A 27-year-old man from Mbembesi, Matabeleland North Province, has been arrested for rape after allegedly refusing to pay a sex worker US$5 for her services, reported <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200034211/man-in-trouble-for-refusing-to-pay-sex-worker">NewsDay</a>.
The accused, Gracious Lamula, pleaded not guilty to the charges during his appearance before Bulawayo Regional Magistrate Dambudzo Malunga on Thursday.
Lamula allegedly raped a 47-year-old woman after refusing to pay for her services. He was remanded in custody until this Monday.
In his defence, Lamula claimed that he had initially agreed to hire the sex worker for US$5 but was being framed for rape after he delayed in providing an additional payment of US$5. He said:

The complaint and I agreed to have sex together and I was going to pay her US$5. After our encounter, she asked for another US$5 which I promised to give her the next day and now she is accusing me of raping her.

The court heard that on May 8, 2024, the two had been drinking beer together at Fingo Business Centre in Mbembesi.
After sharing a few drinks, they allegedly agreed to go to Lamula’s residence for the night. However, it is claimed that along the way, Lamula raped the woman.

Man (27) Arrested For "Raping" A Sex Worker

A sex worker who had been hired for a one-night-stand in Bulawayo allegedly ganged up with her male colleague to rob her client of cash and his mobile phone, <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/sex-worker-connives-with-lover-to-rob-client-of-cash-cell-phone/">reported ZimLive</a>.
This came out when the lady of the night, Cynthia Sibanda (32), and her boyfriend, Mthulisi Mkandla (31), both from the Sauerstown suburb recently appeared at the Bulawayo Magistrates’ Court.
Prosecutors told the court that on 30 December 2023, Sibanda and Mkandla connived to rob Melody Lunga (36) of Khami Prison Complex at knifepoint.
Lunga allegedly hooked up with Sibanda at Manor Hotel during a drinking spree and paid US$20 to secure her sex services for the night.
The pair then boarded a lift, described as a Honda Fit, to Sauerstown, Sibanda’s home.
However, Lunga was unaware that one of the passengers in the vehicle was Mkandla a boyfriend to Sibanda.
When they got to their bus stop, Mkandla disembarked from the vehicle together with Sibanda and Lunga but followed the two from a distance.
It is further alleged that Mkandla then attacked Lunga, strangling him and producing a knife while demanding cash and a cell phone.
Mkandla allegedly “searched the complainant, took his wallet and an Itel A70 cell phone before ordering him to go away”.
Lunga then made a police report leading to the arrest of the duo.
The value of the stolen property was US$110 and was recovered.
Sibanda and and Mkandla were granted US$100 bail each after appearing in court charged for robbery.
They are expected to appear before Bulawayo magistrate Maxwell Ncube on 06 February 2024 for trial.
Several incidents of sex workers robbing clients have been reported over the past few years.
In October 2022, <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200001871/sex-workers-rob-client">five sex workers operating from Harare’s avenues</a> area allegedly accused their client of messing their sheets and forced him to pay US$800 in damages.
The suspects, Aisha Marira, Manford Ngomo, Belinda Zuze, Rutendo Chivhuta and Natasha Moyo appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi charged for robbery.

Sex Worker And Boyfriend Rob Client Of Cash, Cell Phone

A security guard in Mutoko lost his service pistol to a prostitute after failing to pay for her “services”, reported <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200022006/guard-loses-pistol-to-sex-worker">NewsDay</a>.
The security guard, Evidence Mangonono (27), had hired the woman only identified as Choice and had sex with her near a bank where he was guarding.
It is alleged that Choice took the pistol after Mangonono had failed to pay for her services.
Mangonono appeared at the Mutoko Magistrates Courts before magistrate Chiedza Gatsi charged with violating the Firearms Act.
Gatsi initially sentenced Mangonono to a year in prison before suspending the custodial sentence on the condition that he perform 325 hours of community service at Hurungwe Primary School in Murewa.
It was the State’s case that on 07 January 2024, Mangonono drank sex-enhancing herbs with his colleagues and hired the “sex worker”.
He had sexual intercourse with the woman at the back of the bank he was guarding.
Mangonono, however, failed to pay for the service, prompting the woman to take his service pistol as collateral.
The next day his company discovered that his service gun was missing and filed a police report.
Mangonono scrounged for money and later made a follow-up and paid Choice to recover the gun.
The Firearms Act is a law regulating and controlling the possession, sale, repair and manufacture of firearms and ammunition. It aims to ensure public safety and prevent the misuse of firearms.

Security Guard Surrenders Service Pistol To Sex Worker As Collateral

A 31-year-old sex worker and her live-in boyfriend allegedly fatally assaulted a client who had refused to pay US$5 upfront for her services, reported <a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/sex-worker-boyfriend-murder-client-over-us5-quickie/">The Manica Post</a>.
The suspects, Fungai Kufakwatenzi of Pfupi Village in Buhera and her boyfriend, Onesimo Tonha Chamutsa (34) of Svutubhureki Village, Bikita, appeared before Chipinge magistrate, Alfred Chinembiri facing murder charges on Tuesday.
The two allegedly killed Wellington Mupfuti who had hired Kufakwatenzi for a quickie (an act of sexual intercourse that is done in a very short amount of time).
Kufakwatenzi and Chamutsa were not asked to plead and were advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
They were remanded in custody to December 11 2023.
Prosecuting, Edmore Mahlanganise alleged that on 26 November 2023, Mupfuti was at a nightclub at Birchenough Bridge Growth Point and drinking beer with Kufakwatenzi. Said Mahlanganise:

As they were drinking beer, Mupfuti solicited for intimacy and Kufakwatenzi charged him US$5 for a quickie.
Mupfuti and Kufakwatenzi then left the nightclub, heading to the now deceased’s lodgings.
On their way, Kufakwatenzi demanded cash up front, but Mupfuti refused to give her the money.
He insisted that he would pay after receiving the services. A misunderstanding ensued.
The now deceased got furious and pushed Kufakwatenzi to the wall.
Kufakwatenzi allegedly withdrew a knife from her bra and stabbed Mupfuti once on the right side of the forehead and once on the right shoulder.
During the scuffle, Kufakwatenzi’s boyfriend, Chamutsa, arrived at the scene.
Kufakwatenzi handed over the knife to Chamutsa and he stabbed Mupfuti once on the neck and once on the back.
Mupfuti bled profusely from the neck and his clothes were soaked with blood.
A police officer, Cannan Zaranyika who was coming from the Save Beach Party heard Mupfuti’s cries for help and rushed to the scene where he found Kufakwatenzi and Chamutsa holding Mupfuti.
Kufakwatenzi and Chamutsa tried to ran away, but Zaranyika managed to apprehend them.
Zaranyika rendered Mupfuti first aid and took him to Birchenough Bridge Hospital where he died upon admission.

Sex Worker, Boyfriend Kill Client During Dispute Over A "Quickie'

A 20-year-old Chinhoyi-based sex worker was ordered to perform unpaid work by a local magistrate for bedding a minor, reported <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/thigh-vendor-escapes-jail-term-for-bedding-juvenile/">H-Metro</a>.
Mercy Chisvo of Lions Den’s Chinhoyi appeared before Chinhoyi magistrate Lisa Mutendereki, who found her guilty of having sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old boy.
Mutendereki sentenced Chisvo to six months imprisonment, which was commuted to 210 hours of community service.
Prosecuting, Knight Rwodzi said that on 23 June, the boy attended a musical show at Mukanya’s Bar where he met Mercy soliciting for clients.
The two agreed to have sex and Mercy charged the boy US$5 and they went to her lodging.
The boy had no cash and surrendered his Huawei cellphone to Mercy after he promised to pay her the following day.
On 25 June, the boy went to give Mercy US$5 so that he could collect his cellphone, but she refused to accept it.
The teenager then made a police report resulting in Mercy’s arrest.

A sex worker from Zhombe, in Midlands Province, was bitten by a snake while she was being intimate with a “client” in a bush.
The incident occurred at Joel Shopping Centre when the sex worker had taken her client to a nearby bush for a session.
The lady, whose name could not be established, is admitted at Zhombe Mission Hospital where she is said to be in a stable condition.
The local traditional leader, Chief Weight Ndabezinhle Gwesela, confirmed the incident. He said:

It is true there was a woman who was bitten by a snake while having sex with her boyfriend in the bush. I heard the reports and I am told she is now recovering at the hospital.

Chief Gwesela recently said poor harvests over the last farming season have pushed many girls in Zhombe into sex work and early marriages. He said:

What is worrying is these girls will be working for as little as a dollar or even a plate of sadza.
It is happening as people are facing hunger. So, they will be trying to make quick money thereby risking their lives.
The situation is bad in Zhombe and it has pushed many girls into prostitution and early marriages. The situation is forcing girls to turn to immorality.
As you are aware this is a gold-rich area and the illegal gold panners are now taking advantage to lure the young girls with money.

Ward 10 Junior Councillor Sithembinkosi Ncube said child prostitution was widespread in her ward. She said:

We have Joel Growth Point in our ward where child prostitution is rife.
Some of the girls were expelled from school for untoward behaviour and they turn to sex work.
Girls from the ward have become wild as they are lured with money by illegal gold miners.

Sex Worker Bitten By Snake While Being Intimate In The Bush

A commercial sex worker was robbed and killed by two clients she had offered sex to in Bikita, Masvingo Province, on Thursday.
Police said that the victim, aged 24, had offered her services to the two men, who after satisfying their appetites, demanded the money they had paid her, assaulted severely her, and took the money.
The woman died the following day as a result of the injuries she suffered during the assault. Police said:

The ZRP is investigating a murder case where a woman (24) was attacked by two unknown male suspects whom she had offered sex at a charge of US$20 at Makaya Village, Bikita, on 17/11/22.
After the act, the suspects allegedly demanded the money they had paid for the services before severely assaulting the victim with sticks and robbing her of US$20.
The victim succumbed to the injuries sustained on 18/11/22.

In another murder case, police in Epworth arrested Innocent Zamura (34) for allegedly killing a 22-year-old man after he saw him walking with his ex-wife. Police said in a statement:

On 17/11/22, ZRP Epworth arrested Innocent Zaruma (34) for a murder case in which he attacked his ex-wife, Talent Simba (23), and Surance Sithole (22) after he had found the two walking together near Mabvazuva Secondary school in Epworth, Harare on 16/11/22.
The suspect stabbed Surance Sithole once in the stomach before dragging his ex-wife to an unknown place, leaving the victim with protruding intestines.
The victim was rushed to Parirenyatwa Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Two Men Rob And Kill Sex Worker In Bikita

A 46-year-old Chitungwiza man died on 3 November while being intimate with a sex worker, police revealed this week.
Denis Chikabura visited Petronella Musanda’s residence in Zengeza 5 soliciting transactional sex.
It is alleged that while in the act, Chikabura had difficulties in breathing, leading to froth and blood coming from his nose.
Musanda reportedly informed the deceased’s young brother, Tirivangani Chikabura, who then ferried him to the hospital where he was declared dead upon arrival. A police report said:

A report was made at ZRP Zengeza and the scene was attended by the ZRP Zengeza team led by Number 062476H Sgt Vukomba contactable on 0772 492 007. No visible injuries were noted on the deceased’s body.
At the scene there was a blanket, two pillows with some blood stains and these were taken to ZRP Zengeza as exhibits.
The deceased was taken to Chitungwiza Central Hospital mortuary number 976/22 for post-mortem.
