The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC), a subsidiary of ZESA Holdings, says the prepaid electricity token purchase system will not be available from the 5th to the 6th of May 2023.
Initially, ZETDC had said its prepaid electricity token purchase system will not be available from 5 to 7 May, but apparently, the period has been reduced.
In a public notice issued this Saturday, ZETDC advised its customers that they will not be able to buy the prepaid electricity tokens from 4.30 PM on 5 May to midnight on the 6th of May 2023. Reads the notice:

This notice serves to advise all Valued Clients on the unavailability of the prepaid electricity token purchase system from 5 May 2023 at 1630 hours to 6 May 2023 at 2400 hours.
This is to allow for major system maintenance on the prepaid vending system.
Clients are therefore advised to make arrangements to purchase sufficient electricity tokens to sustain them during the service disruption period.
The inconvenience caused is sincerely regretted.

ZETDC Prepaid Token System Will Be Down From 5 To 6 May

The ZESA prepaid electricity token purchase system will not be available from the 5th to the 7th of May 2023.
In a public notice, the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) said:

This notice serves to advise all Valued Clients on the unavailability of the prepaid electricity token purchase system from Friday 5th of May 2023 extending to Sunday 7th of May 2023.
This is to allow for major system maintenance on the prepaid vending system.
Clients are therefore advised to make arrangements to purchase sufficient electricity tokens by the 4th of May to sustain them during the service disruption period.

ZESA Prepaid Electricity Token Purchase System Set For Scheduled Maintenance

The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company, a unit of Zesa Holdings, has recovered $24 million which was owed by customers from January to June through the use of prepaid meters.
Zesa is reportedly owed more than $1 billion dollars, with domestic users owing $300 doollars. Zesa spokesperson Mr Fullard Gwasira said:
<blockquote>Every month Zesa collects more than $4 million from prepaid meter users as part of measures to recover debts, and so far, estimates show that over $24 million was collected in the first half of the year.
That is the main reason we are fast tracking the installation of prepaid meters across the country so that we are able to recover more debts, and also, the installation of smart meters will contain power leakages and theft as the latest smart meters reports back where there is tampering of meters and power leakages.</blockquote>

Zesa to fast track installation of prepaid meters after it recovers $24m debt in first 6 months

In a statement, the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) warned of planned interruption from vending systems countrywide which will see consumers failing to purchase pre-paid electricity. This comes as some customers were failing to recharge electricity tokens due to network challenges.
Said ZESA:
<blockquote>The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) would like to advise its valued customers countrywide that the prepaid electricity vending system will not be available for service from Friday 7th April at 2230hrs to Sunday 9th April at 1000hrs. This is to facilitate for scheduled maintenance works to improve service delivery. Customers are advised to ensure that they buy adequate electricity that will sustain them during this maintenance period to avoid the inconvenience of running out of prepaid credit.</blockquote>

ZESA urges consumers to buy their electricity before the weekend

<a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Electricity_Supply_Authority_Holdings">Zesa Holding</a> chief executive Engineer Josh Chifamba said that the power utility will install 4 000 prepaid meters in industries.
Chifamba said that the power company is finalising the framework for the installation of smart meters for industries. He also said that they would install 4 000 meters for large power users and they will only deploy more when they see that they are getting confidence with the technology.
Said Chifamba:
<blockquote>As we speak, we are in the process of adjudicating for smart meters; our target to finish adjudication is on November 30 (tomorrow). We have called bidders to demonstrate and we will then report the results to the State Procurement Board.We are starting with 4 000 smart meters for large power users. So when we did our load focusing looking at the industry which is running; we saw that we cannot go above 4 000 meters. So we are starting with 4 000 meters and when we see that we are getting confidence with the technology, we will deploy more.</blockquote>
