Warriors forward Tawanda Maswanhise scored twice as Motherwell secured a 2-1 victory over Dundee United at Tannadice in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday, ending their two-match losing streak.
Maswanhise netted in both halves, while Sam Dalby scored for United. The win moved Motherwell to fourth in the Premiership table.
United fielded the same team that lost to Aberdeen, while Motherwell made three changes from their defeat to Celtic.
Maswanhise opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, with VAR confirming the goal. Dalby equalized in the 36th minute.
Maswanhise scored the decisive goal in the 74th minute after capitalising on a defensive error.
The 21-year-old, who signed a contract extension this month, has made seven appearances this season so far.
Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell heaped praise on Maswanhise, describing him as “a bright lively character.” Said Kettlewell:

Zimbabwean-born Leicester City forward Tawanda Maswanhise has expressed his desire to play for the Warriors if given the opportunity to do so.
Soccer24 reported that Maswanhise (20), has spent over ten years in the Leicester City development structures.
He has made immense progress at the Foxes, to the point of being included in the Premier League matchday squad for the first team last season.
Speaking at the Veterans Football Tournament held in Leicester sponsored by funeral services company Zororo Phumulani, Maswanhise said:

National Teams General Manager Wellington Mpandare expressed his excitement over Maswanhise’s desire to play for Zimbabwe. He said:

Maswanhise was born in Zimbabwe and moved to the United Kingdom at the age of two.
He has previously been targeted by Warriors coaches, including Norman Mapeza before the 2021 AFCON finals in Cameroon.

Leicester City Forward Pledges Allegiance To Warriors

Tawanda Maswanhise, the son of former top Zimbabwean sprinter, Jeffrey Maswanhise on Monday scored a brilliant goal as Leicester City City’s Under 23s beat Everton 3-1.
The win gave them their first three points of the campaign.
It was the Foxes who broke the deadlock, when McAteer’s shot was parried by Zan Luk Leban, into the path of Wakeling, who tapped home for his third of the season, in all competitions.
The hosts were now starting to control possession and just over 10 minutes before the break, Maswanhise doubled City’s lead when he shifted the ball onto his left foot and powered a strike into the far top corner.
Early in the second half, Maswanhise continued to cause problems, first seeing a shot diverted off-target via a block and, after Marcal-Madivadua glided through, firing past the near post.
The third goal arrived just before the hour mark when Daley-Campbell exchanged a one-two with Sammy Braybrooke down the right, and drove the ball hard and low into the far corner, from a tight angle.
Rhys Hughes scored a consolation, deep into stoppage-time.
The Foxes climbed up above Everton, and into ninth place, in the early Premier League 2 Division 1 standings, with five points, from their opening four games of the 2021/22 season.
There have been calls from Warriors fans to consider the 18-year-old Maswanhise for selection into the national team.
