The government has started the process of assessing the readiness of Zimbabwe’s land borders to assist travelers leaving and entering the country in preparation to reopen borders after closing them 6 months ago due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Daily News reports.
The matter came to light during a post-cabinet briefing when the Defence and War Veterans Minister who also doubles as the Covid-19 national taskforce chairperson Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri said they have started the process of assessing the facilities in preparation to reopen borders:
<blockquote>
Today (yesterday), we resolved to send a team to all ports of entry into the country to establish whether we are prepared to open up beyond just our airports. If we come up with a report which is scientific and protects Zimbabweans, we won’t hesitate to reopen the borders.I cannot give you the date until we are wholly satisfied. We will leave no stone unturned to protect our people</blockquote>
The government resolved to keep borders closed indefinitely despite reopening airports for international travelers. However, according to CAAZ, traffic is increasing at international airports and 5 airlines namely Kenya Airways, RwandAir, Fastjet, Starlink, and Ethiopian Airlines have resumed operations and they are flying in and out of Harare and Victoria Falls and Bulawayo airports.

Govt Prepares To Reopen Borders

Zimbabwe’s Minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairs, Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri has dismissed reports which suggest that the country deployed its army to fight “the Islamic terrorist group” in neighbouring Mozambique.
Her statement comes after some government critics had already criticised the government for the “costly,” and “illogical move.” She said in a statement:
<blockquote>The Ministry of Defence would like to inform the public that it is not true that the ZDF deployed troops in Mozambique to fight some armed elements destabilising that country. The deployment allegations are not only outright falsehoods but malicious, hence fake news should be dismissed with the contempt they deserve.</blockquote>
Some government critics were saying that the government risked worsening the economic and humanitarian crisis in the country as it did when it deployed troops to the Democratic Republic of Congo. 
Others were saying that the government was putting the lives of the citizenry in danger as the terror group would attack Zimbabwe in retaliation.

Zimbabwe's Defence Minister Speaks On Alleged Deployment Of Army To Mozambique

The government is drafting a law that will legalise paying compensation packages to war collaborators. This was revealed by the Minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairs, Oppah Muchinguri during a ZANU PF rally held in Gweru last weekend. She said:
<blockquote>We are in the process of putting together a Bill that will legalise compensation of the war collaborators.
Cabinet has already approved the idea and asked us to come up with a Bill.
At the moment, we have put together the principles of the Bill and are now working on the other issues that should be in the Bill.
Once we are done drafting the Bill, we will take it to the Cabinet Committee on legislation, which will work on it and that can take about two weeks.
The committee will then send it back to Cabinet for approval, then we take it to Parliament.
So, all in all, we must be having the Bill in a month’s time.</blockquote>
Meanwhile, the MDC has warned Muchinguri that the country is in an economic spiral which makes it difficult to make the huge payouts. MDC spokesperson, Daniel Molekele said:
<blockquote>We need to be careful in having such large expenditures. So, the issue is about how practical it is in these circumstances. That is something the minister needs to be careful of and give serious consideration.</blockquote>

Govt To Compensate War Collaborators - Muchinguri

The Minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairs, Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri on Monday met the United States Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Brian Nichols.
They discussed necessary reforms for building stronger partnerships between the United States Military and the Zimbabwe Defence Forces. In a social media post on Tuesday morning, the US embassy said:
