Mavis Mada, an 18-year-old woman from Hwedza who survived a brutal gang attack by five women on July 4, 2024, has completed a nurse aide training course.
The assault, which was filmed by the assailants, lasted four hours. The assailants inflicted severe abuse on Mada, including inserting three sticks into her private parts.
According to <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/battered-hwedza-woman-completes-nursing-aide-course/">H-Metro</a>, Dr Michael Mandaza offered Mavis a free three-month training course at Pacific 24Hour Hospital in Mabvuku, where she also received rehabilitation support for her physical and mental recovery. He said:

We will inform you on her next step after consulting her parents.

Dr Mandaza said that the training initiative was intended to empower Mavis and help her become self-sufficient.
Mavis failed her Ordinary Level examinations two years ago and has been living with her grandmother in Hwedza.
Her mother works as a housemaid in Harare, and her father passed away.
Pacific 24Hour Hospital covered all expenses related to her training, including uniforms, food, and accommodation for the duration of the course.
Mavis’ assailants, four of whom are juveniles under the age of 18 and one aged 19, were arrested after the video of the assault went viral on social media.
They were found guilty of multiple offences, including aggravated indecent assault, cyberbullying, unlawful detention, and assault.
Vimbai Mike (19) and a 17-year-old woman, who is married with two children, were each sentenced to a total of five years in prison for indecent assault.
They received an additional year for cyberbullying related to the posting of the victim’s video on social media, one year for unlawful detention, and another year for assault. However, these sentences will run concurrently within the five-year term.
The other three juveniles involved were spared custodial sentences on the condition that they refrain from committing similar offences for the next five years.
The court heard that on July 4, 2024, at 11:00 AM, Vimbai Mike (19), Rudo Manjere (17), Lilly Rose Munyoro (16), Lillian Chido Munyoro (17) and Sandra Vhumbunu (17), lured 18-year-old Mavis Mada to Vimbai Mike’s homestead in Mupfuuri village under the pretence of giving her vegetable seedlings.
Once there, they locked her in a hut, stripped her naked, and took turns assaulting her with sticks, inserting three sticks into her private parts while recording the incident.
Mavis lost consciousness, and the suspects poured water on her before releasing her at 3:00 PM.
The subsequent arrest of the suspects led to the recovery of a Vivo cellphone that had been used to record the assault.

The oldest woman and a married woman got the same sentence. The younger women were not sent to jail but have to be good for five years. They hurt the victim really badly, and the police found the video on a phone. The women did a very bad thing, and now they are being punished for it.

Hwedza Women In Viral Assault Video Found Guilty, Sentenced To Five Years In Jail

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the arrest of five teenagers who were allegedly involved in stripping naked and assaulting another teenager, following the viral spread of a video of the attack.
In a statement issued on Thursday, July 11, 2024, ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi revealed that the incident occurred on July 4, 2024, in Wedza, Mashonaland East Province.
According to the police statement, three of the alleged assailants are 17 years old, one is 16 years old, and the fifth individual is 19 years old. The victim in this case is an 18-year-old. Read the statement:

Reference is made to our post on the Zimbabwe Republic Police X handle on 10 July 2024 on a viral video circulating on social media platforms in which a female victim is being assaulted by a group of female suspects.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Vimbai Mike (19), Rudo Manjere (17), Lilly Rose Munyoro (16), Lillian Chido Munyoro (17) and Sandra Vhumbunu (17) on 10 July 2024 in connection with the case of aggravated indecent assault which occurred at Mupfuuri Village, Wedza on 04. Investigations by the police revealed that on 04 July 2024 at 1100 hours, Rudo Manjere, Lilly Rose Munyoro and Lillian Chido Munyoro lured the victim, Mavis Mada (18), to Vimbai Mike’s homestead at Mupfuuri Village, Wedza on the pretext that they wanted to give her vegetable seedlings. The suspects locked the victim in one of the huts and stripped her naked.
The five suspects took turns to assault the victim with switches and went on to insert three sticks into the victim’s private parts whilst recording a video.
The victim fell unconscious and the suspects poured water on her before freeing her naked at 1500 hours.
The arrest of the suspects led to the recovery of a Vivo cellphone which was used to record the assault incident.
Vimbai Mike is detained in Police custody while the other four suspects, who are juveniles, have been released in custody of their parents and they will be taken to court for the due processes of the law to take its course.
The complainant is alive and is currently receiving medical attention at Mount St Mary’s Hospital.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police implores the public to settle disputes amicably without resorting to violence. The law will take its course in this case without fear or favour.

Police Arrest Five Teens For Stripping And Assaulting Girl In Wedza

Three people were killed while 27 others were injured when a commuter omnibus side-swiped with a Mandaza bus in Hwedza (Wedza) on Monday.
In a statement released on 18 April, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the bus veered off the road before landing on its left side.
The accident occurred at the 29-kilometre peg along Wedza- Mutiweshiri Road. Said Asst Comm. Nyathi:

The bodies of the victims were taken to St Mary’s Hospital, Wedza for post-mortem while the injured are admitted at the same hospital.

Asst Comm. implored public service vehicle drivers to be cautious on the roads and comply with all road rules and regulations to safeguard lives.
Meanwhile, a concerned citizen, Diva Mandeya said authorities are unprepared to respond to disasters such as major accidents.
In a post on Twitter, Mandeya narrated how members of the public worked with authorities with very few resources to save people who were trapped in the wreckage of the Mandaza Bus. <a href="https://twitter.com/DivaMandeya/status/1648109741313228801">Below is Mandeya’s Twitter thread</a>:

[AT] 9 am we got an alarm a fatal accident had happened 2.5km from Goto Business Center paGanyau.
I quickly changed my itinerary and rushed with 2 employees to see what help we could render. 20 mins later we discovered we were in for a huge responsibility.
A few motorists were already ferrying the injured to our poorly equipped clinic at Goto, 3km away.
There were people trapped under the bus lying on its side &amp; a child could be heard crying helplessly.
It was a hounding &amp; desperate situation that villagers frantically pulling out the injured could not do much about.
Shortly police officers arrived but they were bemused by the magnitude of the crisis.
Traffic control on the highway became orderly but there was no command on how to proceed with the rescue mission.
There was total confusion. More officers and an ambulance arrived in good time including nursing staff from Mt St Mary’s Mission Hospital 27 km away.
Commendably, the injured were ferried to the local clinic in the ambulance and several private vehicles.
The real problem was what to do with the trapped of which the crisis was magnified by haphazard police action.
There was absolutely no command element directing operations. Every person who had an idea tried to prevail over the other but there was no meaningful rescue effort.
There was no qualified rescue personnel until a Marondera fire brigade rescue team arrived 4 hrs later from 100km away.
We mobilized a tractor from a local businessman but it could not pull the bus to save the trapped.
Later a JCB from Wedza GP arrived &amp; combined wt the tractor to lift the bus off the trapped people but failed.
We ended up using jacks, picks, and shovels to try and dig the people out to no avail. We could see &amp; tell the people had died.
In spite of warnings from police about damaging the bus we used axes to cut up metal but we fell short until we rushed back home to get a generator and a grinder which become the best improvisation.
After some arduous cutting and bending we managed to retrieve the first body 5 hours later. 2 were still trapped.
Working with the ill-equipped Marondera men we retrieved the other two bodies around 4 pm amid wailing and heart-rending mourning from relatives who had arrived from Mutare, almost 200km away.
I feel haunted as l write this thread now. The sounds are ringing in my ears as l type. It’s traumatic.
l feel that some of the accidents happening in this country can be avoided.
a). Highways must not be left littered with deep potholes
b) Speed dzemabhazi anonzi Yuotong are not appropriate for our roads.
c) Police need emergency rescue training. They were clueless.
d) Every district must have appropriate rescue equipment &amp; services
e) Accident scenes or any crime scene must have a clear command element and structure.
f) Highways need centre line markings and overtaking restriction lines.
g) Overloading is going unchecked.
h) The Youtong bell/ hooter is too alarming. It can cause dangerous panic and disorientation to other motorists.
These are my humble recommendations. I am not OK tonite. We have responsibilities that we need to embrace as citizens of Zim.

PS. Mandaza Bus Company only brought contingency for the recovery of their bus. Damaged luggage and stranded passengers had nowhere to go and no recourse.
We had to ferry, accommodate &amp; feed 6 survivors whose fate is unclear as far as compensation is concerned.

3 People Perish In Hwedza Bus Accident

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the arrest of <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Jaison_Muvhevhi">Jaison Muvevi</a> who has been on the run since Friday last week after he gunned down three people in Wedza, including a top police officer, and injured a detective constable.
In a statement issued on Monday, 16 January, ZRP Senior Staff Officer (Press and Public Relations), Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said Muvevi was arrested in Mozambique today in the morning.
He also revealed the identities of Muvevi’s alleged victims who include an apostolic sect leader who was shot at point-blank while preaching to his congregants in the veld. Reads the statement:

ZRP Confirms Arrest Of Fugitive Wedza Suspected Murderer, Jaison Muvevi, In Mozambique

An unknown gunman shot and killed three people in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Wedza">Wedza</a> including Officer in Charge Wedza, a local prophet and another person while another police officer is said to be critically injured.
In a statement seen by Pindula News, police national spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the shooting happened today 13 January 2023 around 1430 hours. Reads the statement:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police is urgently appealing for information which may immediately lead to the arrest of a suspect who is driving a Toyota Allion, new shape, white in colour, registration number AFW 7641.
The suspect went to an apostolic sect church gathering in Wedza today at 1430 hours and fatally shot dead a prophet. He then pounced on police officers who had reacted to the shooting and suddenly shot dead Officer in Charge Wedza and another policeman (who is critically injured).
The suspect drove his vehicle and went to Mukamba Business Centre where he shot another person dead and drove away. The suspect is currently on the run and the public is urged to approach him with extreme caution.
