Simba Bhora has clinched the 2024 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) championship with two games to spare after beating relegated Arenel Movers 1-0 at Luveve Stadium on Wednesday.
This remarkable achievement comes in only their second season in the top flight, making them the first club from Mashonaland Central Province to win the title.
The Shamva-based club made significant investments in building Wadzanayi Stadium, where they have maintained an unbeaten record this season.
Captain Walter Musona scored the decisive goal in the 10th minute, marking his 10th goal of the season and securing three points for the Tonderai Ndiraya-coached team.
With this victory, Simba Bhora reached an unassailable total of 66 points, effectively wrapping up the season with two games still to play.
Second-placed FC Platinum remain on 57 points after their victory over Bulawayo Chiefs at Mandava, meaning they can no longer catch up to Simba Bhora.
In his post-match comments, Ndiraya, who previously fell short of the title with Ngezi Platinum Stars and Dynamos, expressed gratitude to the club’s management, including president Simba Ndoro, the board, the executive committee, the technical team, the secretariat, and the players for their contributions to this historic achievement. Said Ndiraya:

We are very excited as a club to have won the championship. We are excited about what we have done throughout the season.
I think this should be our 21st win, I am not too sure, but that was our target. We knew that if we get between 20 and 22 wins, we would be champions. I am glad that in the end, we managed to do so.
We give credit to our management, the president himself, Simbarashe Ndoro, the board, the executive committee, the technical team, the secretariat and the players.
The players were the ones doing the job and our supporters have always been there for us and we have done this together so this championship is for the entire province.
It’s the first championship to be won in the province and I am very happy that we have made history.
Lastly, I want to thank my family and everyone who supported me during this difficult journey.
This is for us together and what’s left is for us to plan the celebrations. From that, we also want to finish on a high, we are on 66 points.
We want to finish on 72, and probably break a record in recent times.

Premier Soccer League (PSL) newcomers Simba Bhora have reportedly appointed former Dynamos chairman Isaiah Mupfurutsa their new chairman.
Simba Bhora recently appointed former Dynamos head coach Tonderai Ndiraya to a similar role at the club, with former Dynamos captain Partson Jaure also expected to be unveiled soon.
This means that Simba Bhora are set to acquire the entire ex-Dynamos’ leadership from chairman to head coach and captain.
The Shamva-based club have also signed former Dynamos midfielder Keith Murera and another former Glamour Boys player, Blessing Moyo, who left reigning champions FC Platinum.
Former Warriors forward Talent Chawapiwa is among the new signings at Simba after his recent return from South Africa.
The 2022 Northern Region Soccer League champions have shown the exit door to former CAPS United skipper Hardlife Zvirekwi, last season’s captain Brighton Tuwaya, left-back Dexter Phiri, midfielders Langton Chavinda and Rafael Manuvire, as well as veteran striker Honey Chimutimunzeve.

Former Dynamos Chairman Joins Trek To Simba Bhora

The Deputy Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation, Tino Machakaire has said the promotion of Green Fuel and Simba Bhora into the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League will benefit the nation as topflight football will be played in Shamva and Chisumbanje, respectively, for the first time. He said:

The promotion of Simba Bhora and Greenfuel is good for the nation because it spreads football to all corners and helps the youth to find something to do as well as the provinces – they will have benefits from hosting matches thereby spurring the development of those areas.

Green Fuel Football Club is based in Chisumbanje and the club’s promotion will allow the local community to have the PSL matchday experience in their backyard for the first time, provided their home ground meets the standard.
Chisumbanje is located about 500 kilometres from Harare and Greenfuel, which is coached by former Dynamos gaffer Lloyd Mutasa, has started constructing a grandstand at their Football Arena in preparation for hosting PSL matches.
Simba Bhora gained promotion into PSL after winning the Northern Region Division One League title.
