Police have confirmed a fatal road traffic accident that occurred on Wednesday around 2 PM at the 5-kilometre peg along the Wedza-Mutiweshiri Road.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi on Thursday said that seven people lost their lives and nine others were injured when a Toyota Quantum carrying 15 passengers veered off the road and overturned before landing back on its wheels.
Five passengers died at the scene, while two others succumbed to their injuries after being admitted to St Mary’s Hospital in Wedza. The deceased have been identified by their next of kin as follows:
<ul>
<li>Evans Marerwa (37) a male adult of Kuwadzana 5, Harare and employed by the Ministry of Home Affairs as a police officer stationed at Police General Headquarters.</li>
<li>Liberty Marerwa (31), a male adult of Kuwadzana 5, Harare</li>
<li>Wirimai Munhuuripi (49), a male adult of Norton</li>
<li>Mendy Marerwa (12), a female juvenile of Kuwadzana 5, Harare</li>
<li>Panashe Marerwa (25), a male adult of Kuwadzana 5, Harare</li>
<li>Yvonne Meki (26), a female adult of Kuwadzana 5, Harare</li>
<li>Ethel Mhena (1), a female infant of 4902 Kuwadzana 5, Harare.</li>
</ul>
Commissioner Nyathi urged motorists to exercise utmost caution and adhere to speed limits to reduce the occurrence of road accidents.

Seven Killed As Toyota Quantum Overturns On Wedza-Mutiweshiri Road

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has identified five more victims of an accident involving a Toyota Quantum vehicle and a DAF truck that occurred at the 27-kilometre peg along Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road on 14 November.
Initially, police released the names of fifteen out of twenty-two people who perished in the head-on collision.
In a statement released today, Monday 20 November, ZRP spokesperson Assistant Commissioner named five more victims of the accident after they were identified by their next of kin. Read the statement:

Reference is made to the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s press statement on 16th November 2023 on the identification of the 22 victims who were killed whilst two others were injured when a Toyota Quantum motor vehicle with 21 passengers on board was involved in a head-on collision with a DAF truck with one passenger on board on 14th November 2023 at the 27 Kilometre peg along Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police releases the names of five of the seven victims who were yet to be identified by their next of kin.
The five victims were identified by their next of kin as listed:-

<li>Thandiwe Dubani (41), a female adult of New Lobengula, Bulawayo</li>
<li>Bukekile Tshuma (24) a female adult Entumbane Bulawayo</li>
<li>Velaphi Ndebele (40) of Zhombe area</li>
<li>Gracious Dube (28), a female adult of Cowdray Park, Bulawayo</li>
<li>Nkosiyabo Ndebele (3 years) a male infant of Zhombe</li>
</ul>
The other two victims are yet to be identified by their next of kin.
