The death of Hillary Nleya, a military intelligence officer, has raised questions of foul play following his mysterious disappearance last month.
As reported by <a href="https://cite.org.zw/senator-tells-parliament-military-officer-found-hanging-was-murdered/">CITE</a>, Nleya was last seen at Redwood along the Plumtree-Bulawayo road, and his body was later discovered hanging from a tree in Figtree, Matabeleland South Province.
While his death was initially classified as a suicide, the narrative changed when Nleya’s military connections were revealed, raising suspicions about the circumstances surrounding his demise.
During a parliamentary debate on the Death Penalty Abolition Bill last week, Senator Lwazi Sibanda, a cousin of the late Nleya, suggested that he may have been murdered. She said:

I rise with a heavy heart. I am a woman, a mother, and a Senator of this country, yet I stand here with a cousin lying in the mortuary—Hilary Nleya—whom we searched for over two weeks, only to find him dead in Figtree. He was murdered by a person we do not yet know.
</blockquote>
Sibanda said that while she supports the Bill, the issue is complex, as some individuals convicted of murder do not exhibit any remorse. She said:
<blockquote>
I am a law-abiding citizen of this country. I am grateful that we have a President who was spared from the death penalty.
I am a citizen who respects the law, and I am committed to the abolition of the death penalty.
We remember Geneva Sibanda, who was murdered by his gardener and wife. We remember many of our friends, colleagues—even among us—who have been murdered by people roaming the streets.
Some are known, some are unknown; some are in prison and brag about killing those they have killed.
It is painful in our hearts to say that sentencing these people to death does not serve our country.
Killing them like animals does not matter to us.
People will die. People will be killed by those we show remorse to, who don’t even show any remorse to us.”
It is so painful that I stand here defending people who will go out and kill their grandparents, or their mothers, simply because there was no food to cook for dinner. They will kill them just because their mother failed to provide food for them.
It is painful to spare a murderer who shows no remorse, like someone who kills a helpless young woman walking home after work just to steal her bag.
When they realise they’ve been seen, they kill her to prevent identification. They don’t care about tomorrow—they put a knife in her heart to save themselves.
There is so much pain caused by these murderers that we are still defending as a country.
We will keep them in prison for years, just to protect them from death, while they show no care for this nation.
I have so much more to say about the abolition of the death penalty.
</blockquote>
The Bill was subsequently passed by the Senate and is now awaiting President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s assent to become law.

Military Intelligence Officer Found Dead: Suicide Or Murder?

The Bulawayo City Council (BCC) has resolved to have all trees on which suicide cases were committed pruned to prevent easy climbing and make them inaccessible to those intending to take their lives, reported <a href="https://www.sundaynews.co.zw/bcc-orders-pruning-of-suicide-trees/">The Sunday News</a>.
The resolution follows a petition by Old Lobengula residents written to the local authority requesting the cutting down of a tree where a suicide case occurred last month.
The residents argued that children or pupils from Nyamande Primary School, where the tree is located — might eat its fruit, which was taboo in terms of African tradition. Reads the petition:

We hereby apply to the concerned authorities to kindly help us cut down a tree (uMsawa tree), on which a suicide was committed on 5 November 2024. The tree is close to the school fence, and it is an edible tree (umsawa tree).
As concerned parents and guardians, we are very much concerned that the children/pupils might eat its fruit which in our African beliefs is taboo for fruits of such a tree to be consumed.
Since the tree is close to the school and also within the residential homes, it has a psychological effect on children and the community.
The family of the deceased also requested the removal of the tree as culture dictates. We hope our sincere request will receive your most urgent and favourable consideration.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) recently revealed that Bulawayo recorded 21 suicide cases from June this year, with 20 of them being male victims.
In a report, after councillors deliberated on the petition by residents, the local authority noted that there have been divergent views on the matter, adding the trees were not the problem but the challenges were deeper than that with the trees used as vehicles for suicide. Reads the report:

From an environmental management point of view, it was, however, within council’s mandate to prune trees and ensure they were safe.
This exercise could help mitigate the ease of tree access, removal of trees totally would be difficult given that it took 50 or more years to grow an indigenous tree, and many trees might be finished under such circumstances, considering the upsurge in deaths by hanging on trees in recent months.
Indeed the situation was bad. As such, a pragmatic and holistic approach was needed, not an emotional and reactive response.
The root cause should be addressed instead of just the removal of trees, which were difficult for nature under the climate-changed environment.
</blockquote>
According to the report, one of the councillors who contributed to the debate, Councillor Siboniso Moyo, said the tree should be cut down, and not pruned. Reads the report:

Councillor Siboniso Moyo highlighted that the request was for the tree to be cut and not pruned. She agreed with the request citing that the edible tree was near a primary school and pupils from the school were eating the fruits from that tree.
Some pupils were even found with ropes dramatising what they saw on that tree. Tragedy might occur as pupils were taking it like kids’ play.
</blockquote>
However, Councillor Dumisani Netha indicated that the preservation of trees was very important, therefore, the tree should not be cut down. Reads the report:

It was necessary to cut only the branch where the hanging took place. He felt that cutting down every suicide tree was not good for the environment.
He gave an example that at a park in Ward 14, five suicides occurred in a short space of time and all the trees were cut down resulting in an unfriendly environment.

Suicide among men can be influenced by a variety of complex factors. Conditions such as depression, anxiety, and PTSD are significant risk factors. Men may be less likely to seek help for these issues due to stigma.
Cultural norms often pressure men to be strong and self-reliant, which can discourage them from expressing vulnerability or seeking support.
Alcohol and drug misuse can increase impulsivity and exacerbate mental health issues, leading to higher suicide risk.
Difficulties in personal relationships, including breakups or family issues, can contribute to feelings of hopelessness.
Financial problems, unemployment, or job-related stress can lead to feelings of inadequacy and despair.

Bulawayo City Council Orders Pruning Of "Suicide Trees"

The newly-appointed Minister of State for National Security, Lovemore Matuke, has attributed delays in the removal of bodies of people who commit suicide by hanging to a shortage of vehicles at police stations, reported <a href="https://cite.org.zw/minister-blames-police-delays-in-suicide-scenes-on-vehicle-shortages/">CITE</a>.
Matuke was responding to Senator Molly Ndlovu, who had raised concerns about the delays in police response times and sought clarification on the cultural and legal practices surrounding trees used in suicides.
The issue was brought up during a Senate session following a reported increase in suicide cases among men in Bulawayo. Queried Ndlovu:

My question is directed to the Minister of Home Affairs, and in his absence, to the Leader of the House. We have noticed that many young men are committing suicide by hanging.
How long should it take the police to come and remove the body from the tree? Also, should that tree be removed culturally, or should it remain? What does the law say about this?

In response, Matuke said there is no official time frame for police to remove the bodies, as response times depend largely on available material and human resources. He said:
<blockquote>
On the delays by police to attend to the scene and remove the body of someone who has committed suicide, there is no specified time limit.
If resources at the police station are adequate, they can respond quickly and should, in fact, do so.
Some challenges include a lack of vehicles to reach the scene promptly, as well as the distance to the site of the suicide.
At times, the only vehicle at the station may already be deployed elsewhere, and officers must wait for it to return before responding.
</blockquote>
Addressing the question of whether the tree used in suicide should be removed, Matuke said there is no legal requirement to do so. He said:
<blockquote>
If a person has an accident near a bridge or river, should we then remove that section of the road? It is not proper. We do not have laws that mandate the removal of such trees.
However, in certain communities or under certain cultural practices, there may be a belief that the tree should be cut down and burned. If we were to follow this practice universally, we would soon run out of trees.

Matuke Blames Shortage Of Police Vehicles For Delays In Removing Bodies From Suicide Scenes

Prominent Zvishavane businessman and bus operator Alphabet Takawira Chikozho reportedly took his own life by shooting himself in the mouth.
Chikozho is said to have committed suicide at his residence in the Caravan Park suburb of Zvishavane, late Thursday afternoon.
According to The Herald, the incident occurred shortly after Chikozho had lost a civil court case in which he had been fighting non-payment of debts.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Midlands Province, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the matter was being handled by police at the national level.
It is alleged that Chikozho who once ran a fleet of over 20 buses under Chikozho Bus Services and retail shops was now insolvent and had been in and out of courts over non-payment of debts. Said a source:

When he shot himself yesterday evening, he had just lost a civil court case where he had been told to repay a substantial debt.

Bus Operator Chikozho Commits Suicide Amidst Ballooning Debts

A 27-year-old male committed suicide at the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport on Thursday after checking into a flight to Johannesburg.
The man, who has been identified as Cecil Themba Elisha, a resident of Killarney suburb in Bulawayo, allegedly hitched himself using a door hinge.
An airport worker who spoke to <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/almost-impossible-to-pull-off-fresh-details-on-airport-suicide-man/">ZimLive</a> said the suicide move appeared “almost impossible to pull off.” Said worker:
It beggars belief because how do you use a door to kill yourself? He must have worked really hard for it. I guess when it’s your day, it’s your day.
Police reportedly recovered a diary “full of suicide notes”, and “The young man had a lot which was happening in his life”, according to a ZimLive source.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson for Bulawayo Province, Inspector Abednico Ncube said Elisha completed all travel formalities at the airport as he checked in for the 5.30 PM Fastjet flight to Johannesburg. He said:

He went to the toilets and took too long to return thereby delaying the flight to depart. The airport aviation security officer started looking for him and he found him hanging at the back of the door of the international departure toilet.
He used a nylon rope to hang himself on the hinge which is at the back of the toilet door.

In an unrelated incident, a renowned cattle breeder and proprietor of Heads and Hooves Butchery in Bulawayo, Christopher Androliakos, took his own life at his home on Thursday.
Inspector Ncube urged members of the public to seek counselling if they encounter problems, rather than resorting to suicide.

Traveller Hangs Himself On Toilet Door Hinge At JM Nkomo International Airport

Prominent cattle breeder, meat processor and owner of Heads and Hooves butchery, Christopher Androliakos has died in a suspected case of suicide.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson for Bulawayo Province, Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident to <a href="https://www.sundaynews.co.zw/heads-and-hooves-owner-commits-suicide/">The Sunday News</a> which happened on Thursday in Famona, Bulawayo.
He said Androliakos (58) came back home on Wednesday evening and parked his vehicle at their Famona house.
The now-deceased’s wife had travelled to Harare and the maid had knocked off and gone to her living quarters.
Insp. Ncube said on Thursday morning, the maid came to the main house at around 6 AM and found the doors still locked.
She then proceeded to the now deceased’s bedroom window and knocked but there was no response. Said Insp. Nyoni:

After waiting for some time, she entered through the kitchen window which is always kept open to allow movements of the cat.
As she was moving along the corridor towards the main bedroom she discovered the body of the now deceased hanging on the ceiling loft on a nylon rope and a police report was made.

Apart from running a thriving butchery business, Androliakos won several accolades for showcasing high-value breeds at the Bulawayo Agricultural Society show which runs concurrently with the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair.

A woman from Bikita, Masvingo Province, allegedly forced her three minor children to drink poison before taking her life following a domestic dispute.
According to <a href="https://masvingomirror.com/woman-forces-3-children-to-drink-poison-takes-her-life/">The Mirror</a>, Persistence Mazhe (31) of Duma in Nyika, Bikita took her own life at her rural home in the Zinhata area, Farm 269 in Gutu, after she had an altercation with her husband, on Monday, 06 May.
Mazhe’s husband, Joas Taramusha said she phoned him to inform him that she was travelling to their rural home to commit suicide.
Taramusha said his son aged nine died upon admission at Silveira Mission Hospital while his two siblings aged seven and three were admitted at the hospital.
He said Mazhe bought a pesticide and forced the children to drink before she consumed it as well. Said Taramusha:

I stayed at Nyika Growth Point in Bikita with my family and I argued with my wife. She phoned me yesterday morning and informed me that she was travelling to our rural home in Gutu to commit suicide.
She phoned again after a few hours and told me that she was going to commit suicide. She bought a pesticide and forced the children to drink before she gulped it.
My brother phoned me and informed me that she had forced the children to drink the pesticide. We rushed them to Silveira Mission Hospital. My son died upon admission.
</blockquote>
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Masvingo Province, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa could not readily confirm the incident.

Bikita Woman Forces Her 3 Children To Drink Poison, Takes Her Own Life

An unidentified man fell to his death off a four-storey building in Kwekwe Central Business District on Friday morning.
The <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/man-falls-to-death-off-4-story-building/">Chronicle</a> reported that the shirtless man died on the spot after jumping from the rooftop of the First Mutual building right in the city centre.
It has not yet been established whether the man, who is yet to be identified, intended to take his own life or it was a case of a stunt gone wrong.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is still investigating the incident to identify the man as well as his intention of going atop the roof.
According to a video that has circulated on social media platforms, the man appeared to mimic Spiderman by performing daring stunts, clinging precariously to the rooftop with just one hand.
He appeared to jump to what seemed like a balcony on the third floor but missed his target, and fell to the ground, dying on the spot.
Some commentators suggested the man might have been intoxicated, while others believed he was mentally unstable, and still more thought it could be a suicidal situation.

Man Falls To Death Off 4-Storey Building In Kwekwe

Bikita Chief Executive Officer, Peter Chibhi, who tragically took his own life, ingested poison immediately after attending a ZANU PF kangaroo court, as reported by <a href="https://masvingomirror.com/straight-from-zanu-pf-kangaroo-court-to-suicide/">The Mirror</a>.
The heartbreaking incident unfolded after Chibhi was summoned by ZANU PF officials to address specific inquiries last Saturday, merely two days before his untimely demise.
He was questioned about the sale of stands on a ZANU PF Heroes’ Acre and at the ZANU PF Women’s League Hall in Nyika Growth Point.
Chibhi was also questioned on Hanyani, a private company which he and the finance director allegedly formed to do business with the council.
The meeting also referenced a negative council audit report, which currently serves as the basis for an investigation against senior council officials.
Chibhi left the meeting held at the council boardroom at Nyika Growth Point in a huff and bought a bottle of poison on his way home.
He left the receipt on a table at home and went to another house he was building nearby and drank the poison, according to sources close to the family.
The Mirror established that Chibhi was called to the meeting at around noon by Kudakwashe Gopo, the ZANU PF district political commissar and he turned up. The meeting ended around 3 pm. Gopo confirmed his role in calling and summoning Chibhi to the meeting. He said:

Yes, I am the one who called him to the meeting and he attended. I however cannot comment on any other issues because I am not allowed to by the party.
</blockquote>
At the meeting, notable figures including former Army general Englebert Rugeje, Bikita East MP Court Zevezanai, former Education Minister Gabriel Machinga, Senator Anna Rungani, Central Committee member Univester Mukwena, and Provincial member Simon Muchafa were in attendance.
Additionally, four chiefs—Marozva, Budzi, Mabika, and Ziki—participated, along with Bikita RDC chairperson Thomas Mataga and five council committee chairpersons.
The situation raises questions about the authority of ZANU PF to summon and interrogate a CEO of a local authority, whose reporting structure typically involves councillors and the Ministry of Local Government.
DCC chairperson, Chamunorwa Taruona said the meeting with Chibhi was conducted cordially, with no instances of harassment.
He said the purpose of the meeting was to seek clarification on certain issues. Taruona added that after the meeting concluded, everyone went home, and there was no indication that Chibhi would take such a drastic step.
Taruona believes that Chibhi may have been dealing with personal problems at home.
Mataga, who was part of the meeting, mentioned that they had pledged support to Chibhi during a difficult time when he was under investigation for corruption.
Despite the reassurances, Chibhi’s decision to take his own life reportedly came as a surprise.
Mataga expressed disbelief, emphasizing that they had no inkling that he would resort to such drastic measures.
Chibhi’s wife allegedly discovered a receipt on the table, which raised suspicions.
She followed him to their new house and found him in distress. She promptly took him to Silveira Hospital.
Chibhi was later transferred to Masvingo Provincial Hospital, where he sadly passed away around 3 AM on Monday.

Bikita RDC CEO Dies After ZANU PF Kangaroo Court Appearance

Bikita Rural District Council (RDC) CEO Peter Chibhi has died after he reportedly took poison on Saturday.
According to <a href="https://masvingomirror.com/breaking-news-4/">The Mirror</a>, Chibhi died around 3 AM this Monday, 11 March, at the Masvingo Provincial Hospital.
Chibhi was initially admitted at Silveira Mission Hospital on Saturday and was later transferred to Masvingo Provincial Hospital.
His death was confirmed to The Mirror by Bikita RDC chairperson Thomas Mataga.
Chibhi’s tragic death comes after Minister of Local Government and Public Works Winston Chitando dispatched a team of investigators on Tuesday to look into various allegations of corruption.
There was also pressure on councillors to pass a vote of no confidence on the CEO. 
Last year, Chibhi reportedly received a council loan and procured 6 Toyota GD6 vehicles, and registered them in the names of individual managers.
The Mirror also reported that another Bikita RDC manager (Administration), Nomatter Gezera collapsed two days ago after Chitando ordered that she be suspended for alleged corruption along with other senior council officials.
Gezera is reportedly admitted at a hospital in Kadoma.

Bikita RDC Chief Executive Officer Dies After Consuming Poison

A 9-year-old from Chief Sai, Gokwe South District, Midlands Province, allegedly committed suicide after he failed to find his missing pair of socks.
The incident occurred on 7 February 2024 at about 8 AM.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Midlands Province, Inspector Emmanuel Mohoko, confirmed the incident to the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/boy-9-hangs-self-over-missing-socks/">Chronicle</a>, saying they are investigating the circumstances leading to the death of the juvenile
The boy was found hanging from a dish drying rack by his grandmother. Said Insp Mahoko:

The now deceased Clive Mpala of Village Mahamba Chief Sai, Gokwe who was doing grade 4 at Zhamba Primary School, Gokwe South woke up to prepare for School.
He did not locate his pair of socks and asked his grandmother Patricia Munkuli, a female aged 50 years who was staying with him.
</blockquote>
Munkuli is said to have also searched for the pair of socks but failed to locate them.
She allegedly told Clive not to go to school if he was not comfortable before she left for Zhamba Business Centre to buy groceries leaving Mpala at home. Said Insp Mahoko:

On her return she found the body of Mpala hanging from a shed at the homestead. She reported the matter to the Police who attended the scene. The body was conveyed to Gokwe South District Hospital.
</blockquote>
The ZRP is appealing for information about what may have led to the death of the juvenile.

9-year-old Gokwe Schoolboy "Hangs Self" Over Missing Socks

A 38-year-old Bulawayo man allegedly murdered his girlfriend in cold blood at a bed and breakfast lodge in Bradfield, Bulawayo last week before committing suicide by crashing his vehicle into a bus along the Bulawayo-Gwanda Highway.
The <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/girlfriend-killer-in-car-crash-suicide/">Chronicle</a> reported that on Saturday, Mandlenkosi Dube of Cowdray Park suburb allegedly strangled 29-year-old Precious Dube (pictured), from the Nketa suburb over an undisclosed dispute and money issues.
After committing the heinous crime, Dube allegedly attempted to flee to South Africa using his white Mercedes Benz but then decided to end his life along the way.
The alleged murder occurred around 5.30 PM before Dube crashed his vehicle onto an oncoming bus along Bulawayo-Gwanda Road near Kensington shops where seven passengers sustained minor injuries and were treated and discharged.
Dube reportedly suffered serious head injuries and died on the spot.
Police in Bulawayo said that soon after killing his girlfriend, Dube recorded and sent a WhatsApp message to his wife telling her of what he had done.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Bulawayo Province Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele said:

From our investigations, we discovered that a male juvenile who was present when the incident occurred overheard Dube shouting demanding his money from the now deceased.
</blockquote>
She said the juvenile saw the now deceased running towards the cottage from the main house where she asked the children to call the police. Said Asst Insp Msebele:

An enraged Dube was in pursuit and shouting. The children then scurried for cover as they too feared for their lives. Some ran and hid in their bedrooms while the others shouted for help.
The children who were peeking from their bedroom saw Dube wrestling with Precious, whom he was strangling and telling to die. He then left the room after about 30 minutes.
</blockquote>
The children then emerged from their hiding places, only to see Dube lying motionless on the floor.
Asst Insp Msebele said the children then ran to the shops and narrated the incident to a vendor who then called their guardian who was in town informing her about the incident at the house. She added:

She hired a taxi home and found her lying on the floor in her bedroom facing upwards… She was pronounced dead by a doctor at UBH (United Bulawayo Hospitals) and her body is at the mortuary awaiting postmortem.
</blockquote>
A report was made at ZRP Khumalo on the same day before police removed the body from the house.
Asst Insp Msebele said police officers who attended the scene of the crime discovered blood stains on the floor at the main house. She said:

A shoe belonging to Dube was also found in the house. There were also blood stains on a blue decoration ball in the main house.
In the cottage, blood stains were found on the wall in the bedroom where she was murdered.
The deceased’s forehead had a minor cut and was swollen. She also had blood coming from her mouth.
Her lips and tongue were also swollen and had bruises on the neck from suspected strangulation and bruises on the right lower arm.

The murder appears to have been a “crime of passion”. Crimes of passion, include cases of severe violence or murder committed in the heat of passion or response to strong emotional feelings.
In Zimbabwe, such crimes often emanate from intense emotions, jealousy, infidelity, or relationship conflicts.

Suspected Girlfriend Killer Commits Suicide By Crashing Vehicle Into Bus

A ZANU PF and <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Forever_Associates_Zimbabwe">Forever Associates Zimbabwe</a> (FAZ) activist Norman Mawungwa who committed suicide last week by hanging himself from a tree was buried like a “rat”, reported <a href="https://masvingomirror.com/notorious-faz-activist-buried-like-a-pauper/">The Mirror</a>.
That was in spite of Mawungwa’s last wish and plea to party members and relatives for a decent burial.
Mawungwa recorded a suicide audio in which he acknowledged to relatives and party colleagues that he did not have a funeral policy and pleaded for a decent burial.
He also specified his preferred resting place at a hill in the area but family elders including Chief Mawungwa ignored the wish and buried him at his homestead instead.
The Mirror reported that Chief Mawungwa barred mourners from singing, praying, or giving speeches at the FAZ member’s funeral.
The traditional leader also ordered that the deceased be buried with his full wardrobe including FAZ and ZANU PF regalia.
All of Mawungwa’s clothes were thrown into the grave and family members resolved not to take any souvenir from the deceased.
ZANU PF, which was expected to take over funeral costs, did not provide a beast to be slaughtered at the funeral, and as a result, mourners were served sadza with cabbages.
Despite claims by FAZ member Mugove Mubaiwa that ZANU PF donated US$1 000 towards the funeral, Mawungwa was laid to rest in a coffin priced at US$90.
A neighbouring Chief who preferred anonymity was quoted as saying:

It’s either the US$1 000 was stolen within ZANU PF ranks or people were lied to that there was a donation otherwise how does one explain such a pauper burial where mourners could not even get a decent meal?
</blockquote>
The MP for the area, Pupurai Togarepi, whom Mawungwa worked for during the August 2023 election campaigns, and the reason he made so many enemies, did not turn up or deliver an official condolence message.
There was no ZANU PF official at the funeral of the man who is accused of killing and brutalising perceived opposition supporters for the sake of the party.
Mawungwa’s body was not allowed in the homestead after being removed from the tree where he hung, as per local customs.
The body was dumped and spent day and night in a field covered with tree branches and only collected in the morning and taken straight to the grave for burial.
Women at the funeral reportedly refused to give undertakers their MaZambia (wrapping cloths), to be used to lower the coffin into the grave.
As a result, undertakers had to drop the coffin 1.8 metres down and it hit the bottom of the grave with a thud.
The undertakers hastily covered the grave with sand and mourners left immediately afterwards.
Chief Mawungwa explained why the mourners refused to have their wrapping cloths used to lower the deceased’s casket into the grave. He said:

We will not allow any of our clothes to be used on this man’s coffin. His evil spirits will follow us.
Neither will any relative take any souvenir of his. He had demons and they will stick with you.
You know how he died. His spirit is not clean. There will be no singing, speechifying or praying. We just bury him, eat food prepared for us and leave.
</blockquote>
A war veteran and close confidante of Mawungwa identified as Mudukuti was not happy because ordinary people celebrated Mawungwa’s death. He said:
<blockquote>
Why do you hate him so much? What did he do to you? I saw people at Mawungwa Business Centre in great joy after the death of Mawungwa.
</blockquote>
A local teacher reportedly tortured by Mawungwa in 2008 who declined to be named said:
<blockquote>
I came all the way from Mpandawana just to see for myself that this evil man was gone.
God exists, the man has been buried like a rat. They buried him like they were burying a rat.
</blockquote>
In the audio that he recorded shortly before taking his own life, and addressed to his son, Mawungwa said his political past was tormenting him. He said: “Mwanangu ndashungurudzwa nezvematongerwe enyika, dei ndakaziva haitungamiri.”

"Notorious" ZANU PF And FAZ Activist Buried Like A Pauper

An alleged ZANU PF thug who recently took his own life left an audio message in which he said he regretted the corrupt and violent life he led in Gutu South constituency.
According to a report by <a href="https://masvingomirror.com/zanu-pf-suicide-victim-deeply-regrets-faz-links/">The Mirror</a>, the ZANU PF activist, Norman Mawungwa, from Chief Mawungwa committed suicide on Sunday night.
He blamed his clan (Mawungwa chieftainship) and family members for pushing him into committing suicide.
Mawungwa accused them of tormenting him over his alleged violence and corruption.
In audio in possession of The Mirror which he left behind for his son Joe, Mawungwa said that ZANU PF MP for Gutu South <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Pupurai_Togarepi">Pupurai Togarepi</a> and a war veteran he identified as Mudukuti were his intimate political friends and are aware of the reasons for his death.
Mawungwa is reported to have been probably the most notorious political thug in Gutu South.
He appealed to the family and ZANU PF to assist him with a decent burial as he did not have a funeral policy.
The late political activist regretted his involvement in politics and said had he known, he would never have participated in such things.
In his last words, Mawungwa repeatedly said “Had I known I wouldn’t do such” as he expressed regret about being associated with <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Forever_Associates_Zimbabwe">Forever Zimbabwe Associates</a> (FAZ), a shadowy ZANU PF affiliate with alleged links with the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO).
He said some people could think that he committed suicide because of the land he illegally sold, saying that was not the case.
Mawungwa said the clan, his family and in particular his brothers were not ready to forgive him for his involvement with FAZ. He said in the audio:

Joe mwanangu, ndini baba vako. Ndafunga kuzorora mwanangu musure mekushungurudzwa. Ndashungurudzwa zvikuru. Handina Kuziva, dei waro ndakaziva. Dei waro haitungamiri. Chikonzero vanhu vemhuri, vandishungurudza zvikuru nenyaya dzematongerwo enyika. (Joe my son, it’s your father. I have decided to rest after being tormented. I have been tormented a lot. I didn’t realize it will come to this. Had I known I would never have been involved. Family members and the whole clan are against my involvement in ZANU PF politics).
</blockquote>
He alleged that his clan was handsomely paid by CCC to torment him adding that Togarepi, Mudukuti, and one Mbizvo were aware of that.
Togarepi reportedly cut off his phone when The Mirror contacted him for a comment.
Mawungwa was found hanging in a cattle pen at his uncle’s house by a girl going to school on Monday morning. He had spent the previous day at the funeral of an aunt.

ZANU PF Activist Who Committed Suicide "Deeply" Regretted FAZ Links

A Grade Seven learner from Chisumbanje “accidentally” committed suicide after losing in a video game.
Police in Manicaland Province confirmed the death of Kelvin Gwenzi (12) of Konjana Village under Chief Garahwa’s area by hanging.
ZRP deputy provincial spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka told <a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/boy-12-hangs-self-after-losing-in-a-video-game/">The Manica Post</a> that Kelvin died on 18 June this year.
He said on the fateful day, the juvenile was left by his mother, Tariro Moyo (36), at their homestead as she went to Save River to do her laundry. Said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka:

I can confirm that on June 18 in Konjana Village under Chief Garahwa’s area, Chisumbanje, Kelvin Gwenzi, a juvenile aged 12 died after hanging himself on a window.
The now deceased’s mother, Ms. Moyo, left home for Save River to do laundry. She left Kelvin with his two siblings aged eight and four as they were playing games on a cellphone.
While playing the games, Kelvin said he would hang himself if he lost the game. Kelvin lost the game against his two siblings.
After losing, Kelvin went into another room. He tried to do a suicide prank and hanged himself on a curtain thread. He tried to loosen it but failed and died.

Kelvin’s grandmother, Miriam Tutununu arrived at the homestead to fetch water and was told what had transpired by her two grandchildren.
She reported the matter at Chisumbanje Police Station.
Police attended the scene and the body was conveyed to St Peter’s Mission Hospital for a post-mortem.

Suicide Prank Goes Wrong As Boy (12) Accidentally Hangs Self After Losing Video Game

Zimbabwe’s economic challenges, high inflation and the rising cost of living are driving civil servants and ordinary people to suicide.
The Amalgamated Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) last week said a deputy school head and mother of three, Miriam Manyarara, from Mwenezi District in the Masvingo Province took her own life due to “slave wages”.
Manyarara was reportedly found hanging in her house by colleagues after collecting her salary.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.timeslive.co.za/news/africa/2023-06-26-zimbabwe-union-flags-mental-health-concern-due-to-economic-hardship/">TimesLive</a>, ARTUZ president Obert Masaraure said that teachers and civil servants are suffering in silence. He said:
<blockquote>
It is very unfortunate that we have a serious mental health crisis in Zimbabwe that is not being attended to.
We have a serious issue of underpayment which triggers mental health illness.
Unfortunately, we have teachers who are taking their lives, and police officers who are taking their lives.
They are underpaid and no one is paying attention to their urgent needs. People are suffering in silence and committing suicide.
As a union, we urge the government of the day to have policy interventions that can address the crisis and to pay teachers and other civil servants a living wage to enable them to deal with the challenges they face daily.

Recently a police officer who had been taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare hanged himself after telling doctors his salary was too low to support his family.
There are 135 000 teachers employed in Zimbabwean public schools and they earn about ZWL$100 000 in Zimbabwe dollars and a monthly allowance of US$250.
Over the weekend, Public Service and Social Welfare Minister Paul Mavima said the Government is looking at giving public sector workers a new salary package to “cushion them from the rising cost of living”. He said:

We are looking at all possibilities including effecting an increase of US dollars as well as a pay increase in local currency.
</blockquote>
Civil servants are demanding US$840 per month for the lowest-paid Government employee.

Zim's Economic Challenges Driving Civil Servants To Suicide - Teachers' Union

Police in Manicaland Province have implored couples to seek counselling whenever there are misunderstandings rather than resort to self-harm.
This comes after a man and his wife from Marange committed suicide one after the other following a misunderstanding over how to prepare sadza.
Peter Mukwada (29) and Pure Gezana (21) were both employed as domestic workers in Rimai Village.
According to <a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/couple-commits-suicide-over-sadza/">The Manica Post’s</a> sources, Mukwada accused Gezana of wasting maize meal by using a big pot.
Gezana reportedly left the house and did not return. Her lifeless body was later found hanging from a tree in a nearby bush at the back of their employer’s homestead.
Her body was discovered by Mukwada, who upon seeing his wife dead, also hanged himself.
The couple is survived by two children.
ZRP spokesperson in Manicaland Province, Inspector Nobert Muzondo confirmed the double suicide. He said:
<blockquote>
Mukwada pointed out that Gezana was using a big pot to prepare sadza and was wasting maize meal.
He advised her to use a smaller pot but she stormed out of the kitchen and went to a bushy area where she hung herself using a rope. The bush is 50 metres away from the kitchen hut.
When Mukwada realised that more than 30 minutes had elapsed before his wife came back, he followed her and discovered her body hanging from a tree branch.
He called his neighbour, Ozias Kuhudzehwe, who accompanied him to the scene.
Mukwada later told Kuhudzehwe that he was feeling cold and wanted to put on a jacket. He went back home.

Kuhudzehwe also left the scene to go and inform the village head, Munamato Chipindirwe, about Gezana’s suicide. Added Insp Muzondo:
<blockquote>
When Kuhudzehwe and Village Head Chipindirwe went to the scene, Mukwada had not yet returned.
The pair is alleged to have waited for about 30 minutes at the scene before following Mukwada.
When they could not locate him at his home, they started looking for him.
His body was later found hanging from a tree branch, at least 300 metres from where his wife had killed herself.

The matter was reported to the police and they attended the scene. Said Insp Muzondo:
<blockquote>
Whenever people have a difference in opinion, we urge them to seek counselling from the police’s Victim Friendly Unit, professional counsellors, church leaders, community leaders or trusted relatives.
</blockquote>
Cases of suicide are seemingly on the rise as the country’s economic woes continue. This week, a deputy school head in Masvingo Province and a police officer in Harare committed suicide due to paltry salaries.

Couple Commits Suicide Over Pot Of Sadza

The Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) has blamed Finance and Economic Development Minister Mthuli Ncube’s economic policies for the death of a female school head who allegedly committed suicide.
ARTUZ said one Mrs. Muzenda, the Deputy school head at Sarahuru Primary School in Mwenezi took her own life due to “slave wages”. <a href="https://twitter.com/ARTUZ_teachers/status/1671104730083328002">The teachers’ union said</a>:
<blockquote>
[Mthuli Ncube] policies have killed Mrs. Mzenda the D/Head at Sarahuru Primary Mwenezi. She committed suicide. Slave wages are the new guillotine claiming our Teachers.
The government of [President Emmerson Mnangagwa is presiding over the killing of civil servants and untold suffering for those who live on!
</blockquote>
In February 2022, teachers embarked on a week-long strike, demanding the restoration of their pre-October 2018 salaries when they earned US$540.
The Government responded by awarding civil servants a token salary increment and suspended scores of teachers for taking part in the job action.
Currently, teachers, like other civil servants, are earning US$250 in allowances per month while their RTGS salary is less than US$50.
Meanwhile, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/06/18/missing-headmaster-found-dead-near-dam/">the Gwindingwi Secondary School headmaster Stanford Tsindikwa was recently found dead</a> near Rusape Dam in a case of suspected suicide.
Tsindikwa was reported missing after he allegedly made several calls and sent text messages to his wife informing her about his intention to take his own life.

<li>Having mood swings, such as being emotionally high one day and deeply discouraged the next</li>
<li>Being preoccupied with death, dying or violence</li>
<li>Feeling trapped or hopeless about a situation</li>
<li>Increasing use of alcohol or drugs</li>
<li>Changing normal routine, including eating or sleeping patterns</li>
<li>Doing risky or self-destructive things, such as using drugs or driving recklessly</li>

Teachers Blame Mthuli Ncube For Deputy Headmistress' Suicide

A Criminal Investigations Department (CID) detective is facing disciplinary action after posting a picture of himself with a gun to his chin, and the message: “We will meet in heaven” on Sunday.
<a href="https://www.zimlive.com/cid-detective-in-hot-water-after-he-jokes-about-suicide-on-whatsapp/">ZimLive</a> reported that Detective Constable Jonah Nomore Gono, of the CID minerals and fauna unit in Bindura, Mashonaland Central, posted a picture on his WhatsApp status showing a pistol pressed against his chest with his chin, pointing at his neck.
Accompanying the picture was a message written in Shona: “Tosangana kudenga (We will meet in heaven)”, and three sad emojis.
But after 20 minutes as friends and colleagues called his phone and sent messages to check on him, the detective posted a new WhatsApp status saying “Sorry… I’m fyn”.
ZimLive reported police sources as saying Gono was asked by his bosses to write a report.
He is likely to be arrested and charged under the Police Act for “acting in an unbecoming or disorderly manner or in any manner prejudicial to good order or discipline or reasonably likely to bring discredit to the police force.”
If convicted, Gono could be discharged from the police or face a reduction in rank and a reprimand.

Suicide Joke On WhatsApp Lands CID Officer In Trouble

A 56-year-old security guard allegedly shot himself with his service rifle in Checheche after discovering that his wife was having extra-marital affairs.
Johane Chiweshe from Dambamuromo Village in Chipinge South committed suicide recently after making several suicide attempts before.
ZRP spokesperson in Manicaland Province, Inspector Nobert Muzondo, confirmed the incident which happened in Checheche on 07 March 2023. He said:
<blockquote>
The now-late Johane Chiweshe who was employed as a security guard was on duty when the incident happened. He was armed with a 303 riffle.
His workmate, Munyaradzi Gorivoto heard a gunshot around midnight and called out Chiweshe who did not respond. He alerted their superior, Enock Musasike, and he rushed to the scene.
The two searched around the company premises and discovered that Chiweshe was already dead. His body was found lying facing upwards with blood oozing from his head.
A report was made to the police who attended the scene and observed a gunshot wound on Chiweshe’s head.
The 303 riffle was also discovered near Chiweshe’s hand with a magazine containing seven rounds.
An empty cartridge was also discovered at the scene and the body was conveyed to St Peter’s Mission Hospital mortuary.
Inquiries done indicate that Chiweshe had attempted suicide many times before.

Chiweshe’s neighbour who spoke to <a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/guard-shoots-self-over-wifes-infidelity/">The Manica Post</a> claimed that the now-deceased had accused his wife of infidelity several times. Said the neighbour:

Chiweshe accused his wife of infidelity several times. Their relationship was an on-and-off affair. His church members would intervene whenever the couple had a misunderstanding and they would reconcile.
However, Chiweshe always told church members that his wife had not reformed from her old habits and because of this, he would end his life. He made several suicide attempts before.
We don’t know why his employers gave him a gun at work as he had suicidal tendencies.
</blockquote>
Chiweshe was buried in Dambamuromo Village on 11 March.

Security Guard Shoots Self Over Wife’s Extra-marital Affairs

A Form Six learner who committed suicide at ZRP High School in Harare on Monday reportedly had a pending disciplinary issue with school authorities.
<a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/leading-school-in-shock-as-student-hangs-himself/">H-Metro</a> reported sources as saying Prince Taonezvi (18) was expected to appear before a school disciplinary committee for allegedly fondling a female student’s breasts. Said a source:
<blockquote>
Prince proposed to a female student sometime last week and his proposal was spurned.
He then found the girl standing next to a wall and grabbed her from behind, and fondled her breasts.
The girl screamed for help and shouted at him in anger.
The matter was reported to the headmaster, who asked the two to submit reports of what transpired.
Prince handed in his report and was told he would be called in for a hearing on a misconduct charge.

Prince reportedly hanged using a rope in a building that is still under construction at the school.
His body was discovered by two caretakers working on the school grounds.
Prince reportedly left a suicide note, whose contents were not released by the police.

Suicide ZRP High School Learner Was Facing A Misconduct Charge

An 18-year-old Form Six learner committed suicide at ZRP High School around 5 PM on Monday, 13 March.
ZRP Senior Staff Officer (Press and Public Relations), Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi identified the pupil as Prince Tawonezvi.
Asst Comm Nyathi said police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident. He said:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the tragic and unfortunate death of an upper sixth student, Prince Tawonezvi (18) at ZRP High School on 13th March 2023 at 1700 hours.
The student allegedly committed suicide in circumstances that are now subject to investigations.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police expresses condolence to the Tawonezvi family and students at the school.

The suicide at ZRP High is the fourth reported incident of school-going teenage suicides in the country in March.
Earlier this month, 14-year-old Rumbidzai Chimusasa committed suicide in a school toilet at St Mary’s Secondary School in Chikanga, Mutare after she had just been reprimanded for her wayward behaviour by her grandmother.
Last week, 15-year-old Jayden Saudan, a Form Three pupil at Hamilton High School, committed suicide after drinking poison.
On Sunday, a Form One learner at a private school in Luveve suburb, Pauline Moyo, committed suicide by hanging.

Form Six Learner Commits Suicide At ZRP High School

A Form One pupil at a private school in Luveve suburb, Bulawayo, committed suicide by hanging on Sunday evening.
The girl reportedly hanged herself in her bedroom at around 7 PM in the presence of her 8-year-old sister.
Her 19-year-old brother told the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/form-one-pupil-commits-suicide/">Chronicle</a> that she did not leave a suicide note or tell anyone if she had any challenges. He said:
<blockquote>
My sister was a very quiet person but she was always smiling. She had gone out and met my father by the corner and asked him where he was going.
My father told her he was going to buy some relish. When she arrived at the house, there was my little sister.
She took some plastic-like rope and hung herself from the roof truss in her bedroom. She didn’t leave any message nor did she say anything to my younger sister.
When my younger sister went to tell the people who lodge in the house at the back, it was already too late as she had died. This is painful.
</blockquote>
The late girl’s uncle said they were informed about the tragic incident on Sunday. He said:
<blockquote>
The girl’s mother died last year in January in South Africa, and what pained us was that the father refused for the children to go and bury their mother at our village in the Gwamba area in Nkayi.
This suicide is troubling to us and we’re forced to think about many things. We suspect that maybe the girl was being abused and just suffered in silence because there’s no other way to explain this painful incident.
I just arrived and I’m waiting for the father to arrive so that we can talk but I’m not happy with the disrespect he has shown to our family.

A pastor’s wife from the nearby Baptist Church who preferred anonymity said they had been supporting the children together with neighbours in the area after both parents left the children for South Africa. She said;

I’m pained by this and I wish she could wake up but I know it can’t happen. She was a member of our church but didn’t attend church on Sunday after a relative visited them.
In life iminwe ayilingani but we supported them wherever we could. The father was working hard to provide for them but it was difficult.
The children stayed for a long time by themselves when their parents were in South Africa and the father only returned sometime last year and we were assisting them.

Bulawayo Provincial ZRP spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the suicide to the Chronicle, saying investigations into the case are ongoing.

Form One Pupil Commits Suicide In The Presence Of Sister (8)

A female learner committed suicide in a school toilet at St Mary’s Secondary School in Chikanga, Mutare on Tuesday last week after she had just been reprimanded for her wayward behaviour by her grandmother.
The late 14-year-old Rumbidzai Chimusasa had been warned against bad behaviour by her grandmother, Juliet Mafunga, whom she was staying with.
Mafunga told <a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/chikanga-schoolgirl-suicide-details-emerge/">The Manica Post</a> that she had warned Rumbidzai against coming home late and also advised her to ditch some of her close friends. Said Mafunga:

I am not sure if I was supposed to just remain and watch her coming home late as well as continue playing with friends that I knew would be of bad influence on her.
I took her as my own child. I have six children and I am not married. I am a vendor and the least I expected was to be troubled by kids that I work so hard to feed.
On the day she died, I had warned her against playing with some of her naughty friends and told her to stop coming home late.
I am not sure if this is what prompted her to commit suicide, but surely was I wrong?
I did not only reprimand her. I also reprimanded my own daughter. My daughter heeded my advice, so I do not know whether this offended Rumbidzai or not.
I think there was more to her decision to commit suicide than my words.

Rumbidzai committed suicide in one of the school’s toilets on Tuesday and this prompted the school authorities to dismiss the other learners early.
On Thursday, the Roman Catholic Mutare Diocese education secretary, Lawrence Chibvuri said they were offering prayers and counselling to other learners who were traumatised by the incident. Said Chibvuri:

It is very unfortunate that she failed to open up and seek counselling from the school authorities.
Instead, she decided to end her life and this is the main message we are giving to our children at the school as well as all other Catholic schools.
We are saddened, however, by the choice of place for suicide because it causes trauma to other learners and teachers.
Therefore the prayers and counselling sessions are meant to help them cope with the sad incident.
We encourage learners to open up and not resort to drastic measures when they are going through tough times.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson for Manicaland Province, Inspector Nobert Muzondo, said:

We are yet to establish what led her to commit suicide. I am sure the parents or guardians would know better.
However, as the police, we will continue urging parents and guardians to have a cordial relationship with their children so that they are free to open up about all problems that they will be facing, rather than resorting to committing suicide.

Female Learner (14) Commits Suicide In School Toilet

A Premier Service Medical Investments (PSMI) loss control supervisor, Bernard Chatindivara, took his own life on Saturday after failing to pay debts he accrued while doing company business.
Chatindivara, who joined PSMI in June 2012, was stationed at Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo.
PSMI national workers committee chairperson Munyaradzi Nharaunda confirmed Chatindiwara’s death to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200008437/psmi-worker-commits-suicide-over-mounting-debts">NewsDay</a>.
He said the deceased would be buried at his rural area in Chiweshe, Mashonaland Central Province on Wednesday, 08 March. Said Nharaunda:

Yes, a fellow employee who was a loss control region B supervisor committed suicide in Bulawayo.
He had no fuel for his vehicle to move around, and as a result, he borrowed money for that.
The debts accumulated and the company failed to pay the debts yet he was doing its business.
He was also being threatened by the workers whom he caught doing wrong things. He received death threats.
He once lodged a complaint over (the issue and requested) to be transferred.
We even liaised with our management, but it resisted.

We don’t know what happened, but eventually, he committed suicide.
On 6 February, Chatindivara wrote to the acting loss control manager Caesar Nyamajiwa alleging he had received death threats for exposing theft at the company. He wrote:

On January 23, I submitted a report on the missing spare wheels, battery and the waste damaged properties of vehicle NP200 with registration number AEN 0831, which I copied to Mr. S Dhliwayo who forwarded the report to Sibonginkosi Ndlovu to respond. 
During the process, Ndlovu forwarded the report to Itai Mapasure who was not entitled to see it and after seeing it he started to hunt me and threatened to fight or kill me.
Ndlovu had no right whatsoever in his capacity to release the confidential information to Itai.
The case is still under investigation by investigation officer Constable Moyo from Bulawayo Central under reference number IR633/23.

Chatindivara then sought an urgent transfer to Harare saying he no longer felt safe working in the region. However, his request was denied.
Meanwhile, civil servants on Monday urged Parliament to investigate the Premier Service Medical Aid Society (PSMAS) to establish the cause for the closure of health facilities owned by PSMI.
PSMI is a subsidiary of the Premier Service Medical Aid Society.

PSMI Worker Commits Suicide Over Death Threats, Mounting Debts

A 20-year-old Harare man committed suicide on Saturday morning at his girlfriend’s house after she had ended their relationship.
<a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/man-commits-suicide-at-lovers-house/">H-Metro</a> reported that Tinotenda Zikonya hung himself on a mango tree outside his estranged lover’s house in Kuwadzana 6, Harare.
The now-deceased’s lover, only identified as Memory, said their differences started in December when Tinotenda cheated on her. She said:

Whenever I wanted to break up with him he threatened to commit suicide.
We have been dating since July 2021 and after he cheated on me, I decided to end the relationship but he did not take it lightly.
And, on top of it all akundinyepera hanzi ndatora US$900 dollars (He lied that I had stolen US$900 from him).
He threatened to fix me.
Akandi cheater neumwe musikana (He cheated on me with some other girl) so that’s why I said I can’t continue naye (with him).

Reports claim Tinotenda came to the house o Friday, at around 10 AM, and assaulted Memory’s parents.

Harare Man (20) Commits Suicide At Lover's Place "To Fix Her"

Zimbabwean comedian and motivational speaker, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Nigel_Tha_Slick_Pastor">Nigel “Tha Slick Pastor” Maritinyu</a>, says the world demands a lot from men, but they keep the pain to themselves.
Bamunini Nijo, a role he played <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Gamuchirai_Duve">in one of his skits</a>, said women are not the only ones who need emotional support, but men also need it. In a post seen by Pindula News, Nijo said many men were depressed to the extent that some contemplated abusing drugs or even suicide. He said:

Not taking anything away from the ladies, but I feel like men go through a lot, especially young men who are navigating the “building” stage of their lives.
It’s either you have a lot of time for your family and no money to support them or you are busy making ends meet which ends up taking a lot of your time hence depriving your family of your presence.
The world demands a lot from the man. The wife needs attention, love, understanding and also provisions. The world requires your labour and service in exchange for a means to sustain your livelihood.
The man is constantly in competition , either with other men or circumstances of nature. At almost every turn and instance, the head of the family is constantly thinking and plotting, devising and scheming ways to survive and meet his family’s expectations.
But he’s human too. Sometimes he just wants to feel what it’s like to sit and enjoy TV like everyone else without a the threat of bills intruding his mind. Everyday, men are faced with situations that challenge their sufficiency. Will I make enough this month, am I satisfying my partner, will I retain my job in this recession, is my health alright with all the stress I’m constantly under?? So many questions, very few answers many a time.
Of all the things I have listed, I feel that the biggest burden is not even these problems but the greatest pain for the man is going through these challenges and feeling no one UNDERSTANDS you, they only expect from you.
While I do not approve, justify or condone the following I tend to UNDERSTAND how many end turning to:
1. Alcoholism
2. Pornography and womanizing
3. Drug and substance abuse
4. Absenteeism
5. Fits of rage
6. Suicide
Most times these behaviors and patterns begin as an escape channel, trying to avoid facing the beckoning reality with each passing second.
I repeat, those are not solutions but I think I get how people end up trapped in such.
Do you know it’s very normal for a man to want to just sit there and be quiet for 8 hours straight because life is tiring man and even talking becomes such a task. This is why some came up with the idea of a “man cave”, that room at home you can just retreat to and be yourself and enjoy your own company but kuno unoita man cave ipi uchiroja mu two rooms.

"The World Demands A Lot From Men" Nigel 'Nijo Slick' Maritinyu

A retired senior police officer in Bulawayo allegedly committed suicide by gulping a poisonous substance and his body was discovered in his car by his stepdaughter on Sunday morning.
The deceased, Walter Frank Ebinerng (62), was a former member of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) and had attained the rank of Chief Inspector when he retired.
It is alleged that before he committed suicide, Ebinerng was heard by his stepdaughter Awakhiwe Geraldino Mdlongwa (21) together with her young brother, Nkanyiso Mdlongwa (16), saying he wanted to kill himself.
CITE reported police sources as saying Ebinerng did not reveal the reason why he wanted to end his life. Said a source:

The two (Awakhiwe Mdlongwa and Nkanyiso Mdlongwa) heard Walter saying he was going to commit suicide but did not reveal the cause.

After overhearing what the deceased had stated Awakhiwe, advised her mother, Sikhathele Ebinerng.
The family reportedly retired to bed just after midnight and left the deceased seated inside his car.
The following morning, Ebinerng’s wife left for Filabusi but did not check for her husband’s whereabouts.
At around 3.20 PM, that same day, she received a phone call from her daughter that he was unconscious in his car. Said the police sources:

Sikhathele instructed the informant to call Netstar ambulance who then attended the scene and observed that Walter was already dead.
The team leader of Netstar ambulance, Flora Nicola Tshuma, together with the informant proceeded to ZRP QueensPark and made a report.

The police attended the scene and conducted searches on the body.
They found two cellphones, a Samsung and an ITEL phone, a black wallet with a national identity and defaced police ID.
The police officers also recovered an empty 200ML red bottle (faded) from the bin which is suspected to be the one which had poison.

Retired Top Police Officer Commits Suicide

A 52-year-old man from New Cranborne in Harare shot himself to death following a dispute with his 46-year-old wife on Tuesday.
The man, Pasipamire Kanyimo, shot himself after his wife only identified as Virginia had allegedly told him that she did not want to be in a relationship with him anymore, according to H-metro. 
An argument followed which assumedly forced Kanyimo to manhandle his wife Virginia leaving her unconscious. 
Kanyimo somehow believed that he had just murdered his own wife who was now lying unconscious.
He hurriedly left the scene and shot himself to death on the left side of his head. Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the incident. Said Insp Chakanza:

Police are investigating a case involving a man believed to have shot himself to death in Cranborne. 
Circumstances were that the wife had a misunderstanding with the now deceased”.
One of the house occupants said the now deceased told her that he was going to shoot himself and she ran to their neighbour for assistance.

On their return, they found the now deceased lying in a pool of blood.
In August this year, a 59-year-old Harare man shot himself once in the head with a gun at his house in Gunhill under unclear circumstances.
Suicide cases continue to increase countrywide with some attributing the rise to depression, a condition that has been prevalent in the country since the eruption of COVID-19.

Harare Man Shoots Himself During A Dispute With His Wife

A Grade 6 pupil at Seventh-day Adventist Church-run Lowveld Primary School in Chiredzi hung himself from a tree last Tuesday after he was reprimanded by his mother.
The boy, Frank Muvavarirwa (12), of Makondo Extension, took his own life after being ordered to return two clay pots (mbiya) he allegedly picked at an apostolic sect shrine.
Frank hung himself from a tree in a bushy area near his parents’ house at around 9 AM after his mother Rangarirai Chamisa had instructed him to return the two clay pots he had brought home.
The Mirror reported a source as saying the mother thought that Frank had taken the clay pots from a shrine and a Madzibaba could cast a bad spell on the family. Said the source:

Frank came home carrying two pots at around 9 am and his mother instructed him to take them back because she suspected that they belong to a Madzibaba who could cast a curse on him.
He left home with the pots and did not return. His mother went looking for him only to find him hanging from a tree in a nearby bush.
