Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Secretary General, Sengezo Tshabangu, has thanked President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his deputy, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, for their support during his recent illness.
According to <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/mnangagwa-chiwenga-showed-me-love-in-my-darkest-hour-tshabangu/">ZimLive</a>, Tshabangu, who was representing Zimbabwe at the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) meeting in Geneva, fell seriously ill shortly after his arrival and was hospitalized in intensive care for a week.
Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday, Tshabangu shared that Vice President Chiwenga called him while he was bedridden in Geneva, assuring him that the government would do everything in its power to bring him back home safely.
President Mnangagwa later reached out as well, offering words of encouragement, and telling Tshabangu, “All shall be well.” Said Tshabangu:

I also extend the same gratitude to the Head of State and his Deputy. I will chronicle my gratitude in that order…
On 10th October 2024, I went to Geneva representing this Parliament, representing the people of Zimbabwe. On arrival in Geneva on 11th October 2024, I fell ill.
I was taken to the Geneva Medical Centre, and then transferred to a bigger hospital. I was helped by our colleagues around four o’clock Geneva time, but I was taken around seven o’clock in the evening because I could no longer take it.
I was dizzy and was taken to a medical centre, where I received medical attention and was put in ICU. I remained in the ICU for about a week.

Tshabangu went on to thank Mnangagwa and Chiwenga for their support during his hospitalisation. He said:

The most important thing that happened in that hospital, Mr. President, was a call from the Deputy President of this country, Mr. Chiwenga, who called me lying in that hospital and assured me that this Government would do everything they could to bring me back home. The following day, the Head of State called me and assured me that all shall be well…
I am a member and the leader of the opposition in Parliament, but I went out representing the country. The Head of State and his Deputy showed that as a Zimbabwean, I deserve the same care as anyone else, whether you are from ZANU PF or CCC, but we are Zimbabweans.

Tshabangu said the Zimbabwean government paid the hospital bill on time, adding: “… imagine staying in a foreign-developed hospital in intensive care for a week—my situation was dire.”

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) self-declared secretary-general, Sengezo Tshabangu, was reported to have been moved to the ICU of a hospital in Switzerland following a sudden illness upon his arrival.
According to The Standard, Tshabangu was in Switzerland to attend the 149th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly, where he is a member of the IPU Standing Committee on Sustainable Development Goals.
He arrived in Switzerland on a Friday for the assembly, which ran from October 12 to 17, 2024.
The publication reported a source close to Tshabangu, as saying he experienced severe stomach pains shortly after landing, leading to his immediate hospitalisation due to suspected food poisoning.
The source said that Tshabangu was fine throughout the flight, and the illness was sudden.
Tshabangu received prompt medical attention and was admitted to the ICU at one point because his condition was critical. As a result, he never got the opportunity to attend the event.
When contacted by The Standard, Tshabangu appeared to acknowledge his illness, saying he was recovering.
Tshabangu’s personal assistant, Nqobizitha Mlilo, confirmed that Tshabangu was on the mend and had returned to his normal duties.

He had stomach pain and was suspected of food poisoning. He got medical help quickly and is now recovering. He missed the event but is back to work. He got sick right after arriving in Switzerland. He is feeling better now.
