Shamiso Fred, Zimbabwe’s former honorary consul to the United Arab Emirates, recently appeared in the Harare Magistrates Court on charges of defrauding a group of women. Fred, along with her organisation, the African Business Woman Association (ABWA), is accused of deceiving the women into investing a total of US$193,000.
According to the state’s case, Fred allegedly advertised on various social media platforms, inviting clients to invest in ABWA. She claimed that the organisation specialised in egg production and dairy farming, <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200019379/ex-diplomat-in-court-for-fraud">NewsDay</a> reported. Prospective investors were required to pay a non-refundable joining fee of USD$39 and invest varying amounts of money depending on the project. Those interested in the egg production business had to invest US$1,000, while those interested in the dairy farming project had to invest US$2,000. In return, they were promised monthly profits of US$250 for egg production and US$450 for the dairy project.
It is alleged that 16 individuals invested various amounts totalling US$196,553 and £2,072 between December 2020 and October 2022. However, when their investments matured, only three investors received a total of US$19,005 as their share of the profits. The remaining investors did not receive any returns on their investments.
The complainants, most of whom reside outside the country, reported the fraudulent activities to the police, leading to Fred’s arrest. She appeared before Magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa, who granted her bail of US$500.

Zimbabwe's Former Diplomat In Court For Defrauding A Group Of Women US$193,000

The Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Kazembe Kazembe, is in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on an official visit.
According to the <a href="https://www.wam.ae/en/details/1395303093733">Emirates News Agency</a>, Kazembe visited the Dubai Police General Headquarters and Dubai Smart Police Station (SPS) at City Walk recently.
Kazembe was welcomed by Major General Dr Adel Al Suwaidi, Director of Jebel Ali police station, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Police Stations and a number of senior officers. Reported the Emirates News Agency:

The delegation was introduced to the various services provided by the Dubai Smart Police Station (SPS) to the customers in 7 languages around the clock and without human intervention, including 27 key services, such as reporting crimes and traffic incidents, as well as a further 33 community-based services, which range from obtaining a good-conduct certificate to social support for victims of family violence.
They were accompanied to the Command and Control Centre where they were briefed about the latest services and initiatives that enhance security and safety in the emirate.
They also learned about the centre’s equipment and latest additions such as the 3D map that covers Dubai and the patrol dispatching system that ensures swift and efficient response to reports and emergency calls.
They also toured both the Director of the General Directorate of Traffic and the General Department of Criminal Investigation and presented by Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazroui and Major General Jamal Salem Al Jalaf the best practices and services provided by the Departments in combating organised and financial transnational crimes and other topics of mutual interests.
Toward the end of the visit, Kazembe expressed his appreciation for the warm reception and praised Dubai Police’s utilisation of the latest technologies.

Kazembe Tours Dubai Police General Headquarters And Dubai Smart Police Station

The United Arab Emirates have proposed to build a medicine factory in Zimbabwe at a time when the country has a huge deficit of medicines and health equipment.
The plan was revealed by UAE Ambassador to South Africa, Mr Mahash Saeed Al Hamily, during the handover of medical equipment and surgical supplies at NatPharm in Harare. The handouts were donated by the United Arab Emirates.
The Ambassador is quoted as having said:
<blockquote>Our plan, also apart from supply of medicines to Harare, is to build a medicine factory within Zimbabwe.</blockquote>
Speaking at the same event, President Emmerson Mnangagwa said that the partnership between UAE and Zimbabwe would work to reduce the cost of drugs in local medical institutions.
He also revealed that Zimbabwe was also partnering with India to boost the health sector.
