Women rights groups have urged the government to set up a commission of inquiry to look into sexual allegations levelled against Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries founder and leader, Walter Magaya.
Women’s Coalition of Zimbabwe chair, Ronika Mumbire told journalists on Friday that the issue should be looked into as a matter of urgency. She said:
<blockquote>As the Magaya allegations have caused public interest and alarm among the women of Zimbabwe and the society at large, Women’s Coalition of Zimbabwe, therefore, call upon Zimbabwe Republic Police, Zimbabwe Gender Commission, Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission, Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission and other relevant authorities to commission an inquiry into Mr Walter Magaya and his church in order to establish the truth behind the allegations.
… Equally disturbing is the series of videos and images in circulation, where the women who had initially reported violations are withdrawing their reports through the same platforms.
This raises questions around the credibility of allegations, public confusion and backlash.</blockquote>
Two women, Sarah Maruta and Charity Dlodlo recently told a local paper that Magaya sexually abused them when they were attending his church. Surprisingly, the two women recanted of their confession, blaming the devil for using them.

The Sunday Mail has posted a snippet of a video showing one of the alleged rape victims, Sarah Maruta, of religious leader Walter Magaya providing details of the events. The publication has promised to post the full videos as part of its weekly publication on Sunday.

Maruta was first mentioned as a rape victim in the Sunday Mail on 7 July 2019. She, however, <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/07/07/watch-sarah-maruta-denies-magaya-raped-her/">denied that she was a rape victim</a> and accused the Sunday Mail journalists of using her to fight Walter Magaya.
Walter Magaya has been the subject of a number of rape allegations since 2016. He has however not been convicted.

A Bulawayo pastor reportedly died of stress after he was “duped” by Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries founded by controversial Harare pastor, Water Magaya.
The late Ernest Mutasa was a pastor with the Assemblies of God Church. He died in April this year after his US$14 000 invested into a housing scheme started by PHD Ministries did not yield the promised results.
Mutasa’s daughter, Miss Bethel Mutasa (36), told Sunday News that her father died a bitter man after his frantic efforts to recover his money repeatedly hit a brick wall. She said:
<blockquote>What is really painful is that they caused his death and don’t want to acknowledge it. He was stressed and all he wanted to do was to secure a house for the family. He thought this was a good investment but on the contrary, it took his life.
He sold our family house with the hope of building three houses, which would, in turn, make returns to the money he invested in the programme.</blockquote>
Mutasa revealed that she had been to the PHD Ministries offices in Bulawayo several times but nothing has come out of it yet. She continued:
<blockquote>Many a time I have been there and it is the same answer I get. We are tired as a family and we are stressed.
We lost our breadwinner due to stress and now we are suffering too, all because of some church ministry that doesn’t want to own up to its mess.
They come up with different excuses all the time. One time they say they are reimbursing us, the next they say the stands will be availed with us being the first beneficiaries.
We are tired of these lies and just want our father’s investment back.</blockquote>
She revealed that the issue has affected her mother’s health as well as she is now showing signs of stress.
An Overseer at the church pleaded with the Sunday News not to publish the story and promised to have a one-on-one meeting with the reporter on Monday.

Pastor Dies After Bungled Magaya Investment Deal

The leader of the Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries Walter Magaya and his wife, Tendai, have been dragged to the High Court for failing to repay a US$23 million loan to Homelink Finance (Private) Limited.
Magaya and his wife bound themselves as surety and co-principal debtor to a loan extended to Yadah Connect (Private) Limited last year.
Failure to service the loan, Magaya risks losing his guest house in Waterfalls, Harare, which was tendered as security for the loan. The spiritual leaders also offered mining machinery, equipment, and vehicles financed under the facility as security.
The creditor, Homelink, through its lawyers, Shomwe-Nyakuedzwa Attorneys is arguing that the defendants breached the loan agreement, hence an order compelling them to pay should be issued.
Magaya and wife were, according to the agreement with Homelink, supposed to pay 33 months instalments of US$784 873,62 inclusive of interest, with effect from December 31 last year.
Magaya is yet to respond to the civil claim.

Magaya Risks Losing Guest House Over US$23M Loan

Walter Magaya’s Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries tax evasion kicked off on Tuesday, with its board member finance Nelson Marimo pleading not guilty.
Magaya’s church is facing charges of failing to declare tax of more than $28 million revenue accrued from 2013 to 2018  Marimo’s lawyer Admire Rubaya told the court that PHD Ministries denies generating taxable income through selling church regalia, anointing oil and holy water or from conducting any trade. He PHD did not declare tax for Tendayi Magaya and Walter Magaya’s salaries because it forms part of donations, offerings, and tithes which cannot be taxed.
The first witness Tinashe Madakadze, who is the chief investigating officer at Zimra said PHD Ministries declined to give him information on their sales and purchase transactions and the remunerations of its employees. He told the court that during his investigations, he found out that PHD Ministries were making sales, but did not have financial statements. This prompted him and his fellow workmates to take PHD’s computers and requested that they sent officers to their offices to provide passwords.

PHD Ministries' Tax Evasion Trial Begins

Walter Magaya’s church, Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries (PHD), has denied charges of tax evasion as the trial commenced before Regional Magistrate Hosea Mujaya.
PHD ministries are accused of failing to remit tax for over US$28 million realised from sales of wristbands, church regalia, anointed oil and water which they have refuted in court indicating that they do not carry any trade.
PHD Ministries, through its defence lawyers, Admire Rubaya and Everson Chatambudza indicated that the church does not realise any taxable income as it relies on donations and tithes which are not taxable:
<blockquote>The accused as an ecclesiastical institution did not realise any taxable income during the relevant period in question.
he accused only received donations, tithes, offerings and contributions from its members, it, therefore, had a justifiable cause not to submit the alleged income tax returns for it did not realise any taxable income as a church in the manner as prescribed by law.
Any money which was paid into Walter Magaya and his wife’s bank accounts and not declared to ZIMRA as the remuneration of the two are a part donation, offerings and tithes.</blockquote>

Magaya's Church Claims Tithes & Offerings Are Not Taxable

Founder of the Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) ministries, Prophet Walter Magaya was offered land by the Angolan National Army to construct churches as a way of thanking Magaya for changing the lives of their nationals who fellowship with him. Magaya was received at the airport, Aeroporto Internacional 4 De Fevereiro Partidas, by Angolan National Army General Armando Jose. Magaya and his team were then assigned Brigadier Jorge Mayer Faria to fly them in a military jet to Huambo Province. He was shown 7000 hectares to construct a church and 50 000 hectares for the construction of an agro-city.
Thanking the Angolans, Magaya said:
<blockquote>I thank Angola National Army for according me military status, we experienced the life of soldiers of Christ and police motorcade took us to the capital Luanda streets until we return.
…Remain blessed and focused and do be careful with those people who are after settling their personal vendetta by abusing social media.</blockquote>

Walter Magaya Offered Land To Build Churches By Angolan Army

Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries leader Prophet Walter Magaya who recently returned from a trip to Israel said that Christians must remain firm in their faith to avoid being killed or swallowed up by other religions. According to Magaya Christians are the least serious people when it comes to religion, and he urged Christians to change that aspect and take their religion seriously. Addressing congregants, Magaya said
<blockquote>Christians are less serious than other religions and if this continues we will be killed and this Jesus Christ doing mighty things among us will not be found.
Church leaders must dwell much in teaching Christianity since we have a bigger percentage of them in our country and God will heal our land
Zimbabwe has freedom of worship and is peaceful, that alone is gold to Christians and we must stand firm in fighting indoctrination by teaching Biblical things.</blockquote>
Magaya also said that Zimbabwe had the potential to make a lot of money from relligious tourism.  He compared Zimbabwe favourably against the Israelis saying that Israel was very dangerous and people could not proclaim to be Christians because there were a multitude of religions.
<blockquote>Zimbabwe is peaceful and has a number of Christians as compared to Israel where I was under surveillance not to mention the name Jesus Christ in some places I visited because of different faith of their religions.
“Mentioning the name Jesus or holding any material written ‘Jesus Christ’ was risking life since there will be people of other faith ready to descend on you even (causing) death.</blockquote>

Dancehall musician <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Soul_Jah_Love" target="_blank">Soul Jah Love</a>, real name Soul Musaka, is reportedly battling diabetes which has damaged his nerves and blood vessels so much that he has foot ulcers and infections.  His condition is said to be deteriorating <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/news/2016/12/13/pictures-soul-jah-love-healed-prophet-magaya/" target="_blank">despite the fact that he was healed</a> by <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Walter_Magaya" target="_blank">Prophet Walter Magaya</a> last year.  After he was healed, Jah Love’s condition started<a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/news/2017/01/03/soul-jah-love-struggles-stand-performing-uk-despite-healed-magaya/" target="_blank"> deteriorating again when he was in the UK on tour</a>, leading to him being briefly <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/news/2017/01/13/soul-jah-love-still-admitted-uk-hospital-condition-worsens-tour/" target="_blank">admitted in hospital there</a>.
Over the weekend, Magaya scoffed at claims that his healings were stage managed saying  that he had done his part and it was now up to Soul Jah Love to do his own.  Magaya said:

If something else develops, he should come back. He should play his part now by coming back to Jesus. He should seek God

Preaching on wisdom in line with the church’s 2017 theme of “Shifting to higher levels and maintaining them” during last week’s Wednesday service, <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Prophetic_Healing_and_Deliverance_Ministries">Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries (PHD)</a> founder, <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Walter_Magaya">Walter Magaya</a> revealed how, due to lack of wisdom, he lost millions of dollars earned through ‘burning’ money deals during the hyper-inflation year of 2008 due to lavish spending.
Said Magaya:
<blockquote>During those days I was one of the biggest exchange dealers. I had enough to stand on top of a hill. I got a million, which was the second million I had made; but it lasted six months. If you ask me what l did with it, I cannot remember. We would get into a supermarket in town, order them to close shop and tell them, ‘We are buying the whole shop’. But look at the things we would buy – biscuits and trolleys of meat. When we got to Chitungwiza, I would invite all the people who resided in my street for braai parties. As l was spending, I would say tomorrow l will do another deal but opportunities do not come every time. I have friends who invested properly at that time. A certain lady named Mrs Chanetsa cried when she came to where I lived for the deal we intended to enter into. She said she didn’t know I was struggling that much. I had a round small stove, one bed and a wardrobe. If you wanted to see your full reflection on my wardrobe’s mirror, you had to move some meters backwards. As four people, we would sleep on a single bed with two facing opposite sides so we could all fit.</blockquote>

Magaya reveals how he lost a million in 6 months when he used to "burn" Zim dollars

Prophet <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Walter_Magaya">Walter Magaya</a> of <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Prophetic_Healing_and_Deliverance_Ministries" target="_blank">Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (</a>PHD<a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Prophetic_Healing_and_Deliverance_Ministries">) Ministries</a> has warned of looming political and economic turmoil in 2017.  Magaya predicted that there would be strife in Zimbabwe, South Africa Mocambique and the Democratic Republic of Congo.  He also warned governments of these countries to be prepared for civil unrest.
Magaya said:
<blockquote>We need to pray for Zimbabwe, DRC, Mozambique and South Africa. It seems there is stability in South Africa, but it is not peaceful at all. There will be instability from one country to the other. We need to be vigilant.</blockquote>
The charismatic prophet also prophesied the death of a prominent person although he refused to state further details. He said:
<blockquote>The Lord showed me death, but I can’t talk about it here, there are so many journalists here. I will just tell gold plus and platinum partners so that when it happens they may be witnesses to the matter.</blockquote>
He also added that only those who are connected to God would sail through.
<blockquote>To the outside world, this year would be tough, not easy at all. You need to be connected to God if you are to sail through. It will be a challenging year, many will fail to go through, but those who are connected, those who receive grace, will shift to higher levels,</blockquote>
