A 24-year-old man from Chief Mutasa’s area has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the rape of a 9-year-old girl in Dangamvura, Mutare.
The offender, whose identity has not been disclosed, appeared in Mutare Magistrates’ Court facing the charges.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the incident occurred in August 2024 when the man and a friend visited the victim’s home. Said the NPA:

The offender’s friend had come to the complainant’s home to see the maid who happens to be his girlfriend.
When the maid and her boyfriend went inside the house, the offender remained with the complainant in his vehicle.
He then drove to a local business centre where he purchased beer and forced the complainant to drink some.
Upon returning to the complainant’s home from the business centre, he locked the car doors, removed the complainant’s underwear, and raped her in the car.
The offence came to light when the complainant’s mother noticed a discharge from the complainant’s private parts five days after the incident. She then revealed what had happened.

The rapist was sentenced to 20 years in prison, with 3 years suspended for a period of 5 years. As a result, he will serve a total of 17 years effectively.

24-Year-Old Sentenced To 20 Years For Raping 9-Year-Old Girl

A 20-year-old man from the Chief Chitsa area in Gutu was arrested after raping a 65-year-old woman at her homestead.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the incident occurred on September 27, 2024, when Emanuel Mahachi broke a window to gain entry into the complainant’s home in the Chief Chitsunge area of Buhera.
Upon entering, Mahachi confronted the elderly woman, who screamed for help, but no one responded to her cries. He forcibly grabbed her neck and commanded her to comply with his orders, and raped her.
After the assault, Mahachi fell asleep, providing the victim with a crucial opportunity. She managed to alert her neighbours about the intruder in her home and the horrific act he had committed. This led to Mahachi’s arrest.
Following the incident, Mahachi was brought before the Rusape Magistrates’ Court, where he was sentenced to 18 years in prison for his crime.

20-Year-Old Man Rapes Elderly Woman And Falls Asleep At Crime Scene

A 35-year-old man from Mutare was sentenced to an effective 18-year prison term for raping his 15-year-old neighbour on August 30, 2024.
The man appeared before the Mutare Magistrates’ Court and was convicted on rape charges. He was sentenced on Monday.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), on August 30, 2024, the 35-year-old man went to the complainant’s home, searching for the complainant’s brother. Said the NPA:

When he got there he found out that the complainant’s brother was not at home, instead he found the complainant and her younger brother alone at home. He offered them some juice whereupon they both felt dizzy after taking the juice.
The accused person left and later returned and attempted to forcefully grab the complainant by the hand. The complainant escaped and ran to her parents’ bedroom.
The accused person followed her to the bedroom where he covered her mouth using a pillow, removed her clothes and raped her.

The man only stopped when he heard the complainant’s father’s motorcycle approaching. He fled the scene, leaving behind some of his clothing. Said the NPA:

He returned later and accused the complainant and her brother of stealing the clothes and his mobile phone.
The complainant’s father believed the accused person’s story about the theft and assaulted the complainant who ran away to her mother who was at a funeral and confided in her about the offence.
A Police report was made leading to the arrest of the accused person.

The accused person was convicted and sentenced to 20 years imprisonment of which 2 years were suspended. He will serve 18 years effectively.

Lengthy Sentence Handed Down To Mutare Man For Heinous Rape Of 15-Year-Old

A 62-year-old suspected serial killer and rapist, Daniel Chauke, was on Thursday arraigned before the Chipinge Magistrates’ Court charged with three counts of murder as defined in Section 47[1] of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23.
In the first incident, allegations are that on 21 October 2023, Ruth Sithole was working in her field at Chikwanda Village Chief Mutema area in Chipinge when she was approached by Chauke who asked her if he could do manual work in her fields. She reportedly turned his request down.
Chauke allegedly grabbed Sithole by the neck and dragged her for about 40 metres. He allegedly forced her down and raped her once before strangling her to death.
Chauke allegedly took his machete and struck the now deceased’s dog all over the body before taking her lunch box and walking away. He was found in possession of a spoon belonging to the deceased.
In the second incident, on 24 April 2024, Honeni Manaka Masimandoyo was walking in Derera Village under Chief Ngorima in Chimanimani when she met Chauke.
Chauke proposed love to her but she turned him down stating that she was married. This did not go down well with Chauke, who allegedly grabbed Masimandoyo’s arm and pulled her to the ground.
Chauke allegedly dragged Masimandoyo to a nearby bush where he strangled her until she was weak and raped her.
After raping her, he took his knife, cut out her private parts, and took her pantie and wrapping cloth before fleeing the scene. He was found in possession of the deceased’s pantie.
In the third incident, on 26 May 2024, Siliya Maponese was on her way to Scort Village Mabheka Chipinge when she met Chauke along the way near Budzi River, Bangazani area in Chipinge on a footpath.
Chauke allegedly approached and proposed love to Maponese and he was rejected. He allegedly grabbed her and dragged her into the nearby bush where he raped and killed her.
The accused person took her cellphone and walked away. He was found in possession of the said cellphone.
Chauke was remanded to the 12th of June 2024 and was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

Chipinge Man (62) In Court For Raping And Killing Three Women

A suspected serial rapist is on the loose in Plumtree and Mangwe, Matabeleland South Province, and villagers in the areas are now living in fear.
<a href="https://cite.org.zw/fear-spreads-as-serial-rapist-terrorises-plumtree-and-mangwe-communities/">CITE</a> reported sources as saying the alleged rapist is armed with a machete and has assaulted and raped women in Plumtree Town, Mpoengs, Khalanyoni, Brunapeg, Makwakwa, and other locations.
A Plumtree Town resident who preferred anonymity told CITE that they do not understand why the alleged perpetrator has not been arrested. Said the source:

Plumtree residents are living in fear of a rapist who is gruesomely beating women and raping them. He is a threat to the community and as residents of Plumtree, we need answers as to why he is committing all these crimes but remains a free man.

People who allege to have seen the rapist described him as a strong, dark-complexioned man.
A worried resident narrated an incident in which the suspect reportedly attacked both an aunt and her niece, prompting the niece to flee naked and seek help. Said the resident:

The rapist is terrorising women in Makwakwa. Last week, he raped an aunt and her niece, he started with the aunt and forced her niece to also lie down closer to them.
When he moved to the aunt for the second time, the niece managed to escape naked and managed to scream for help.

The rapist allegedly took the aunt’s phone and threatened to kill her.
Villagers from Makwakwa and Crossroads tracked the suspect but they failed to capture him after they lost his footprints.
Some residents claimed that the perpetrator may have originated from Ngwizi and previously lived in South Africa and Botswana, where he allegedly committed similar crimes. Said a concerned resident:

Women and children are now accompanied by their brothers or husbands. They are no longer free to walk alone as this man is all over the place.

Acting Matabeleland South Provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Stanford Mguni told CITE he could not comment on the matter as investigations were ongoing.

Serial Rapist On The Loose In Plumtree And Mangwe

A serial rapist who masqueraded as omalayitsha (private cross-border courier operator) was sentenced to 232 years in jail on Friday at Tredgold Regional Magistrates Court in Bulawayo.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said Prosper Bhule (30), was charged with 18 counts of rape after he violated teenage girls in Bulawayo aged between 13 and 19 from 2018 December to March 2022. Said NPAZ:

The accused person targeted the girls when they were alone at home, or on the way to school or an errand.
He lured them from the security of their homes by saying that he had been sent to advise the girls that their parents, guardians or relatives had sent them some parcels or groceries from South Africa or vegetables from the local market.
He would insist that the girls must go to the collection point with him to get the parcels.
He lied so convincingly that his victims followed him to the said collection point. He took the victims through a bushy area where he would threaten them with an okapi knife, kick them with booted feet and assault them with fists before raping them. He also robbed the victims of their cellphones.
All the victims made a report to the nearest police station soon after being raped. The prompt reports and descriptions given by the victims helped the police to realise that they were dealing with a sophisticated criminal who premeditated his crimes.
He gathered information about the victims and the frequency with which they were likely to receive parcels, groceries etc from relatives and used the information to commit his crimes.

Bhule was arrested after a massive manhunt that was coordinated by the Homicide division of the Criminal Investigations Department(CID).

Serial Rapist Sentenced To 232 Years Imprisonment

An ex-convict from Masvingo, who was convicted of raping his daughter and spent six years in prison, is accused of raping her again and impregnating her soon after his release.
Richard Mazviyo, 50, of Mushaviri Village 4 in Gutu, has allegedly been sexually abusing his daughter, Beaular Mazviyo, for about a decade now.
Beaular, who is 23 years old, is dumb.
Fellow villagers accuse Mazviyo of sexually abusing her daughter since she was in Grade Seven.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/ex-convict-takes-in-daughter-as-wife/">H-Metro</a>, Mazviyo, however, denied the allegations saying the villagers are jealous of his farming prowess and want him to be sent to prison again. He said:

I never raped my daughter as alleged but all the villagers are against me. I do not know why, maybe, it’s a bad spell.
I got arrested in 2014 when I was accused of raping my daughter.
I was convicted and sentenced to 12 years.
Upon my release, after serving six years, my daughter got pregnant, as well as my wife, and everyone accused me of being responsible for my daughter’s pregnancy.
I was arrested and spent some months at remand prison but they failed to find evidence to convict me.

Mazviyo claimed that his daughter’s disability was caused by his three aunties who died on the same day. He said:

She is my daughter and I do not want any man to marry her because she is dumb.
My daughter is a hard worker and I do not feel it’s good to allow anyone to separate us.
People were quick to accuse me of causing my daughter’s dumbness, it’s not true.

Villagers and my relatives have been accusing me of sexually abusing my daughter but none of them have evidence of such allegations.

My daughter was once taken to my aunt in Gokwe and she returned so I do not want anyone to take her away from me.

Mazviyo’s wife, Winnie Gebe (46), said she was deeply hurt by what her daughter has been made to go through. She said:

My tears are never dry due to what I am going through and witnessing day and night.
One of these days my husband woke up, left me and went to knock at the door where our daughter sleeps.
I followed and confronted him about it.
He was quick to defend himself saying he wanted to get some fire to light his cigarette.

Beaular was 14 when she became dumb, the same year she was raped by her father. Mazviyo reportedly threatens people that he does not hesitate to return to prison after killing whoever gets involved in his family’s issues.

Man (50) Accused Of Taking Daughter As A Second Wife

A serial rapist, Goodwill Mhandu (21), was on Wednesday, 01 November sentenced to 34 years in prison for raping and robbing three women in Domboshava over a two-year period, reported <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/serial-rapist-jailed-34-years/">The Herald</a>.
Mhandu was convicted of three counts of rape and three counts of robbery by Harare regional magistrate Letwin Rwodzi.
The magistrate initially sentenced Mhandu to 72 years in jail for the six counts.
On the rape charges, Mhandu was sentenced to 15 years in jail on each one of the three counts.
However, Magistrate Rwodzi then set the sentences to run concurrently, giving an effective 15 years, the same as for a single offence.
For the first robbery, he was sentenced to 12 years in jail of which two years were suspended conditionally.
One more year was suspended on condition that he pay back what he stole by the end of November 2023.
On the second robbery charge he was again sentenced to 12 years in prison, but this time three years were suspended on condition of good behaviour when he comes out of jail.
On the third robbery count the sentence was 24 months and six months were suspended.
The three effective sentences of nine years, nine years and 18 months were added to give 19.5 years.
That term was added to the effective 15 years for rape to give the 34.5 years total.
Allegations were that in November 2022, Mhandu armed with a machete and iron bar, broke into Joina City Tuckshop in Domboshava where the complainant was sleeping.
He tied the shopkeeper’s hands and legs before raping her three times without protection after threatening to chop off her head with the machete.
After raping her, he ransacked the tuckshop and stole US$150, $5 000, groceries and two cellphones.
According to the State Papers Mhandu is HIV positive.
On 26 January 2022, Mhandu broke into another shop called Hot Dog situated in Domboshava and threatened the woman who worked there with a knife, demanding cash.
He hand­cuffed her and demanded that she surrender the shop keys. After forcing her into the shop he tied her legs with a rope before raping her twice without protection.
Mhandu then opened the cash box and stole US$500, $2 000 and two cell phones.
On 06 January 2023, Mhandu broke into another woman’s house armed with an axe and a machete and ordered her to remain silent or else he would kill her.
He stole US$6 from her wallet and assaulted her demanding more money. Mhandu then raped her four times before packing her groceries into a bag and fled.
Mhandu was later arrested after a tip-off.

Domboshava Serial Rapist Jailed 34 Years

Police in Midlands Province have launched a manhunt for a suspected rapist from Zhombe who allegedly left his trousers and shoes at the crime scene after raping a 15-year-old girl in front of her two siblings.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Midlands Province Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident to the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/zhombe-rapist-leaves-trouser-shoes-at-crime-scene/">Chronicle</a>.
The incident occurred on Wednesday last week around 9:30 PM in Mugan’a Village under Chief Malisa in Zhombe. Said Inspector Mahoko:

It is alleged that the complainant (name withheld to protect her identity) was sleeping in her bedroom together with her two young brothers when the suspect Costa Muswazulu of Tito Village under Chief Malisa gained entry into the room armed with a knife.
</blockquote>
Muswazulu allegedly forced the complainant to wake up and pointed a knife at her threatening to stab her if she made any noise. Said Insp Mahoko:

Muswazulu then removed his clothes before also undressing the complainant and raped her once.
</blockquote>
He said the complainant and her brothers screamed for help thereby waking up their elder brother who was sleeping in the kitchen.
The complainant’s brother tried to apprehend the suspect but was hit with a piece of wood resulting in Muswazulu escaping and fleeing into the darkness. Added Insp Mahoko:

Muswazulu escaped leaving behind his pair of trousers and shoes. The items have since been taken by the police as exhibits.

He appealed to members of the public who may have information that may assist in the arrest of the suspect to approach any nearest police station.

Rapist Leaves Trousers, Shoes At Crime Scene

A 33-year-old from Dangamvura, Mutare has been sentenced to 20 years in jail for drugging and raping his 13-year-old daughter.
The convict (name withheld to protect the identity of the victim), will, however, serve an effective 18-year jail term after two years were suspended on condition of good behaviour.
The man was convicted and sentenced this week by Mutare regional magistrate, Pathekhile Msipa, for rape as defined in Section 65(1) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23.
<a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/20-years-for-rapist-dad/">The Manica Post</a> reported that the man had gained popularity in the Mutare automobile industry as a VW specialist.
When he appeared before the magistrate, the accused person pleaded not guilty to the rape charges.
Prosecuting, Nomathemba Sayi said from 2021 to June 2022, the man raped his then Form One 13-year-old daughter in Dangamvura in a bushy area near Mutare’s Central Business District.
The court heard that on an unknown date in 2021, the man bought some fruit juice and laced it with an unknown drug before giving it to his daughter, son and wife.
Soon after drinking the spiked juice, the girl started feeling dizzy and vomited.
The girl saw the accused person lifting her brother and placing him in his car which was parked outside.
Her mother passed out.
The 13-year-old, who was still vomiting, left for her bedroom and her father followed her and raped her.
Sayi told the court that the man would sexually abuse his teen daughter whenever he pleased.
He would sexually abuse his daughter in his office when she came to collect bus fare or in his car at a secluded bushy place. Said Sayi:

On June 4, 2022, the complainant visited his father’s workplace as she needed a school file.
Instead of the father driving to town to get the file for his daughter, he drove to a bushy area where he had oral sex with her before raping her.
</blockquote>
The teenager later gathered courage and informed her mother about the sexual abuse.
She was immediately taken to the police to file a complaint.
The girl was medically examined and the report is before the courts as an exhibit.

Rapist Dad Sentenced To 18 Years In Jail

A suspected rapist who targetted young girls in Glen View and Budiriro suburbs in Harare was arrested by police on Tuesday morning, <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/suspected-serial-rapist-arrested-in-harare-for-raping-16-girls/">reported The Herald</a>.
The suspect allegedly broke into houses and raped 16 girls in the two suburbs since September last year.
Fourteen of the alleged rape cases occurred in Glen View while the other two occurred in Budiriro.
His arrest comes after police in Harare recently warned residents that there was a serial rapist on the loose in these suburbs.
The suspect whose name is still being withheld was arrested on Tuesday, 14 January 2023 at Churu Farm, near Glen View 1.
He is believed to have raped girls aged between seven and 14 years.
In a statement last week, ZRP spokesperson for Harare Province, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, said police had received five similar rape cases which were reported. He was quoted as saying:

The similarities of the cases in how the perpetrator breaks into houses and rapes minor children shows that it’s the same person.

Suspected Serial Rapist Arrested In Harare For Raping 16 Girls

Police in Harare have warned residents that there is a serial rapist on the loose in the city’s western suburbs.
The rapist has been breaking into houses and raping girls in Glen View and Budiriro for the past month.
In a statement, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Harare Province, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, said five similar rape cases have been reported. He said:

Police have noted with concern the number of rape cases involving a man targeting minor children for the past month.
The similarities of the cases in how the perpetrator breaks into houses and rapes minor children shows that it’s the same person.
In five cases recorded, the perpetrator broke into houses, threatens the girls and asks if they have engaged in any sexual activities before.
If the girls say no, he rapes them and then flees.

Insp Chakanza appealed for information that may lead to the arrest of the rapist.
He also implored parents to monitor their children. Said Insp Chakanza:

Serial Rapist On The Loose In Harare

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the arrest of the notorious robber and rapist, Sam Muropa (31), who escaped from Harare Remand Prison while on remand on 1 October.
In a statement on Wednesday evening, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said Muropa was arrested after he had stolen a vehicle in Kuwadzana and was searching for a team to commit further robberies. The statement read:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Sam Muropa (31) who escaped from Harare Remand Prison while on remand (in custody) on 1st October 2021.
The suspect is facing six counts of robbery and rape, three counts of robbery and aggravated indecent assault, nine counts of armed robbery and one count of impersonation.
On 5th October 2021, detectives received information that the suspect was driving an unregistered Toyota Wish searching for a team to commit further robberies.
The detectives acted on the information and arrested the suspect in the Kuwadzana area in Harare.
Investigations by the Police revealed that the suspect stole the Toyota Wish vehicle at Kuwadzana 2 shops from Bruce Muponza (47) on the pretext that he wanted to hire the vehicle to Whitehouse and back to Kuwadzana.
The police will ensure that the law will be applied without fear or favour on suspects who escape from justice.
