ZANU PF has accused civil society organisations (CSOs) of planning to conduct a parallel tabulation of results in general elections scheduled for 2023.
According to the party’s central committee report presented at the congress, parallel tabulation of results will be a recipe for chaos especially if the results gathered by CSOs are different from those released by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC). The report reads in part:

The Zimbabwe Election Support Network and the Election Resource Centre are planning to conduct parallel voter tabulation during the 2023 harmonised elections.
In pursuit of that, they will deploy election observers at all polling stations who will also double as CCC agents.
These will send results to their established Command centres and have consolidated results before Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) announces.
If ZEC announces what is different from what they have, they are planning to have violent protests.
This plan is a recipe for chaos and mayhem as well as a serious security threat.

The central committee report also claimed that CCC was working with civil society organisations in penetrating ZANU PF’s perceived rural strongholds. It said:

In their quest to upset the ruling Zanu PF party support base, the opposition working with their Western handlers, have employed hybrid warfare, ranging from political, economic, social and cyber threats.

This has seen the opposition political party penetrating Zanu PF strongholds, particularly rural constituencies.

The main opposition outfit is using NGOs and CSOs as their agents for regime change, with Goal Zimbabwe, Danish Church Aid and Plan International being on record for handing cash handouts ranging between US$10 and US$20 per individual in high-density suburbs such as Mabvuku, Highfield and Mbare.
In essence, they are acting as the opposition commissars whose activities complement those of the opposition outfit.

CSOs Planning Parallel Tabulation Of Election Results, Says ZANU PF

ZANU PF on Friday re-elected President Emmerson Mnangagwa (80), for another five-year term as president and first secretary.
Zimbabwe’s ruling party is holding its 7th National People’s Congress, which is its first the November 2017 military coup that overthrew the late Robert Mugabe.
Mnangagwa retained the ZANU PF presidency unopposed and is set to stand as the party’s presidential candidate in 2023 where he’s likely to be challenged by CCC leader Nelson Chamisa.
During the run-up to the congress, reports claimed that Mnangagwa’s deputy, Constantino Chiwenga, the retired army general who led the coup against Mugabe, would challenge for the presidency.
Ironically, it was Chiwenga who took to the podium on Friday at the HICC where the ZANU PF Congress is being held, to endorse Mnangagwa. Chiwenga said:

While this congress is supposed to be elective, the party structures have already clearly and thunderously endorsed Comrade Mnangagwa as the president and 1st Secretary as the sole candidate in the 2023 national elections. People have thus spoken. Let their will be obeyed.
Let us give President Mnangagwa another five years. I strongly believe that we are much better off as a party and country if God grants the president many more years. He has surpassed our expectations over a short space of time.

The congress went ahead while a legal challenge to Mnangagwa’s leadership Sybeth Msengezi, a ZANU PF youth activist, was before the courts.
Msengezi wants the 19 November 2017 extraordinary party meeting, which called for the removal of Mugabe, declared null and void.

ZANU PF Gives Mnangagwa Another Five Years As Leader

ZANU PF’s highest decision-making body, the Central Committee, on Thursday endorsed President Emmerson Mnangagwa as the party’s First Secretary and sole party Presidential candidate for the 2023 general elections at the party’s 7th National People’s Congress.
Speaking at a post-118th Central Committee meeting held in Harare on Thursday night, ZANU PF Secretary for Information and Publicity Christopher Mutsvangwa said:

We also discussed various resolutions, the central one being that the President is the sole candidate for our upcoming elections in 2023.
He is doing a fantastic job; why do we want to change a man with accolades of performance in every aspect of life? The Central Committee is happy with his performance.

Mutsvangwa also revealed that the Congress will dissolve the outgoing Politburo and Central Committee, with new members set to be announced on Saturday. He said:

Today there was an announcement of the new Central Committee members to the outgoing Central Committee members.
Out of the new Central Committee members which were announced, the President will choose a new Politburo.
The Politburo is going to be replaced by the Congress so that they get a new mandate for the next five years.

ZANU PF Central Committee Endorses Mnangagwa

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has called on ZANU PF members to shun violence in their campaigns ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Mnangagwa said this while addressing ZANU PF central committee members at the ongoing congress in the capital. He said:

The path of peace, tolerance, and non-violence must remain the fundamental hallmark of all mobilisation efforts as we galvanise the party membership and people of our great motherland to vote for ZANU PF.
An emphatic and resounding victory is certain and all party structures must put their shoulders on the wheel and work harder to achieve it and we are an unstoppable train and everybody is welcome in ZANU PF.

New central committee members who were elected early this month are set to be sworn in at the ongoing congress expected to end tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Civil Society Organisations and opposition political parties accuse ZANU PF supporters of unleashing violence against opposition members with impunity.

Mnangagwa Calls For Peace, Tolerance And Non-violence

ZANU PF has refused to accredit journalists from privately-owned local publications among them NewsDay, The NewsHawks, and NewZimbabwe accusing them of bias.
Party spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa on Wednesday said the ZANU PF Politburo resolved to bar NewsDay from covering the event. He said:

For your own information, we have not refused anyone registration except for one particular publication which we feel prefers to write fiction rather than to follow events at the party, if we invite them they will also write fiction.
So, this is where we are. Even the Voice of America will be there and even foreign correspondents.
We have no problem with critical journalism but we don’t tolerate invented stories when we have Press conferences. We also need to be criticised but not on fictitious stories.

ZANU PF information director Tafadzwa Mugwadi said the matter was discussed in the Politburo because it is a serious one. Said Mugwadi:

The matter was an issue in the politburo. When this is discussed in the politburo then it’s a serious issue and a cause for concern. I think this is the time for the publication to reflect.

Local Private Media Barred From ZANU PF Congress

President Emmerson Mnangagwa is set to announce a new politburo which may see some of the current members become ordinary card-carrying members.
Speaking during the last politburo meeting before the 7th ZANU PF National People’s Congress which commenced on Wednesday, 26 October, Mnangagwa revealed that some members will be reassigned. He said:

In whatever portfolios the party assigns us in the future, let us maintain the momentum we have demonstrated to date, while at the same time providing appropriate guidance to the lower structures of the party.
No matter our portfolios in the future, let us remain unflinching and consistent as loyal, patriotic, and committed members of ZANU PF emboldened by the fact that in our party, leaders at every level are servants of the people, as such the most important position in ZANU PF is to be a card-carrying member.

ZANU PF Politburo Set For Overhaul

The 7th ZANU PF National People’s Congress commences this Wednesday, 26 October with a meeting of the Politburo followed by a Central Committee meeting on Thursday before the official opening on Friday.
All Central Committee members are expected to arrive this Wednesday ahead of the 118th meeting of the party’s highest decision-making organ.
In a statement on Tuesday, ZANU PF Secretary for Information and Publicity Christopher Mutsvangwa said:

The Secretary for Administration Cde Dr. Obert Mpofu wishes to advise all members that there shall be an Ordinary Session of the Politburo to be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at the home of the people’s revolution, ZANU PF headquarters, commencing at 1000 hours. All members should be seated by 09:45 sharp.

Several former liberation movements from the southern African region are expected to send delegates to the ZANU PF Congress.
These include Chama Cha Mapinduzi of Tanzania, Frelimo of Mozambique, South Africa’s African National Congress, People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola, South West Africa People’s Organisation of Namibia, Botswana Democratic Party, Malawi Congress Party, among others.
Some of the delegations arrived in the country on Tuesday and were received at the Robert Gabriel International Airport by ZANU PF Secretary for External Affairs Simbarashe Mumbengegwi. He said:

Now, we have invited many of our friends from outside the country including all the former liberation movements and other progressive political parties in the region and abroad.

7th ZANU PF National People’s Congress Starts Today

ZANU PF will hold its 7th Congress from 26 to 29 October this year, the party’s Secretary for Administration Obert Mpofu, has revealed.
The party has already held the women and youth league elective conferences with the War Veterans League conference set for this month.
In a circular released by Mpofu recently, ZANU PF has outlined the process that will be followed ahead of the congress.
The Congress will be held at Robert Mugabe Square in Harare.
It will be attended by delegates from Central Committee members, National Consultative Assembly, Women’s League National Executive, Youth League Executive members, National Council of the War Veterans League, provincial executive members, District Coordinating Committee Executives and one district executive chairperson per party district drawn from either the main body, Women’s League, Youth League or War Veterans League.
The ZANU PF constitution in Article 5, Section 25, states that the party shall convene an ordinary congress once every five years.
The 7th National People’s Congress will elect the President and First Secretary of the party who will represent the party as the presidential candidate for the 2023 harmonised elections and elect Central Committee members among other issues.
ZANU PF director for information and Publicity Tafadzwa Mugwadi said that the Congress will be “a big bang platform” for the party’s sole presidential candidate President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
