A 20-year-old woman has been charged with murder following the alleged fatal assault of her stepdaughter in Mabvuku, Harare, last month.
According to a statement from the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the woman was arrested after a video of the assault circulated on social media.
The woman attempted to cover up the crime by claiming that evil spirits attacked the minor and thereafter took the child to a self-proclaimed prophet in Ruwa, where she died. The statement reads:

The ZRP confirms the arrest of Memory Moyana (20) in connection with a case of murder. The arrest follows a disturbing video circulating on social media, showing a woman brutally assaulting a naked minor in the toilet.
The incident occurred on 16/12/24 at a house along Hunga Street, Chizhanje, Mabvuku, Harare.
Preliminary investigations by the Police reveal that the suspect, who was the victim’s stepmother, attempted to cover up the heinous crime by claiming that the minor had been attacked by evil spirits.
As a result, the baby was taken to a self-proclaimed prophet in Ruwa, where she tragically died.
The suspect and her husband, Talent Muchato (26) tried to secretly bury the victim at Mutinhima Village, Nyazura on 17/12/24. A concerned citizen later made a report to the Police.

20-Year-Old Mabvuku Woman Fatally Assaults Stepdaughter

A 22-year-old man from Beitbridge appeared before the Beitbridge Magistrates Court on charges of attempted rape. He had been arrested for trying to rape his stepmother on Sunday morning.
The accused, whose name has not been disclosed, was convicted of the offence and sentenced to 15 years in prison.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), on September 15, 2024, at around 6 AM, the complainant was lying in her blankets in her bedroom when the accused knocked on her door and was permitted to enter. Said the NPA:

He asked for washing powder and the complainant told him that she would give him money to go and buy some later.
He returned a while later and opened the door without knocking, peeped and shut the door before he left.
He returned once more, hurriedly opened the door and walked towards the complainant who was still in her blankets.
He moved around the room, closed the door and the complainant immediately jumped out of the bed and stood on feet.
The accused person pulled down his trousers, charged towards the complainant and tripped her. He removed the complainant’s skirt and tried to rape her.
While they were wrestling, a neighbour who was outside shouted the accused person’s name to stop what he was doing.

The accused stopped his actions upon hearing more neighbours gathering outside. A police report was subsequently filed, leading to his arrest.

A 22-year-old man from Beitbridge tried to rape his stepmother and was sentenced to 15 years in jail. He asked for washing powder, then tried to rape her in her bedroom when she refused. A neighbor shouted for him to stop, and he was eventually arrested.

Beitbridge Man (22) Jailed 15 Years For Attempting To Rape Stepmother

A man from Bikita in Masvingo Province was last week sentenced to 36 years imprisonment after he was convicted of raping his 9-year-old stepdaughter on several occasions.
According to NewZimbabwe.com, the paedophile repeatedly raped her whenever he was left to look after the girl and her siblings at Shumba village.
The abuse initially came to light after his five-year-old daughter found him raping the nine-year-old in their kitchen hut.
Their mother had left her husband with the two girls and a 16-month-old toddler while she fetched water at a nearby borehole.
According to court papers, the five-year-old girl threatened to tell her mother what she had witnessed but the father started threatening to stab her if she ever revealed what had happened.
The mother then walked in and confronted her husband over what had happened.
She then realised that her daughter had been raped as there was semen on a towel he had spread on the floor. Reads the court papers:

The five-year-old sister walked in as he was in the act and told him that she was going to tell their mother. The accused also threatened to stab her with a knife.
The complainant’s mother walked in, found him threatening the 5-year-old and saw the sperm on the towel that he had spread on the floor where he raped the complainant.
He pleaded with her and asked for forgiveness.

The mother apparently forgave her husband for raping his stepdaughter but he again raped the victim in December 2022 when the mother went to visit an aunt in the same village.
The girl then confessed to her uncle who accompanied her to the police to report leading to the arrest of her stepfather.
The stepfather will, however, serve 32 years effective after four years of his sentence were set aside conditionally.
