Six female teachers stationed at Tshabili Primary School in Beitbridge East have fled their workplace after they were allegedly sexually abused by “goblins”.
Goblins are thought to be small, ugly, supernatural creatures, regarded as malevolent towards human beings.
According to a report by the <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/southerneye/local/article/200018363/goblins-terrorise-beitbridge-teachers">Southern Eye</a>, the affected teachers claimed they were sexually violated at night.
Some of the victims have reportedly refused to return to the school until rituals are conducted to get rid of the alleged goblins.
Tshabili Primary School is located about 60km east of the border town
Beitbridge district development co-ordinator Sikhangezile Mafu-Moyo confirmed to the Southern Eye that she was aware of the matter. She said:

I understand a meeting is on tomorrow (today) between my office, education officials, the school staff and the community.
I am in Bulawayo on a different assignment but I have been informed of the issue.
</blockquote>
District Education Officer (DEO) Freedom Muleya also confirmed that a meeting was to be convened over the issue. Said Muleya:

Officials from our office will attend the meeting. This is not an issue our office can solve, it’s something to do with the community, traditional leadership and the local authority. These reports were made as early as January.
</blockquote>
The victims reported at the district education offices, the local district council offices and Mafu-Moyo’s office on Thursday and narrated their ordeal.
Majili Primary School in Bubi District, Matabeleland North province, was briefly shut down in June 2022 after alleged goblins molested female teachers.

Alleged Goblins Harass Female Teachers At Beitbridge School

Power FM station manager, Scott Matengambiri, better known as DJ Scott, has been suspended by ZBC for allegedly demanding oral sex from a female subordinate.
<a href="https://www.zimlive.com/power-fm-boss-dj-scott-suspended-for-sex-advances-on-subordinate/">ZimLive</a> reported ZBC sources as saying a complaint of sexual harassment was made against Matengambiri.
The radio personality allegedly pestered a young female employee for oral sex in return for offering her a job.
Matengambiri is reportedly planning to tender his resignation to avoid appearing before ZBC’s human resources department for a disciplinary hearing.
ZBC chief executive officer Adelaide Chikunguru refused to comment when approached by ZimLive.
Matengambiri, who has been a ZBC employee for nearly two decades, hosts a popular radio show in which he advises listeners on how to handle difficult love situations.
The popular radio personality is, however, not the first ZBC top employee to be involved in a sex scandal within a week.
ZBC radio services director Robson Mhandu was also suspended last week for allegedly demanding sex from a subordinate, Farai Juliet Magada.
Mhandu, who once contested elections on a ZANU PF ticket, is reportedly determined to fight his case.

Power FM Boss DJ Scott Suspended Over Sexual Harassment

A group of family members and relatives of Chief Fortune Charumbira have reportedly claimed a deep-seated family feud and a protracted chieftainship wrangle could be behind allegations of sexual assault levelled against the traditional leader.
Charumbira, who is the president of the Pan African Parliament (PAP) and the president of the Chiefs Council, is accused of indecently assaulting a married woman who is said to be his niece early this year.
The group of family members and relatives have written a document in Chief Charumbira’s defence which they say will be filed with the police.
In the document that has been leaked to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/thestandard/news/article/200012967/charumbira-sex-attack-saga-deepens">The Standard</a>, the family said after investigating events surrounding the allegations against Charumbira, indications were that there is an attempt to destroy his career. Part of the document reads:

Charumbira’s accuser is a distant fifth-generation questionable niece and there are murky family roots between the pair.
The relationship between the pair cannot be traced to the great Charumbira progenitors, Mudavanhu and Chainda who are widely known to be the great ancestors of the Sipambi clan with Chief Charumbira being the two progenitors’ direct descendant.
</blockquote>
Charumbira’s family further alleged that the victim’s family is working with a prominent South African businesswoman and a former MP in Botswana (name withheld) to topple Charumbira from his post at PAP using the alleged sexual assault case. Reads the document:

They wanted to replace Charumbira with one of the four PAP vice presidents, (name supplied), who is also a close ally of the SA businesswoman.
We have information that the victim’s family has created a WhatsApp group titled “Sky Media 206” and has also created a fake Twitter account to coordinate the hysteric attacks against Charumbira.

The family also claimed that before the reported sexual assault incident in March, an unnamed woman in Masvingo was approached by Charumbira’s rivals to make sexual advances to him and to take his nude pictures in return for a house and a car. Reads the document:

It has emerged that these are the same people who, after failing in their initial attempt, engineered this recent sexual assault case.
Her (the victim’s) father was at one time a campaign manager of one of Charumbira’s known political nemesis in Masvingo West and that does not escape us as a possible motive to destroy the chief.
The father is also involved in the chieftainship wrangles pitting Charumbira and his foes that are out to dethrone him.
The victim’s mother (name withheld), a school headmistress also in Masvingo Province, has been very inactive in the case, a situation that raises eyebrows.

According to a leaked police memorandum, Charumbira allegedly sexually assaulted the complainant on two separate occasions.
He allegedly fondled the complainant’s breasts, kissed her without her consent, and groped her private parts.
The alleged assault took place at Rainbow Towers Hotel on 31 March this year and on 02 April at Crown Plaza Hotel, respectively.

Sexual Harassment Allegations Plot To Destroy Chief Charumbira - Family

A married female teacher based in Masvingo who claims she was sexually assaulted by Zimbabwe Chiefs’ Council president Fortune Charumbira has written a letter of complaint against the police for failing to act on her earlier report.
The victim, who cannot be named for ethical reasons, also filed another charge of victimisation by Charumbira, who is also the president of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP).
Charumbira has denied sexually abusing the complainant describing the allegations as a smear campaign and instead threatened to sue the complainant for defamation.
The victim reported the matter at Masvingo Central Police Station under RRB 5457646 in April this year.
However, Charumbira has reportedly not yet been arrested or questioned by the police over the matter.
On 05 June 2023, the victim wrote a letter to the officer commanding Masvingo province, Chief Superintendent David Mahoya, alleging that Charumbira has threatened violence against her. She wrote:

On April 18, 2023, I made a police report of threats of violence as defined in Section 186(1)(b) of the Criminal Law [Codification and Reform] Act [Chapter 09:23] alternatively contravening section 184(1)(e) of the Criminal Law [Codification and Reform] Act [Chapter 09:23].
The accused person is (Chief) Fortune Charumbira currently the Zimbabwean president of the Chiefs Council, the Pan Africanist Parliament (PAP) president.
Initially, I had filed a report against the accused person for contravening section 67(1)(a)(1) refers ZRP Masvingo Central CR56-58/04/23.
Since I made the report, the accused person has never been arrested and I am not informed of any judicial proceedings in respect of my case.
It seems as if the law is being selective on certain individuals towards discriminating against its citizens.
Women and girls shall continue to suffer at the hands of such callous bulldogs who are immune to arrest.
</blockquote>
The victim alleged that Charumbira sent her a series of WhatsApp messages threatening her with violence. She wrote:
<blockquote>
The accused person sent a series of WhatsApp messages using his mobile number (supplied) to my mobile number (supplied) threatening to deal with me wherever I go claiming that he knew everything about my personal life plans.
The accused person further alleged that I am affiliated with CCC [Citizens Coalition for Change] political party which I have no material knowledge or interest and this was meant to intimidate and threaten me.
Since that day I am living in desperation and fear of being victimised together with my family.
I am not certain of my future social life and work environment as the accused severally indicated to me that he is a connected someone person of his calibre do not approach people the ordinary way (sic).

When contacted for a comment by <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200012773/charumbira-sex-attack-victim-claims-victimisation">NewsDay</a>, Chief Superintendent Mahoya said he had not seen the letter and referred questions to provincial spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dewa.
Dewa said he was not on duty and further referred NewsDay to provincial police deputy spokesperson Lorraine Ndlovu. In response, Ndlovu said:

We have not yet received the letter. However, the victim filed the case here in Masvingo but the matter was transferred to Harare province where the incident is reported to have happened. So Harare police are dealing with the case.

Chief Charumbira's Alleged Sexual Assault Victim Claims Victimisation

FIFA is investigating a second ZIFA official over sexual harassment allegations following former referees boss Obert Zhoya’s five-year ban imposed by the world football governing body in 2022.
This was revealed by the Minister of Sports Kirsty Coventry when she appeared before parliamentarians on Wednesday to respond to questions on Zimbabwe’s ban from international football.
According to the <a href="https://www.theindependent.co.zw/sport/article/200009563/fifa-probe-zifa-board-member">Zimbabwe Independent</a>, Coventry reiterated that there was no way back for the ZIFA board members that were dismissed by the SRC.
The suspended officials include Felton Kamambo, Bryton Malandule, Philemon Machana and Stanley Chapeta. Said Coventry:

For clarity, the reasons that the SRC stepped in and suspended the board were three main reasons.
The first reason was that Government had given ZIFA about US$2 million which has never been accounted for.
Secondly, four female referees have come forward and given their statements to the police and they have been investigated. Three of those members were on the board.
One of those members has already received a lifetime ban from FIFA from their own investigations that have been done over the last two months with an S25 000 fine.
FIFA is now investigating the second member that was on the board that was sexually abusing and harassing these women.
FIFA knew that this was happening in 2018/19 when these women filed an appeal with FIFA and got no response.
They then came to Government, – SRC, Government and my office worked together with these women to ensure that police reports were done and statements were made.
We then went back to FIFA and CAF and we requested for them to step in but they refused.
We then stepped in and suspended the executive for the things that I have just shared with Members of Parliament, which I have shared previously.

FIFA found Zhoya guilty of sexually harassing three female referees and banned him as well as fining him US$20 000.
Meanwhile, Coventry said the government has accepted FIFA’s decision to suspend Zimbabwe from international football. She added:
<blockquote>
We have never asked them to lift it (the ban). We do not want them to lift it at this point until we have cleared and cleaned up our soccer.

FIFA Probes ZIFA Board Member Over Sexual Harassment Allegations

Eighteen-year-old model Makanaka “Melladiorr” Melissa said she is dedicated to transforming the profession to ensure that the rampant sexual harassment that models can face comes to an end.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/model-fights-against-sexual-harassment/">H-Metro</a>, the Upper Sixth student said there is a need to change the negative perception towards women. She said:
<blockquote>
I am inspired by the need to change the community and industry as a whole.
I want to advocate for the girl child through the professionalism of art and I will use it to show how women hold the same power as men and, hopefully, this would eradicate some of these societal ills.
The industry at times can be a very unsafe place for the girl child because, rather than being viewed as creatives, we are often manipulated.
We are manipulated into thinking that being in intimate relationships with the sponsors will increase our popularity and make it possible to earn certain amounts but I am a firm believer in morals, self-respect and hard work to achieve success.
</blockquote>
She said she wants to work together with other models to find ways to eradicate girl child abuse in the industry and outside the industry too. Said Melladiorr:

Girls deserve the same freedom just as the boy child does without returning any sexual favours.
</blockquote>
Makanaka Melissa acquired her training from 106 Models. She has worked with EatnLick, ZIMA Awards, Model Guide, and as a brand ambassador for Footwear Plaza and as a video vixen for music videos. She said:

As a person, you should be disciplined. I do things on time and I work with a schedule.
I have time for school work and I have time for my profession but always put school first.
All aspiring models should dare to be different and not lose their moral values for fame.

Teen Model Vows To Fight Sexual Harassment

Lawyers representing 25 members of the opposition CCC who were arrested last week in Harare’s Budiriro suburb said their female clients were molested en route to the Harare magistrates court.
The lawyers accused the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) wardens of transporting female prisoners in the same van with male prisoners who are not CCC members, which resulted in the females being fondled along the way.
The lawyers, Wilbert Mandinde, Kudzai Kadzere and Chris Mhike also alleged that one of the accused persons contracted coronavirus while in prison and has been isolated for 10 days.
Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda ordered the State to investigate the abuse and bring the report to court by Friday.
The CCC members were arrested for allegedly holding a political gathering in Harare without police clearance.
Allegations are that on 14 January 2023, the accused persons responded to an invitation for a meeting at Budiriro MP Costa Machingauta’s house.
Prosecutors submitted that ZRP Budiriro received a tip-off that the accused were gathered illegally and went to investigate. 
<blockquote>
Upon arrival at the scene of the crime, the police observed that the accused’s conduct was disturbing the peace of a section of members of the public.
The police ordered the accused persons to disperse, but they resisted leading to their arrest. The accused had no lawful excuse to act in the manner they did.

Female CCC Members Fondled In Prison Vehicle - Lawyers

Lobels Biscuits Company in Bulawayo’s chief operations officer (COO) Andrew Dinhidza has been arrested for allegedly sexually attacking several female subordinates who feared losing their jobs.
B-Metro reported a source as saying four women had since filed rape charges against Dinhidza.
<h2>Complainant One</h2>
According to the B-Metro source, one of the victims is a 29-year-old woman who is employed as a packer. Said the source:
<blockquote>
Sometime in 2017, the 29-year-old woman went to look for a job at Lobels Biscuits Company at the time Dinhidza was the Human Resources Manager and he recruited her.
After that, he approached her demanding payment for employing her. At first, she turned down his request, but he threatened to expel her, forcing her to give in and slept with him.
Sometime in October this year, the woman said Dinhidza called her to his office and demanded to have sex with her and she did not resist because she was afraid of losing her job.
</blockquote>
The woman then reported the rape incidents at Kumalo Police station after protests were recently staged against Dinhidza over allegations of nepotism and sexual harassment.
<h2>Complainant Two</h2>
The alleged rape victim is a 33-year-old woman who resides in Nkulumane suburb.
Allegations are that the woman failed to report for duty for two consecutive days.
When she eventually reported for duty she informed her immediate supervisor who allegedly turned her away. Said the source:
<blockquote>
Desperate for her job, she approached Dinhidza who told her that if she wanted to save her job she must have sex with him and she agreed before they had sex in his office and her job was saved.
</blockquote>
The victim reported the alleged rape at Donnington Police Station on Tuesday last week.
<h2>Complainant Three</h2>
A 40-year-old woman from Entumbane suburb was allegedly sexually attacked by Dinhidza when he called her to his office and asked her if she wanted to be employed permanently.
<blockquote>
He promised the complainant that if she wants to be employed as a permanent worker she has to sleep with him and she agreed before he drove to a lodge in the city centre and had sex with her.
</blockquote>
It is further alleged that the two had sex on another occasion in Dinhidza car near the company premises.
However, Dinhidza reportedly never fulfilled his promise.
On 7 December the woman joined a protest against all forms of abuse and later filed a rape case against Dinhidza at Bulawayo Central Police Station.
<h2>Complainant Four</h2>
A 37-year-old woman who is employed as a machine operator reportedly fell prey to Dinhidza after she approached him to have her husband who had been fired reinstated. Said the source:
<blockquote>
She approached Dinhidza in his office and pleaded with him to have her husband re-hired but Dinhidza told her that he could only be reinstated on condition that she had sex with him and she bowed down to the demands and had sex with him. After that, the victim’s husband was re-hired.
On another occasion, he picked her up at the company premises and had sex with her at a lodge.

The woman reported the alleged rape cases at Donnington Police Station on 7 December 2022 leading to Dinhidza’s arrest.

Lobels Boss Arrested Over Sexual Harassment

Workers at the Lobels Biscuits Belmont plant on Wednesday staged a demonstration at the company’s premises against alleged sexual harassment, nepotism, and low wages among other complaints.
The workers accuse the management of ignoring their grievances for a long time, hence the decision to embark on job action.
The employees accuse the chief operating officer Andrew Dinhidza of employing his relatives and children in most of the senior positions at the company.
One worker who refused to be named for fear of victimisation told <a href="https://cite.org.zw/lobels-workers-stage-demo-want-coo-sacked/">CITE</a> that workers are also being subjected to sexual harassment. Said the worker:
<blockquote>
We are experiencing quite a number of problems here, ranging from poor working conditions, ill-treatment, sexual abuse, low wages and failure to backdate our salaries from 2020. However, nepotism and sexual abuse seem to have worsened our plight here.
Dinhidza has given all managerial and supervisor posts to his relatives and sons who do not even qualify to occupy those positions. That’s why we are saying he should go.
There is a lot of sexual abuse and victimization here. It’s hard to keep your job because there are too many conditions or else you lose your job.
If they fire you for you to come back they ask you to meet in town for talks so that they ask for sexual favours. We are tired of being used, Dinhidza should go.
</blockquote>
Proper Mahachi, who is the former Lobels Biscuit workers union chair, and was reportedly fired for pushing for better working conditions, said:
<blockquote>
We were dismissed for knowing our right, we stood for the workers, and we were dismissed without any benefit and pay.
I was fired for engaging other stakeholders like the Gender Commission and the Zimbabwe Federations of Trade Union, because we knew our rights.
I am happy the workers have finally got tired of this abuse and they have stood for their rights.
</blockquote>
Zimbabwe Federations of Trade Union (ZFTU) spokesperson Pardon Mangena who was present at the demonstration, said:
<blockquote>
We were approached by these workers raising a number of issues. One of the most outstanding issues was that of nepotism, where a whole CEO employs relatives and son, without even advertising the posts.
Promotions are just being done without following proper procedures and most of them do not qualify for those posts.
I am made to believe that since 2020 there has been a huge backlog of salaries and the employer is not forthcoming on the matter.
There are issues of sexual abuse where many women have raised alarm but nothing has been done to address the matter.
Surprisingly the Managing director has failed to investigate all these matters that have been raised here.
It’s sad that such a big company with over 600 workers can be run like a tuck shop.

Mangena also noted that the workers were not happy with the company’s decision to deduct 15 percent from their salaries following an armed robbery that took place.

Lobels Workers Stage Demo Over Alleged Sexual Harassment, Low Wages

Kutsime Talk Show got a little heated when the issue of ‘dressing’ and sexual harassment was brought up. Three ladies agreed that they should be allowed to dress as they please whilst one man on the show argued that women were probably going too far.
Nomaliso Musasiwa, one of the panellists said:
<blockquote>Lack of Morals is not Normalcy! They (men) should have morals, then we can discuss bounds of acting normal or abnormal.</blockquote>
Some argue that dressing has a huge bearing on sexual harassment. Meanwhile, it is important to note that sexual harassment is a broad concept.
While sexual harassment may include rape, street harassment is considered harassment done primarily by acts, sexist slurs, wolf-whistling, catcalling, intrusive gazing, cursing, persistent telling of sexual jokes in public or online, persistent sexual advances, and touching by strangers, in public areas such as streets, shopping malls and public transportation.
