Twitter’s new owner Elon Musk appeared to have deleted a tweet posted on Sunday referencing an unfounded theory regarding the attack on the husband of U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi at their San Francisco home.
The since-deleted tweet was in response to one by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who blamed the attack on hateful rhetoric by the Republican Party.
Clinton linked the attack to an L.A. Times story about how the suspect promoted far-right conspiracy theories online, <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/us/elon-musk-deletes-tweet-with-unfounded-theory-about-pelosi-attack-2022-10-30/?taid=635ef9c0be9c930001890192&amp;utm_campaign=trueAnthem:+Trending+Content&amp;utm_medium=trueAnthem&amp;utm_source=twitter">Reuters news agencies</a> reported.
Musk replied to Clinton, linking to a site called the Santa Monica Observer:

Fact-checkers have described Santa Monica Observer as a purveyor of hoaxes, including that Clinton herself died on September 11 and has since been replaced by a lookalike, according to The Associated Press.
With fears growing of increasing political violence ahead of the November 8 midterm elections, Musk’s tweet prompted fresh concerns about how he will handle hate speech and misinformation on the social media platform, which the outspoken Tesla CEO <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/worlds-richest-man-buys-twitter/">purchased last week for $44 billion.</a>
The suspect in the Pelosi attack, David DePape, is due to be charged on Monday with multiple felonies for allegedly clubbing Paul Pelosi over the head with a hammer on Friday after forcing his way into the couple’s home shouting “Where is Nancy?”

Paul Pelosi Attack: Elon Musk Responds To Hillary Clinton Referencing Unfounded Theory

Paul Pelosi, the husband of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has undergone surgery for a skull fracture and other severe injuries to his right arm and hands after being attacked on Friday morning by a male assailant, CNN reported.
In a statement, the US House Speaker expressed gratitude and thanked people for the outpouring of support and prayers following the deadly attack on Paul Pelosi. A statement released by Speaker Nancy Pelosi said:

Paul Pelosi underwent surgery Friday “to repair a skull fracture and serious injuries to his right arm and hands.

Deputy Chief of Staff and spokesperson Drew Hammill, added:

The Pelosi family is immensely grateful to Mr Pelosi’s entire medical team and the law enforcement officers who responded to the assault.
Paul Pelosi is expected to make a full recovery, it read.

Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden described the attack on Pelosi’s husband as “despicable.” Biden told a fundraising dinner Friday in Philadelphia:

This is despicable. There’s no place in America — there’s too much violence, political violence. Too much hatred. Too much vitriol. 
</blockquote>
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre in an official statement condemned the attack against Paul Pelosi and said that the prayers are with Speaker Pelosi’s whole family.
She further stated that the US President is also praying for Paul Pelosi and also had a morning call with House Speaker Pelosi to express his support after this horrible attack.
US Vice President Kamala Harris also had a call with Nancy Pelosi after Pelosi’s husband, Paul, was attacked with a hammer at the couple’s home in San Francisco. She called the attack an “act of extreme violence,” CNN reported.
The attacker was a male assailant who also tried to tie up Pelosi’s husband during the attack as the attacker was waiting for Nancy to arrive home.
According to analysts, the US speaker is second in line to become the US President after the Vice President in case the President is incapacitated.
