A 35-year-old man has been sentenced to 85 years in prison by the Harare Magistrates’ Court after he was found guilty on a staggering 14 counts of rape, 2 counts of attempted rape, 13 counts of robbery, and a single count of unlawful entry.
The State successfully proved that the accused individual had gone on a prolonged crime spree, committing a series of robberies as well as various sexual offences over the period from December 2021 to January 2023.
The man’s criminal rampage targeted residents living in and around the Churu Farm and Glenview areas of Harare.
The modus operandi of the accused was to break into the homes of his victims, where he would threaten them with weapons such as iron bars, screwdrivers, kitchen knives, or catapults, before proceeding to rob and rape them.
The accused man was eventually apprehended by members of the public on Churu Farm on January 24, 2023.
Following the trial, he was sentenced to a total of 85 years in prison, with 10 years of the sentence suspended.

A man was sentenced to 85 years in jail for raping and robbing many people in Churu Farm and Glenview. He used weapons to threaten his victims before robbing and raping them. He was caught by the public and found guilty of 14 counts of rape, 2 counts of attempted rape, 13 counts of robbery, and unlawful entry. He will spend a long time in prison for his crimes.

Churu Farm, Glenview Serial Rapist And Robber Sentenced To 85 Years Imprisonment

A serial rapist from Chipinge, Daniel Chauke (62) was on Tuesday sentenced to a total of 133 years imprisonment on seven counts of rape following a full trial which took place on a continuous roll from 10 to 14 June 2024.
According to a statement released by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) on Tuesday, June 18, the State proved that the accused person raped a woman (69) who was coming from her field on 03 April 2022.
Chauke approached the complainant and told her that her grandchildren had stolen his property at his house. He hit the complainant once on the right cheek causing her to fall.
He then tied her hands and mouth and force-marched her into a bushy area where he committed the offence.
Chauke committed six more similar offences involving a 60-year-old woman, a 46-year-old woman, a 23-year-old woman, a 71-year-old woman, a 36-year-old woman and a 45-year-old woman between July 2022 and April 2024.
Chauke was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment on the first count. On the second count, he was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.
He was sentenced to 20 years each for counts 3 to 7. Counts 1 to 4 will run concurrently with count 7. He will serve 60 years effectively.
He is also facing three counts of murder.

Chipinge Serial Rapist, Daniel Chauke, Sentenced To 133 Years In Prison

The trial of a 62-year-old suspected serial rapist and killer from Chipinge, Daniel Chauke, is set to start this Monday, 10 June, on a continuous roll at the Chipinge Magistrates’ Court.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Chauke is facing six counts of rape and three counts of murder.
Allegations are that Chauke raped a woman (69) who was coming from her field on 03 April 2022. He approached the complainant and told her that her grandchildren had stolen his property at his house.
Chauke hit the complainant once on the right cheek causing her to fall. He tied her hands and mouth and force-marched her into a bushy area where he raped her.
On 03 May 2022, Chauke allegedly raped a 60-year-old woman who was harvesting maize in her field. He accused the complainant of stealing an animal he had trapped using a snare before force-marching her into a bushy area where he raped her. After the act, he took the complainant’s phone and walked away.
Chauke is alleged to have committed four more similar offences involving a 46-year-old woman, a 23-year-old woman, a 71-year-old woman and a 36-year-old woman between July 2022 and April this year.
He was finally arrested on 27 May 2024 at Usange in Chipinge.

Chipinge Serial Rapist And Killer's Trial Starts On Monday

A suspected serial rapist is on the loose in Plumtree and Mangwe, Matabeleland South Province, and villagers in the areas are now living in fear.
<a href="https://cite.org.zw/fear-spreads-as-serial-rapist-terrorises-plumtree-and-mangwe-communities/">CITE</a> reported sources as saying the alleged rapist is armed with a machete and has assaulted and raped women in Plumtree Town, Mpoengs, Khalanyoni, Brunapeg, Makwakwa, and other locations.
A Plumtree Town resident who preferred anonymity told CITE that they do not understand why the alleged perpetrator has not been arrested. Said the source:

Plumtree residents are living in fear of a rapist who is gruesomely beating women and raping them. He is a threat to the community and as residents of Plumtree, we need answers as to why he is committing all these crimes but remains a free man.
</blockquote>
People who allege to have seen the rapist described him as a strong, dark-complexioned man.
A worried resident narrated an incident in which the suspect reportedly attacked both an aunt and her niece, prompting the niece to flee naked and seek help. Said the resident:

The rapist is terrorising women in Makwakwa. Last week, he raped an aunt and her niece, he started with the aunt and forced her niece to also lie down closer to them.
When he moved to the aunt for the second time, the niece managed to escape naked and managed to scream for help.

The rapist allegedly took the aunt’s phone and threatened to kill her.
Villagers from Makwakwa and Crossroads tracked the suspect but they failed to capture him after they lost his footprints.
Some residents claimed that the perpetrator may have originated from Ngwizi and previously lived in South Africa and Botswana, where he allegedly committed similar crimes. Said a concerned resident:

Women and children are now accompanied by their brothers or husbands. They are no longer free to walk alone as this man is all over the place.
</blockquote>
Acting Matabeleland South Provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Stanford Mguni told CITE he could not comment on the matter as investigations were ongoing.

Serial Rapist On The Loose In Plumtree And Mangwe

A serial rapist who masqueraded as omalayitsha (private cross-border courier operator) was sentenced to 232 years in jail on Friday at Tredgold Regional Magistrates Court in Bulawayo.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said Prosper Bhule (30), was charged with 18 counts of rape after he violated teenage girls in Bulawayo aged between 13 and 19 from 2018 December to March 2022. Said NPAZ:

The accused person targeted the girls when they were alone at home, or on the way to school or an errand.
He lured them from the security of their homes by saying that he had been sent to advise the girls that their parents, guardians or relatives had sent them some parcels or groceries from South Africa or vegetables from the local market.
He would insist that the girls must go to the collection point with him to get the parcels.
He lied so convincingly that his victims followed him to the said collection point. He took the victims through a bushy area where he would threaten them with an okapi knife, kick them with booted feet and assault them with fists before raping them. He also robbed the victims of their cellphones.
All the victims made a report to the nearest police station soon after being raped. The prompt reports and descriptions given by the victims helped the police to realise that they were dealing with a sophisticated criminal who premeditated his crimes.
He gathered information about the victims and the frequency with which they were likely to receive parcels, groceries etc from relatives and used the information to commit his crimes.

Bhule was arrested after a massive manhunt that was coordinated by the Homicide division of the Criminal Investigations Department(CID).

Serial Rapist Sentenced To 232 Years Imprisonment

A serial armed robber and rapist, who broke into more than 20 homes and business premises in Harare, has pleaded guilty to 29 charges of rape, armed robbery and unlawful entry.
Issa Siyabu, who is also known as Issa Chakazama, or Innocent Kajira, appeared before Harare regional magistrate Loice Mukunyadze on Wednesday, 14 February.
As reported by <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/serial-rapist-pleads-guilty-to-29-counts/">H-Metro</a>, Siyabu targeted prominent businessmen and popular figures, including Ronald Ajara, celebrity dentist Dr Anesu Musvosvi, former mayor Ben Manyenyeni and Better Brands executive manager, Simbarashe Makomichi.
As the counts were being read, Siyabu told the court not to “bother” itself by reading as he was pleading guilty to everything – two rape charges, five armed robberies and 22 unlawful entries.
Magistrate Mukunyadze, however, insisted on the charges being read in full for the record.
Prosecutors said on 23 December 2022, Ajara went to bed with his family at his Borrowdale home.
While they were asleep, Siyabu forced entry into their home through the kitchen door and stole a Play Station 5, MacBook Air, Bose speaker, iPhone 14 Plus and a JBL speaker and went away unnoticed.
Upon arrest, Siyabu made indications on how he broke into the house and stole the property worth US$5 000. Nothing was recovered.
In another count, Siyabu broke into a 42-year-old woman’s home in Mt Pleasant while she was sleeping on 07 January.
She was awakened by unusual noises coming from the kitchen at around 2 AM. Siyabu went into her bedroom brandishing a knife and threatened to kill her if she screamed.
She complied and he started demanding cash which she said she didn’t have.
Siyabu then forcefully shoved a cloth in her mouth and ordered her to lie down before he ransacked the whole house only to find US$5.
He then took the woman outside with the knife to her throat and instructed her to lead him to the main house.
He threatened to rape her and she revealed where she kept her money and he dragged her back into the house. Prosecutors said:

The two then went back inside the house where the accused took US$700.
He further laid the complainant on the bed and raped her twice before leaving the house.

Siyabu was arrested in Chegutu following police investigations and was taken to each of the houses he broke into for indications.
The police also managed to match his fingerprints with those obtained from the crime scene.
He is back in court this Thursday for plea recording.

Serial Robber, Rapist Pleads Guilty To 29 Counts

A 23-year-old suspected rapist was apprehended while chasing a minor girl into a Harare neighbourhood barely two weeks after he allegedly raped a 13-year-old girl.
The suspect, Freddie Kachirundu, appeared before Harare magistrate Donald Ndirowei charged with rape and unlawful entry.
He was not asked to plead and will return to court on 15 February for trial.
According to court papers seen by <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/rape-suspect-apprehended-while-running-after-another-minor-victim/">ZimLive</a>, on 14 January 2024, Kachirundu allegedly broke into a house in Harare’s Glen View suburb while the owners were sleeping. He raped a 13-year-old family member. Read the court papers:

On January 14, 2024, the complainant was sleeping in the dining room when she was awakened by the accused who pointed a knife at her.
</blockquote>
It is further alleged Kachirundu dragged the minor out to a secluded place about 200 mitres from her home and raped her once without protection.
He allegedly took his victim back to her home after the abuse. After returning to the house, Kachirundu allegedly stole a laptop and a gas stove before making his exit.
It is alleged that a few weeks later, Kachirundu tried to rape another girl whom he had lured into a maize field in the area.
The minor reportedly managed to escape after he had told her point-blank, he had intentions of raping her.
The girl fled into a residential area with Kachirundu in pursuit. He was spotted by his first victim who was assisted by the public to apprehend him.

Rape Suspect Arrested While Chasing Another Victim

A serial rapist, Goodwill Mhandu (21), was on Wednesday, 01 November sentenced to 34 years in prison for raping and robbing three women in Domboshava over a two-year period, reported <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/serial-rapist-jailed-34-years/">The Herald</a>.
Mhandu was convicted of three counts of rape and three counts of robbery by Harare regional magistrate Letwin Rwodzi.
The magistrate initially sentenced Mhandu to 72 years in jail for the six counts.
On the rape charges, Mhandu was sentenced to 15 years in jail on each one of the three counts.
However, Magistrate Rwodzi then set the sentences to run concurrently, giving an effective 15 years, the same as for a single offence.
For the first robbery, he was sentenced to 12 years in jail of which two years were suspended conditionally.
One more year was suspended on condition that he pay back what he stole by the end of November 2023.
On the second robbery charge he was again sentenced to 12 years in prison, but this time three years were suspended on condition of good behaviour when he comes out of jail.
On the third robbery count the sentence was 24 months and six months were suspended.
The three effective sentences of nine years, nine years and 18 months were added to give 19.5 years.
That term was added to the effective 15 years for rape to give the 34.5 years total.
Allegations were that in November 2022, Mhandu armed with a machete and iron bar, broke into Joina City Tuckshop in Domboshava where the complainant was sleeping.
He tied the shopkeeper’s hands and legs before raping her three times without protection after threatening to chop off her head with the machete.
After raping her, he ransacked the tuckshop and stole US$150, $5 000, groceries and two cellphones.
According to the State Papers Mhandu is HIV positive.
On 26 January 2022, Mhandu broke into another shop called Hot Dog situated in Domboshava and threatened the woman who worked there with a knife, demanding cash.
He hand­cuffed her and demanded that she surrender the shop keys. After forcing her into the shop he tied her legs with a rope before raping her twice without protection.
Mhandu then opened the cash box and stole US$500, $2 000 and two cell phones.
On 06 January 2023, Mhandu broke into another woman’s house armed with an axe and a machete and ordered her to remain silent or else he would kill her.
He stole US$6 from her wallet and assaulted her demanding more money. Mhandu then raped her four times before packing her groceries into a bag and fled.
Mhandu was later arrested after a tip-off.

Domboshava Serial Rapist Jailed 34 Years

A suspected rapist who targetted young girls in Glen View and Budiriro suburbs in Harare was arrested by police on Tuesday morning, <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/suspected-serial-rapist-arrested-in-harare-for-raping-16-girls/">reported The Herald</a>.
The suspect allegedly broke into houses and raped 16 girls in the two suburbs since September last year.
Fourteen of the alleged rape cases occurred in Glen View while the other two occurred in Budiriro.
His arrest comes after police in Harare recently warned residents that there was a serial rapist on the loose in these suburbs.
The suspect whose name is still being withheld was arrested on Tuesday, 14 January 2023 at Churu Farm, near Glen View 1.
He is believed to have raped girls aged between seven and 14 years.
In a statement last week, ZRP spokesperson for Harare Province, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, said police had received five similar rape cases which were reported. He was quoted as saying:

Police have noted with concern the number of rape cases involving a man targeting minor children for the past month.
The similarities of the cases in how the perpetrator breaks into houses and rapes minor children shows that it’s the same person.
In the latest five cases recorded, the perpetrator broke into houses, threatened the girls and asked if they had engaged in any sexual activities before. If the girls said no, he would rape them and then flee.

Suspected Serial Rapist Arrested In Harare For Raping 16 Girls

Police in Harare have warned residents that there is a serial rapist on the loose in the city’s western suburbs.
The rapist has been breaking into houses and raping girls in Glen View and Budiriro for the past month.
In a statement, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Harare Province, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, said five similar rape cases have been reported. He said:

Police have noted with concern the number of rape cases involving a man targeting minor children for the past month.
The similarities of the cases in how the perpetrator breaks into houses and rapes minor children shows that it’s the same person.
In five cases recorded, the perpetrator broke into houses, threatens the girls and asks if they have engaged in any sexual activities before.
If the girls say no, he rapes them and then flees.
</blockquote>
Insp Chakanza appealed for information that may lead to the arrest of the rapist.
He also implored parents to monitor their children. Said Insp Chakanza:

We are urging parents and guardians to closely monitor children day and night, especially those who sleep in separate rooms from them.
We are also appealing for information from members of the public that may lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.
