Allen Thulani Gumbo who died on 10 November 2023. His family can be contacted through the Bulawayo provincial office.
I shall be most grateful if you would make the usual arrangements for his burial and payments of benefits to his family. He is from Bulawayo province.

Rahman Gumbo, a former football star who played for the Dream Team in the 1990s, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/11/11/former-zimbabwe-warriors-coach-and-highlanders-legend-rahman-gumbo-has-died/">passed away at the age of 59 in Botswana,</a> where he had been coaching. His body will be brought back to Zimbabwe on Thursday for burial in Bulawayo on Saturday.
Gumbo joins a growing list of celebrities, including athletes and musicians, who have been given state-assisted funerals under President Mnangagwa’s government. This list includes Ann Nhira, Stella Chiweshe, Zexie Manatsa, Gibson Mandishona, Cont Mhlanga, Elvis Mathe, Thembinkosi Mpofu, and Elvis Nyathi. However, in contrast to Gumbo, the decisions regarding the funerals of these individuals were made by the government and not by the ZANU PF party. It is customary for ZANU PF to take charge of burial arrangements for its party members.

President Mnangagwa Has Accorded Football Legend Rahman Gumbo A State-Assisted Funeral

Temba Mliswa, a former Member of Parliament (MP) for Norton Constituency, has stated that the Speaker of the National Assembly, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Jacob_Mudenda/">Jacob Mudenda</a>, must expel the ZANU PF legislators who were recalled by Tafadzwa Manyika.
Mliswa argues that according to Section 129 (1) k of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, parties have the power to recall MPs, but it is not clear who specifically should carry out the recalls. The cited section reads:

if the Member has ceased to belong to the political party of which he or she was a member when elected to Parliament and the political party concerned, by written notice to the Speaker or the President f the Senate, as the case may be, has declared that the Member has ceased to belong to it.

Temba Mliswa, a former ZANU PF official, believes that the constitution needs to be amended to provide clear guidelines on who has the authority to recall MPs from Parliament. He expresses concern about the current situation where “unknown people” are able to initiate the recall process.
This comes as the opposition <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Citizens%27_Coalition_for_Change/">Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC)</a> has <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/010/18/ccc-approaches-courts-to-reverse-mp-recalls/">taken legal action to challenge the recalling</a> of its <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/010/04/ccc-interim-secretary-general-sengezo-tshabangu-recalls-dozens-of-mps-councillors/">15 Members of Parliament (MPs) and some councillors</a> by <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Sengezo_Tshabangu/">Sengezo Tshabangu</a>, who claims to be the party’s interim Secretary-General. CCC leader <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Nelson_Chamisa/">Nelson Chamisa</a> denies Tshabangu’s membership in the party and disputes the existence of an interim or substantive post in the party.
In another development, Tafadzwa Manyika, who asserts himself as the interim Secretary-General of ZANU PF, sent a letter to Jacob Mudenda, the Speaker of the National Assembly, instructing him to recall 70 ZANU PF legislators. <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Obert_Mpofu/">Obert Mpofu</a>, a former Minister of Mines, currently holds the position of Secretary-General in ZANU PF.
These recalls have created chaos in Parliament, with MPs taking their oaths of office just a month ago. In response, the CCC has disengaged from the National Assembly, Senate, and Local Government Authorities, and has given a 14-day ultimatum for the recalls to be reversed, threatening to withdraw its members if the demands are not met. ZANU PF says it is not bothered by Manyika’s letter to Mudenda.

Mliswa Says Parliament Speaker Mudenda Has No Choice But To Recall ZANU PF MPs

ZANU PF has instructed all its party candidates who lost in the recent harmonised elections to return the high-end vehicles they were given prior to the 2023 political campaigns.
The party had distributed 210 brand new vehicles, including 4×4 Nissan Navaras and Ford Rangers, to parliamentary representatives participating in the elections. However, ZANU PF had previously warned that those who lost would be required to surrender the vehicles.
In a circular dated September 29, 2023, addressed to all provincial chairpersons, ZANU PF Secretary General <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Obert_Mpofu/">Obert Mpofu</a> emphasised that all defeated candidates must return the cars by Wednesday without exception. He wrote:

This serves as a directive to all the Zanu PF parliamentary candidates that participated and did not succeed in the just-ended harmonised elections to surrender the party vehicles that were allocated to them to the Zanu PF party headquarters by Wednesday 4 October 2023 without fail.
This is pursuant to the circular that was issued before, followed by a decision made by the party leadership at the Politburo meeting held on 28 September 2023.

ZANU PF has instructed provincial chairpersons to ensure the successful implementation of the directive. This directive will affect dozens of losing candidates. In previous elections, unsuccessful candidates were allowed to use party-issued vehicles for constituency work. It is unclear where the vehicles will be deployed, but some may be allocated to elected party officials and others may be used as pool cars at different levels. President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Emmerson_Mnangagwa/">Emmerson Mnangagwa</a>‘s party spent millions of dollars purchasing these campaign vehicles in his bid for re-election.

ZANU PF Orders Candidates Who Lost Elections To Return Campaign Vehicles

The main opposition party in Zimbabwe, the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), has expressed concern over the actions of Mr. Fikile Mbalula, a South African national and Secretary-General of the African National Congress (ANC). The party believes that Mbalula’s conduct undermines the stability and democracy of Zimbabwe. This statement comes after Mbalula stated that there would be no fresh elections, despite the CCC’s demand for them.
In a statement seen by Pindula News, the CCC called on Mbalula to act diplomatically and refrain from supporting ZANU PF in its attempts to reverse or undermine the damning report on “Zimbabwe’s flawed election” by the Southern African Development Community (SADC). Read the statement:

<h3>Mr Mbalula’s conduct undermines Zimbabwe’s stability and democracy</h3>
We note with grave concern Mr. Mbalula’s bizarre biases and proactive involvement in the ZANU PF political process. We urge Mr. Mbalula to put back his diplomatic jacket and abstain from doing the bidding for ZANU PF in trying to reverse or undermine the SADC damning report on Zimbabwe’s sham election. Mr. Mbalula’s conduct is in violation of the values and principles of democracy, pan-Africanism, and Ubuntu. We still believe that South Africa must play a key role in resolving the Zimbabwean stalemate, and Mr. Mbalula’s conduct undermines this imperative.
South Africa and indeed the rest of the region stand to benefit more from a stable Zimbabwe, not least the relief South African economy will derive from a sound political and economic atmosphere in Zimbabwe.
This would incentivize the return of the majority of our people who have sought economic sanctuary in South Africa but who are raring to return to Zimbabwe as soon as the region has completed the process of assisting Zimbabwe.
This crucial process requires sober and objective engagements between South Africa and Zimbabwean political leaders, namely President Nelson Chamisa and Mr. Mnangagwa.
It is our considered view that Zimbabwe needs to conduct a fresh, free, and fair election underwritten by SADC and AU as the only route towards political stabilization and legitimacy.
We will soon be writing formally to the ANC to remonstrate on this issue.

Some Context:
Following President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s recent “controversial re-election” in Zimbabwe, Fikile Mbalula, who remained in Harare after the low-key inauguration, expressed doubt about the possibility of fresh elections in the country. Mbalula met with his ZANU-PF counterpart, Obert Mpofu, at the ruling party’s headquarters. Despite efforts by the main opposition party, Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), led by Nelson Chamisa, to push for new elections, Mbalula stated that the likelihood of that happening was very low. Although international and regional monitors discredited the election, Mbalula emphasized that Zimbabwe is a sovereign nation responsible for determining its own fate. He said:

International observers have no mandate to cause the invalidation of polls, but whatever they would have raised will be used to perfect future elections.

After Mnangagwa’s inauguration, Mpofu expressed gratitude for the ANC’s support and stated that the administration was ready to begin working. However, the event was boycotted by African leaders, including SADC chairperson João Lourenço and Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema, who chairs the Troika Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security. This came after Chamisa decided not to pursue legal action, citing concerns of judicial bias, in his attempt to prevent Mnangagwa’s inauguration as the leader of Zanu-PF.

CCC: Mbalula's "No Fresh Elections" Remarks Undermine Zimbabwe's Stability And Democracy

Former Minister of Mines, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Obert_Mpofu">Obert Mpofu</a> has said Bulawayo, Zimbabwe’s second-largest city, has been turned into a growth point by sitting councillors who are predominantly from the opposition.
His remarks did not sit well with Bulawayo mayor <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Solomon_Mguni">Solomon Mguni</a> who accused the ZANU PF government of contributing to the collapse of the former industrial hub of Zimbabwe.
Speaking while presiding over a full council meeting Wednesday, Mguni said:
<blockquote>
We are meeting today when the city is under immense pressure, assault and insults from our political detractors,” Mguni said in his first full council meeting.
They have taken every opportunity to twist facts and doctored them to their political advantage.
One senior Matabeleland North provincial member is being quoted in the state media describing Bulawayo as having turned into a growth point.
This house must agree with this senior politician that the collapse of the city`s road network in 2021-2022 is attributed to the failure of the central government`s Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme (ERRP).
As the adage goes, statistics don’t lie. 2021-22 saw the erratic or non-disbursement of allocated ZINARA funds, some which were diverted towards the government`s ERRP.

This saw 18 Bulawayo roads taken over by the Department of State Roads, CMED and various associated contractors under the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development.
Out of the 18 roads, only three of them were completed while twelve of the said roads are at zero per cent.
Mguni urged councillors to speak with one voice in urging the central government to disband the ERRP “which has had a deleterious effect on the city maintenance road efforts.”

"Bulawayo Has Been Turned Into A Growth Point" - Obert Mpofu

ZANU PF’s secretary for administration Obert Mpofu has expressed gratitude to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who is ZANU PF’s president and first secretary, for reappointing him to the Politburo.
Mnangagwa reappointed Mpofu to his post, as well as national political commissar Mike Bimha, secretary for finance Patrick Chinamasa, and secretary for security Lovemore Matuke.
He also announced Mabel Chinomona as the women’s league leader and Douglas Mahiya as chairman of the war veterans league.
Mpofu wrote an open letter in a State-controlled weekly publication, praising Mnangagwa and also congratulating him for his recent reelection. He said:

The Bulawayo High Court has ordered ZANU PF-linked NUST lecturer Dumisani Madzivanyathi to pay US$340 000 to Esidakeni farm owners in Nyamandlovu in Matebeleland North.
Madzivanyathi and ZANU PF Secretary for Administration, Obert Mpofu have refused to vacate the property despite <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/esidakeni-farm-wrangle-supreme-court-upholds-order-to-evict-obert-mpofu/">two Supreme and High Court orders for them to do so.</a>
Madzivanyathi, who has businesses in Bulawayo, was sometime this year ejected from the property by the Deputy Sheriff but defied the move.
Simposami Malunga and his two partners Zephaniah Dhlamini and businessman Charles Moyo were forced to approach the High Court after Madzivanyathi allegedly tampered with the irrigation system and deprived water to various crops, which later wilted.
Madzivanyathi was then ordered to pay nearly US$340 000, NewZimbabwe.com reported citing High Court judge Justice Martin Makonese’s judgment. Reads part of Justice Makonese’s judgment:

It is ordered that defendant pay the plaintiffs the amount of US$339 660.00 (three hundred and thirty nine six hundred and sixty thousand United States Dollars) or the equivalent amount in Zimbabwean dollars at the applicable interbank rate on the date of payment, interest on the above amount at the rate of 58 per annum, costs of suit.

Malunga and his partners had argued that they lost 150 000 planted tomatoes and 65 000 butternut crops as a result of the defendant’s disruptions at the farm.
They also accused Mpofu of stealing farm produce at the farm.
Esidakeni farm has been at the centre of an ownership battle after the Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Water, and Rural Resettlement Anxious Masuku allocated part of the land to Mpofu and other beneficiaries.
Malunga and partners argue that Masuka’s conduct was in violation of laws which forbid the seizure of land owned by black farmers.

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Oppah_Muchinguri">Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri</a> was also <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/president-mnangagwa-appoints-new-central-committee-and-politburo-members/">reappointed</a> as National Chairperson, completing the party’s four-member Presidium.

ZANU PF secretary for administration, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Obert_Mpofu">Obert Mpofu</a> has said victims of the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Gukurahundi">Gukurahundi</a> killings do need development, not a reminder of their painful history.
Gukurahundi is a term used to refer to killings in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Matabeleland" title="Matabeleland">Matabeleland</a> and <a class="mw-redirect" href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Midlands" title="Midlands">Midlands</a> in the 1980s which resulted in the death of an estimated 20 000 people. 
It was carried out by the North Korean trained <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/5th_Brigade" title="5th Brigade">5th Brigade</a> which was an elite regiment of the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Defence_Forces" title="Zimbabwe Defence Forces">Zimbabwe Defence Forces</a>. Gukurahundi is derived from a Shona language term which loosely translates to “the early rain which washes away the chaff before the spring rains”.
The nation has so far failed to find an everlasting solution to the issue with the Unity Accord signed by Zimbabwe’s two major nationalist movements namely the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_African_People%27s_Union" title="Zimbabwe African People's Union">Zimbabwe African People’s Union</a> led by <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Joshua_Nkomo" title="Joshua Nkomo">Joshua Nkomo</a> and the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_African_National_Union" title="Zimbabwe African National Union">Zimbabwe African National Union</a> led by <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Robert_Mugabe" title="Robert Mugabe">Robert Mugabe</a> only managing the situation thus far.
Speaking in Jotsholo on Saturday, 28 May 2022 at the burial of a traditional leader, <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/05/27/chief-mabhikwa-granted-state-assisted-funeral/">Chief Vusumuzi Khumalo Mabhikwa of Lupane</a>, Mpofu said everyone talking about Gukurahundi was not a nation-builder. He said:

Gukurahundi: People Need Development, Not Reminder Of Painful Things - Mpofu

Zephaniah Dhlamini who is a business partner of OSISA Siphosami Malunga was physically attacked by East 68 Bar &amp; Grill owner Dumisani Madzivanyati, during a farm row.
The farm is owned by Malunga and peers but the state has moved to seize it to reallocate it to other suitors.
Dhlamini was Wednesday allegedly attacked with a log by Madzivanyati, who has invaded the 553-hectare property in Nyamandlovu, Matabeleland North, after its controversial acquisition by the government in December last year.
The two are lecturers at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) – Dhlamini being director of the Applied Genetics Testing Center while Madzivanyati teaches in the business department.
Madzivanyati was also accused of threatening to shoot a man in 2017.

Malunga condemned the attack on his partner, vowing that the government will have to kill them to take the farm adding that they are making a report to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) on the assault. Malunga who is a lawyer and human rights defender said:
<blockquote>_We hold Richard Moyo [Matabeleland North provincial minister] and those he is working with criminally liable. We will now have to defend ourselves against physical attacks too._</blockquote>
He said lands officers who were parcelling out their farm had allegedly come with specific instructions from Moyo to target their flourishing produce.
He tweeted alleged pictures of Madzivanyati on the property, saying that the ZANU PF supporter, “who also runs E68 Bar &amp; Grill in Leeside, Bulawayo, whose car you can see parked inside the field attacked Zeph Dhlamini with a log.”
Malunga says the seizure is retribution by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s regime for his human rights advocacy.
Government, however, argues it acquired the land from a white farmer years ago “for purposes of agriculture resettlement” and that Malunga doesn’t own it.

Richard Moyo, the Provincial Affairs minister for Matabeleland North is reportedly in isolation after he tested positive for COVID-19, The Standard reports.
This was revealed by Moyo himself when he told CITE that:
<blockquote>I am self-isolating at home, but for now I am not feeling any pain and I am still asymptomatic, but I am taking as much as possible caution while at home.</blockquote>
This comes a few short days after the Health and Child Care ministry’s director of epidemiology and diseases control, Dr. Portia Manangazira told the National Practitioners Association annual general meeting in Karoi that a second wave of the virus was a possibility given the statistics being recorded daily:
<blockquote>Covid-19 is still with us for the next two or three years.
We must wear masks, regularly sanitise for our own good health. We must share information and researches so that we get solutions. Scientifically, efforts are being made to find medication.
As Zimbabwe we remain on the forefront to do the best out of it and help get medication with traditionalists playing a critical role for medication.
Let us value our cultural ways so that we can collaborate and make researches that can be accepted globally to cure Covid-19.</blockquote>

Richard Moyo Tests Positive For COVID-19

ZANU PF secretary for administration Obert Mpofu and his wife Sikhanyisiwe, a Matabeleland North Senator, are said to be in a stable condition after they both tested positive for coronavirus.
According to the party’s acting spokesman Patrick Chinamasa, the couple is self-isolating separately in Harare.

Mpofu and his wife are the latest high-profile figures to contract the virus, after the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Finance, George Guvamatanga was hospitalised for an extended period of time due to COVID-19.
The disease has been blamed for the death of freelance journalist Zororo Makamba in March; lands and agriculture minister Perrance Shiri in July and ZBC reporter Janet Makamba on Saturday.

Obert Mpofu, Wife 'Stable' After Contracting Corona

ZANU PF Secretary for Administration and former Minister Obert Mpofu and wife Sikhanyisiwe have reportedly been hospitalised after testing positive for COVID-19.
Bulawayo24News cited Government and party sources saying Mpofu was the first to be admitted to hospital and his wife followed.
The publication said efforts to get a comment from Mpofu and ZANU PF acting spokesperson Patrick Chinamasa were fruitless.
In August this year, Mpofu and the ZANU PF Secretary for External Affairs Simbarashe Mumbengegwi, who are both members of the Politburo, were quarantined after they visited Tanzania.
Mpofu was part of a delegation that attended the conference for global political parties where he was representing ZANU PF.
Speaking from Nyamandlovu, where he was in self-quarantine at the time, Mpofu said:
<blockquote>It is not easy to stay away from the people you love, but when you love them that much, you keep your distance for their safety. I tested negative on arrival and I am waiting for a second test after eight days.</blockquote>

Obert Mpofu Hospitalised After Contracting Coronavirus - REPORT

Zanu PF secretary for administration Obert Mpofu has written about his reasons why he joined the liberation struggle at a tender age. Mpofu who says he was a teenager when he joined ZAPU forces to fight for freedom has written an autobiography titled: On the Shoulders of Struggle: Memoirs of a Political Insider in which he claims he had nothing to lose when he joined Chimurenga because his father had died at the hands of the imperialists.
Mpofu penned:
<blockquote>In 1967, at the age of 16, I went through the arduous experience of the liberation struggle. Young as I was, I had made a resolute decision to fight for the liberation of my dear motherland. Breaking the system that kept the captivity of our people intact was the most revolutionary thing to do. Some of my immediate family members and some individuals in my community were already involved in mainstream politics. My uncle Solomon ‘’Mzethi’’ Mpofu, my father’s brother and my auntie’s husband, Mlobisi Sibanda, were among the top ZAPU contacts in our village.
Our homestead hosted regular ZAPU meetings at the time. Apart from this immediate family connection to ZAPU through the meetings hosted at our home as early as 1964, my involvement in the liberation struggle was broadly inclined to the emotive quest for liberation of the Black majority. Uncle Solomon and Mlobisi both had a high degree of political consciousness which ignited strong patriotic zeal in me.In 1965, when I was in Standard 5, I was involved in the periodical collection and supply of The Zimbabwe Times which was published in Zambia.
The Zimbabwe Times was a pro-ZAPU publication which was circulated to party loyalists. Apart from being involved in the distribution of this ZAPU publication, I was involved in frontline collaborator activities whenever I crossed to Zambia with my peers. At one point I was detained with my cousin Albert Sibanda for crossing over to Zambia with expired passes. We were only released after comrades in Lusaka intervened and secured our release. My passion for politics grew. In the process, the search for radical actualisation in military activity resulted in my decision to be finally conscripted into ZPRA in 1967.
My father had died after succumbing to excessive torture in the hands of the cruel colonial regime. Therefore, I had no fear of losing my life in the hands of those who had caused my father’s death. Ultimately, each one of us had a valid personal reason to fight the enemy. Our different objections to the colonial system climaxed in the resolve to break the bondage.
Joining the liberation struggle was the most virtuous decision that any politically conscious person could make. It was the most honourable thing to do. During holidays, with other teenagers at the time, we would covertly cross to Livingstone, Zambia. There alongside others, I received early reconnaissance grooming which later formed the science of information extraction about the activities of the enemy. These routine trips to Zambia were mainly coordinated by Luke Mhlanga and Pepezela Ncube. There we were equipped with the ability to spy on the activities of the Rhodesians and their military formations. From this rudimentary state of reconnaissance, my role developed into sophisticated forms of military intelligence to guide the nationalist military strategy. In the process of the mission to liberate our country, I felt the assurance of having regained my humanity and the dignity of our people which had been long lost in the hands of colonial repression.
At the time, Zambia was the sanctuary for liberation movements. It was in Zambia that we met ANC’s Umkhonto weSizwe guerillas and received extensive military training in preparation for the protracted guerilla warfare against settler rule. The anti-apartheid cause of the people of South Africa was synonymous with the anti-colonial predisposition of our people in Rhodesia. As a result, we were unified by common aspirations for self-determination as the then colonised people of the South to fight for our rightful place in humanity.
Zambia provided a Pan-African fraternal link to the cause of our liberation movements. We would bring back home newspapers published at the time in support of the armed struggle. This way, we were able to carve a political consciousness which aided in justifying the cause of the war against Rhodesia amongst our people. All these activities were in preparation of the 1967 Wankie Battle. Tanzania was another home for the revolutionary cause. In 1968, I received military training in Morogoro Tanzania. I was part of the second ZPRA cohort to train in Tanzania. The pioneer group had been trained in 1967. The advanced military training I received in Tanzania further heightened my conviction to the cause of Zimbabwe’s liberation. Thereafter, I was geared to take part in the Sipolilo Battle.
Background to the Wankie Battle of 1967 
The African National Congress (ANC) had opened an office in Lusaka in 1965, a year after Zambia became independent. The alliance between Zambia’s independent Government under Kenneth Kaunda and the ANC offered a practical manifestation of the Pan-Africanist cause. Zambia’s political big-brother status afforded the then liberation aspiring Southern Rhodesia and apartheid South Africa political mentorship on the needed revolutionary processes to collapse White monopoly rule. ZAPU had already established a camp for ZPRA recruits in the surrounding area of Kongwa in Tanzania.
The Kongwa camp also hosted: 
ANC: African National Congress; FAPLA: People’s Armed Forces of Liberation of Angola (Portuguese: Forças Armadas Populares de Libertação de Angola); FRELIMO: Mozambique Liberation Front and the PAIGC: African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde.
De facto diplomatic negotiations to create a military alliance between ZPRA and Umkhonto weSizwe had begun in 1966. 
The ANC assigned Chris Hani to undertake a feasibility investigation on the possibilities of military cooperation between ZPRA and Umkhonto weSizwe. The proposed military pact between our ZPRA and Umkhonto weSizwe received an endorsement from the newly independent governments of Tanzania and Zambia. The outcome was the joint military pact which aided in the initiation of the famous Wankie Battle. ZAPU was already headquartered in Zambia by 1964. The widespread support of the two liberation movements aided the execution of the joint military campaign. The union between ZPRA and Umkhonto weSizwe was also founded on the shared historically compelling factors of the fight against imperialism in both Zimbabwe and South Africa.
Beyond, the pro-ZPRA interests, the ZAPU-ANC alliance was aimed at aiding the Umkhonto weSizwe forces who had been trained in Zambia and Tanzania. Rhodesia provided an easy passage for the Umkhonto weSizwe forces to execute their military activity in South Africa. From a strategic point of view, Rhodesia could be easily infiltrated by the Umkhonto weSizwe troops. Therefore, it made significant sense for the ANC troops to take part in the ZPRA offensive missions as they sought a passage entry in transit to South Africa.
Another strategic merit of this alliance was not only the convenience of Rhodesia as an appropriate passageway for the South African guerrillas. Rhodesia harboured a politically attuned majority similar to our fellow Black majority across the Limpopo. The harmonious cultures of the oppressed majority in Rhodesia particularly in Matabeleland with those of Zulu, Sotho and Xhosa people in South Africa also justified the eyed fortunes of this military expedition. The Rhodesian passage back home to South Africa, therefore, implied ease of communication for the Umkhonto weSizwe troops.
On the other hand, Botswana was a non-starter for a possible transit down South. Botswana had been served with an instruction by the South African Government to suspend its assistance to any of the liberation movements and, if possible, crush their military activities. Consequently, Botswana had the predicament of showing non-alignment to the cause of any liberation movement. On one end, Botswana could not afford to ignore the popularity of the liberation cause in Rhodesia and South Africa.
However, its economic dependency on the Rhodesia-South Africa railway lines bent it into submission to the dictates of the two colonial Governments. That economic survival was uppermost in Botswana’s administrative logic became more evident after the Sipolilo Battle when some guerrillas were arrested in the country. To sustain the temporary benefits of its proximity to the apartheid South African and the Rhodesian regimes, Botswana had to keep its distance from the liberation movements’ activities. In the interest of political-economic survival, Botswana had to stick to more diplomatic ties with colonial powers in South Africa and Rhodesia. This became more evident after the Sipolilo Battle when some guerrillas were arrested in Botswana. In the foundational stage of the ZPRA military conscription, young revolutionaries who took up military training in Zambia went through Botswana. Therefore, Botswana was heavily infiltrated by Rhodesian forces.
Participation in the Wankie Battle 
I was among the ZPRA and Umkhonto weSizwe reconnaissance teams along the Jambezi-Victoria Falls, Lupane and Tsholotsho routes. The 1967 famous Wankie Battle was a culmination of these reconnaissance initiatives. Through reconnaissance, we coordinated the movement of the armed troops who waged a war that wobbled the entire Rhodesian and South African security forces. This mission was an outgrowth of joint political and military synergy between the two liberation movements. Oliver Tambo of the ANC and James Chikerema of ZAPU chaired the political coordination of this pact. At a military operational level, Akim Ndhlovu (ZPRA commander) and Joe Modise (MK Commander) were all at the leading front. The late Dumiso Dabengwa of ZAPU was the Chief of Intelligence. Among some Umkhonto weSizwe military gurus there was Archie Sibeko (Chief of Operations), Eric Tshali, (Chief of Staff), Walter Mavuso Msimang (MK Chief of Communications) and Chris Hani (Political Commissar).
The inaugural joint offensive by the ZPRA and the Umkhonto weSizwe was carried out on the 13th of August in 1967 on the banks of the Inyantuwe River. This meant that the Wankie and Dete area became a protracted guerrilla firing zone which saw the Rhodesian forces’ conceding to our vicious attack. Realising the intense combat effect of the joint assault of the ZPRA and Umkhonto weSizwe, the Rhodesia Government solicited the assistance of the South African apartheid forces.
It was clear that the guerrillas had successfully infused this area in a way that posed as a tremendous future threat to the Rhodesian defence force. The South African Government responded to Rhodesia’s request for military support. A determined group of soldiers were unleashed to assist in gathering intelligence. This resulted in swift military intervention by the South African forces, but it was all clear that the Rhodesians’ military power was at its weakest point and was certainly beyond possible recuperation.
After Inyantuwe, we also had other major battles at Sinamathela, Tsholotsho and along the Natha and Tekwane river areas. The Tekwane Battle marked an end to the Wankie Campaign which saw the enemy being derailed and decimated. The next port of call was the Sipolilo Campaign. On the other hand, some troops landed themselves into the hands of Botswana security forces. There they met their fate. They were imprisoned before being deported back to Zambia.</blockquote>

ZANU PF secretary for administration, Obert Mpofu has dismissed reports which say the governing party is rocked by factionalism.
Mpofu was speaking to Open Parly during an online question and answer session during which he was asked to validate reports saying there are factions in Zanu PF one led by President Mnangagwa and the others by the two vice presidents. Mpofu responded:

Former Mines Minister Obert Mpofu has claimed that he was wrongfully accused of engaging in corruption by people within and outside his ruling party, ZANU PF.
Mpofu has for years been accused of corruption and recently, the ZANU PF Youth League named him among corrupt people in the country who are “choking efforts by president Mnangagwa to revive the collapsed economy.”
Responding to Open Parly question during an online question and answer session on Thursday which sought to establish why he is being targeted by anti-corruption crusaders, Mpofu denied the allegations. He said:

Obert Mpofu, the secretary for administration for the ruling ZANU PF has said the #ZimbabweanLivesMatter movement speaks to the reason why ZANU PF was formed.
The online movement was initiated in response to the deepening governance and human rights crisis in the country with government officials and state security agents identified as the main culprits.

Zanu PF Secretary for Administration Obert Mpofu has officially become a Twimbo as he officially opened a Twitter account, Sunday News reports.
Mpofu who can be reached on his official handle @DrObertMpofu said he was on Twitter to counter fake news and emphasized the need to follow where the people are:

Due to the COVID-19 crisis we find ourselves disengaged from the people. So social media gives us room to make contact with people and have blow to blow exchanges on important national issues.
So the idea is to use this space to share authentic information on issues surrounding our politics and information on the economy. Our absence here has caused national debate to be arrogated by reactionaries and imperialist handled propagandists
We need to be where the young and the old are. Our national debates are on such platforms and as the Secretary for Administration of the ruling and a prominent party of liberation, it’s imperative for me to engage all Zimbabweans across the political and ideological divide.</blockquote>
Mpofu also spoke about his time during quarantine and dismissed reports that he was bedridden in quarantine and said he was not bedridden while encouraging people to be tested for COVID-19 regularly.

Obert Mpofu Comes To Twitter

Another politburo member Simbarashe Mumbengegwi is in quarantine after he reportedly attended a conference in Tanzania, The Herald reports.
Mumbengegwi who is the ruling party’s Secretary for External Affairs joins <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/07/21/covid-19-obert-mpofu-in-quarantine/">Obert Mpofu who is also in quarantine after attending the same conference with Mumbengegwi. </a>
The matter came to light during a politburo meeting in which President Mnangagwa said:
<blockquote>The party’s Secretary for Administration Dr Mpofu and his counterpart Cde Mumbengegwi could not make it to this Politburo meeting today (Wednesday) because they are in self-quarantine after they visited Tanzania recently</blockquote>
When contacted for comment, Mumbengegwi confirmed he was in quarantine and said he was reading to pass the time:
<blockquote>I am in self-quarantine at home here in Harare. I am just following the WHO guidelines. We don’t want to take chances. I am doing a lot of reading.</blockquote>

Mumbengegwi In Quarantine After Attending A Global Conference In Tanzania

ZANU PF secretary for administration, Obert Mpofu has self-quarantined following his trip to Tanzania. Mpofu told CITE that he will only get out of quarantine after retesting for the virus after eight days of isolation.
The health ministry directed that individuals coming from countries hard hit by the virus need to be quarantined for at least 8 days.
Speaking to CITE, Mpofu claimed that he was rigorously tested on his way to and from Tanzania. He said:
<blockquote class="wp-block-quote">I am in quarantine as we speak. I recently came back from Tanzania and will be in quarantine until the eighth day (for the second round of tests).
After the rigorous screening I am now actually waiting for Day Eight, after which I will be re tested.
Covid-19 is unfriendly to us senior people, that is why I have to be careful.</blockquote>
This comes when the number of confirmed cases in the country is rapidly rising, a development that forced the <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/07/21/president-emmerson-mnangagwa-announces-strict-lockdown-regulations/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">government to review lockdown regulations</a>.
Social gatherings have been banned again while tertiary institutions that had been allowed to reopen have now been ordered to close again.

COVID-19: Obert Mpofu In Quarantine

The ruling ZANU PF party’s politburo is set to meet on Wednesday at the party’s headquarters in Harare.
This was revealed in a statement by the party’s secretary for Information and Publicity <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Simon_Khaya_Moyo" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Simon Khaya Moyo</a>. He said:
<blockquote>The Secretary for Administration Cde <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Obert_Mpofu" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Obert Mpofu</a> wishes to advise all members that there shall be a Politburo meeting to be held on Wednesday 5 February 2020 at the Party Headquarters commencing 1000hours. All members should be seated by 0945hours sharp.</blockquote>
The meeting comes at a time when there is some strife within the party, with some Youth League members who are in the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zanu-PF_Politiburo" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Politburo</a> accusing several businesspeople closely linked to the ruling party, of corruption and sabotaging the country’s economy.

Reports claiming that Defence and War Veterans Affairs Minister <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Oppah_Muchinguri" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri</a> has been nominated ZANU PF co-vice president by the provinces have been categorically refuted by the party’s Secretary for administration, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Obert_Mpofu" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Obert Mpofu</a>.
Speaking to NewZimbabwe.com on Tuesday, Mpofu characterised the reports as a “myth”. He said:
<blockquote>How can you believe such a myth? We don’t have such.
Our nominations are done by all provinces and it is about the president nobody else.</blockquote>
Social media reports had suggested that Muchinguri and Tshinga Dube, a retired army colonel, are set to replace Vice Presidents Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi.

Obert Mpofu Dismisses Muchinguri VP Nomination 'Myth'

ZANU PF secretary for administration, Obert Mpofu has said that the ruling party’s People’s Conference which starts on Thursday at Goromonzi High School, Mashonaland East will focus on bread and butter issues.
Speaking to the Daily News in an exclusive interview on Monday, Mpofu said that the conference had already begun in Harare with the politburo setting the tone for the indaba. He said:
<blockquote>The economy is our major focus. We are going to review our performance in this area. We will talk about the issues of prices and basic commodities that people have been grappling with and will come up with a lasting solution.</blockquote>
The conference comes when Zimbabwe is facing a number of challenges including electricity shortages, inflation, fuel shortages, scarcity of foreign currency and severe starvation.
Economic growth has slowed down and living standards have increasingly become poor as the general populace can no longer afford basic commodities due to erosion of salaries by the soaring inflation.

Policies to improve people’s livelihood and grow the economy are expected to be discussed at the imminent Zanu PF’s congress according to Obert Mpofu Sunday Mail reports.
The publication quoted DR <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Obert_Mpofu">Obert Mpofu</a> who is part of the organisers and asked him about the main theme and aim for the congress DR Mpofu said:
<blockquote>….We understand the challenges facing the country in terms of prices of basic commodities.
As you aware, the President (Emmerson Mnangagwa) recently directed the return of subsidies. We are sensitive to the plight of our people that after this conference it will be all systems go, for the betterment of the life of our people.</blockquote>
DR Mpofu was speaking in reference to the party’s annual which kicks off this week. 7000 delegates are expected to attend and the 5-day event will start with a politburo meeting according to the publication.
