Former Warriors captain <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Willard_Katsande">Willard Katsande</a> says he is interested in coaching South African premiership club Kaizer Chiefs and Zimbabwe’s senior men’s football team.
Katsande hung up his boots in 2022 and is currently part of the technical staff at Crystal Lake in South Africa’s SAB league.
Speaking during South Africa’s premium sports show #Marawa Sports Worldwide, which is hosted by prominent sportscaster Robert Marawa, Katsande said:

Yes, I still want to coach the Warriors and Kaizer Chiefs very soon. As soon as I complete my coaching qualifications, I’m gonna go knock on the door.
</blockquote>
Katsande, who is a holder of a CAF D licence and is set to go for CAF C in June, said he was not in a hurry to sit on the Kaizer Chiefs technical bench. He said:

I think in four years I will not just lead the team but win trophies. I’m gonna try to change the game, the way people see Kaizer Chiefs.

Katsande started off playing for the low division one league where he played for virtually unknown teams such as Frontier Steel Football Club, Feruka Football Club and Highway Football Club.
It was when he played for the latter that Katsande was spotted by the 2010 Zimbabwean Premier Soccer League champions, Gunners Football Club. The same year, the Gunners brought the midfielder to play in the top-flight league in Harare.
He was outstanding in all Gunners Champions League matches but impressed the coaches very much in the team’s 1-0 victory over former African champions Al Ahly at Rufaro Stadium.
It was on that occasion Katsande’s fortunes were turned as he was spotted by Ajax Cape Town who signed him for the 2010/2011 season.

Willard Katsande Aspires To Coach Warriors And Kaizer Chiefs

Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Willard Katsande has defended his compatriot and former teammate Khama Billiat who has been criticised by some of the club’s fans and former players for his poor form.
Billiat has only provided two assists for Kaizer Chiefs this season and is yet to find the back of the net.
But Katsande says Billiat’s critics “don’t know football, they follow it on social media”. He said:

Now he must take the stage, he must take all blame as well as the criticism because he’s a senior player.
But looking at it from a different view, he is a quality player who needs to be supported during this difficult moment.
Supporters must rally behind him and stop criticising him. Let me tell you what type of guy Khama is the kind of player who is sensitive.
He is unlike me. I’m a village boy, and I was a diehard, a hardcore player you know that.
Other players like him are not like that. They need to be handled and treated differently.
They need all the love and attention, they thrive on that. Some players need that to perform at their best.
Even some of the best players in the world are like that. Currently, he is not getting that from anywhere.
So psychologically, I think he’s not 100% there because he can feel that the love is not there anymore.
Remember, obviously he is no longer a young player. When you grow older some things change and as a player, you become more experienced.
Now he is a senior player. He requires all that support. He still has two or three good seasons to give for the club.
If you can even look at other top players in the world of his age, they are older now, just like him and they are supported by the fans.
But how can you be mature when everyone is throwing all these negative things at you?
Every time he goes on social media or reads the news it’s negativity about him. Of course, he is going to feel down because of it and of course, then his performance will suffer.
I don’t blame him for that. We need to show him some love because we know when Khama is at his peak, he makes us all proud.
People who criticize him don’t know football. They just see football on social media.
If they knew it, they would just sit down and analyse what he contributes to the team.
We just need to appreciate him because he is one of those kinds of players.
He’s one of the gems, and it will take time for us to see a player like him again in the PSL.
We must not chase him away. If we do, we are losing a brilliant player.

Former Warriors captain Willard Katsande said that his main ambition is to coach the Zimbabwe national team.
Katsande, who is working as a brand ambassador for a South African club, Sekhukhune United, has now completed a CAF D licence conducted in Tshwane.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.snl24.com/kickoff/sanews/premiership/kaizer-chiefs/decorated-kaizer-chiefs-midfielder-willard-katsande-reveals-a-new-career-path-since-retirement-20221130">KickOff</a>, Katsande said he “owes” football and wants to share the knowledge he has acquired with the next generation. He said:

I did my CAF D licence in order for me to set the path of my growth since I know what I want.
I owe football because to get to be where I am today is through football, so I owe football.
This is now my time to share my knowledge with the next generation so that they come out better than us.
We tried our level best, but it wasn’t good enough for us to conquer African football.
I have dreams of moving into coaching because I have the passion and one day, I want to be the head coach of one of the PSL teams.
My main objective is to coach the Zimbabwe national team.
So, this is what drives me to be where I am today.
Football is about learning every day so I’m learning as each day passes and I hope one day I will reach my target and hope I will be working with people that can add value to my coaching path.
On this path, there is a long way to go, and I hope it is going to be a good ride for me.
All I need is to contribute to football because football has been good to me.

Willard Katsande Says He Wants To Coach Warriors

Former Warriors captain Willard Katsande was allegedly ambushed and assaulted by an unknown man in South Africa where he is based, resulting in substantial damage to his car.
The road rage incident happened on Saturday night in Roodepoort on the West Rand, News24 reported.
The 35-year-old former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder, who currently plays for newly promoted Sekhukhune United, opened a case of common assault and malicious damage to property at the Honeydew police station. The case is being investigated.
According to Katsande’s statement to the police, seen by City Press, the altercation was allegedly sparked by a man in a white Ford EcoSport who showed him the “middle figure” while driving on Hendrick Potgieter and Peter roads. The statement read:

White male came out of his vehicle and hit me with his fists on my head. He also break (sic) my right window and right side mirror on my vehicle. He hit my vehicle with his foot on the side. The total value of the damage is R50 000.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Kay Makhubele had not responded to media enquiries at the time of publishing.
Katsande confirmed the incident saying, “with due respect kindly note that I can’t comment any further on this matter.”

Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Willard Katsande, who joined DStv Premiership newcomers Sekhukhune United after a decade at the Soweto giants, said he relishes playing football in a different environment.
The Zimbabwean (35) said he is at Sekhukhune to compete, and not to make up the numbers. He said:

It’s a great opportunity for me to play in a different environment. I’m not just coming here to make up the numbers, I’m here to compete, and the team has shown lots of support to me.

The former Warriors captain was one of five new additions unveiled by Sekhukhune, who have so far, signed up to 18 new players ahead of the 2021/2022 campaign.
He was speaking at his unveiling alongside defenders Cheslyn Jampies, Justice Chabalala, midfielder, Blessing Sarupinda and goalkeeper Toaster Nsabata on Friday. Added Katsande:

I’m Not Here To Make Up The Numbers, Says Katsande After Joining Sekhukhune

Former Warriors captain Willard Katsande has signed a two-year contract with newly promoted DStv Premier Soccer League side Sekhukhune United after being discarded by Kaizer Chiefs in July.
The 35-year-old midfielder’s contract with Amakhosi expired at the end of June but the deal was not renewed.
After spending a decade at Chiefs where he won a number of accolades, Katsande was deemed excess to requirements by the club after the CAF Champions League final against Egyptian giants Al Ahly on 17 July.
Chiefs then offered him a technical role and he was engaged in talks with the Soweto giants for the past week.
However, the player said he wasn’t ready to hang up his boots so soon and decided to move to Sekhukhune United.
Speaking on Star FM, Katsande revealed that he will return to Chiefs once he retires from playing football. Katsande said:

I did what I had to for my family and I also felt I still had the legs (to play). It was also important to secure my long term future and they promised me a position with the club when I do retire.

Katsande will link up with several fellow countrymen including Tapuwa Kapini, McClive Phiri, Walter Musona, Charlton Mashumba and Talent Chawapiwa at Sekhukhune.
The club is also assessing King Nadolo and are said to be interested in Warriors’ vice-captain Ovidy Karuru.
Meanwhile, Katsande will be registered as a local player as he is a holder of a South African permanent residence permit.

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder and former Warriors captain Willard Katsande on Monday revealed that he was now into music and will launch his first album soon.
Katsande made the announcement on Social Media on Monday, saying the album contains a mixture of Rhumba and Sungura music.
Sungura is a dominant music popular genre across the country while Rhumba traces its origins to central Africa, specifically the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The 34-year-old has not yet revealed what he plans to do after he hangs up his boots but he said that he has already started doing coaching classes.
Earlier in the month, Katsande was quoted as saying:

Following advice he got from such personalities like Kaizer Chiefs boss Kaizer Motaung, his Amakhosi coach Steve Khompela, former Bafana Bafana great Doctor Khumalo and ex-Warriors and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Esrom Nyandoro, Willard Katsande has had a change of heart and rescinded his decision to quit international football.
Said Katsande:

Coach Pasuwa told me that I still had a lot to offer to the national team. Speaking to NewsDay, Warriors captain Willard Katsande said contrary to the reports that he has quit international football he is still considering his future in international football following the team’s early exit at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals taking place in Gabon.
Said Katsande:
<blockquote>I have read reports that I have quit international football, but somebody decided to put words into my mouth. I still need to go back and sit down and have a debrief. I also need to consult a few people before I make any decision. What is important is to see how I can help the younger players grow into the national team and take over. I think we still need to rub on to the next group of players the experience that we have gained from this Afcon final. Zimbabwe needs to be a regular at these finals and we need to be a dominant force. With this in mind, I will have to consult on how I can help before I make any decision. Having played for the Warriors since 2009, I have gained a lot of experience. So when I decide to step down there needs to be some form of continuity.</blockquote>

Willard Katsande speaks on reports that he is quitting international football

Zimbabwe <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_National_Football_Team" target="_blank">Warriors</a> captain <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Willard_Katsande" target="_blank">Willard Katsande</a> has retired from international football.  The retirement is with immediate effect.  The Warriors were recently eliminated from the Africa Cup of Nations when they finished bottom of their group with 1 point.
Katsande who played in all of Zimbabwe’s three games said he was stepping aside to allow younger players to take over.  Speaking to Supersport, Kantsande said:
<blockquote>I have decided to call time on my national team career after bowing out from Afcon. It comes a time where you have to make the hard decisions as you know I am 31 and it’s just the right time to now fully concentrate on my club career at Kaizer Chiefs.
We played well but we have not been consistent conceding goal despite working hard but we take back lesson home and hopefully things will be different next time.
I have given many years to my nation and I want to see younger players follow in my footsteps and hopefully become even better. I have had a great time in the national team and I am definitely grateful about it.</blockquote>
