According to The Herald, these are some of the key developments at Wilkins Hospitals that are supposed to have been complete in time for the<a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/03/31/wilkins-upgrade-now-at-an-advanced-stage-hospital-to-reopen-tomorrow-report/"> hospital’s reopening tomorrow</a>:
<ol>
<li>Four of the seven anticipated ventilators for the Intensive Care Unit have since been delivered to the isolation centre, with installation expected to be done today.</li>
<li>Ordinary lightning has been replaced with LED fluorescent lambs with between eight and sixteen power points in each room.</li>
<li>Solar-powered power back-up has also been installed.</li>
<li>Apart from Harare water, an additional borehole will be set up today to ensure a consistent supply of tap water.</li>
<li>Traditional crosshead taps have also been replaced with the elbow type across all rooms.</li>
<li>A nurses station with new furniture and a CCTV connected to each room has also been established for easy monitoring of patients.</li>
<li>The outside outlook for the hospital has also been enhanced with freshly painted outlook.</li>

LIST: Refurbishments Done At Wilkins Hospital So Far

The refurbishment of <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Wilkins_Hospital" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Wilkins Infectious Disease Hospital</a> is reported to be nearing completion after Chinese companies operating in Zimbabwe invested more than US$500 000 for the programme.
Wilkins Hospital has been mandated to treat coronavirus patients from across the country.
Speaking to The Herald in a telephone interview, China Africa, Economic and Culture Exchange Research Centre chairman Zivanai Steve Zhao, said:
<blockquote>We are expecting some of the equipment to arrive in the country this week. We want Wilkins Infectious Disease Hospital to match international standards in combating the pandemic. The teams on the construction site are now working 24 hours to speed up the upgrading of the hospital.
… As of now, we have nine doctors from Wuhan in China. Those who are in the country are training local doctors to fight the pandemic. If the need arises more doctors from China will be coming to Zimbabwe to contain the spread of the pandemic, which is a global phenomenon.</blockquote>
Zhao also revealed that an additional US$150 000 had also been put together for the procurement of medical equipment, which includes an oxygen machine, breathing machine, test kits and protective suits, masks and other protective clothes for health workers.

Renovation Of Wilkins Hospital Almost Complete

The Herald has reported that the nurse who attended to Zororo Makamba upon arrival at the Wilkins hospital is allegedly unwell and presently in isolation.
The publication further reports that results for coronavirus tests that were taken on the nurse are yet to return to establish whether she was infected or not.
This comes when the Makamba family is accusing the Harare City Council-run Wilkins Hospital of not doing enough to save the life of the 30-year-old journalist who succumbed to coronavirus on Monday.
Makamba became Zimbabwe’s first confirmed coronavirus death sliding the country into a great panic.
There has been blameshifting between the Harare City Council and the Makamba family over the death of the “most-promising” journalist.
While authorities claim that the country is prepared to deal with the virus, the Makamba family claims otherwise.
