A female traditional healer is facing aggravated indecent assault charges after allegedly forcing herself on a 17-year-old mentally challenged boy whom she was meant to assist with her healing powers, reported <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/drama-as-sangoma-rapes-mentally-challenged-teenager/">H-Metro</a>.
Catherine Nhongo, 39, appeared before Harare regional magistrate Donald Ndirowei, who remanded her in custody to this Wednesday for bail considerations.
The court heard that on November 10, the boy’s sister encountered Nhongo while returning from the shops. She informed Nhongo about her brother’s speech difficulties and other disabilities, prompting Nhongo to offer her help.
The sister accompanied Nhongo back to their home, where Nhongo requested beer and cigarettes to begin the spiritual proceedings. The boy’s brother went to fetch the items, which Nhongo consumed upon his return.
During the session, Nhongo ordered the boy’s brother to put mealie meal in the boy’s mouth. She then began touching the boy inappropriately and instructed his siblings to leave the house, insisting on being alone with him. They complied.
After about 15 minutes, the siblings heard strange sounds coming from inside. The boy eventually emerged, raising his hands as if trying to communicate something. He took his brother’s phone and typed that Nhongo had raped him.
Alarmed, the brother alerted his sisters, who subsequently contacted the police. Nhongo attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by the boy’s brother.

A woman who heals people in a special way was arrested for doing something bad to a teenage boy with a disability. She touched him in a wrong way while they were together. The boy's brother and sisters heard something strange and found out she had hurt the boy. The sisters called the police, and the woman tried to run away but was caught. She now has to go to court. The woman was not supposed to do what she did to the boy.

Female Traditional Healer Arrested For "Raping" Boy (17) During Healing Session

A 51-year-old man employed by Zimsend Bulawayo as a driver, Bongani Matshazi, lost US$7 000 and ZAR10 000 to a traditional healer and then reported a case of robbery to the Police to cover the theft.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) alleges that on 29 February 2024, Matshazi, whose duties include delivering cash to Zimsend money transfer outlets, was instructed to deliver US$7 000 and ZAR10 000 to an outlet in Plumtree.
But before he left Bulawayo for Plumtree, Matshazi went to see his traditional healer, Dr Musa who had previously instructed him to bring money from his workplace for a ritual for him to get promoted.
Matshazi allegedly handed over US$7 000 and ZAR10 000 for the ritual. Musa wrapped the money in a black cloth and performed the ritual.
When Matshazi got home to perform the last part of the ritual he realized that Musa had swapped the money for ZWL$100 notes and paper cuttings.
He then reported a case of robbery to the Police to cover the theft. Matshazi claimed he was robbed at Khami Bridge on his way to Plumtree.
However, during investigations, the vehicle tracker revealed that he never stopped at Khami Bridge, instead he had stopped for a considerable time at the location where he met Musa. He had no choice but to come clean to the Police.
Matshazi was arraigned before the Plumtree Magistrates Court facing charges of making a false report to the Police.
He did not waste the court’s time and pleaded guilty to the charge wherein he was sentenced to a fine of US$200 or 5 months imprisonment.

Traditional Healer Steals US$7 000, ZAR10 000 From Client

A 29-year-old man from Nyanga claims that “baboons” are visiting his family demanding the money he owes a local traditional healer.
Innocent Ndaruza told <a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/baboons-sent-to-collect-debt/">The Manica Post</a> that the local traditional healer, Sekuru Chihwa “helped” his wife to conceive.
He said his wife who had struggled to conceive fell pregnant soon after they sought the services of Sekuru Chihwa.
Ndaruza claimed that baboons now frequent his homestead. He said while sleeping, he and his wife hear voices singing outside, shouting that he needed to pay what he owed Sekuru Chihwa. He said:

My father has two sons and we both do not have children. I ended up marrying a second wife, thinking that my first wife could not conceive. She went through so many miscarriages.
When I decided to consult Sekuru Chihwa, my brother refused to do so citing his religious beliefs.
Sekuru Chihwa told me that the person who was causing our problems would fall ill when my wife conceived. This came to pass as my father fell ill as soon as my wife became pregnant; he is still bedridden as we speak.
Sekuru Chihwa charged me US$150 for his services. I was supposed to pay it over two months. However, I failed to do so because I lost my job a month after consulting Sekuru Chihwa.
Months later when I raised the money, I went back to Sekuru Chihwa and tried to reason with him to accept my payment, but he refused, arguing that the time that his ancestors had given me had lapsed.
Sekuru Chihwa told me that I would have frequent baboon visits at my homestead. At times, one baboon comes but at times, it will be the whole troop.
These unusual visitors sit in my yard and demand the money I owe Sekuru Chihwa. When it happened for the first time, I rushed to Sekuru Chihwa with US$200, but he refused to accept it.
The baboons come to my homestead once a week in broad daylight and at night we hear voices of people singing that I should pay what I owe them.
I do not know how far Sekuru Chihwa will take this. I fear that my wife or the child she is carrying might not make it because the baboons and voices claim that they will take back what belongs to them, which in this case is the pregnancy.

Ndaruza’s neighbour and uncle, Jack Ndaruza, claimed they also witnessed the baboon visits. He said:
<blockquote>
What is happening at my nephew’s homestead is stranger than fiction. If you have not witnessed it, you will think that it is a lie.
I saw one of the baboons with my own two eyes. They speak and it is frightening as I have never seen anything like this before.
</blockquote>
However, Sekuru Chihwa denied sending the baboons during an interview with The Manica Post.
He also denied orchestrating the mysterious things that were taking place at the Ndaruza homestead, saying it was the work of his ancestors. He said:
<blockquote>
I am only being used by my ancestral spirits. They are the ones who helped his wife to conceive.
They performed a “go back to sender” to the person who was behind the family’s barrenness.
It is true that this man approached me and we helped him. I told him to pay in two months, but he failed. He came back five months later with the money. Maybe he doubted my powers.
I never asked him to pay consultation fees when he visited me for my services. I felt his pain, but he later reneged on his promise to settle what I charged him for the services.

He said the US$150 that Ndaruza owed him had accrued US$300 interest.
Sekuru Chihwa told the publication that he had decided to forgive Ndaruza and would take only the US$150 that he had charged him. He said:
<blockquote>
I am doing this because you have approached me on his behalf, otherwise, my ancestors were really angry with him for failing to honour our agreement.
If you are still in touch with him, tell him that the money should be paid before the end of September. If he fails to do so, then it will be a lost cause.

Nyanga Man Alleges Harassment By Baboons "Sent" By Traditional Healer

Fifty-eight (58) Zimbabweans have fallen victim to a scam orchestrated by three foreign individuals who falsely posed as traditional healers on Facebook.
Kimbugwe Ibrah from Uganda and Hillary Ssebunya, and Godfrey Nanasira from Zambia, arrived in Zimbabwe in May. Operating through Facebook pages named Sekuru Banda, Gamora, and The Great Jenko, they duped their victims by claiming to possess the power to cure HIV, reunite lost lovers, and perform money magic.
The fraudsters registered multiple SIM cards and received funds via InnBucks. To further deceive their targets, they presented a black trunk containing ceremonial attire as evidence of their rituals. Investigations revealed that the trio used part of the ill-gotten money to support their families and sustain their stay in Zimbabwe.
Dennis Mnyega collaborated with them in advertising their services on Facebook and distributing flyers. Victims, including Stanford Chaka and Miriam Kangaza, responded to the advertisements, sending money through InnBucks in exchange for promised HIV medication and money multiplication.
The police recovered the trunk and other related items from Nanasira’s bedroom. It was discovered that some of the funds were sent to their families in their home countries while the rest was used for personal expenses. Grace Mugocheke represented the State in the case.

58 Zimbabweans Scammed On Facebook By Three Foreigners Posing As Traditional Healers

The Traditional Medical Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe (TMPCZ) has directed all traditional healers and faith healers to be registered for them to continue practising.
This comes after the Ministry of Health and Child Care directed faith healers and herbalists from both churches and traditional religion to obtain licences for their operations.
In a recent statement, TMPCZ directed unregistered Traditional Health Practitioners to register in their respective provinces. Reads the statement:
The Traditional Medical Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe (TMPCZ) hereby gives notice to all unregistered Traditional Health Practitioners to go and register in their respective provinces. The required categories are:
<blockquote>
1. Traditional Healers/Faith Healers, including Prophets and Apostles/Bishops/Traditional Birth Attendants/Spirit Mediums
2. Churches
3. Local and Foreign Traditional Medical Associations
4. Associations representing all categories of different practitioners
5. Herbalists/Herbal Gardens/Traditional Wholesalers/Shops
6. Distributors/Manufacturers of Traditional Medicine
7. Traditional Surgeries/Clinics
8. Training Institutions
The council kindly informs Practitioners that it is a legal requirement to register with the TMPCZ in terms of the Traditional Medical Practitioners Act Chapter 27:14 (Act 38/1981, 6/2000(s. 151), 22/2001 (s. 4), 14/2022 (s. 42)).
Chapter 27:14 Part VI Section 31 stipulates that a person who practices or carries the business as a traditional medical practitioner without being registered is liable to a fine not exceeding (US$400.00) or imprisonment for a period not exceeding two years or to both such fine and such imprisonment.
Traditional Medical Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe is a public entity under the purview of the Ministry of Health and Child Care.
We expect that by the end of March 2023, all legal abiding practitioners will have paid their practicing licenses.
