Sakunda Holdings has unveiled a remarkable US$1.5 million per season sponsorship package for the newly promoted Premier Soccer League (PSL) side, Scottland Football Club, for the next five years.
This package marks the biggest single sponsorship by an individual organisation to a single club in the league’s history.
Sakunda, which also sponsors Dynamos and Highlanders with US$1 million per season each, will provide Scottland with playing, training, and travel kits on a regular basis.
Sakunda Holdings has also committed to aiding the construction of Scottland’s proposed 15,000-seater stadium in Mabvuku.
The energy company, owned by Kuda Tagwirei, will facilitate visits for Scottland officials to three world-class stadiums of their choice, enabling them to gather insights for their own stadium project.
Moreover, both the Scottland coach and captain will receive top-of-the-range cars, similar to the arrangements Sakunda Holdings has with Dynamos and Highlanders.
Speaking during the unveiling of the sponsorship agreement on Thursday, December 19, Tagwirei said:

Scottland president Pedzai “Scott” Sakupwanya said the sponsorship package will enable the club to attract top-tier players and coaches. He said:

Sakunda Holdings Unveils US$1.5 Million Sponsorship To Scottland

England-based Warriors captain Marvelous Nakamba has praised Scottland Football Club owner Pedzai “Scott” Sakupwanya for his financial contributions to local football, which have transformed the lives of many players.
In the recently concluded Northern Regional Soccer League (NRSL) season, Sakupwanya, a gold dealer with close ties to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, rewarded his players with generous winning bonuses, paying as much as US$1,500 per match. He also promised each player US$10,000 if they achieved promotion to the top flight.
Sakupwanya’s associate, Wicknell Chivayo, further rewarded the players by giving each of them a Toyota Aqua vehicle for winning the NRSL title.
However, Scottland FC is still awaiting confirmation of its promotion to the Premier League next season, pending the outcome of an appeal by Karoi United to ZIFA.
Nakamba, who plays for Luton Town in England’s Championship, believes the substantial financial support provided by Sakupwanya will significantly uplift local footballers, offering them better opportunities and a brighter future. In anticipation of their participation in the top-flight league next season, Scottland FC has reportedly strengthened their squad by signing Highlanders duo Peter Muduhwa and Lynoth Chikuhwa, along with the Moyo twins, Elvis and Kelvin, from Dynamos.
Nakamba believes Scottland’s significant financial investment will inspire other clubs to elevate their standards, offering improved remuneration and bonuses to players to remain competitive. He said:

Chivayo is a highly controversial figure known for his lucrative business dealings—largely through state tenders and contracts.
Sakupwanya, also a polarising figure, is a prominent gold dealer, owner of the Scottland Football Club, and a Member of Parliament.
His political career has been marked by controversy, including winning a seat unopposed after the CCC candidate was disqualified by the courts just hours before a by-election.
In a post on his social media pages this Tuesday, Chivayo announced that the donation would be officially handed over to the Warriors next week, once he returns from France. He wrote:

Chivayo And Scott Donate US$250,000 To Warriors

Wicknell Chivayo has fulfilled his pledge to the 2024 ZIFA Northern Region Soccer League (NRSL) champions, Scottland, by delivering 20 Toyota Aquas to the club, as promised.
Chivayo, a controversial figure known for winning multi-million-dollar government tenders and living a lavish lifestyle, had vowed to provide vehicles and US$1 million to Scottland if they beat MWOS to the title.
Scottland were awarded the trophy on Friday, and the club’s owner, Pedzai Sakupwanya, quickly presented the trophy to President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
However, the ruling that allowed Scottland to overtake MWOS is still in dispute, as Karoi United has appealed the decision.
The NRSL Disciplinary Committee granted Scottland a 3-0 win over Karoi United, despite the match being abandoned in the 88th minute with the score tied at 1-1. If ZIFA overturns this ruling, MWOS would be crowned champions instead.
In a social media post on Monday, Chivayo, who is closely connected to Zimbabwe’s political elite like Sakupwanya, said that his gifts were intended to boost morale within the Scottland camp. He wrote:

Meanwhile, Warriors Head Coach Michael Nees has selected the Warriors Squad for the AFCON 2025 Qualifiers versus Kenya and Cameroon.

Mabvuku Member of Parliament, Pedzai Sakupwanya (ZANU PF) has dismissed rumours circulating on social media that he has lost his mind.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/scott-scoffs-at-insanity-rumours/">H-Metro</a>, Sakupwanya said those spreading the rumours are probably taking illicit drugs.
He admonished rumour-mongers to find better things to do with their time instead of spreading falsehoods. Said Sakupwanya:

It is those people who have nothing to do and are abusing drugs who have the time to spread rumours like this.
Zvagara kuti manyepo anokurumidza kufamba. People should find jobs and let me live my life in peace, as you can see I am very much normal, and nothing is wrong with me.
I will take this opportunity to make sure that the Mabvuku community will be a better place for the youths.

Pedzai Sakupwanya Scoffs At Insanity Rumours

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) on Friday, 08 December cancelled a by-election for the Mabvuku-Tafara National Assembly constituency and declared the ZANU PF candidate Pedzai Sakupwanya as the winner.
In a statement, ZEC Chief Elections Officer Utoile Silaigwana said Sakupwanya became the sole candidate for the Mabvuku-Tafara by-election after the other candidate, CCC’s Munyaradzi Kufahakutizwi’s candidature was set aside by the High Court.
Since there were only two candidates for the Mabvuku-Tafara by-election, therefore Kufahakutizwi’s disqualification means that Sakupwanya has won the seat uncontested. Read the statement:

Further to the press release issued by the Commission on 07 November 2023, it is hereby notified that the candidature of Kufahakutizwi Febion Munyaradzi of CCC was also set aside by the High Court Order in the matter HCH7543/23.
Since there were only two candidates nominated for the Mabvuku-Tafara National Assembly constituency by-election, Sakupwanya Pedzai of ZANU (PF) is the sole candidate that was duly nominated, hence there will be no by-election in that Constituency on 09 December 2023.
Consequently, the public is hereby notified that Pedzai Sakupwanya of ZANU (PF) has been duly elected member of the National Assembly for Mabvuku-Tafara Constituency with effect from 9 December 2023.

Meanwhile, CCC has urged voters to turn out in their numbers and vote for the party’s candidates in by-elections scheduled for Saturday, 09 December.
In a statement, CCC spokesperson Promise Mkwananzi said a High Court ruling barring recalled CCC candidates from the poll, and the announcement by ZEC Chief Elections Officer, Utoile Silaigwana to withdraw ballot papers from the constituencies, have been nullified by the party’s appeal against the ruling at the Supreme Court.

ZEC Cancels Mabvuku-Tafara By-election, Declares Pedzai Sakupwanya As The Winner

Factional fights have reportedly rocked ZANU PF Harare provincial structures, with some members accusing provincial chairperson <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Godwills_Masimirembwa">Godwills Masimirembwa</a> of sabotaging <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Pedzai_Sakupwanya">Pedzai Sakupwanya</a>‘s campaign ahead of the 09 December by-elections.
Sakukwanya, a close ally of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, is running for the Mabvuku-Tafara National Assembly constituency seat for a second time against CCC’s Munyaradzi Kufahakutizwi.
Kufahakutizwi was declared the winner in the 23-24 August harmonised elections but was recalled in October by CCC’s self-proclaimed interim secretary-general Sengezo Tshabangu, prompting a by-election.
Reports indicate that Sakupwanya’s candidature has divided ZANU PF Harare structures following allegations that the Masimirembwa executive is blocking influential party members from the province to campaign for him.
An audio clip leaked to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200019844/sakupwanya-candidature-divides-zanu-pf">NewsDay</a> exposes the divisions in ZANU PF. In the audio, a party member who identified himself as comrade Nyokai Mabhunu lambasts Masimirembwa for allegedly sabotaging Sakupwanya. Said Mabhunu:

What you are doing chairman Godwills Masimirembwa is not good. You are selecting who should go and not to campaign for our Mabvuku-Tafara candidate Pedzisai Scott Sakupwanya.
Those people who are powerful in mobilising are not allowed to go and campaign while CCC was on the ground.
To the intelligence people, I want this video to go before the President. Scott cannot continue to lose. What wrong has he done for you to block him?
Scott himself has already admitted that he lost last time because he was sabotaged by Harare province. There is a need for Harare province to reform.
Masimirembwa, Masimirembwa, Masimirembwa, your personal interest is too much. You should put the interests of the party first. You are a grown-up man.
When are you retiring from your position as chairman to allow the party to move forward in Harare?
It’s better you go to the central committee and be idle because you are killing (sic) Harare.

Efforts by NewsDay to get a comment from Masimirembwa on Monday were fruitless as he was not picking up calls.
He was, however, quoted recently pledging to do all within his capacity to ensure that Sakupwanya wins the seat.
ZANU PF director for information Farai Marapira urged party members to unite despite professing ignorance about the audio. Said Marapira:

I am not in possession of such audio, but such behaviour will be against the ethos of the revolutionary party because ZANU PF was founded on the principles of unity.
I cannot comment much, but this is very much not ZANU PF behaviour. If Sakupwanya wins, it is a victory for the party.

In the August general elections, Kufahakutizwi garnered 15 934 votes against Sakupwany’s 12 038 votes.
