A sex worker from Zhombe, in Midlands Province, was bitten by a snake while she was being intimate with a “client” in a bush.
The incident occurred at Joel Shopping Centre when the sex worker had taken her client to a nearby bush for a session.
The lady, whose name could not be established, is admitted at Zhombe Mission Hospital where she is said to be in a stable condition.
The local traditional leader, Chief Weight Ndabezinhle Gwesela, confirmed the incident. He said:

It is true there was a woman who was bitten by a snake while having sex with her boyfriend in the bush. I heard the reports and I am told she is now recovering at the hospital.
</blockquote>
Chief Gwesela recently said poor harvests over the last farming season have pushed many girls in Zhombe into sex work and early marriages. He said:

What is worrying is these girls will be working for as little as a dollar or even a plate of sadza.
It is happening as people are facing hunger. So, they will be trying to make quick money thereby risking their lives.
The situation is bad in Zhombe and it has pushed many girls into prostitution and early marriages. The situation is forcing girls to turn to immorality.
As you are aware this is a gold-rich area and the illegal gold panners are now taking advantage to lure the young girls with money.

Ward 10 Junior Councillor Sithembinkosi Ncube said child prostitution was widespread in her ward. She said:

We have Joel Growth Point in our ward where child prostitution is rife.
Some of the girls were expelled from school for untoward behaviour and they turn to sex work.
Girls from the ward have become wild as they are lured with money by illegal gold miners.

Some male sex workers in Zimbabwe who attended a workshop in the capital called on the government to legitimise their operations.
In an interview with online publication 263Chat, some male sex workers said:
<blockquote>“They have a fancy name they call us that is ‘Ben10’. People should address us as male sex workers because we are earning through this and it should be acceptable. In parliament they say they cannot deal with our problems but it’s funny because some of those government officials are the ones who come after us at night and pay for sex.
Government should recognize and put policies to legalize male sex workers because believe it or not , the policy makers are also involved in this business,</blockquote>

Addressing the workshop the National coordinator for the Zimbabwe AIDS Network Taurayi Nyandoro said:
<blockquote>There is need for the government to deal with these issues head on.  Key populations must access services too because they are humans who are entitled to human rights. Men who are sleeping with men constitute 29% of the population that is  spreading new infections yet the society is not ready to deal with that. Already they do not accept female sex workers, the government wants to decriminalize them of which they are the careers of HIV. Lets give them access to information and services so that they can protect themselves and others and together we can achieve the 90,90,90s goal by 2030,</blockquote>
