The Zimbabwe Gender Commission (ZGC) has started investigations into the alleged sexual exploitation and abuse of women by Walter Magaya, a self-styled prophet.
Magaya is the founder and leader of Prophetic and Healing Deliverance Ministries church.
ZGC said an investigation into Magaya’s conduct was gazetted on 23 August 2019, but he launched a court challenge, stalling the investigation.
The commission said the courts have since handed down judgements which have allowed it to continue with the probe.
The ZGC is therefore inviting people who have sexual exploitation and abuse complaints against Magaya to come forward and present their cases. ZGC said:

The Zimbabwe Gender Commission wishes to advise members of the Public that the Zimbabwe Gender Commission in its Commission meeting number 38 on the 4th of August 2022 resolved to recommence the investigation of the allegations of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse of Women levelled against Prophet Walter Magaya of Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries.
The investigation which was gazetted on the 23rd of August 2019 (General Notice No.1444/2019) was halted by the Legal Challenge launched by the key respondent Mr Walter Magaya (Prophet Magaya).
We are happy that the courts have given legal judgements (SC592/19, HC 7347/19 and HH688/19) which have paved the way for the continuance of our processes.
As such, we are calling on all citizens who might have complaints of sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) involving the conduct of Walter Magaya to present particulars of their complaints to the Zimbabwe Gender Commission. 
The invitation is also being extended to all the complainants and witnesses to such acts which consist of SEA of Women within the denomination.

Walter Magaya Under Probe For Alleged Sexual Abuse Of Female Congregants

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has denied claims that it is shielding Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries founder and leader, Walter Magaya from prosecution over sexual abuse allegations.
In a statement issued on Thursday afternoon, ZRP National Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said:
<blockquote>In the issue of Charity Dlodlo and Sarah Maruta, we have checked with the named stations and there are no records to show that any such charges were brought before the police.
And what has been disturbing with these accusations, is that when the police were ready to pounce, the victims would turn around and say they never made such allegations.
This makes the work of the police difficult, especially that such allegations involve adults. It would have been a different case were minors involved.
For the justice delivery system to work, we need consistent and reliable witnesses, who will not turn around and say otherwise.
We have noted that it is not only Dlodlo and Maruta who have made u-turns with their allegations, which only makes it difficult for the police to investigate as there will be no witness.
It looks like there is a pattern so we urge the media to work together with the police and get to the bottom of such allegations as there might be something happening in the background that is inducing the women to turn against their earlier confessions.</blockquote>

Police Dismiss Claims Of Protecting Walter Magaya From Sex_al Abuse Allegations

Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries founder and leader, Walter Magaya told H-Metro that he will remain focused on his work in spite of accusations of rape by the Maenzanise family.
Last week, a video by the couple went viral on social media in which the Maenzanise family accused Magaya of forcing himself on their then 17-year-old girl in 2013.
In a statement to Harare tabloid publication, H-Metro, Magaya said such accusations will not dissuade him from accomplishing his mission. He said:

What I know is that I am a victim of extortions and I have decided to stop feeding extorting mouth because they are ever demanding.
Enisia was helping at the IT department before she left to the UK and she was has been threatening to destroy me through social media if I fail to support her financially and this is it.
If you stop helping someone he or she begin to hate you unaware that we have many children to give help anoramba achida kubatsirwa chete haagute.

Such people are the ones who turn against me when I stop helping them and seek ways to tarnish me but I will remain focused.</blockquote>

Walter Magaya Blames 'Extortionists' For Rape Allegations

Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries founder and leader, Walter Magaya faces sexual abuse accusations after a couple posted a video on YouTube in which they claim that he impregnated their 17-year-old daughter.
The couple, Godfrey and Molly Maenzanise claimed that the man of cloth adopted their two daughters in January 2013 and within months, one of them was pregnant.
Narrating how she discovered that her daughter had been impregnated by Magaya, Molly said:
<blockquote>I got the shock of my life… I asked him how this had happened, and who was responsible? He told me my daughter was three weeks pregnant by a boy who had refused to take responsibility.
Magaya told me the boy insisted he was not ready to settle down with my daughter, and the pregnancy had been unplanned.
I was deeply pained. I was very sad that my daughter’s life had been messed up in this way because she had goals in life, she wanted to study medicine.</blockquote>
The matter only came to light after their daughter was married in 2016. It was only then that she started to open up. Molly continued in the video:
<blockquote>She said Magaya used to abuse her. She said he would force her to have sex with her in the toilet, in the prayer room… she mentioned many places.
I asked her if they were in love and she said no, which suggests to me she was manipulated. At her tender age, she was just still a minor. She was put in a corner, she was manipulated until she gave in.</blockquote>
According to the couple, Magaya finally admitted and apologised for his deeds in 2016. Said, Godfrey:
<blockquote>She told Magaya that he had hurt her confidence and self-worth and that he had ruined her life. Magaya at that moment then apologised and said that it was not his intention to hurt her.
He asked for her forgiveness. He pledged to find an amicable solution as soon as he had dealt with his rape case, which was before the courts then.</blockquote>
The couple attended Magaya’s church when the alleged rape incidents happened. They said Magaya’s failure to continue supporting his child has prompted them to speak out.
