<p>Rugare Gumbo former liberation stalwart and former war veterans leader while speaking to the Daily News said, for President Emmerson Mnangagwa to solve Zimbabwe’s problems he must unite all people, and be open to speaking to members of the opposition.</p>
<p>Speaking to the publication, Gumbo said:</p>

<div dir="ltr">The situation on the ground doesn’t seem to allow the continuation of the crises because people are now tired of all this. There must be a change in the attitude of those who are in power.</div>

<div dir="ltr">They must unite the people, as any failure to do that will mean that they will be digging their own political graves,He (Mnangagwa) must absolutely make sure that he unites Zimbabweans as he is the president. He has the power to sit down with all Zimbabweans.</div>

<div dir="ltr">Gumbo spoke at length about the need for oneness and even cited fellow liberation war hero Simon Muzenda and his quest for unity:</div>

<div dir="ltr">He must be able to contact his rivals and talk with them so that they can solve the current problems I was watching vaMuzenda’s (the late former Vice President Simon Muzenda’s) video, where he was encouraging unity among Zimbabweans.</div>

<div dir="ltr">Without unity, the future of Zimbabwe is bleak. It is going to be problematic for the ruling party to go into 2023 without uniting Zimbabweans. They are digging their own grave if they fail to talk to all political parties and unite all people to solve the country’s current crises,</div>

<div dir="ltr">Gumbo also condemned people who prioritise power only and said the ruling party must either shape up or ship out:</div>

<div dir="ltr">If you think of power only without thinking about the life of the ordinary person you have a problem. The ruling party must shape up or ship out. Mnangagwa must be man enough and accept the challenges facing the country. If there is no unity, there will always be external and internal threats. You don’t need that. You need … to unite even with people who oppose your views so that you can bring stability in the country.</div>

<div dir="ltr">The ruling party must know that one doesn’t know what lies in the future. Change does occur and for anybody to think that he will remain in power for ever is not good. In Shona they say chinobhururuka chinomhara. Hakuna chisingaperi (everything ends) and we say let’s not do that. Everyone is a Zimbabwean. There is no Zimbabwe for Zanu PF or MDC … Zimbabwe is for everybody.</div>

<div dir="ltr">Meanwhile, another Zanu PF stalwart and a member of the politburo Tshinga Dube over the weekend echoed Rugare Gumbo’s sentiments and said the leaders have to <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/09/20/it-all-starts-with-zanu-pf-leaders-agreeing-that-we-need-dialogue-south-africa-has-a-critical-role-to-play-tshinga-dube/">first accept that they need help for the ANC to intervene and mediate in Zimbabwe. </a></div>

ED Will Be Digging His Own Political Grave If He Fails To Talk To All Political Parties & Unite All People - Rugare Gumbo

<p>Rugare Gumbo, a former ZANU PF politburo member and cabinet minister said that he is happy sitting on the sidelines and is not longing to rejoin the former liberation party.</p>
<p>Gumbo was sacked from ZANU PF alongside Joice Mujuru, Didymus Mutasa, Ray Kaukonde among others in 2014.</p>
<p>They were shown the exit door after their Gamatox faction was accused of plotting to unseat the then President, Robert Mugabe.</p>
<p>In an interview with the Daily News over the weekend, Gumbo said:</p>
<blockquote><p>I am not concerned at all about re-joining Zanu PF. Some have gone back but mumwe nemumwe anoita zvaanoda (we all have the right to do as we please).</p>
<p>I am enjoying myself in the terraces, and I am quite comfortable. I am off politics and I will not apply to re-join a party that I suffered for since I was a kid.</p></blockquote>
<p>Gumbo reiterated the importance of independence to Zimbabweans, saying that the country lost more than 50 000 people during the liberation struggle. He said:</p>
<blockquote><p>Independence is very important for the people of Zimbabwe. It is now a critical moment for reflection of what we achieved and missed.</p>
<p>We lost a number of people during the liberation struggle. The estimates put the number at 50 000, but it could be higher than that.</p>
<p>There are a number of things that we need to ask ourselves as we celebrate Independence Day. The economy is in a quagmire, to begin with.</p>
<p>This means that we are not enjoying the fruits of independence, maybe because of commissions or omissions on our part as nationalists.</p>
<p>But there is no doubt that we have to take responsibility for our generational failure. We failed to mentor young people to take over.</p>
<p>We, nationalists, don’t accept that we are old and should pass on the leadership baton. Zimbabweans deserve better than what we are getting now.</p></blockquote>

Rugare Gumbo Turns Down ED Overtures, Says Old People Should Let The Young Rule

<p>Former Zanu PF spokesperson Rugare Gumbo told the Daily News last week that he was ready to rejoin Zanu PF.</p>
<p>Gumbo who is the only surviving member of the Dare ReChimurenga that directed the liberation war struggle, attended Zanu PF’s extraordinary congress held in Harare last December. He said he was invited to the congress by the war veterans. Said Gumbo:</p>
<blockquote><p>I attended the congress upon invitation by the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association but now we are waiting for the leadership to clarify certain things while we consult with others, including Mutasa. It must be noted that there are problems in Zanu PF some of which forced us out in the first place so we have said we want clarity on the direction and role we will play should we come back. It really depends on what clarification they will give on issues of unity, internal fights which is something that has always concerned us so it is under consideration because I have a constituency to consult.</p></blockquote>
