BBC Africa has released a documentary investigating the renowned televangelist TB Joshua, titled ‘Man of God? Or predatory cult leader?’ The documentary explores claims made by some individuals close to Joshua, suggesting that he was a fraud. In the first episode, two young women from Britain watch a video that portrays a Nigerian preacher who can supposedly heal the sick and cure diseases like cancer and AIDS. Intrigued, they decide to visit his church in Lagos and become his disciples. However, life as a disciple turns out to be different from their expectations.
The BBC Africa Eye investigations team, known for their award-winning work, delves into this shocking journey of manipulation and horrifying acts committed by one of the most influential religious figures of the 21st century. The documentary features firsthand testimonies and historical footage, as twelve survivors bravely speak out together for the first time, shedding light on their experiences within the religious cult led by Joshua. <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2021/06/07/magaya-angel-mourn-tb-joshua/">TB Joshua died in June 2021,</a> just before his 58th birthday. The cause of his death has not been disclosed, although reports are suggesting he had been unwell for two days before his passing.
BBC says the documentary aims to reveal the truth behind the charismatic preacher’s controversial actions and provide insight into the experiences of those who were drawn into his religious cult, only to suffer devastating consequences.

Man Of God? Or Predatory Cult Leader? BBC Investigation Into TB Joshua

In one of his last interviews, <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/07/08/mourners-reportedly-vomited-blood-at-tb-joshuas-funeral/">the late Nigerian preacher</a> TB Joshua spoke in explicit terms about succession plans saying he would not anoint his wife as his successor.
This comes as his widow <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/06/18/tb-joshuas-wife-evelyn-appointed-scoans-new-leader/">Evelyn Joshua has been named the new leader</a> of The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN).
In an interview published in This Day Newspaper on June 13th 2021 under the headline ‘Why It’s Difficult For Me To Display My Wife’, Joshua explained the work of God was “not a business venture” and “the issue of the family should not come into the issue of the church”.
When asked about his immediate family’s role in The SCOAN, the late cleric explained:
<blockquote>_I would have loved my wife to be like me but I cannot make her what I am; it is God. It is not possible for me to anoint her; God is the one that anoints people. This is not a biological issue; it is inherited from the saints, it is a partaker from the saints. Therefore, I should not use anything in my biological life to stop my spiritual life._</blockquote>
He further described The SCOAN as “an apostolic ministry” that required God’s anointing to minister in, not theological training or biological connection.
<blockquote>_I am a native of Arigidi-Akoko but as for my divine nature I am a partaker of the inheritance of the saints, therefore, it is so difficult for me._
_This is an apostolic ministry. It is not a ministry where you read the Bible, go to theology school and you start preaching. No! It is purely divine. So, it is so difficult for me to display my wife. She has to be ready for God. As much as you are ready for God, God will display her._</blockquote>
When the journalist asked in clear-cut terms who would take over his ministry, Joshua responded by calling on him to observe the recent activities on Emmanuel TV, the popular television channel owned by The SCOAN. He said:
<blockquote>_Don’t you watch Emmanuel TV? This is a year now or six months since I preached last and the church still continues. There are five prophets and prophetesses; they are working. They have taken over from me already. There is an American, a British, a French, and a Nigerian._</blockquote>
Joshua was finally laid to rest last week on Friday, July 9th 2021 within The SCOAN premises after a series of services celebrating his life and legacy.

What TB Joshua Said On Succession Plans

Mourners reportedly vomited blood and other poisonous substances at TB Joshua’s week-long funeral service as he lies in state at his church, The Synagogue, Church of all Nations (SCOAN) in Lagos.
A tweet posted by the church on Thursday afternoon suggested that the late Nigerian pastor and televangelist was “still performing miracles” even when he is dead. Reads the statement:
<blockquote>_Further manifestation of God’s power at the lying-in-state programme for Prophet T.B. Joshua as more people fall under the influence of the Holy Ghost, vomiting blood and other poisonous substances at the lying-in-state programme for Prophet T.B. Joshua. #TBJoshuaLegacy._</blockquote>
Hundreds of mourners filled the SCOAN on Thursday, for day four of the week-long funeral, to pay their final respects to TB Joshua who died on June 5 shortly after a live broadcast.
Images posted on Joshua’s official Twitter page, show the preacher lying in a glass casket state wearing white pants, a white shirt and white shoes.
According to reports out of Lagos, Joshua’s body was escorted by a motorcade of motorcycles during the procession to The SCOAN, in Ikotun-Egbe, Lagos.
Joshua will be laid to rest on Friday and this segment of the funeral procession will also be open to the public, although with limited seating in line with Covid-19 regulations.
The week-long procession will culminate in a thanksgiving service on Sunday, which will also be physically open to only a limited number of people.
